Dear IFS Friends,
It's funny how inspiration comes and goes, depending upon whats going
on in my life.
Lately I've been helping ASG with it's song contest so I haven't been
doing much songwriting. The final event is Wednesday June 2nd. I'll
be there, ASG is going to announce and award the winners in the 2004
Austin Song Contest.
Yesterday I asked john Arthur martinez if he'd play in ASG's writer
in the round on Wedneday and he agreed.
I helped process ASG's Kerrville Folk Festival Songwriting School
Scholarship Recipients.
Below I've included the list of finalists in ASG's contest and I'm
thrilled to see many IFS readers, friends, cowriters and future
cowriters on the list. Congratulations and good luck.
I sat beside Floramay Holliday in a restaurant today.

I read this quote for the first time.
One secret to helping dreams come true is recognizing that we don't
know how to do it. Our society would tell us: Go get answers. Find
somebody who does know. Study those who have gone before you. Those
steps are important but deep down we also need to trust the process.
After all, if we knew all the steps and had done this before, what we
are building would be less than a dream. By leaning into our longing,
we feel a greater expression of ourselves each day. And in this
greater state, we begin to co-create with God, trusting that the
steps will be revealed, even if only one at a time.

congratulations to Shelly King, Nancy (These Boots Are Made For
Walkin') Sinatra has just released one of Shelley's songs on her new
album! The song is "Texas Blue Moon". Shelley released it on
her "The Highway" CD in 2002. It has now been covered by Nancy
Sinatra and Lee Hazelwood on an album titled Nancy & Lee 3, available
on Warner International Records in Australia and New Zealand
currently. It went to #15 on the Australian country charts the first
week.
US and Europe release dates are upcoming.

an artist asked me
"If I find a couple of songs I like is it something that you as
songwriters have backgrounds to or would I have to find a band to
play the music? I am having a very hard time listening to the music
because I have dial up so I am going over to my fathers sometime next
week because he has cable connection. Thanks for your input.
Sincerely,
Heather
hi heather,
good question
most often when singers are going to create a CD
they've selected a producer and a studio to create the music
you don't need to have a band
as an example my friend denny martin is very good and can gather the
necessary musicians for your project
www.dennymartinmusic.com
that way he can create tracks that perfectly fit you and your key
some songwriters have backing tracks without vocals on their demos
i do on a few of mine
though I prefer for the artist to recreate the track
to me it makes them seem more serious about their project
your job is to find the very best songs you can
