Dear IFS Readers,

Hope this email finds you well. Not much is going on with my
songwriting and anything that is pales by comparison to what those in
the southeastern United States are facing, especially New Orleans.
Our prayers go out to those affected by hurricane Katrina.

I think it's amazing how the music community is coming together to
support those in need.

Many artists who sell their CDs on CDBaby at
http://www.cdbaby.com/from/ande
have elected to donate

All Profits to the Red Cross.

http://cdbaby.com/group/redcross/from/ande

Some IFS readers who've elected to be included are:

Faith Riviera http://cdbaby.com/cd/faithr/from/ande

Shy Blakeman http://cdbaby.com/cd/blakeman/from/ande

Templeton Thompson http://cdbaby.com/cd/templetont2/from/ande

Jean Synodinous http://cdbaby.com/cd/jeansynodinos2/from/ande

Teal Thompson http://cdbaby.com/cd/tealthompson/from/ande

I'm sure there's many more,
If you've placed your CD in this program,

Please let me know, send me an EMAIL and

I'll include it in an updated list to launch in the next IFS issue

A few other Notable CD's I noticed were:

Arlo Guthrie
http://cdbaby.com/cd/arloguthrie1/from/ande
http://cdbaby.com/cd/arloguthrie18/from/ande

Marcus Hummon who cowrote "God Bless the Broken Road" for Rascal Flats
http://cdbaby.com/cd/hummon7/from/ande

Harriet Schock writer of "That Ain't No Way to Treat a Lady" and well
known songwriting instructor
http://cdbaby.com/cd/harrietschock2/from/ande

Kimmie Rhodes
http://cdbaby.com/cd/kimmie3/from/ande
Ground-breaking record, duets with Willie, Waylon Jennings, Townes
Van Zandt. Intelligent, thoughtful lyrics with Texas music. Lubbock
singer-songwriter in the tradition of West Texas troubadors.
http://cdbaby.com/cd/kimmie6/from/ande

Dusty Springfield Tribute: Forever Dusty: Homage to an Icon
A tribute to the late Dusty Springfield—
http://cdbaby.com/cd/dusty/from/ande
with never-before-recorded songs by the Indigo Girls, Jill Sobule,
Laura Love Band, Michelle Malone & Karyn Malone Folmar (featuring
John Mayer), The Butchies, David Bowie's bass player Gail Ann Dorsey
& many more.

I think CDBaby's list will grow as more writers opt in.

Here's how CDBaby artists opt in:

If you'd like to donate all profits of your CD sales to the Red Cross
disaster relief fund, to help the hurricane victims, I set up an easy
way for you to do this at CD Baby.

Log in to your account, here:
https://members.cdbaby.com/

After you log in, click [YOUR ITEMS], up top, then [EDIT ALBUM INFO]
next to your CD, then click next to "Giving profits to charity".

It will explain more about how it works, there. (Please read it,
first, before emailing to ask me questions.)

If you choose to do it, it will put your CD into a special section of
cdbaby.com, linked from the front page, of other artists who have
chosen to give their CD profits to the Red Cross.

Tomorrow morning I will email over 1 million CD Baby customers,
telling them about this special promotion, encouraging them to buy
some CDs from this special section.

You may think that a few sales won't help, but with thousands of
musicians banded together to do this, I think it will help a LOT of
people get their lives back together after this disaster.

Thank you.

I received a kind note from IFS reader TEMPLETON THOMPSON
Ande,
Just wanted to thank you for ALL you do for us creative folk...the
info. you provide is incredible and being an artist who wears all
different "hats," I commend you for the time you put into helping
artists, singer/songwriters, etc., kudos!!!!!!!!!!!! as for the
Nashville thing, this is an incredible town, filled with some of the
most talented people I've ever met in my life, so many who,
unfortunately, go unnoticed...it's a great place to learn, to make
friends who'll more than likely become more like family and to hone
your craft...being a very proud to be Texan, Texan, I truly believe
Nashville taught me how to be a songwriter and Texas taught me how to
be an artist...I always think it's best to try before you decide, I
just wish Texas and Tennessee were closer to each other 'cause I sure
do miss my Texas family...
once again Ande, YOU ROCK!!!!!!!!

happy writin,'

Congratulations to Lorna Flowers

Hi Ande
Things are going great thanks. I just signed a staff writing deal in
Nashville and recently had a Blake Shelton hold so things are
progressing well, I'd say, having been here a year after the commute
for the last 10 years J. I play out a lot at different writers nights
and the company I signed to just did a launch party at the Bluebird
which was packed and we had some great guest artists there as well -
Bob Welch (Fleetwood Mac), Benita Hill (3 Garth cuts), Chalee
Tennison (major label artist) and others and it was a fun night all
doing songs either me or my main co-writer (signed as well) had
written alone or with our guest writers.
Hope all's well with you.
Best wishes

Lorna

OLD # 9 WORKSHOP with Eliza Gilkyson January 13-15, 2006

Dear Friends of the Old No.9,

I hope you are well and making music that lifts your soul and
touches hearts. Many of you keep me updated on your musical journey.
I love to hear from you. I continue to be blessed and amazed by the
wonderful songs and fascinating minstrels that have been our guest at
the Old No.9 Workshops. It is what inspires me to keep on offering
our little Road House as a place for you to bring your music.

