I hope this email finds you well

What's new with your songwriting?

I wanted to let you know that back in August I stepped off of Austin
Songwriters Group's board.

Infact this is the first time in a longtime where I have almost no
commitments to non profits and I've pretty much made up my mind that
I'm going to keep it that way for the next few years since my kids
are in 10th and 8th grade. My son is done with high school in 2007
and my daughter in 2009. Where does the time go?

I encourage you to do something to improve your health and fitness.

I'm continuing to swim and compete. I'm happy to say this past summer
I swam the fastest 50 long course meter butterfly time in the United
States for men in the 40 – 44 age group and I was second fastest 200
meter IM time. Now I'm training for the short course meters 200 IM.
Most importantly when I'm not swimming, I easily and quickly gain
weight, so my regular workouts keep my weight in control.

I train Monday – Friday from 6:30 am to 8:00 am. I live 40 miles from
the pool so I have to leave my home by 5:45 am to arrive on time.
When I get to the pool I have a coach who gives me the workout and
teammates to train with. If I had to train on my own, without a
coach and with out teammates I'm sure I would not train as hard.

If you want to become a better songwriter
these concepts will work for you.

Set goals. A goal is a specific target tied to a specific date.

Set regular training times.

Show up for practice.

Be ready when you arrive

Get a coach.

Do what your coach tells you to do.

Put yourself around teammates. (Cowriters and peers)

Push yourself each day to make tiny incremental improvements.


If you keep working hard each day over a long period of time,
you'll be totally amazed with what you can accomplish.

American Songwriter Magazine names Paul Zollo as senior Editor

Nashville-based magazine operates under new ownership and management

NASHVILLE, TN (PRWEB) September 10, 2004 -- Paul Zollo has been named
Senior Editor to the recently reborn American Songwriter magazine.
Zollo, who is the former editor of SongTalk, wrote the
book "Songwriters On Songwriting," [Da Capo, a collection of 62
interviews. Zollo will be based at the magazine's Los Angeles office.
American Songwriter features stories and interviews with the world's
greatest songwriters.

American Songwriter magazine, which was founded in 1984, is now under
new ownership and has a new publisher, Thomas Clement, and new chief
editor, Doug Waterman. The publication will maintain its bi-monthly
status, as well as preserve the original mission of American
Songwriter's founders, which is to serve songwriters‚ interests with
an engaging periodical. "The July/August issue marks the magazine's
20th anniversary and will incorporate a graphic redesign, heightened
editorial diversification and expanded newsstand distribution," says
Clement. Waterman adds, "We'll also be undertaking various grassroots
strategies to elevate its presence as "The Voice of the Songwriting
Community‚"

Vickie Lucero and Julie Carr met at Southwest Texas State University
(Now called Texas State University) in San Marcos, TX where they were

Moore and began to develop the careers of Terri Hendrix, Slaid

Hamilton, Ruthie Foster, Eliza Gilkyson and the list goes on. Now,
Propaganda is handling event coordination and marketing for
Threadgill's Restaurants and the Old Settler's Music Festival in
conjunction with music PR for their long-time roster and new artist
development acts like Patricia Vonne, Eric Blakely, Jeff Plankenhorn
and the South Austin Jug Band.

In 2003 Propaganda was extremely proud to handle the PR for the
Ribbon of Highway~ Endless Skyway Tribute to Woody Guthrie featuring
the best in troubadour singer songwriters celebrating Woody's legend
on a national tour.

One of my favortie demo singers and best friends, Shelly Rann, has a
niece named Jerica Hunt who was critically injured in a car accident
a year ago. Jerica's famliy has had to face some huge financial
hurdles as you can imagine while dealing with the difficulty of
Jerica's slow recovery. Shelly put together a benefit awhile back to
help with the family's financial burden but the results were less
than what we had hoped for. If you can find it in your heart to help

recently Bob Dylan was nominated for a Nobel Prize in literature, the
following article "Dylan: Poet, Or Songwriter?"
poses an interesting question:

Songwriter Obituaries:

Bill Spivery
Alabama native Bill Spivery, whose song "Operator" was made famous by
the Manhattan Transfer, has died at a suburban nursing home. He was
73.


Jim Hurt
Nashville songwriter Jim Hurt, who co-wrote Alabama's "Love in the
First Degree," has died of liver cancer in Nashville at the age of
65.


Billy Davis
Songwriter Billy Davis, who wrote a number of R&B hits and was part
of the creative team behind a landmark campaign for Coca-Cola, died
Sept. 2 in New Rochelle, N.Y., after a long illness. He was 76.

The Detroit native (born Roquel William Davis) was one of four men
credited with writing "I'd Like to Buy the World a Coke," for a 1971
Coca-Cola TV commercial.

The enormously popular anthem later morphed into a hit with slighly
different lyrics, "I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing (In Perfect
Harmony)."

Under the pseudonym Tyran Carlo, he co-wrote several Jackie Wilson
hits, including "Higher and Higher" and "Lonely Teardrops."
