She may bring your tune over the top, but you wrote one hell of a
great tune.

Abraham Lincoln delivered a speech in February 1859, in
Jacksonville, Illinois, on "Discoveries and Inventions," in which
Abe described the six great steps in the history of liberty and the
last of these great steps is the law of copyrights and patents.

EVER HEARD OF KRIS BERGSNES?
He's a Nashville songwriter
He's had over 40 cuts but no top 10 singles yet.
Some folks call him the mayor or music row.
He fascinated me so I asked him a few questions and here are his
responses.
I think in the beginning writing was an emotional release. When I
felt sad I would write my way through it and then if I captured that
emotion, I felt good about it and that was a great thing. The other
power was just the fact that songs played in my head, not the ones
that played on the radio. Funny they're still not the ones that play
on the radio. Well, I have one on there now. Unbroken Ground,
sitting around 40. It's a song that is loved by many but played by
few. Really though, it's not easy to get a single, a song on the
chart at all. Back to writing. I loved music, my daddy played
Harmonica and my Granddad on my mothers side played the fiddle. He
didn't play well but he played for the joy of playing. I have the
same problem with lyrics, I do it for the joy of writing. Sometimes
they work out good. Most people would have given up long ago and did
something with more certainty. The line of cars and trucks heading
back to where they came from is filled with many that are smarter
and more talented than me. I didn't care if I could or couldn't be
the big writer. I just wanted to write.
I moved around a lot in my 20's trying every kind of job that I
could try. Club DJ, Store Clerk, Radio DJ, Bricklayer, Factory
Worker, I've even cut firewood and branded cows. Well, Life is full
turns and crazy as it may seem all of those jobs were pointing me
toward Nashville. I loved Kris Kristofferson, and in 77 my brother-
in-law was in, A Star is Born. He played the DJ and I made my mind
up that I was going to Nashville to be a songwriter. I would stop
what ever I was doing and move to Nashville when I was 29 just like
Kris. Hey we spelled our name the same way. Why not? Well, life
never lets you go on your master plan and I was 31 before I moved to
town but I was still a kid and I'm still a kid today in many ways. I
just had a 50 party and it was a wild one. My friend put a big
suprise on for me. I will never forget that one. So I moved to town
and signed a couple songs and then after a year I got a publishing
deal where I had a home and no draw but I didn't care. I just wanted
a contract to be legit. The thing most people don't understand about
be is, I never came to town for the money, I came to learn how to
write. If you can learn to write you can make money. Well now the
years pass by and I have around 40 cut and not one top 10. I have
friends with one cut and it's number one. It happens all the time in
this town. The luck of the draw is what it is, luck. But you don't
get lucky if your not in the game so put on your songwriting boots
and jump in. That's what I tell myself.
Nashville is a songwriting town. Like no other, great writers are
accessable. Everything it right here and if you wanted to write from
3am to 6am there is a security guard out there with his guitar in a
booth picking away. How could someone who loves to work not want to
live here. It's one of the greatest citys to live in even if you
don't write or like country music. Looking back I would've loved to
have gone to school at Belmont with Dan Huff, Mark Write, Danny
Wells, Mark Bright and go in early but then I would've missed out on
the factory work and the understaning of the working man that I got
in Oklahoma. That feeling of no hope that some songwriters today
really never had. Once again I think there is a plan bigger than
ours.
Wynonna Judd recorded, All of that love from Here". My mother was
sick when I wrote it and Wynonna's mother was sick when she sang it.
Bittersweet on both sides of the coin. There were letters sent to
the writers on that one. People still come up to me and can sing the
whole thing 15 years later. It's been of 3 chairty CD's. I hope it
will be a single someday. I can't imaging anyone doing it any better
than Wy but who knows. I was down, my lowest day, my money was gone
from my first cut and I had quit school with 7 hours to go. I saw a
homeless man and I wondered what the difference between him and me.
I realized that I had someone who loved me and I remember how my
mama quit picking cotton and demanded to go to college and my Uncle
sold a hog for 6 dollars and that paid the tuition and later she got
her masters from Columbia. I saw her in that cotton field and I
could here her say get up--then I realized I didn't need to go home
to feel the strength of her love. First line, I can see a cotton
field.... Great co-writeres, Lynn Langham and Sharon Rose Higgins. I
was lucky in everyway except having my mama being sick.
So What next in my life, more stories and more songs. I just want to
keep doing what I came here to do. Maybe one day I will have a
career song. It's not about what they do with my songs, it's about
what I do with them. They will like what they like, I have to get my
joy from the process. Everything else is extra. My advice to
songwriters planning to move. Don't move halfway across the country
to play at it. If you move here dive in and work hard. You owe it to
your dream to help it fly.

NEWS FROM ALAN O'DAY -
August 23, 2006
Alan updated the lyrics to his Righteous Brothers' hit from the
70's, Rock'N'Roll Heaven (O'Day/Stevenson), at the urging of a long-
time songwriter/publisher friend Artie Wayne. Alan went to
Nashville, & with the help of his friend & co-writer Denny Martin
found an awesome singer (Ronnie Kimball) to do a KILLER vocal on a
new demo of the song.
This story took an exciting new turn, in the form of video
producer/director Sebastian Prooth in the UK. Artie shared the new
demo with him, & he loved it so much he just finished an awesome
MUSIC VIDEO of the song!
So here's the link to watch it:

SINGER SEARCHING FOR SONGS
I'm working on gathering the perfect songs for an upcoming CD that I
plan to promote at my performances, sell on CDBaby, etc. These CD's
will also be given to the sponsoring radio stations at the venues I
perform at.
I am looking for some New Country style music - both uptempo and
ballad. If you have a completed demo with instrumentals that is a
plus.
Info about me at http://lindsay_anne0.tripod.com
Thanks all!

We've got something exciting things to tell you about!
First, check out the brand new, "hot on the internet"
kylewyley.com!!!! We hope you like the new look and would love your
feedback.
Secondly, as many of you know, Kyle has been working with weekly
magazine insert American Profile by performing on their behalf at
newspaper conventions around the country. American Profile is a
national, weekly magazine that celebrates the people, places and
things that make America great. It is carried in nearly 1300
newspapers across the country with a total of eight million

We are pleased to announce the launch of an exciting Kyle
Wyley/American Profile/CMA Awards Promotion!!!! Starting last week,
August 14, a series of six articles written by Kyle about life in
Nashville as an emerging artist will be offered for publication to
all of American Profile's newspaper partners. The fifth article in
the series issues a call-to-action to the paper's readers to write
in to the paper and explain why they should be the one selected by
American Profile to win an all-expense paid trip for two to the CMA
Awards being held at the Gaylord Entertainment Center in Nashville
on November 6.
AND to make the trip even better Kyle will serve as the winner's
host during their stay and escort to the Awards!! He'll take them on
an insider's tour of Nashville and treat them to some wonderful
Music City food and fun.
"The 40th Annual CMA Awards" will be broadcast live on ABC
