Hi Everybody, This is yr erstwhile Moderator -
First off, if you haven't friended Cobra Verde over on Myspace.com
then you really should cuz that's where all the band stuff goes down
for everybody these days.
Second off, I think they are placing a show in the Cleveland area
this week at an art gallery so if you live there and would like to
see them, go check out their pages or the local papers for whys,
wherefores, last minute plans changes and so forth. As Usual, I Wish
I Could Go, But I Have To Work.
Third off, yes the new album is really truly in the works and I'm
looking forward to it muchly.
Fourth off, I don't post here much anymore. It's not out of lack of
love for Cobra Verde, I feel pretty much the same way about the band
as always, the good and the bad. Still love John, Mark, Frank, as
well as Don whenever he pops in on something, and of course Derek
likewise, and extend all that out to CV's friends such as Watt and
J. Just saw Dino the other night down here, the night before they
got all their equipment stolen in New York  J rocked azz like
I'm pretty sure he will continue to do until he's 90 years old at
this rate.
Nope basically it's just that I do less Internet forum posting
overall given that I work a lot the last 2 years compared to what I
used to do (translate: i finally got some employers who know what
they're doing so i actually have stuff to deal with on a daily basis
instead of sitting around wondering where the next assignment is
coming from).

Also, band chitchat in general has kinda moved off Yahoo lists in the
last couple of years - I know around 2003 Yahoo Groups were really
THE place to be for this stuff and I was probably in like 10 groups
but now it's more like, it's all on private PhPBB boards or else it's
on MySpace where the bands get to control a lot of what gets put up
without having to pay an HTML coder every time they need to add a
show to their website. It's really better that way having control in
the hands of the band cuz everybody fights about it less and frankly
the main reason I was doing this group in the first place is CV never
put up their tour dates so I never knew when anything was, and just
wanted to help get the word out as to that. Some of the stuff I
ended up getting involved in as a result of posting on here, I could
have really skipped over in my life, but I just filed it under Crazy
Internet List Shit and moved on. Anyway it was amusing, up to a
point.

I've considered deleting this group because many if not most of the
other Yahoo groups I used to post on are deleted by their mods at
this point, but I am not the group owner and can't make this place go
away, plus there's always the potential for it to be useful if the
band ever does another major tour and ppl want to meet up, etc.
There's also always the chance somebody other than me who has more
time on their hands will start another bored for this type of thing
and if they do, more power to 'em.

Anyways I just wanted to leave a note and say Thanks for all the
Swedish fish and explain why I didn't post here much so nobody would
think I didn't like the band anymore. John Petkovic's bands are and
have been and will always be a part of my life and that's just how it
is. and I'm glad they're in the hands of somebody like John cuz
while I might not always think he's right, he has decent judgment and
is one of the smarter people to come out of the last 25 years of
Cleveland rockdumb. i can always count on him to eventually do
something interesting! :)

Signing off for now
  - S

I haven't seen one of these in a while...read on peeps!!!

hey hey all....
OK, so we were supposed to work on a bunch of new songs that we were planning to
preview TONIGHT at THE CHURCH, this DIY-BYOB space in Cleveland. (2681 West 14th
Street, Cleveland's Tremont neighborhood, OH. www.theclevelandchurch.com).

One problem: We all went out and got too wasted to make it to practice. But the
hangovers are subsiding, so we're going to get together before the show to work
out some of the tunes....hopefully...

Speaking of which....the new disc is coming along and should be done in a month
or two... it's going to have a lot of different twists to it and it sounds
pretty different from anything else we've done. we'll have songs up on our
myspace page when they're closer to being finished...

oh yeah, the page is www.myspace.com/cobraverdemusic ...it has all sorts of
stuff to check out...(my brain is too fried to recall everyhting there)

also, our "riot industry" video is up on our myspace page and on youtube... it
stars Mike Watt (minutement, firehose, stooges) as a dude in a flannel bathrobe
who wakes up to a bowl of cereal and his TV set-- only to bum cause we appear in
all his favorite shows. George Wendt ('cheers,' michael jackson's 'thriller'
video, etc) hosts a fishing show...Rudy Ray Moore, aka Dolemite pops up along
with belly dancers and punk bowler chicks... It eventutally drives Mr. Watt to
sing along to the tune on his own show "Idle American"...

anyway, have a good weekend...
hungover but happy....

