Without knowing anything specific about the PEK, it's always a good idea to turn down (mute) the power amp when plugging/unplugging cables for any equipment. ...

They are the same thing except for Polyphony. The PEK is 4 voices. The Evolver is 1 voice. The Evolver gave rise to the PEK, so thank the might Evolver gods...