We are very excited that Eliza Gilkyson,
http://www.elizagilkyson.com
will be conducting our next workshop January 13-15, 2006. Eliza is
an inspired writer and captivating performer who writes from her
heart and sings from the depth of her soul. She will be sharing her
experience and insight at the Old No.9. next January. The campfire
will really feel great!. And of course, the Road House is fully
heated. Who knows, it could be seventy degrees in January. After all
it's Texas! As you know space in the class will be limited, so let
me know soon if you would like to join us.

Also, a special note for those of you who covet a scholarship to
Eliza's Old No.9 workshop, our dear friend and founder, Jenny Wagget,
continues to support the Old No.9 through her current endeavors.
Jenny, who now resides in Eureka Springs, AR, is co-producing the
58th Annual Original Ozark Folk Festival this October. One of the
choices for the first prize winner of their Songwriter Contest is a
scholarship to Eliza's Old No.9 workshop. For more information go to
www.theaud.org and click on Folk Festival. We also hope to offer
additional scholarship opportunities from the Old No.9. We will be
posting more info on our website
www.oldno9.org.

I would appreciate it if you would tell your songwriter friends
about Eliza's workshop and the Old No.9. The best way for us to get
the word out is through you.

Warm regards,

here's a recent email from Taxi.com

Dear Passengers,

I'm getting a little cranky because some TAXI imitators are trying to
take
credit for deals that have happened as a DIRECT result of submissions
the
artists or writers made through TAXI.

The most recent copycat scheme was launched by a minor competitor
regarding TAXI
member Jenna Drey's success. Jenna made a submission to a TAXI
listing, got
forwarded to Emanon Records (distributed by Universal), landed a
deal, and now
her single is #6 on a Billboard chart!

Jenna has fully, openly (and graciously:-) credited TAXI with the
hookup, yet at
least two other sites have tried to muscle in and take credit where
it wasn't
due. Check out the magazine ad we've been running nationally for
several months
which tells the truth:

http://www.taxi.com/abouts/successdeals-jennadrey.html

And here's a link to the interview we did in our newsletter with
Jenna.

http://www.taxi.com/transmitter/0506/headlineB0506.html

My point, other than calling out these other cheeseballs for their
less than
gentleman-like attempts at stealing our thunder is to let you know
about a
REALLY BIG deal that's also happened as a direct result of a TAXI
submission!

Figured I'd head this one off at the pass. ;-) And if you see any
other
companies trying to take credit for THIS deal, please join me in
calling THEM
out as well.

I'm extremely proud to announce that TAXI member Daniel Holter and
his writing
partner, Mike Standal have landed a cut with Columbia Records
recording artist,
Emma Roberts on her upcoming album. Not only did they get the cut,
but their
song, "I Wanna Be" is the FIRST SINGLE going to radio!

And on top of all THAT great news, Columbia expects Emma's CD to do
exceptionally well because of her status as a top "Tween" idol. She
has a huge
fan base numbering in the MILLIONS as a result of her hit TV
show, 'Unfabulous'
on Nickleodeon.

I've spoken to Daniel several times over the last few months, and
he's a great
guy who is truly grateful for the wonderful position he and Mike are
in. We've
had to keep quiet about this because Columbia wisely advised us
to "wait until
the CD is in shrink wrap until you go public."

Well kids, it's now in shrink wrap, and I admit that I want to be a
little
immodest and brag just a bit. ;-) I also wanted to let you to hear it
from the
horse's mouth before any of our "competitors" try to take credit.

Here are a few words from Daniel, and we'll tell you more in a full
story coming
up in TAXI's newsletter.

"What can I say? There's no way this deal would have happened without
TAXI. We
have our songs posted at other sites, too, but you know what?
Nothing -- NOTHING
-- has ever come from those submissions, or contests, or endless
reviews.
Getting our song, 'I Wanna Be' cut by Emma Roberts isn't the first
thing we've
had forwarded through TAXI, but it's certainly the most exciting
opportunity
yet. Thanks to the entire team at TAXI for hooking us up."

Congratulations again guys, we're all proud of you, and we hope you
have a smash
hit!

Talk to you soon,

Michael

P.S. Check out the Durango Songwriters Expo, which is sponsored by
TAXI along
with BMI, ASCAP, SESAC, Roland, and CD Baby. This year's Expo will be
held Oct.
6-8 at The Lodge At Tamarron in the mountains just north of Durango,
Colorado.
The Expo is a combination of listening sessions, workshops, panels,
showcases,
and open mics. With over 40 music industry pros (including, for the
10th time,
yours truly!) and hit songwriters and registration is limited to 200
attendees.
The Expo is truly an intimate and rewarding event. This year's
special guests
include Jeffrey Steele, Hillary Lindsey, Al Anderson, Lori McKenna,
Leslie
Satcher, and special surprise guests. For more info, check out
www.Durangosong.com or call 970-259-9747. This is one of the few
conventions
other than our own Road Rally that I recommend. – ML
