MUSIC FOR YOUNG PEOPLE; ACHIEVEMENT FOR LIFE.
The DCYOP is a nonprofit organization, providing instrumental music education and enrichment to approximately 600 students, ages 4 1/2-19, in the greater metropolitan DC area. The organization provides instruction for all orchestral and wind ensemble (band) instruments from beginning to advanced high school students. The program also supports 6 orchestras (2 full orchestras, 4 string orchestras), 3 wind ensembles, two chamber string orchestras, and multiple small chamber groups.
65-70% of students enrolled in the DCYOP each session are residents of the District of Columbia. It is the organization's objective to keep costs affordable for all those who participate. All students from the greater DC area, Maryland, and Virginia are invited to attend. Through a subsidy provided by the DC Public Schools, DC residents receive a reduced tuition rate.
