Surfside Chorus Annual Members Picnic [SCAMP]   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #480 of 864 |
SCAMP is just 6 days away! It takes place at City Island Park at Pavilion A
in Daytona Beach on Magnolia Avenue off of Beach Street from 1000-1900 on
May 26th, 2002. We are providing: charcoal; ice; hamburgers; hotdogs; buns;
condiments; paper goods; beer; and soda in unlimited supply. You are
providing side dishes and/or desserts and plenty of Barbershopping. There
is a playground at Pavilion A for the kids. There is plenty of parking,
normally, but this is Memorial Day weekend so you might want to get there
early. Song of the Coast has an early church gig so most of them won't be
arriving until after 1300.

Sign-up sheets for attendance have been in place at Surfside and Song of
the Coast Choruses for a couple weeks. I hope you've indicated you're coming!

We have 5 Guest Judges for the Jack O'Keefe Memorial Quartet Contest coming
from Song of the Coast. I trust we will have some quartets for them to
hear. That sign-up sheet is also available at Surfside Chorus meetings and
will be available at the picnic until 1500 when the qualifications will
close. Any 4 people who want to take a shot at the trophy are welcome to
perform 2 songs of their choice for the judges. Competition quartets must
not include more than 2 members of any registered or recognized quartet.
The JOK Memorial Quartet Contest will start promptly at 1530 and continue
until the last quartet is heard. Judging will be done in three categories:
Music; Presentation; and Showmanship. Awards will be presented when the
Guest Judges have tabulated their scores. Decision of the Judges is final.

The Inaugural SCAMP Fishing Tournament will begin at 1000 and close at 1500
in two divisions: Juniors [age 2-15] and Seniors [age 16-102]. Sign-up
sheets for that contest are also at both Chorus venues. Bait will be
provided. Bring your own tackle. Catch and release preferred. Awards will
be announced at 1515. Decision of the Judges is final.

Cooking will begin at Noon. Many thanks, to the volunteer cooks who have
already signed up for the event. We will be cooking hamburgers and hot dogs
and you are welcome to cook your own stuff if you wish. Please bring a side
dish or dessert of your choice to round out the experience. The cost is
$5.00 for non-Surfside Chorus members. Surfside Spouses/S.O.s/Minor
children are considered members for this event. Bring as many Guests as you
wish. Just be sure to list them on the sign-up sheet and pay $5.00 to
Surfside Chorus. Song of the Coast Guest Judges and their
Spouses/Significant Others will be our guests. The Guest Judges list will
be posted at the picnic to avoid early influence peddling. [just kidding]

If you have not yet signed up for the Picnic, the Quartet Contest, or the
Fishing Tourney, please do so at your next Chapter meeting or you may reply
to this email with the number in your party for the Picnic, the name of
your Quartet and its members by voice part for the Quartet Contest, and/or
the name[s] and Division of entries in the Fishing Tournament. I will then
add those names to the master list.

I need this information by Thursday to effectively manage the logistics.

Next year's SCAMP will be earlier. Mark your calendars for the first
Saturday in April 2003! Perhaps next year we can do a combined Daytona
Barbershop picnic with Surfside and Song of the Coast? We have reserved
both Pavilions for next year. Maybe Daytona Area Members Picnic [DAMP]? Or
Singers Together Annual Members Picnic [STAMP]? Or Chord Ringers Annual
Members Picnic [CRAMP]? Or Central Halifax Area Members Picnic [CHAMP]?
Well, you get the idea. [grin]

If you know anyone in the Choruses who has no email [what a concept!] and
Marie Aguettant whose email never works, please pass them a copy of this
message.

Thanks.

See YOU on Sunday!

KTWWS!
