Yeah, I haven't seen it yet but the previews looked cool. I watch
very little TV anymore, I am never home or when I am I'm too busy. but
I have always been a Dennis Leary fan so hope to catch it sometime.

Wonder whatever happened to that Shirley MacLaine movie that "Modified
Frankenstein" was supposed to be in?

"Rescue Me" is actually a really good show. Leary's
character is an extremely flawed member of the NYFD
who's personal life is basically in shambles. A lot of
the other characters are really well developed.

"Rescue Me" has been using pretty cool music since its
first season last summer. The main theme is "C'mon
C'mon" by the Von Bondies.

Hi there mister listers, and miss listers too! A couple of
reminders from the Cobra Verde website: CV is opening for Dinosaur
Jr.'s reunion show in Cleveland at the House of Booze this Tuesday,
the 19th. I was lucky enough to see Dino Jr. in another city this
past week but with no CV opening, sadly :( Dino was great and
everybody I know who's seen 'em in other cities has been similarly
raving about this tour, so if you're on the fence, definitely don't
miss this one. If you're not going to the Dino gig, you can hear a
song from "Copycat Killers" featured on the FX channel's
show, "Rescue Me." See http://www.cobraverde.com for more details.

I also got hipped to the appearance of a project by a friend of
John's that features a number of Cobra Verde and former CV peeps
(John, Mark, Don, Derek) and some other stellar musicians whose
names you might recognize (Scott Krauss, Lou Vogel). It's an album
called "Calle Peligrosa (Dangerous Street)" that is the brainchild
of Roman Horodysky. You can read more about it at
http://www.romansongs.com/wst_page4.html and buy it from
romansongs.com or cdbaby.com . I just ordered it and haven't yet
gotten it in the mail but I have heard a lot about it so I expect it
to be a quality product as always when these guys are involved.

That's all for now, gotta get back to work...rawk n' all that

at the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds at 10:15 pm according to their
website. If you go, take a lot of bug spray!!! (for yourself, not to
spray at the band).

I'm pretty excited over the Dino Jr. upcoming tour, although I'll be
seeing shows other than the House of Blues one with CV. Too bad CV
couldn't open the whole tour, that would have been cool, but I guess
they're all busy with other stuff right now.

Hope everyone is having a great holiday!

Hope you are all having a good holiday weekend.
I also hope Cobra Verde will be doing some more tour or mini-tour a
little later this year. I'm saying "a little later" because it's been
announced that Ed is touring with Doug Gillard's project for June so I
figure that means no CV shows during that time period. I got my copies
of Copycat Killers from Robert at Scat, and also I got a promo poster
from some guy, so hopefully that will hold me until more CV shows come
around. Looking fwd to it.

Cheers,

the following is the latest missive from the actual band for those of
you who don't already get it in your spam filter...

*    *     *

OH, NO, NOT THE SEMI-OFFICIAL COBRA VERDE NEWSLETTER!
1. All new all-covers disc, "COPYCAT KILLERS"!
2. FREE SHOW: Sat. May 14 in CLEVELAND, USA
3. WILD ANTICS: John parties with Shaq! Ed joins a song-and-dance
troupe and smokes a lot in Argentina! Mark explores Germanic symbols!

Hey, Hey, Hey Everybody....

As usual, the Sem-Official Newsletter is too late in coming...I'll
cite
the same excuse -- except that this time it's true: Aside from the
usual non-sense that occupies our lives -- I'll get into that later --

we've been swamped with all sorts of Cobra Verde action surrounding
the
release of our new disc, "Copycat Killers."

It's an all-covers disc with tunes by everyone from Pink to New Order
to the Stones, Hawkwind, the Fall, Donna Summer, Troggs, Leonard
Cohen,
etc. Why covers? Well, funny you ask: John gives a rambling
explanation
on the aesthetics of the whole thing at www.cobraverde.com. Speaking
of the site, it's undergone a bunch of updates. You want to hear
clips
of the new disc? Check out Mark's hot, new animated clip? New pics?
Behind the scenes tidbits? The "Riot Industry" video starring all
sorts of
famous people.

www.cobraverde.com

Oh yeah, it's available exclusively on the site RIGHT NOW, as we
speak.

To mark the release of this record, we're getting together at John's
house to party hearty and prepare for our show SAT. MAY 14 at the
Beachland Ballroom in Cleveland. It's Music Appreciation Night and
it's FREE
to get it. And there are all kinds of snazzy bands playing with us:
Amps
II Eleven, Lords of the Highway, Houseguest. We're even going to have
a
stunt devil show to do motorcycle tricks.