Hey I finally listened to CV's version of "Waiting for a Girl" and it sounds
sweet - John's singing is admirably restrained, and ultimately befitting the
song....

I always liked Foreigner's more rockin' songs (Double Vision, etc), but this
voer version is spot-on....

Hello! Happy Spring!

Some of you might know that I've been recording one rock cover song a month
for my "12 Cover-12 Months" series this year.

I've just uploaded the cover for April - a rockin' version of a song called
"Paper Dolls" by a late 70s, Champaign, IL band called Screams.

   Read the press release here:
   http://www.mi2n.com/press.php3?press_nb=88653

Check out my version of Paper Dolls here:
http://www.purevolume.com/dfactor

You can hear the original version of "Paper Dolls" here -
http://adamscustomslideshows.com/screams_record.htm
(courtesy of David Adams, Screams' singer, who has the LP up at his company
website for download. There's also a cool live set from Cleveland there too)

Over and out - thanks for listening.

Hey Dfactor, every three seconds with Cobra Verde in it is three
seconds where we don't have to look at Good Charlotte. Hope the guys
had free beers in the green room at least!

But yeah, I would like to hear the band rock out on some more of
their own material too. Here's hoping. It's been a bad year for
flooded basements and all.

Hello Beckie, I had to come post over here because I am eating my
first MARSHMALLOW PEEPS of the season! Have you had any yet? Are
you converting your little one to peep-eating? Once you've gone PEEP

Hey CV, I know you were excited about the OC exposure
op (I would be too!), but in the end, is a
three-second glimpse of a great rock band playing a
doofus' 80s cover *really* worth it?

Not judging, just worth pondering.

Hope the iTunes track takes off, and then people come
back to Riot Industry!

Hey Hey Hey ...

How's it going? I could tell you about all the action on Planet
Cobra Verde... The hot new album we're working on... Or how our
drummer
Mark is homeless because a flood consumed his house... Or how an
airport terror squad accused us of being terrorists...

But ultimately it would come back to this OTHER thing:

At 9 p.m. Thursday, March 16, we -- Cobra Verde -- will make our
prime-time acting debut on "THE OC." You know, the Fox drama about
happy-go-lucky rich people in Orange County. The OC folks have been
down with
the CV action and have been trying to get us to come out to their
sprawling Manhattan Beach studios -- which, by the way, is in
Manhattan Beach,
which is NOT in Orange County....

At first, we figured they'd have us give back rubs to "The Hot Moms"
on
the show or play stunt men or something. Nope. Last month, we flew
out
there to not only play, but also act. DUDE, we're like playing a
FOREIGNER TRIBUTE BAND. I can't give away too much, but I
am "authorized" to
reveal this:

The main guy, Seth, asks us to play the 18th birthday party of his
buddy, Ben, who really loves Journey. Seth prefers Foreigner, so he
asks us
to play Foreigner tunes, instead -- like "Waiting for a Girl Like
You."
(Coming up ANY DAY on iTUNES!)

The OC folks even made posters to hang out The Bait Shop -- the club
where everyone parties on the show. You can see it --- and some other
pics Tim and I took -- on cobraverde.com or our myspace site,
http://www.myspace.com/cobraverdemusic

The pics tell only part of "the story." For two days, we went through
enough '80 clothes to stock an A-Ha (or Killers AND Yeah Yeah Yeahs)
video, from mesh shirts to trench coats to those weird, floppy '80
boots.
The overriding theme behind our "look" was, "Foreigner, Ramones, New
Wave, Rock 'n' Roll -- it's all good." I guess it is when it comes to
'80s nostalgia.

Tim wore a zebra-striped sleeveless shirt. Frank was breezy in his
mesh
shirt. Mark felt like a flasher in his trench coat. Ed looked like a
fisherman-turned-safety-patrol-guard in his yellow vest. I had a hard
time breathing in my red dog collar.

Like I said, check out the sites: www.myspace.com/cobraverdemusic
and,
of course, cobraverde.com. The tunes -- uh, I mean, that slow-dance
anthem, "Waiting for a Girl Like You" -- is going up on iTunes any
day,
too.

