Geetarz Comments:

A poor audience recording, very distant sounding.

Listenable enough to warrant an "Aud 2" rating because the instruments are at
least clear and discernable, but the vocals are really buried and muddy.

Useful only as a historical document of the performance, not really for
enjoyment.

A nice clear audience recording, especially considering the age of the

Almost no analog tape hiss.

Vocals are a bit low in the mix, but overall very listenable.

EC throws a bit of 'Five Long Years' into the "Ramblin' On My Mind / Have You

This nice (and rare) boxset documents some of the final shows of the 1979 tour,
which ended its long run in Japan.

After warm-up shows in September, and a run across Europe, by this point EC's
"new English band" had really settled as a unit and put on some of the best
shows of the tour.

First show of the continent leg of the 1979 tour, and the first proper tour
performance with EC's new "All English" band after two warm-up gigs in
September.

This is an interesting recording. EC introduces "If I Don't Be There By Morning"
as "Blue Sky".

Disc two features a song with a country feel, which may be titled "Tina", or "La
La La" which I haven't heard much elsewhere - unknown if EC played this song at
other concerts after the first couple of this run.

Geetarz Comments:

After the end of the US leg of the 1979 tour ended in June, EC felt that his
band had become "stale" and set out to recruit a new group of musicians.

Whereas earlier in the decade EC made a conscious decision to recruit American
musicians, at the end EC went full circle, with his new "English Band".

After rehearsals, the new group played 2 debut concerts, one in Surrey on
September 7th (no known recording of this show exists), and this, the second, a
week before the European tour began.

The crowd was loud and boisterous, calling out to the band, and in many ways the
feel of the gig is very intimate, more like a club show in some ways than a
medium size hall gig.

It's a fun show, and an important document of one of the milestone changes in
EC's career, albeit one that slipped in like a thief in the night.

This is a surprisingly nice audience recording, with the instruments souding up
close, and only the vocals sounding somewhat distant.

Not exactly a fiery performance, but certainly one will find some tasty work
here, including an all-too-rarely performed "It's Too Late".

Perhaps the best performance of the evening is Albert Lee's take on the Dire
Straits classic "Setting Me Up".

Total time: 34:35

Comments: Excellent low-generation audience fragment from EC's 1979 U.S. tour.
It's a shame this is only the first third of the show, because it's one of the
best recordings I've heard from the tour. Even though it's very brief, it's
worth the download because it's an excellent showcase for the band -- great mix
of vocals (the harmonies with Albert Lee sound great) and instruments. The
audience is also very unobtrusive.

It's unfortunate this recording is incomplete -- I don't think any more than
this was recorded. If anyone has any information on why this recording is
incomplete, please share your insights on the thread. (And of course if you
have a longer version, please post it!)

This is a surprisingly good recording for the era. Mp3 samples are attached.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Many thanks to ademotte for the previous up! I can't find it on the tracker now
and don't see a listing of its deletion on the dime-bot list. At any rate, if
anyone previously grabbed this fragment, if they could compare the sound of that
fragment and contrast with this version I am sure we would all appreciate the
input.

(*) Largo, Maryland is a suburb of Washington, D.C. In the same way that people
whine that "Auburn Hills" isn't Detroit, or "Sunrise", isn't Miami, all these
three places have one thing in common - they'd be nothing more than a bump in

Geetarz Comments:

A decent audience recording, a bit rough in spots but otherwise quite
listenable.

A small bit of diginoise in the left channel from an intermediate DAT source
(CAS > DAT > CD) in "Watch Out For Lucy".

"Double Trouble" is incomplete, which is not a total loss as EC's performance is
mediocre at best, but Albert Lee really pulls off a long, jazz tinged solo
that's worth a listen.

As we all know, that's a load of bollocks!

(see, I am working on my Brit-speak so as better to communicate with my Anglo
pals ...)

And in that vein, well timed:

During the southern leg of his 1979 US tour, EC joined BB King (and Diana Ross)
on stage for a few songs in Atlanta, Georgia.

Please note, there are both soundboard and audience recordings of this

Geetarz Comments:

This was the first show of the 1979 tour, and the first gig with new band member
Albert Lee.

This is a soundboard recording, not to be confused with the high generation
audience recording in circulation.

