Dear IFS Readers,

I've got a super busy day but I need to get out some timely
information.

In this issue you'll find details on Bruce Rouse's funeral
arrangements. I plan to attend his 2:00 pm service to pay my
respects to this wonderful man and his family, but I regret I won't
be able to attend his 5:00 pm event. Bruce was a wonderful man he
always greeted me with a big smile and a hug. He and Liz did so much
for singersongwriters.

I didn't have time to put together a house concert article but here's
a great website for house concert resources. If you're a performing
songwriter, well run house concerts can be excellent venues for you,
maybe the BEST. They tend to be non smoking, the audience is there to
listen to you, you're likely to make more money, win more fans and
sell more cds.

http://www.jrp-graphics.com/houseconcerts/resources.html

I received an email from Sheila Marshall that she cut one of my songs
and it's on her up coming CD. Can't wait to hear it.

I spoke with Idgy Vaughn, she's been in the studio with Paul Pearcy
cutting her new Cd, she sent me 8 songs and they sound sweet. Lloyd
Maines played on a few songs and Ruthie Foster sang back up.

Thanks to everyone who sent in their IFS OPP ideas.
I'll be in touch with you soon.

I pitched 3 songs on the opp at www.songu.com
Songu.com is really excellent you oughta check it out.

Wish you the best,

Ande

In the Studio
with Gary Powell
(A New Home and Studio Concert Series)

http://garypowell.com/inthestudio.html

This thing has been going on for over 25 years. This is the home and
recording studio of Gary Powell and Amy Person. For all these years
Gary's house has been a place where musicians have tested their new
material, recorded their latest projects and celebrated their
achievements. Now you can enjoy these nationally acclaimed
performers in an intimate and interactive atmosphere of no more than
twenty-two of your neighbors.

First, you will be entertained in the home-theatre in a smoke-free,
crowd-free, dust-free, idiot-free (not guaranteed) environment.
After intermission we will move to the recording studio to view these
artists in a private recording session. This is how it's always been
over here.

Amy suggests that instead of complaining about what Austin has
become, that we take a bold step and create the Austin we would most
like to live in. That said, this ain't the Armadillo! You will be
expected to wear shirt and shoes, but that's about it. Together, we
will create the Austin experience we all want to have. If you would
like to bring your favorite beer or wine, we will be happy to chill
it for you.

In the Studio

Come see and experience Austin's most amazing singer in the very
studio where he becomes the voice of some of the world's favorite
characters. Craig Toungate has international credits on over twenty
album projects being sold in 47 countries.

Meet many of these voices and more...in this one extraordinary singer
in the studio where we does his thang. - GP

Friday, March 18 - 8pm / $45
Mad Agnes
Intelligent songwriting, intricate, whimsical Trio harmonies.
http://www.madagnes.com/

Mad Agnes is a trio of singers and instrumentalists who I heard at
the wonderful Neverlandia Austin house concert last fall. They made
me remember why I chose the music business. I would say, that this
trio brims with experience and sophisticated musical gifts, funny
showmanship and the most agile, rambunctious harmonies and that the
beauty can be intense, however, the BOSTON HERALD already said it.

This is absolutely the way popular music should have gone! -GP

Saturday, April 23 - 7:30pm / $40
Philippe Bertaud
Jazz, Brazilian Guitarist
http://www.philippebertaud.com/
Every week I am referred many new artists who wish to work in
Austin. The entire grapevine called me when this charming Frenchman
showed up. Unless you are in the studio business you would never be
able to experience this much passion and musicianship this closely.

This is what date-night should look like. --GP

Saturday, April 9 - 7:30pm / $45
Wild Basin Winds
Woodwind Quintet
http://www.wildbasinwinds.com/

Tom Hale, Daris Hale, Ian Davidson, Mathew Krejci and Gary Sperl make
up the Wild Basin Winds quintet. They were founded in 1996 by five
talented musicians who have performed together in orchestras around
the globe for almost two decades. As accomplished performers, college
professors and lively compatriots they are delighted to be offering
polished and imaginative concerts and educational presentations to
audiences everywhere.

These guys have recorded in the studio here and also played my Disney
orchestra sessions. This is classical musicianship at it's best, up
close and fabulous! - GP

Saturday, June 25 - 7:30pm / $40
Adam Holzman
Classical Guitarist
http://www.adamholzman.net/

Adam began his tenure at UT just as I was leaving there. He's been a
good friend ever since and has performed two of his warm-up concerts
for us in recent years before his international concert dates.
Adam’s level of musicianship in this intimate setting is truly an
experience unavailable to concert goers.

Oh my God, to hear this man play.....you will never again think of
classical guitar the same way.
- GP

have you heard "Dragostea Din Tei" or the Numa Numa Song

"Dragostea Din Tei" by Ozone was an obscure Romanian pop song till
Gary Brolsma of Saddle Brook, N.J. recorded a video of himself lip-
syncing to it.

Mr. Brolsma, a pudgy guy from Saddle Brook, made a video of himself
this fall performing a lip-synced version of "Dragostea Din Tei," a
Romanian pop tune, which roughly translates to "Love From the Linden
Trees." He not only mouthed the words, he bounced along in what he
called the "Numa Numa Dance" - an arm-flailing, eyebrow-cocked
performance executed without ever once leaving the chair.

In December, the Web site
www.newgrounds.com, a clearinghouse for online videos and animation,
placed a link to Mr. Brolsma on its home page and, soon, there was a
river of attention. "Good Morning America" came calling and he
appeared. CNN and VH1 broadcast the clip. Parodists tried their own
Numa Numa dances online. By yesterday, the Brolsma rendition of "Love
From the Linden Trees" had attracted nearly two million hits on the
original Web site alone.

Here's my message for your IFS OPP Producer/friend.

It is duly noted that you only want to have songs on the albums you
produce on which you have yourself listed as a co-writer on all the
tunes. . Someday when you're not so self-serving and you are more
considerate of the artists you are producting, perhaps you'll
pick "songs" ....yes, completed songs, based on the quality (your
artists) are looking for. If they're paying you good money, you
absolutely OWE it to them to find the best songs for their projects,
even if you didn't write them. Believe it or not, life's not all
about YOU.

Some things never change, even in "Christian" circles.

Sincerely,
Robert Jenkins
