on this latest IFS CHALLENGE / CALL FOR LYRICS
I'm getting a lot of submissions but many are missing the mark
so I rewrote the blurb to clarify
who the producer /artist is and
what he's looking for,
feel free to resubmit.
I recently received this email from
an artist / producer friend of mine
"Ande I need excellent inspiring lyrics for my next CD.
I'd like to write all new songs for it and
have the CD available to sell
when I go speak at events and churches.
I'm looking for lyrics that are
positive, encouraging, some about creativity
Words that urge and inspire people to
explore their talents and dreams.
I'm NOT looking for:
LOVE songs,
overtly Christian lyrics, or
Country lyrics.
I lean more towards pop, R&B, and Jazz,
Again, no songs. Just inspiring lyrics please.
IFS readers (this part is from Ande)
on this opportunity, I invite you to send me STARTS:
concepts, choruses, lines and partially written lyrics.
I'm looking for Great Lines and ideas that make me go WOW!
No attachments, paste your idea in the email
One idea per email
Email 5 or fewer ideas to
AndeRasmussen@...
in the subject field write
IFS POS
the deadline is midnight Wed May 18th
I'll read each submission and email you back with either:
1) "PASS" which means I'm not interested in working on that
particular idea at this time
or
2) "YES" and along with some suggestions and tweaks,
that we can attempt to weave into a complete lyric
to pitch and offer to the producer / artist
If your idea is accepted,
I'll attempt to cowrite a lyric with you
then if I feel the lyric is good enough and ready
I'll pitch it to the producer
Who will either
accept it,
tweak it or
reject it
If it is accepted,
it will be a cowrite and hopefully a well written and produced song,
that could wind up on his CD.
I look forward to reading your submissions.
PLEASE Work on WOWING ME, I'm looking for great lines and concepts,
things that are fresh, interesting, unique, and original
i'll know it when I read it.
thank you,
Ande

IFS Reader Doak Turner wrote some really excellent articles for
MusicDish.
Here's where you can find his article archive:
http://www.musicdish.com/mag/list.php3?author=248
One of his latest is an "Interview With Hit Songwriter and Author
Jason Blume
Blume's New Book, 'Inside Songwriting: Getting to the Heart of
Creativity'"
By: Doak Turner (Associate Writer) 2004-04-13

I just read it today and it's really outstanding.
Check it out and take it's message to heart.
It also may help you with the IFS POS challenge.

IFS reader Barbara Cloyd asked me to share this with y'all.
APPLY NOW - DEADLINE MAY 19TH
Barbara Cloyd Presents
Play for Publishers Workshop
June 25 – 27, Nashville, TN
APPLY NOW - DEADLINE MAY 19TH
This weekend event is designed for writers with dreams of having
their songs recorded in Nashville. Writers must apply and fifteen
applicants will be carefully selected for their originality,
creativity and craftsmanship. During the weekend there will be three
listening sessions, each attended by two publishers. Every writer
will play a song at each session, live or recorded, and the
publishers will give feedback on the craft and commercial potential
of the writing. After the songs have been heard there will be
question/answer time. Over the course of the weekend the participants
will:
· Be heard by 6 different established, successful publishers
· Hear 45 song evaluations by pros who know what gets cut
· Meet 14 other talented writers who are serious about success
The publishers are not being paid for their time. They listen because
they have a true desire to discover potential hit writers. They are:
Chris Oglesby, Oglesby Writer Management
Scott Gunter, Universal
Rusty Gaston, Song Garden
Cliff Audretch, Windswept
Ralph Murphy, ASCAP Nashville
(one other to be announced)
In addition to the intense workshop sessions, writers can play at a
writers night at The French Quarter, and will have reserved seats for
a show by hit songwriters at The Bluebird Cafe.
