I was watching the movie "Undiscovered" and near the end of the
movie in a scene on an airplane, I heard and loved the following
dialog.
Peter Weller: Now unless I'm wrong, you're gonna enjoy a very long
ride in this business, if you get down on the reality that the only
solid business in music isn't performing. It's publishing.
Luke Falcon: What does that mean?
Peter Weller: It means Erna Mansen. It means Patsy Netbruse. lt
means Bart Howard.
Luke Falcon: Who?
Peter Weller: You don't know their names, but you know their music.
You know their words. You been listening to their songs a hundred
times a day, people listening to them from New York to Beijing.
Luke Falcon: I like that.
Peter Weller: I knew you would.
Hemingway had it right.
Fame is a bitch goddess.
Fame is fraud, man.
Fame is nothing. It's foam.
Fame will break your heart, brother.
But creativity, listen up, is passion.
And it's endless.
You look for fame, you'll lose your soul.
You look for creation, you'll find it.

In most categories we are giving out both Album and Song awards. We
don't think we've left any music out of being represented directly
or indirectly by the above genres. If we had enough quality entries
in a sub genre, we included it. If not, we moved material into the
closest category possible. As the world's largest music awards, we
wanted to be sure we were also the most inclusive!
---------------------------------------------------------------------
3. 2006 JPF Music Awards Voting: We'll need YOUR help!
Each year in the final round, we use 3 distinct groups in the
voting. Music Industry Professionals (Producers, Publishers,
Labels, Promoters, Venues, Attorneys, Organizations etc.), Artist
and Writer Peers (that includes everyone reading this) and Music
Fans. During the last awards process, we used over 4000 judges to
determine the final winners. We have a very short window for
judging this year so it will be crucial to hear from you ASAP
possible to get you involved.
All JPF members and any music fans you know are invited to
participate. Voting on the song categories will take place from
September 10th-October 15th. We will have 2 ways to vote:
1. Online via the jpfolks.com website. This is a first for us and
we'll be setting up the site with the help of our friends at
Hostbaby.com so that you can vote directly off your computer on as
many genres/categories as you like (as long as you meet the criteria
which will be posted). This isn't about driving traffic to a
website to vote AT ALL. Each judge must be pre-cleared and will
have to provide complete contact information. We do NOT want random
traffic. We want pre-qualified Industry (must meet posted
criteria), Artist/Writer (must be a JPF member on the membership
list prior to the nominations being announced) and Fan (must include
real name and contact information as well as referral from current
JPF member who is not nominated) votes. Each group's votes
collectively count equally. Because we want to avoid voter fraud,
we will assign categories for eligible voters from those categories
judges are interested in/qualified for. (See rules which will be
posted on the website September 10th).
2. Via Voting CD's we'll mail to judges as in previous years. For
these judges, we will need volunteers to email us with their
contact info and which genres they are interested in judging.
We will post complete details and rules for these judges on
September 10th as well. Please wait until then to volunteer so we
can keep track of everything properly.
Please watch for the special Voting Email we'll send out to all
members on September 10th.