We're also playing with the New York Doll(s) at House of Blues in
Cleveland on MON. MAY 16th. Who know what lies in store for that
evening.
We'll have more shows announced soon...we're just waiting for -- not
for
anything in particular; just waiting...

But CV-related action isn't the only thing keeping us busy. Over the
last month, John partied with Shaq and even auditioned to be the
mascot
for the Cleveland Cavaliers. (Dunking off a trampoline was no
problem;
walking on stilts was another matter.) Ed went to Argentina, to
perform
in a tango song-and-dance troupe. (He did the song part). Frank did a
modeling shoot with "Hot Rod Digest." Tim, the online publishing
mogul
of the band, worked on his award-winning sports comedy sites, from
carlosloozer.com to stickywilliams.com to his soon-to-be-unveiled
gulliblegirlfriends.com. Mark just got back from Germany, where he
complete
research for his book on the influence of Germanic culture on
American
heavy-metal and the deathstyles of the rich and famous.

(Oh yeah, John also added some new stuff to our sister site,
scamcity.com -- like stories on the hip-hop meets basketball and
other stuff.)

On the political front, our vow of silence remains in effect --
especially after Homeland Security raided our practice spot.

Anyway, hope all's well and thanks for everything...
yr pals,
john, tim, mark, ed, frank...

I hope the show on Saturday night went well. Billy Idol actually was
not half bad. Still, I would have liked to see Cobra Verde. Though
I did see the revamped New York Dolls who were pretty damn close to
Cobra Verde if you ask me.

I finally got around to updating the home page of this group to promo
the record. Cobra Verde is currently updating their website more
than I do this one! Quite a turn about from a couple years ago.
Sorry I am so slow on the draw now due to work. *Artie Fufkin
voice* KICK ME. RIGHT HERE.

Here are a few cool CV-related thingers I can post about:

1. The band sent out its newsletter, which I will repost here
momentarily in case anyone happens by who doesn't get it in e-mail.

2. Bitchfucked, I mean Pitchfork, just kidding guys we all love
Pitchfork (hahaha) reviewed the new record here:
http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/record-reviews/c/cobra-verde/copycat-
killers.shtml

It's actually not too bad of a review though they didn't mention any
of the better cuts, IMHO. I always think those dudes don't listen to
it all the way through. I mean come on guys, I know what rock
reviewers are like...sitting up all nite, dishing on the IM to their
pals about movies, wired on ephedra and coffee...oh the life.

3. Also if you drop over to http://www.cobraverde.com there's a
long discussion with John P about Why a covers album? that is
typical John P and quite fun to read.

4. And if you just can't get enough John to read, he's also updated
his website, http://www.scamcity.com so you can kill some time at
work perusing that too. Just don't get fired because then you won't
be able to buy the new record. If you've already bought it, don't
get fired anyway cuz you won't be able to pay to go to a show. If
you've already been to a free show, just don't get fired 'cuz it
ruins the economy for everybody and eventually leads to Communism.
Take it from me, I am old, AND I KNOW. OK Bye!

xo

Hey everybody! Hope the show with Prisonshake went well. I was sorry
to have to miss that one. Play another one, and preferably in some
city closer to me than St. Louis. I mean I know Robert likes it
there, but hey have a heart for the rest of us. Actually there were
way too many good shows booked for this past weekend, so I saved
myself the problem of deciding by missing ALL of them.

Here are your COBRA VERDE tour dates for this week. Go support the
band like the girders (or girdles) you are!! All dates are opening
for The Undertones, who are a great band even if their street team did
feel a need to spam the ClePunk board.

Monday, April 25 (that's tonight kids): Cleveland, OH
Beachland Ballroom & Tavern
(I think Machine go Boom is opening this show, for you legions of MGB
fans out there)

Wednesday, April 27: Detroit, MI
Majestic Theatre

Thursday, April 28: Chicago, IL
Bottom Lounge

Also: scatrecords.com says the new CV record is out! So go buy
one! Buy the Mice record too while you're at it, it's cool. I'm
gonna get mine later today.

I heard a version from some time ago - not sure how much of that made
it onto the final release because some of it was pretty silly (John
Petkovic covering Donna Summer?) but there was a version of "Play with
Fire" that was really damn cool. I gotta order the released version
from Scat. Have a sticky note on my PC to order that and a bunch of
other indie label stuff.

Hi Beckie, nice to hear about your new addition. Maybe "Underpants"
will make a good song for toilet training when the time comes.
There's not been that much happening that you'd need to read all that
often, although I'm sure the guys will do a bit more touring after the
record is out. Summer is the time for it! The biggest news is ex-CV

Hi!! Sorry I have been a bit scarce around these parts lately, work
has been busy. But here I am to remind everybody who still bothers
to read this thing about the upcoming Cobra Verde tour dates in
support of "Copycat Killers" (I keep wanting to spell that
as "Kopykat Killaz" all gangsta-raplike).

