Hello and glad to see this group still active (?!) In the short
time I have been introduced to Sad Lovers and Giants' music, I have
found the volume of work to be of the highest order...a real
revelation and a wonder how I never knew about the band during their
heyday!
As you might gather, my introduction has come via alternate means
(music blogs) which then opened up into seeking out the CDs (very
hard as you know, non-existent in Australia!)
The Cherry Red downloads through iTunes is good but doesn't beat
having the physical CD in your hands. I have queried Cherry Red as
to when/if the back catalogue will be remastered/reisssue d/expanded
but they say maybe (an ambiguous answer to say the least!)
I for one would love to see revenue enter the coffers of the band
and not the re-sellers at inflated prices, which unfortunately I
have had to do to acquire at least part of the CD back catalogue.
This begs the question...why doesn't the band offer the music direct
to the fan? (much like what some other bands are doing - the
Chameleons, Level 42, Marillion, the Railway Children, the Fixx, to
name a few)
Seeing the Chameleons "Script of the Bridge" 25th Anniversary 2Cd
set is inspiring and hopes are high maybe SLAG (and Snake Corps)
will eventually do the same?
In retrospect, Sad Lovers and Giants were/are the best undiscovered
gem of the post-punk era, boasting some of the most beautiful,
thought-provoking and ethereal music ever created, an ever so brief
escape from the day-to-day life that always leaves one breathless
and craving more.
Here's hoping we get more music in the future, that some up and
coming band "name drops" the band, causing a wider recognition of a
band that deserves to be heard.
I know the band will never tour Australia but here is to hopes and
dreams, and if any of the band are reading, thank you for the
amazing body of work.
Cheers,
Rob from Melbourne
