Last weekend I went to Houston for a swim meet. While I was there, I
saw my friend and cowriter Jen Rathbun perform on Saturday Night at
JP Hops House.
http://www.jenrathbun.com
Jen was highly entertaining.
Sunday I saw my friend and cowriter Leanne Timura. She's a terrific
writer and the Houston NSAI Workshop Coordinator.

I competed in the South Central Zone Short Course Masters Swimming
Championships. I raced in the 40 - 44 age group and set Zone records
in the 50 Backstroke, 100 Backstroke, and 100 Individual Medley.
The times I did will probably wind up being top ten in the country.
Every time I compete, I learn. During and after the competition I
asked myself:
"What can I do to swim faster?"
"What must I do to improve?"
Then I made a list of the answers that came from asking the
questions. Now I've put together a plan to prepare for my next
competition.
What does swimming have to do with songwriting?
The point is all of us are where we are,
many of us have dreams and goals of improving and achieving
songwriting success. Ask yourself the following questions and find
the answers.
1) What do I need to do to write better songs?
2) What do I need to do to have more songwriting success?
3) What are my songwriting goals?
4) What are my songwriting plans?
5) What are my songwriting habits?
6) What habits do I need to have?
7) How am I going to remind myself to take action?
Write on!
