Dear IFS readers,
I hope this email finds you well.
I had an outstanding time at the Texas Chapter: Grammy honors event.
My table was next to the ZZ Top guys.
I'm happy to say that Blue Holiday that I cowrote with John Gilliam
is a finalist in 2 categories in the Texas SongWriter Cruise song
contest
http://www.txsongwriterscruise.com
Last Friday I went to see Aerosmith in San Antonio
Last Saturday I saw Allen Shamblin, Kimmie Rhodes, and Gabe Rhodes
perform at the ASG Symposium. While there I visited with Steve
Callif, Stephen Doster, Brent Allen, Steve Johnston, Terri Fann,
Ashley Wymer, Nanci Jay, and many more.
Condolences to Allison Thrash on her father's passing.
I also received this note from Isabel Sommerfeld on Myspace
Isabel Sommerfeld's Comment:
"Hey Ande! Hope everything is fine with you! I just want to say that
I recorded Blue Holiday a few days ago.... I can send you it, when
the mix is done, if you wish to hear.. :-)
Ciao, Isabel"

Spin N' Pitch: Congratulates...
Speaking of pitching, I'd like to send a round of applause out to
the following members whose songs this week caught the interest of
Guest #224 (major music placement company seeking songs for ESPN
Soccer). While the guest did not think these songs would work for
the upcoming soccer games she has to fill, she did think they could
work for some of their other recurring projects her company is
involved with, so she's holding on to them for further
consideration. Hats off to the following members:
Casey Horowitz - "Physical World"
Jimi Whitelaw - "No Regrets"
Ande Rasmussen - "Ain't Gonna Stop"
In addition, we were very pleased that she seemed impressed with the
quality of the material submitted as well as the ease of our
listening page and contact process. This means that she will
continue to stay in touch with SongU.com for their upcoming project
needs. We're really happy about that since they supply music for
major events such as the Olympics, as well as several TV and sports
shows

I read this in someone's myspace profile:
Who I'd like to meet:
ANYONE positive or at least trying to put something positive into
the world.
Someone who stops and listens instead of just walking by.
The person that sits alone in the corner.(their story offers
inspiration)
Anyone who paves a path for like minded people to follow.
Someone that must create in order to live.
Everyone who overcomes the life they were born into.

American Idol News Blog
Chris Daughtry Talks Exclusively About His Debut Album!
Chris found the work particularly rewarding, having written three
songs by himself. He co-wrote all but one song. Reluctant to take
all the credit, however, Chris makes sure to mention all the blood,
sweat and tears that went into the CD on the part of his band. Not
only did they want to write and perform catchy tunes, but they were
also looking for songs that had a good radio hook, and he definitely
feels like they ve succeeded with this album."

Exchange? You Should!
Do you understand how royalties for digital music transmissions are
collected and distributed? If you're a musician, you need to know
about SoundExchange.
SoundExchange®, Inc. is a nonprofit performance rights organization
embodying hundreds of recording companies and thousands of artists
united in receiving fair compensation for the licensing of their
music in the new and ever-expanding digital world.
SoundExchange licenses, collects and distributes public performance
revenues for sound recording copyright owners (SRCOs) and artists
for noninteractive digital transmissions on cable, satellite and
webcast services.
The Digital Performance in Sound Recordings Act of 1995 and the
Digital Millennium Copyright Act of 1998 grants a performance right
in sound recordings. As a result, copyright law now requires that
users of music pay the copyright owner of the sound recording for
the public performance of that music via certain digital
transmissions. The U.S. Copyright Office has designated
SoundExchange as the administrative entity for subscription
services' statutory license fees.
If you believe you might be owed digital royalties, you can search
SoundExchange's PLAY list to find out if they are holding any money
for you. To collect royalties on sound recordings transmitted
between February 1, 1996 and March 31, 2000 and first distributed by
SoundExchange in November of 2001, you must register with
SoundExchange by December 15, 2006. For complete information or to
register with Sound Exchange, please visit www.soundexchange.com.

this was in a taxi newsletter:
"How good do my demos have to be?"
"If you're talking about the quality of your songwriting, the answer
is 'good enough to knock somebody else out of the number one spot,'"
muses TAXI CEO, Michael Laskow. "If you're wondering about how much
equipment you need in your home studio, then take a look at what
Elliot Park used to land his publishing deal!"
(Excerpted from a previous article about Park, written shortly after
he signed his publishing deal.)
"I use a Technics Digital Piano hooked up to a Boss 4-track Digital
Recorder. I usually do my own vocals, including harmony. When I need
a female vocalist I have a couple of very talented friends who help
me out."
"I don't really have an acoustically controlled environment. I mean,
I've seriously had to redo vocal takes because my dogs started
barking at a skunk outside. But a good mic and a little reverb added
(on my 4-track) makes a good demo. I never worry about padded walls
and all that â€" a room with a carpet works fine for me. The main
thing is the song."

Singer Searching for Songs
Active Audio & Entertainment of San Diego is looking for great songs
for a talented 15 year old female artist with a powerful voice, and
the ability to sing multiple genres from pop to classical. Since
she is in the development process, we're looking for songs to assist
her in defining her style. To narrow it down, we're looking for
Alicia Keys pop/soul, Celine Dion pop and amazing big, edgy ballads
a la Christina Aguileras Hurt. Once we've found the right songs
they will be produced and recorded by Active Audio & Entertainment
and subsequently shopped to various outlets; labels, management,
talent agencies, etc. If the song is compelling enough, a
publishing deal may be offered. Send MP3s and lyric sheets to

Nirvana music to feature on TV show
CSI to go grunge
Nirvana's songs are set to be featured in episodes of US crime show
CSI : Miami.
The CSI franchise, which is known for its use of The Who songs, will
feature four of the band's tracks.
The soundtrack licensing deal came about when Kurt Cobain's widow
Courtney Love sold a 25% stake in Nirvana's song catalogue to
Primary Wave Music Publishing.
Love's manager Peter Asher said : "We believe if we say yes to the
right things, we can do both - make money and do the right thing for
the catalogue."
The episode of 'CSI : Miami', that is due to air in November, will
feature several Nirvana with 'Come As You Are' set to feature most
prominently.
According to Forbes, the only condition that Primary Wave set was
that the 'CSI: Miami' episode "Not feature any suicide or drug-
addiction themes."
Instead, the episode that will air, is about evil military
recruiters.
Speaking about the future use of Nirvana songs Primary Wave chief
executive Lawrence Mestel said : "You will never see Kurt Cobain's
music in a fast food hamburger advertisement - that won't ever
happen.
"We're looking at things that relate to cutting-edge technologies,
products that are green and eco-friendly, products that Kurt would
have liked to have his music represented by."
Previously 'All Apologies' had been used in an episode of 'Six Feet
Under' and 'Something In The Way' was used in the 2005
film 'Jarhead'.