Starting Thursday, we're also going to have a diary about about the
whole experience, featuring stuff like:
1. Our worst bands and songs list;
2. True Hollywood Story behind-the-scenes gossip;
3. Reviews of the junk food buffet on the set.

Until then, hope you are all well and thanks again for being who you
are, wherever you are....

Yr pals...
John, Mark, Tim, Frank, Ed

That's all right Dfactor, we've been short of traffic
lately (my bad, kinda) and I'm sure Cobra Verde
doesn't mind.

As long as I'm typing I'll throw in some Cobra Verde
tidbits. I ran into John briefly at a show last month
and asked him what was up with the band and told him
how much some people on here missed them touring. He
explained that due to various personal commitments and
stuff, they weren't able to tour for a bit but instead
were heading right back into the studio to work on the
next Cobra Verde album. Sounds like a plan to me!

Also, while former Verdester Don Depew shut down
Studio 609 awhile ago to go work at a bigger studio,
the good news is that Mark Klein has taken over the
former 609 and is renovating the place. I'm glad about
that, 609 was a cool little joint.

Till next time, CV fans,

Hey---I meant to post this sooner but I was busy eating Thanksgiving

the content is OK) recently ran a CV interview and feature, which you

also, if you're in the cleveland area and you want to see some nice
old pictures of CV members (specifically john and doug) playing live
in DOS, as well as rare photos of Devo, the Dead Boys, and other old
punk stuff, drop by the Cleveland's Screaming photo exhibit at Bela
Dubby gallery located at 13321 Madison in Lakewood. The photo show is
free and will be up all month. OK I'm done. Have a good one till
next time :)

I really like the last picture. In fact, I've got a new wallpaper now.

Just got through watching this documentary called Punk: Attitude.
http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0446765/

I came home from work and my roommates were about to watch it so I sat
on the couch and watched it as well. Pretty good flick, though nothing
from Watt or really anything on the Minutemen. But they at least
started with the MC5 and Stooges and moved forward. Even had a bit in
there about The Pop Group and the Dead Boys.

Soooo I finally got a chance to see the boys for the first time in
some months Sunday at the Ingenuity festival in downtown Cleveland.
It was pretty exciting to see CV playing right in the shadow of
Terminal Tower, which is probably my favorite building ever, and they
had beautiful weather and a good-sized crowd especially considering
it was almost the end of the festival and lots of people were heading
for home. Got to hear all the usual "Easy Listening" and Underpants
stuff as well as a cover of "Temptation" with all the classic oo-
ooos. Aside from one song, I forget which one, where John started
singing in a different key from the band, everything sounded great.
Frank and Tim both got off some hot solos. Mark is still (a) ageless
and (b) the best drummer in town. John was chugging Dasani instead
of beer and I am pleased to report this did not impact the overall
quality of his performance. The only sour note was some guy,
apparently a festival organizer or something, who barged onstage mid-
set and started complaining the band was too loud because you could
hear them down in the kids' pavilion area or something. The band AND
the audience were both like huh, wha?? Um, first of all, the band
wasn't particularly loud (I have been to enough outdoor shows to have
some idea what I'm talking about here) And also, Mister Yuppie
Shorts, if you don't want an amplified full-on-rock band playing your
little "family-friendly" festival, then don't book one, k? and maybe
then I'll stay home instead of spending money down at ArtMetro.
People have to understand that not everybody wants to hear that
tweedly-doo kiddy shite all day long at these festivals,
and "Everybody" includes people with $ (sorry to be mercenary but
it's the only language some folks unnerstand). I was happy that CV
soldiered on despite this annoyance, and would also like to note that
I am in no way affiliated with the band, I am just a fan, so if any
Thomas Mulready henchmen want to get pissed off over this post kindly
don't take it out on CV, ok? I call it as I see it and I don't take
Political Correctol... getting back on the topic of the show, the
people behind me were all like, "Wow, these guys sound like a cross
between the New York Dolls annnndddd..." but they never finished the
thought. Also about 27 people were taking pictures and shooting
video up front so I'm assuming there will be some cool shots on the
web at some point. anyway thanks for another memorable show guys, I
enjoyed both you and the yummy butterfly fries. xoxo, sqp

Ha. A friend of mine is a big OC fan so I'll mention this to him. I

OH, NO, EGADS, WHOA .... it's COBRA VERDE on "THE OC"!!!

