Since we're going to Nevada for Thanksgiving day, we had our special day with
our youngest son (David) yesterday. Brought him home from the group home where
he now lives and did all the traditional stuff to make his day a good one. He
mostly loves the pie, of course !
They guys all know that when I cook and spend extended time in the kitchen,
Bobby is ALWAYS there with me. Yesterday it was mostly the DI Live CD---one of
my favorites !

Wes, Joe and I will be joining some of our Darin buddies for Thanksgiving this
year ! Heading up to Henderson, NV. to join Toni and Bill Mullinix for the
weekend. Hopefully, Sarah C. and some of her family will be in the mix as well.
More than likely the guys will be doing the football gig while Toni and I do
some Darin catching up.
Life goes better with Bobby and some great Darin friends !
Much to be thankful for in Bobby World, especially all of you who keep me
laughing, loving and looking forward to each new discovery !
Safe and happy turkey day one and all !

On the "Tribute to Johnny Mercer" CD tie in to Clint Eastwood's production, Bobby's duet with Johnny, "Two of a Kind"  is included. It's strange that it would be on there, and nothing of their collaboration in the documentary. It seems it's Bobby's lot in life and death often to be slighted. At least, he did make the CD.

As a thank you to Johnny Mercer, here is one of his best.  I just love the way Bobby pronounced the word - dream.  This song is one that Johnny Mercer wrote both melody and lyrics to.

Dream

Dream
When you're feeling blue
Dream
That's the thing to do

Just watch the smoke rings rise in the air
You'll find your share of memories there

So dream
When the day is through
Dream
And they might come true

Things never are as bad as they seem
So dream, dream, dream.

A few of you have written to say how much you enjoy the song lyrics.  This one is a Johnny Mercer lyric.

I Remember You

I remember you
You're the one who made my dreams come true
A few kisses ago

I remember you
You're the one who said I love you, too
Yes, I do didn't you know?

I remember too a distant bell and stars that fell
Like rain out of the blue

When my life is through
And the angels ask me to recall
The thrill of it all
Then I will tell them
I remember you.

Recorded by almost everybody except Bobby.  More years would have given us more songs.

I remember you
You're the one who said I love you, too
Yes, I do didn't you know?

I remember you.

I'm having 15 people at my house: all siblings, some of the kids, and our
parents. Carl is cooking the turkey outside on the grill, as he does every year.
I've given out food assignments to my guests, and I will make some things here.
Bobby, of course will be in the background.
How about all of you?

As a thank you to Johnny Mercer, here is one of his best.  I just love the way Bobby pronounced the word - dream.  This song is one that Johnny Mercer wrote both melody and lyrics to.

Dream

Dream
When you're feeling blue
Dream
That's the thing to do

Just watch the smoke rings rise in the air
You'll find your share of memories there

So dream
When the day is through
Dream
And they might come true

Things never are as bad as they seem
So dream, dream, dream.

I Remember You

I remember you
You're the one who made my dreams come true
A few kisses ago

I remember you
You're the one who said I love you, too
Yes, I do didn't you know?

I remember too a distant bell and stars that fell
Like rain out of the blue

When my life is through
And the angels ask me to recall
The thrill of it all
Then I will tell them
I remember you.

Recorded by almost everybody except Bobby.  More years would have given us more songs.

What's your most cherished Darin possession? - anyone?  Mine might surprise you.  It's the very first Darin cd that I ever bought (Swinging The Standards).  I swooned after each and every track.  It opened the Darin floodgates for me and I will never, ever forget how struck I was by this enormous, giant talent that I heard for the first time in 2003.  Where had i been?  What lifetime had I been living in?
Happy that's me - ever since.

Oh, ok, I see. Yes I have noticed some interesting pronuniciation of words sometimes.
Hadn't thought I had heard him doing the song, Dream. Thanks for clarification.

Connie, you're right.  Bobby never recorded this song.  I just like the way he pronounces the word dream in other songs such as in his own Dream Lover, and Don't Dream Of Anybody But Me, and I Have Dreamed as examples.

As a thank you to Johnny Mercer, here is one of his best.  I just love the way Bobby pronounced the word - dream.  This song is one that Johnny Mercer wrote both melody and lyrics to.

Dream

Dream
When you're feeling blue
Dream
That's the thing to do

Just watch the smoke rings rise in the air
You'll find your share of memories there

So dream
When the day is through
Dream
And they might come true

Things never are as bad as they seem
So dream, dream, dream.

Me, too.  There was something on TCM and I think something on TNT which I think was the hourandahalf program.  Not sure.  There's a gorgeous coffee table book out I noticed for purchase in the book stores.  Huge and beautiful and pricey.

You bet.  Just thought it might be a good idea to celebrate the man's birthday by celebrating some of his work.  There are so, so many more.  I love the humorous ones as much as anyone, but I do have a soft spot for the poignant love songs.  Bobby did every Mercer song that he sang true justice.  I think that Mercer liked Bobby's interpretations as well.  Somewhere in my collection I have an interview with Johnny Mercer I think in England where he talks about Bobby's passing.  It is then that Mercer says that Bobby is one of his favorites.

This song reminds me of the scene from You've Got Mail....when she's returning to her apartment after never meeting her mystery date.    I think it was the Roy Orbison version....   Lovely lyrics.   Thanks for sharing Reina.
