Description

This is a group meant to augment the various DC5 YAHOO groups out there. It is meant for discussing the different versions of the songs we love and don't love by the DC5.

In respect of copyright laws only excerpts of the songs being compared will be provided. The source LP will be given so you can go and hunt it down.

Different versions mean comparing Mono, ERFS and Stereo. Also, comparing songs with different alternate tracks, whether they are vocal tracks, drum tracks or instrument tracks. Some fans never heard the USA version or British version of a particular song that IS different from what they grew up with. That is the sole purpose of this group.

I point out that I am no expert. Just a fan who has noticed different versions who wants to share this info.

Special thank you in advance to both John & Lynn Briggs for the sharing of their first hand knowledge. Additional thank you to Rob Bolton as I "lifted" a few jpg images of LP & 45 covers to aid in locating source material.

TERMINOLOGY:
Mono...Monaural-One sound, one channel, one signal, literally one ear. All USA EPIC releases from "Glad All Over" to "Eveybody Knows" were originally released in this manner. Includes all British LPs except "If Somebody Loves You" and after.

ERFS...Electronically Rechannelled for Stereo, Fake Stereo, Simulated Stereo. All USA EPIC releases from "Glad All Over" to "Satisfied With You" were released in this manner and for the most part sound terrible. British LPs were not released in this manner.

Stereo (from 4 track studio recording process) (re-releases of earlier songs taken from LPs prior to USA EPIC "5 by 5" on compilation LPs)

"True" Stereo (from 8 track studio recording process) (all USA LPs labeled as Stereo including "5 by 5" and after, except for certain songs from the above category that appear on the compilation LPs). British releases starting from "If Somebody Loves You" and onward were released in this manner.

VINYL ORIENTED.