Oh, yes. On Sept. 15, "THE OC" will feature "Get the Party Started,"
off our new disc "COPYCAT KILLERS." Those "OC" people wanted
something
"hot" and "snazzy" to "make the show more exciting" ... within
minutes
the phone rang and they requested some CV action. Unfortunately, they
turned down a scene we wrote to go with the song...

SUGGESTED TREATMENT: "Cobra Verde plays 'quirky' hippie jams in the
cafeteria as Seth and Summer go wilding in high school -- smoking pot
and
getting all horny in the janitor's closet..."

Mark even offered to drop his drumsticks, break out his jump suit and
mop and play the janitor! But no... Anyway, CV is going to be
on "THE
OC" Sept. 15... Last month, we were on "Rescue Me." This month "THE
OC." Next month ... "The Apprentice"?

OTHER CV NEWS: A bunch of reviews digging the new disc, "COPYCAT
KILLERS," are out, including something very nice that appears
in "ROLLING
STONE"....a lot of the stuff is up on cobraverde.com... also, if
you're
interested, john rambles on about why we did a covers record, go to:

SHOW: CV is playing "Ingenuity," this ARTS and TECHNOLOGY
extravangaza
in downtown cleveland at 5:30 p.m. Sunday... in fitting with theme,
we're going to play songs as Tim demonstrates how to take low-res
pics
with his CELL PHONE...

TRIVIAL CV NEWS: Frank took a blue ribbon for 'best tomatoes" at the
Ohio State Fair....Mark has been spending his summer building a
recording studio and retrofitting his Chevy Cavalier for a demolition
derby...Ed has been deep in studying Latin (unfortunately he can't
find anyone
to talk to)....John has been eating a lot 'flavored' popcorn while
seeing a bunch of movies, including doozies like 'hustle & flow" and
"grizzly man"...(if you wanna check out a story he did on jim
jarmusch and
'broken flowers,' go to:

ertainment/1123438511209430.xml&coll=2

HOW TO HELP NEWS: We're bummed with the what's going on in the wake
of
hurricane katrina...New Orleans has always been a blast for us and
the
best off days we've ever had on tour have been in Louisiana and
Mississippi...The toll on humanity and the architecture is
terrible....but
an untold story is the plight of animal shelters in the
area...if you
want to donate, there are a number of places, including the aspca
disaster relief fund: www.aspca.org...

SAD, SAD NEWS: We were also saddened to find out that our friend
Michael Dahlquist, the great drummer and all-around (and i mean ALL-
AROUND)
nice guy in one of our favorite bands SILKWORM, passed away in a
terrible accident on july 9th....id rather not get into what happened
(if you
don't know want to find out, do a search) and rather say rest in
peace,
michael...

Hope you're all safe and well...

john, ed, mark, frank and tim....

Danny, don't freakin' scare me like that...

Hey Peeps sorry I have been so quiet lately. I've
been really busy with work stuff and a couple non-CV
music-related projects. I will be back at some point
down the road. That is if I'm not too pissed off
about all the CV list members who refuse to friend me
back on MySpace.

In Cobra Verde-related news, sorta, I saw Rainy Day
Saints featuring ex-CVer Dave Swanson open for My Dad
is Dead at the Grog last weekend. Both bands were
swell and I had a real good time even though that
means I have to work all next weekend to make up for
taking time off. Oh well! The price we pay for the
rock, yanno?

peace,
sqp

http://www.scamcity2000.com looks like it's an expired domain.

Darn, I liked to check in once in a while :(
I guess JP is simply too busy for it nowadays....

Yeah, I haven't seen it yet but the previews looked cool. I watch
very little TV anymore, I am never home or when I am I'm too busy. but
I have always been a Dennis Leary fan so hope to catch it sometime.

Wonder whatever happened to that Shirley MacLaine movie that "Modified
Frankenstein" was supposed to be in?
