Whoa, hope none of the English majors in the audience got thee wrong
impression there. I meant "Erstwhile" in the sense that he's no
longer "At large" in that he's "With Cobra Verde more or less all
permanent-like." Although one could make the case that
he's "Erstwhile" from about 52 other bands. (Plus, the word just
sounded all cool and Magnet Magaziny.)
However, I certainly did not mean "Ersatz", as that means "Being an
imitation or a substitute, usually an inferior one; artificial".
I've never thought Ed had an "inferior" or "artificial"
or "substitute" (presumably for some other CV bass player) playing
style. He does have a pretty distinctive personal style and I have
occasionally thought it can be too much an "imitation" of Watt. In
the CV context that's more a matter of whether Watt-like style is
appropriate for CV's material, as opposed to whether it is a bad
thing for a bass player to imitate Watt at all (of course it
isn't!).

That's not the first association that sprung to my mind for a post-
Quazi Modo band. But since I posted that, I read that Fallon was in
it too, so Hank Williams makes sense.
