Soooo I finally got a chance to see the boys for the first time in
some months Sunday at the Ingenuity festival in downtown Cleveland.
It was pretty exciting to see CV playing right in the shadow of
Terminal Tower, which is probably my favorite building ever, and they
had beautiful weather and a good-sized crowd especially considering
it was almost the end of the festival and lots of people were heading
for home. Got to hear all the usual "Easy Listening" and Underpants
stuff as well as a cover of "Temptation" with all the classic oo-
ooos. Aside from one song, I forget which one, where John started
singing in a different key from the band, everything sounded great.
Frank and Tim both got off some hot solos. Mark is still (a) ageless
and (b) the best drummer in town. John was chugging Dasani instead
of beer and I am pleased to report this did not impact the overall
quality of his performance. The only sour note was some guy,
apparently a festival organizer or something, who barged onstage mid-
set and started complaining the band was too loud because you could
hear them down in the kids' pavilion area or something. The band AND
the audience were both like huh, wha?? Um, first of all, the band
wasn't particularly loud (I have been to enough outdoor shows to have
some idea what I'm talking about here) And also, Mister Yuppie
Shorts, if you don't want an amplified full-on-rock band playing your
little "family-friendly" festival, then don't book one, k? and maybe
then I'll stay home instead of spending money down at ArtMetro.
People have to understand that not everybody wants to hear that
tweedly-doo kiddy shite all day long at these festivals,
and "Everybody" includes people with $ (sorry to be mercenary but
it's the only language some folks unnerstand). I was happy that CV
soldiered on despite this annoyance, and would also like to note that
I am in no way affiliated with the band, I am just a fan, so if any
Thomas Mulready henchmen want to get pissed off over this post kindly
don't take it out on CV, ok? I call it as I see it and I don't take
Political Correctol... getting back on the topic of the show, the
people behind me were all like, "Wow, these guys sound like a cross
between the New York Dolls annnndddd..." but they never finished the
thought. Also about 27 people were taking pictures and shooting
video up front so I'm assuming there will be some cool shots on the
web at some point. anyway thanks for another memorable show guys, I
enjoyed both you and the yummy butterfly fries. xoxo, sqp
