Found this mention today about Cobra Verde (the film)
today, but mentioning the band as well:

Herzog and Kinski
Sometimes we feel so dumb. We knew that Cobra Verde
was a rock band -- a very good rock band that rose out
of the ashes of another very good rock band, Death of
Samantha. We knew Cobra Verde joined forces with
Guided by Voices' singer-guitarist Robert Pollard,
making a most formidable rock outfit. But we didn't
know "Cobra Verde" was a German movie featuring that
volatile tag-team duo of director Werner Herzog and
actor Klaus Kinski.
But "Cobra Verde," which wraps up the Herzog Film
Festival at the Boston Public Library's Rabb
Auditorium tonight at 6, was the duo's fifth and final
film together. Herzog was reportedly so concerned
about his star's mental and physical health that he
shot sequences in Colombia last because he wanted to
be sure Kinski survived the longer, more intense shoot
in Africa. The movie is rich, disturbing, and highly
visual.
The opening scene has Kinski's character, Francisco
Manoel de Silva (who later becomes the bandit known as
Cobra Verde), squatting in front of a cross in a
graveyard, surrounded by dead and near-dead animals.
Creepy. At 111 minutes, you might call it one of
Herzog's "shorts." It's free.
