the Texas Grammy Chapter relocated to Penn Field

Last month Texas Chapter said goodbye to its home of nearly 10 years
and relocated to the heart of Austin's downtown cultural district.
The Chapter relocated on July 16 th to a remarkable spot at historic
Penn Field, a renovated military base now home to an eclectic mix of
commercial establishments. Members of the Recording Academy and the
public will be invited to attend an open house to learn about the
organization and check out its new digs.

Amphitheater. Live music, food and exhibits are all part of these
festivities in honor of the Latin music culture.
This event is free and open to the public.


Tuesday Aug. 24 — In The Mix: Urban Music

The Texas Chapter's latest installment of In The Mix will bring
together leaders in the urban music industry for an evening of
networking and an opportunity to share knowledge on the latest urban
music news. The event will be hosted by E-Poppi and Frankie J. E-
Poppi is a GRAMMY Award-winning producer and engineer who has worked
with Beyoncé, Missy Elliot and Destiny's Child, and Frankie J is a
well-known Columbia recording artist. The event will also showcase a
dance performance by the Inertia Dance Company, comprised of Houston-
area teenage boys. The company, run by Houston ISD teacher Sharon
Roberts, won every hip-hop dance contest they entered this year
including the prominent M.A. Dance Company's National High School
Dance Championships.

Unsolicited Demo Submission Policy

We welcome submissions from bands and singer-songwriters however due
to increasing volume please try to follow these guidelines:

1. Style: we are primarily looking for singer-songwriters, artists
and bands that range from rootsy soul to melodic pop rock. We are not
the right label for hip hop/rap, mainline R&B, smooth jazz, heavy
rock or pop idols.

2. Quality: A good indicator that you're ready to seek a label deal
is that you've been playing out, receiving good local press and are
considered a "hot" act in your local scene. Your demo should be a
good representation of your sound. If you've just started out as an
artist and are bursting with excitement about hearing your recorded
voice for the first time, please read the first sentence over again.

3. Submission: the fastest way to have your material reviewed is to
email your website link to our Director of A&R, Angelo Montrone
(angelo@...). Assuming you have audio on your site, we prefer
this.

The other option is to mail us a demo package with your email and/or
phone contact. We don't return packages unless you specify this and
provide a return envelope. Finally, if you want to get an idea of

     I've been an IFS subscriber since the beginning, but wanted to
ask a favor.  I believe I've sent some recent articles on a local
singer/songwriter, David Wayne Mathias.   David recently released an
Independent CD, "I Found A New Love."    The producer is Nelson
Larkin.  Nelson produced Toby Keith's first 9 number one's.   I
suggested David hook up with my neighbor, John "Pap" McCollum.   Pap
has been a Nashille writer for years and has 95 cuts that have been
recorded by major artists.    Most recently, John Michael Montgomery
off of his self-titled CD, "Heaven Sent Me You."    Pap also co-wrote
a song off of Toby Keith's "Boomtown" CD, but I don't remember the
name of the song right off hand.    Pap is good friend's with John
Michael Montgomery and Eddie.   Pap recently told me that when Eddie
and T-Roy Gentry were starting their harmonies sucked.  Pap was over
at John Michael's house one day, Eddie and Troy were upstairs and Pap
went up there to tell those guys not to quit their daytime jobs. 
It's a good thing they did.   I just found out Pap was my neighbor. 
I knew he owned houses in my neigbhorhood, but didn't know he moved
into one of them.  So Pap has invited me over to the house and to go
on his walks with him.  He walks 5 miles a day.  Pap is in his early
70's.   He knows a lot of people though.  He told me at the release
party that he's been wanting to meet me for a long time.   We've
talked on the phone but that's about it.   He remembered though.  
was just asking for advice at the time as I was just getting
started.   Now maybe he can help me too.   Or at least I can  hear
the Nashville stories you don't normally hear in the news.    Pap and
Nelson just recently signed producer/manager contracts with David
last month.  David is going to go to Nashville again soon to record
for a promo package and shop for a record deal.   There was a song
that David and Pap recorded that Pap co-wrote, "Atlanta Upside
Down."    Nelson flipped and invited David down to get this all
started.   "Atlanta Upside Down" was on hold for Alan Jackson for 13
months, til Alan decided to write all the songs himself on that
particular project.   Anyway, I just wanted to ask if you can post
the info in a future IFS about David's recent CD release and his
website info.   They can check out the clips off his CD on the site
and there's a review on their by "Angry Country."   David's website

Ande, I recently joined the IFS newsletter list.  I read your bio and
I am
truly impressed by your songwriting resume. You have certainly not
been
sitting on your hands. Working a "real job", while juggling marriage
and
children and making the most of your lyric writing capability, is not
easy.
Since you write lyrics and must connect with others to achieve a
finished
song product, the hurdles are plentiful. The fact that you have
accomplished
so much is truly inspiring. I am fortunate to be able to play an
instrument
just well enough to write my songs alone. I mostly spend time
recruiting
others to help me cut better demos, when possible. More and more I
find,
depending on myself is the most efficient way to get things done.
Someone
like you who must (or chooses to) utilize others simply to get a
complete
song written and then has the energy to get the songs heard and cut
is a
real inspiration. Thanks for creating IFS, how do you find the time
to do
all this?? Swimming too? Actually watching  television? Wow.