The tour kicks off this weekend in New York where CV will open for
the Undertones on Saturday nite (Apr. 16) at the Knit. NOTE: This
appears to be an early evening 7 pm show because I think there's a
second one later with Oneida and Jason Molina that CV is **not**
playing. See http://www.knittingfactory.com for more details. You
can eat some dinner, watch Cobra Verde and then you have the rest of
the evening off to get drunk. Sounds good to me. If it doesn't
sound good to you, you can still see CV and the Undertones on Sunday
nite (Apr. 17) at the Southpaw in Brooklyn with the Trakes and the
Baby Snakes for all you Zappa nerds. http://www.spsounds.com/ for
details on that.

There are more Cobra Verde weekend show dates posted for St. Louis,
Cleebland, Deetroit, and the ever popular ***CHICAGO*** for the
person on here who has asked repeatedly about that. Visit
http://www.cobraverde.com for all your Cobra Verde tour date needs
and then some.

In other news, I'm still working my tail off and Yahoo Groups
decided to jack the group format around a bit so I need to change
the colors and the layout again this weekend. Is anyone still
reading? Would anyone like a mint? Does anyone have any DKT-MC5
recordings to replace the ones I lost off my ded hard drive? The
world may never know, but I hope I do.

folks,

I'm gonna do one more tour of "the
secondman's middle stand" before I put it to
sleep and get going on a new one (remember,
I'm trying to make records way more regular
these days). another thing that makes this
tour interesting is that it'll be my first
time back for a full-on watt tour in europe
since seven years ago (that was for
"...engine room"). I'm gonna make going over
there more regular too! anyway, a change from
the u.s./canada tour I just did this last fall
is that I got paul roessler (from the
screamers, 45 grave, nina hagen, etc) to take
pete mazich's place cuz he can go out w/me
this time. it'll be raul morales' second time
aboard the watt boat and his first time ever
across the atlantic.

Also, does anybody out there have live recordings or torrents of DKT-

When they said "Shake it like a Polaroid picture" I swear John
thought they meant a bottle of beer! JP could win for Best Shirts,
but only if he quits wearing the boring solid color ones and goes
back to the psych patterns. I was thinking of him today as I
perused a rack in the vintage store. Saw several that he could
really do some justice to!

if only they allowed write-in votes, or better yet just let us make
up our own categories and submit whoever we wanted. Now THAT would be
some fun! :P

Thanks for the tinyurl Chris!!

Hm, well for bass I'm going to have to go with Deasy,
he's darn good. Drums - Didn't Mark win that category
last year? I want to vote for Mark but I almost feel
like I owe a vote to Mehlman cuz he's damn good too
and like I said, I thought Mark won that last year.
But I'll probably plop for Mark out of loyalty and
because he's damn good also and my boss's secretary
thinks he's cute. I suppose the 5 million GBV fans
will all run over and vote for Doug Gillard for best
guitar, but given that I've been getting to be less
and less a fan of his prog and softpopped noodlings
since Gem called it quits (plus my two favorite local
guitarists, Tim Tobias and Derek Deprator, are not
nominated - wtf? to say nothing of Vazzano) I think
Mister Parnin gets my vote there. Dunno what I'm
gonna do about singer-songwriter category yet, the
selection looks rather weak this year, nobody really
jumps out at me.

Ho hum, this poll is such a freakin' poopularity
contest anyway - if only they allowed write-in votes,
or better yet just let us make up our own categories
and submit whoever we wanted. Now THAT would be some
fun! :P

Yeah, they recorded several albums EPs and singles which can usually
be dug up on eBay for a few dollars apiece. "ten to midnight"
and "magna vox" are both decent. just don't confuse them with that
MTV metal band quasimodo.

quazi modo was the "house band" at the grog shop for many years,
unfortunately coinciding with the years i wasn't going out, but i
did get to see them once when they reunited to play the old grog
closing weekend, and that was a really good show. frank is in a
band called cold cold hearts now, that i am still hoping to get to
see as it has other people i know besides him in it.

i also have some old ether net records with mark klein on them which
are funny because they sound pretty much nothing like the stuff mark
has been doing lately.

Read it. Great piece! Thanks Dave! What a complicated guy, yet
perfectly normal.

1977 to 1987? Oh great, that'll cover my high school Ritchie Blackmore
phase. I bought a stratocaster once just because of that sonafabitch :)

Hey Did Franks old band, Quazi Modo ever record anything? I was
suprised to find out he was the frontman, but not really, cause he
does such lovely backing vocals....
