The 2010 Chicago Harmony Sweepstakes is coming up in March, and we're
starting to gather information about eligible a cappella groups. This
e-mail is going out to as many Midwest groups as we know of, and we're trying
to fill in the gaps in our "knowledge base". Some groups may
have changed their contact information - please forward this e-mail to your
main contact, and let us know their name and e-mail address. Some groups
may have changed e-mail addresses, or added a new website (or Facebook, or
MySpace page) - we'd like to know about that. And a few groups, sadly,
may no longer be together - in that case, let us know if you'd like us to
remove your e-mail address from our list.
Note: the Sweeps will now accept groups
up to EIGHT members! In years past, we could only accept up to 7,
which eliminated a lot of mixed groups (SSAATTBB). With the new higher
limit, we're hoping we see all sorts of new groups come out of the woodwork!
A more official entry form will be following this e-mail, but here's a few
things you should know in the meantime:
The
show is Saturday, March 27th, 2010 at the North Shore Center for
the Performing Arts in Skokie, IL, at 7:30 pm.
The
deadline for receiving entries is January 8th, 2010.
All
groups will need to submit an audition recording with at least two
songs. (CDs or MP3s strongly preferred)
Groups
must have at least three and no more than EIGHT members.
About 8 or 9 groups will be selected from the entries to perform
in the March regional contest. If your entry is selected, we will need a
picture of your group, and an entry fee of $10 per person per group.
If you've entered the Sweeps before and your information hasn't changed, you're
all set. But if you're new to the Sweeps, or if you'd like to update your
group contact information in any way, please reply to this e-mail. We try
to do as much via e-mail as possible (thus the importance of digital
recordings). And spread the word to any other a cappella groups you know
- the more the merrier!

UMBRIAN SERENADES is a life-transforming choral program that brings together
passionate singers from all over the U.S. who seek opportunities to perform
exquisite A CAPPELLA repertoire within a small vocal chamber ensemble. These
choral enthusiasts come together to enhance their vocal, musicianship, and
ensemble skills, as well as savor all that small medieval hilltop towns in the
heart of Italy can offer culturally, be it wine, olive oil, cooking, and the
like. This select chamber ensemble performs sacred a cappella vocal works,
spanning from Renaissance to Gospel, Spiritual and contemporary repertoire in
unique spaces throughout the lush and breathtaking hills of Umbria.
In addition to performing under amazing frescos and art work from the Italian
Renaissance, and in sacred spaces and cathedrals such as the Basilica of St.
Francis in ASSISI and the Duomo of SPOLETO, 2010 participants will get to
perform under Musical America Conductor of the Year (2004), JOSEPH FLUMMERFELT,
as well as participate in a conducting master class during the 12-day stay in
Umbria, Italy.

I had recently moved back to the Chicago area after living in California for 10
years. I sang with a 6 voice group in CA called Ro Sham Bo - check it out at
www.roshambosings.com. If you check out the myspace page, I am in one of the
older pictures with the city scape background, lower right corner.
I am looking for something similar here - 1 on a part, challenging harmonies,
great arrangements and solid musicians.
I live in Oak Park and have transportation. Let me know if you have a group or
know of a group who might need someone like me!
Thanks, Heidi

This was the tightest show we've
done here in Chicago - great judging, efficient hosting, and wonderful groups
made for an evening that ran smooth as silk. We actually ended on
time (the first time since I started producing eight years ago!), and yet
our Afterglow went way over, thanks to every group singing some extra
songs. 5one did a great
job hosting, highlighted by Stupid Musician Jokes, and an a cappella
"Cha Cha Slide" that made them pass out. Thanks to all the
groups, congrats to our winners, and thanks to all the fans that came out to
listen!

Hello Chicago (and everyone else listening in):

saying something.
That's it for now. Good luck EVERYONE at this years Sweeps. We've
got a corperate gig that night so I'm sorry to say I'll be missing it
this year. PLEASE - if you have friends or family in or near Reston,
VA or Three Rivers, MI tell them to come check out our show and say
HELLO.
Details for this years AcappellaFest should be forthcoming soon.
