I had tivoed this so I just watched it last night. It was a discussion on whether it was considered cheating to fantasize about another man while having sex with your husband. Elisabeth and Sherri said it was cheating. Whoopi said that if you need a little extra oomph (my word, not hers) she sees no problem with thinking about Bobby Darin or Robert DeNiro.

I love Whoopi.

Did anyone see The View today (Thursday 12th)? The women were discussing who they fantasise about when they're having sex. Whoopi Goldberg mentioned Bobby Darin. I know many of the girls out there would consider this eminently sensible and in very good taste!

Not being in the US I was alerted to this after someone posted a comment on one of my Youtube vids. I managed to watch a clip here http://theview. abc.go.com/

Jamie thank you so much for this great review. You almost make me feel like I was there. Was this an invited audience or were tickets generally available? Absolute once-in-a-lifetime stuff, you lucky, lucky girl.

All I can say is Whew!!!  It began with Jerry Lee Lewis playing Whole Lotta Shakin and soared until it ended some 6 hours later with Springsteen, John Fogerty, Darlene Love, Sam of Sam and Dave, Jeff Beck and more that I can't remember at the moment singing Higher and Higher.  CSNY was only CSN .. rumor has it that Young wasn't invited but I don't know the back story.  They were great tho, brought Woodstock to life, played with Bonnie Raitt.  Crosby and Nash also played a killer Here Comes The Sun with Paul Simon.
Paul and Artie sang Bridge Over Troubled Water in their set and stopped me in my tracks ... but also made me realize that BD's version really is a great one which more than does justice to this one.

Sadly, Stevie Wonder was plagued with sound problems.  All mics went dead but he picked up a hand mic and led the crowd in a Blowin In The Wind until they got the sound back up, which was never perfect.  Except for this set, the sound was fantastic ..... loud but balanced and clear.  If you stayed seated, which was verrry hard to do, you could feel the bass in your butt from the seat.  He and BB King pulled out a wonderful The Thrill Is Gone, which was indeed a thrill.  Sting was in there somewhere too but I can't remember on what songs.

And then there was The Boss.  One of the big highlights for me was when he brought out Sam Moore (of Sam and Dave, the original Blues Brothers) who sang Soul Man and a couple others.  He might be 80 or so, but a soul man he is.  All of the acts paid tribute to those who came before, but Springsteen but very reverential and warm.  Alas, no mention during the night of BD, or even Ahmet, but it was a pretty broad appreciation.  John Fogerty, Darlene Love and Billy Joel (New Jersey meets Long Island) all played with Bruce and the E Street Band.  Being a guitarist yourself, you would have loved Jeff Beck and Tom Morello dueling guitars.

All in all, it was an epic concert and I'm so grateful I was there.  There will be an HBO special of both nights Nov 3rd I think.  The R&R Foundation has also put out a DVD of highlights of previous concerts.  I've heard a lot of music in the last few weeks and am reminded again that there really is hardly anything that compares to live music.  It's not quite the same, but even though I appreciate the smoothness and superior sound of studio recordings, even with Darin, I will usually choose a live track over a studio one.  Wow ... thsi was almost as long as the freaking concert!

mustn't forget THE BOSS
Just can't stop myself from saying that I just became a fan Thursday night.  Went to the six plus hour concert to celebrate the 25th Anniv of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame which was a spectacular show, headlined by him.  I was exhausted but exhilarated by the time he came on and he not only did lift the place higher and higher, he showed great reverence for those who came before...... ....J

Forgot to add DOLLY PARTON to the list. I love her even tho I'm not crazy about her voice.
Patsy Cline coulda been but did not live long enough.

Also love NEIL DIAMOND (guilty pleasure)

And mustn't forget THE BOSS if only because he does the longest live performances ever and completely loses himself in the moment and the music.

I'm sure more will come to mind, will keep all of you apprised.

Thanks to Reina and others for the kind words.

I am so happy to have a lively BD conversation going.

Reina said something that really resonated with me -- not coming back for repeated listenings with Buble.  I have that same experience.  I buy everything, enjoy the CDs, listen a few times, and then it goes on the pile.  Whereas there isn't a Darin album where I don't know what song is coming next, from listening to it so many times.

Does anybody remember the experience of listening on viynl and hearing this sort of pre-echo of the coming Darin track?  Exclusively on Atco, where I think the recordings and pressings were more cheaply done than big boys like Capitol.

Max

P.S.  Greatest (20th Century) entertainers list?

Jolson
Crosby
Sinatra
Garland
Darin
Sammy Davis

runner-up: Dean Martin

I am talking showmanship, Great American Song book, live performing skills, etc.  I would put Elvis and the Beatles on that separate list....