EC gets a bit lost in the first verse of Crossroads, but finishes off with some
great solos.

The band is plagued by some sort of PA/Equipment problems during "Key to the
Highway".

The show features a nice hot performance of "Carnival", with some nice swirly
Hammond B3.

A conversation with actor JOE MORTON

Here's an extract concerning our man.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
JA: My favorite performance by you has to be the role of Cable Chamberlain
in the film Blues Brothers 2000, in which John Landis and Dan Aykroyd
reunite nearly the entire cast from the original 1982 film, and add yourself
and John Goodman to the mix as the newest Blues Brothers. Despite mixed
reviews for the film, this had to be such an amazing experience to play the
part of the son Cab Calloway's character from the original film. How did you
become involved in this picture?
JM: Doing Blues Brothers 2000 is one of the highlights of my career. To be
surrounded by all of those musicians was amazing, incredible, fantastic and
inspiring. I can't remember having more fun. At one point I was sitting at
the piano with Sam Moore and James Brown as they told stories and sang songs
from their past. The first song I had to sing in the film was with James
Brown, just before my transformation into a member of the band. What a rush!
And the band! Those guys are the unsung heroes of the show. That band is
unbelievable.
I'm actually in Toronto doing Warehouse 13. There are a few members of the
crew and background cast who were on Blues Brothers 2000 and we've been
doing a little reminiscing.
I got involved because John Landis called and offered me the role. At first,
the studio wasn't sure if I was right for the role because I'd done mostly
drama. So, John and I were preparing some material, posters, clips, reviews,
whatever I could find to prove I could do comedy. In the meantime, I sang
for Paul Shaffer. Paul was genuinely impressed. I think that's what
convinced the studio.
JA: What was it like to work under the direction of John Landis, alongside
Dan Aykroyd, and also surrounded by some of music history's finest musicians
like B.B. King, Eric Clapton, Wilson Pickett, and many more. Also, what were
your fondest memories of being on the set of this film?
JM: John Landis is terrific. We spent most of the time, when we weren't
shooting, telling jokes. Dan is very generous and lots of fun. But the music
and the musicians were the thing. We (John, Dan, Evan and I) sang backup for
Aretha on "Respect" -- not only in the film but as part of the Grammys. I
spent time with Eric Clapton asking him about the album he'd cut with Muddy
Waters and Howlin' Wolf. Sam Moore and I became friends, and I sang with him
on stage in Atlantic City. Jon Faddis offered to teach my son trumpet. As a
matter of fact, a lot of the jazz musicians were in the film because of a
list I gave John Landis.
As you know, the film ends with a battle of the bands. What was incredible
is what happened between takes. A lot of the musicians had never played with
each other before so between takes would turn into a jam session. I should
say two jam sessions. The rock 'n rollers would jam on one side the stage
while the jazz musicians jammed on the other side, simultaneously. Paul had
the difficult job of getting them to stop so we could get the next shot. All
of this was complicated by the fact that we only had those guys for one day.
The first person on stage for this sequence was Eric Clapton. He came on
stage, sat on his amp hugging his guitar with a big smile on his face.
Someone remarked that they hadn't seen Eric smile like that in a long time.
Turns out he had never played with B.B. King before and was anxiously
awaiting to meet him. I don't know, but I bet that meeting is what inspired
them to do their duet album.
Interesting reading.  The Eagles are already in the process of their back
catalog. This article also explains some of the studios' push to "remaster" some
old recordings.
A few older EC recordings are already in the public domain from the early 1960s,
what will happen to the rest?
"Mainline Florida" is actually playing on XM Radio right now and it prompted me
to thank Mainline Florida for uploading this set.  Thanks, too, to Geetarz and
others who have provided such great music.
At this point, I think I'll turn off XM Radio and listen to the Crossroads
Good evening viewers
With huge thanks to Mainline Florida who torrented this magnificent set,
I am starting a vine for those who remain torrentless.
This Mid Valley set is the 11 shows from earlier in 2009 at the RAH, and
fills two DVDs in FLAC format.
Please send me your request off-list, with your postal address and a
promise to reoffer in a timely manner.
It won't go out for a couple of days so I will leave it open for a while
then pick someone at random.
Cheers
Woff
