Shame File Music news #29 (May 2005)
Specialising in Australian experimental.
Three new releases now available from Shame File…
- Scott Sinclair and Clinton Green “With Doors Open” CD - After 3 years of guitar improvisations with Melbourne’s Clinton Green (AKA Undecisive God) & Brisbane's Scott Sinclair, the result is this varied and rounded collection of guitar works. Guitars are used to create eccentric sounds, both jagged and melodic, soft and droning. The tracks fit together neatly for a sastifying and intriguing listening experience. Download the free “Tamas” EP from the website to hear a preview from the album - AU10ppd (US$8ppd)
**Look out for Scott and Clinton playing in Melbourne for Liquid Architecture 6 in July.**
- Undecisive God “A Year of Silence” CD - The result of a 12 month field recording project, a random recording was made once a week and then layered on top of each other to create a sound collage of the mundane. The title track contains all 52 weekly recordings layered on top of one another, and monthly mixes are also included. A limited number of copies are handmade and painted. - AU$10ppd (US$8ppd)
- W.I.T. “While You Were Ill…” mp3/CDEP – The first volume of Shame File’s Terra Australis Incognita mp3 EP series (see below). From Gippsland in country Victoria, W.I.T. abuses turntables in new and interesting ways, creating a "back shed" style of industrial noise, varying in intensity and maintaining a crisp meaty sound. – Download it for free from the site or order the CDR for AU10ppd (US$8ppd)
TERRA AUSTRALIS INCOGNITA SERIES
This new series seeks to document notable Australian experimental artists (both established and lesser known) by commissioning them to produce an EP of material that will then be made available for free downloading online, as well as on CDR.
W.I.T. kicks of proceedings with Volume I, and Volume II will appear in August courtesy of Melbourne’s The Feeder.
Submissions are still open for Australian artists interested in being featured in the series, but get in touch quick because places are filling up fast. See http://ShameFile.tripod.com for futher details.
OTHER NEW ITEMS ON THE SHAME FILE CATALOGUE
- The Feeder “Ghost” CD – A change of direction from The Feeder’s earlier noise electronics work sees him excels at some minimal, atmospheric, dark ambient soundscapes. - AU$8ppd (US$6ppd)
- Isomer “Sedation” CD – Classic early cassette release from Adelaide’s dark ambient master now available on CDR – AU$8ppd (US$10ppd)
- Rainer Linz “Two Pieces for Radio” CD – From Melbourne composer/performer Linz. The Opera "Crossed Purposes" uses a range of media-related devices, including a radio 'format' (in place of an opera 'form') and the use of an announcer. In The Rehearsal , three (fictional) cellists rehearse for a radio concert which is to be broadcast simultaneously from different parts of the world. The process of creating for radio is the starting point for this piece, as producers' and engineers' voices are heard and the sound of tape machines, microphones, tuning and studio atmosphere provide a quasi-documentary basis for the piece. - For trade only
- Matthew O’Shannessy & Eamon Sprod “(untitled)” mini CD - An alien soundtrack of electronics and (?) mouth sounds, creating two fresh and original sound pieces. - AU$7ppd (US$5ppd)
- W.I.T. “That’s Terrible” mini CD - A new blast of quality noise. - AU$7ppd (US$5ppd)
Note that all items on the Shame File catalogue are also available for trade (unless noted otherwise).
