-Road-tripped up to Milwaukee to see the friggin' Cubs get absolutely
shut down by Brewers pitcher Ben Sheets on Monday. On the way out of
the park, the PA was blaring Twisted Sister's "We're Not Gonna Take
It," and my wife ended up humming it all the way home. Kinda funny,
and kinda cool to hear TS at that volume. :)
-Now in my current playlist: Lacuna Coil - COMALIES, Jorn - OUT TO
EVERY NATION, Ayreon - THE HUMAN EQUATION (the limited edition with
the DVD has *awesome* packaging!!!), and George Lynch - FURIOUS
GEORGE. - Tim

-Kittie Announces First Tour In Support Of "Until The End"
LONDON, Ontario -- Kittie will begin to tour in support of its
upcoming release, "Until the End," in early July with support acts
Candiria, 36 Crazyfists, and Twelve Tribes.
"The anticipation is high," said drummer Mercedes Lander. "We haven't
toured since November so we're definitely excited. The tour lineup is
phenomenal."
"We spent two years on the road before recording the new album and
we're looking forward to getting back into a schedule that we're used
to," said guitarist/vocalist Morgan Lander. "It's been eight months
since we last toured and we want to let the fans hear the new stuff."
Kittie has built a reputation as a hard-working, hard-touring band.
"Live is definitely where we shine," said bassist Jennifer Arroyo.
"It's heavier and far more aggressive. We let everything out in our
live performances."
During its eight-month absence from touring, the band wrote and
recorded "Until the End" at Longview Farm Studios in Massachusetts.
The album was recorded as a three-piece, and after auditioning
numerous guitar players, the band settled on Lisa Marx, a veteran of
Seattle hardcore band To See You Broken. This tour will be Marx's live
debut with Kittie. "We're looking forward to letting our fans in on
our 'secret,'" said Mercedes Lander.
"We've been rehearsing together," Marx said, "but we can't wait to get
out there and rock out in front of our fans."
"Until the End" is scheduled for release on July 27 by Artemis

-Bizarre Facts About Rockdetector
Rockdetector.com - 25,000 Bands; This Is Just The Start
25,000 bands, 58,700 recordings, 410,000 songs and over 9,000
concerts. Never in my wildest dreams did I think Rockdetector would
ever reach such levels. Never in my scariest nightmares did I
contemplate the traffic to be so massive and our hosting bills so
enormous! Over 10,000 of you visit each day, checking out an average
13 pages per visit. Obviously, such a large cross section of humanity
provides for some quite odd statistics.
Band no. 1.
Not Led Zeppelin, or Black Sabbath, or Judas Priest. It was a humble
little NWoBHM Thrash band from Mansfield in England called Savage.
They are still the only band Metallica used to cover in the early days
that has never been officially acknowledged.
Only 1 band has ever asked to be removed from the website.
DIVA DESTRUCTION. The singer objected so strongly to Rockdetector
daring to mention ex-members in the band biography she demanded we
withdraw the band altogether. We refused, naturally. 'Diva' indeed.
Most common complaint.
Requests to 'delete' ex-band members from biographies. NO!
Only 1 fictitious band has entered the top ten user charts.
Steel Dragon. The band put together for the movie 'Rock Star'. This
was because one person (ISP logged) doggedly viewed the band
repeatedly over 2,700 times in one week!
Artist with most internal links from other artists.
The big daddy: Ozzy Osbourne.
Black is the color.
260 band titles starting with 'BLACK', 222 bands starting with 'DARK'.
Disturbingly, 16 bands include the word 'ANAL' in their title, then
there is 'SATAN'S ALMIGHTY PENIS', 'GOATPENIS' and 'PENIS FLYTRAP'.
An unexpected use of Rockdetector is bands searching for available
names. Bands who really ought to have put more thought into their
name.
LEGION (13), VALHALLA (11), REQUIEM (11), RENEGADE (8), LEGEND (7),
CORPSE VOMIT (2)
When searching for W.A.S.P..
Don't click on the Slovakian W.A.S.P. by mistake.
When searching for SLIPKNOT.
Don't click on the Worcester, MA, Classic Rock band by mistake.
Band we receive the most hate mail for.
CRADLE OF FILTH
No. 1 most viewed Black Metal band.
CRADLE OF FILTH
Odd search phrases people have used when looking for bands.
Big Breasts, Britney Spears, Elephantitis, band with Chinese guitar
player, Frank Sinatra, Gay metal, McDonalds pig fat, How did Elvis
die?, Vince Neil naked.
Most viewed bands over past 2 years.
1) JUDAS PRIEST
2) BLACK SABBATH

4) THE DARKNESS
5) EVANESCENCE
6) METALLICA

-Official Organizer Statement Concerning The Abrupt End Of The
Testament Show At Bang Your Head!!! 2004
Many visitors were annoyed as the show of Bay Area-Thrashers Testament
found a sudden end on the Saturday of this year's Bang Your Head!!!
and the amps were turned off while the band was still playing.
Unfortunately, certain unpleasant circumstances left no other choice
for us.
The background information: The band had overrun their stage schedule
by far. Before Testament started their changeover and their
soundcheck, there had been a delay on stage of abour 10 minutes, that
had been caused by other bands. We asked the responsible tour manager
and the band's sound technician to do the soundcheck as quickly as
possible in order to try to make up at least some of the lost time.
Unfortunately, our call was unheard and the soundcheck took an awfully
lot of time. That wasn't all, though: After everything was finally
checked and prepared, the sound technician hit the road to the PA
tower. On arrvial, he noticed he had forgotten something and went all
the way back to the stage - through the audience! When he arrived at
the tower a second time, Testament had used twice as much time for the
changeover than scheduled (40 instead of 20 minutes). Therefore, the
overall dealy had summarized to more than 30 minutes. Unfortunately,
we do have strict curfew set up by the city of Balingen saying that
the headliner's show has to end at 11 PM. Iced Earth agreed to shorten
their set by two songs and we told Testament's tour manager that his
band has to shorten its set as well. He was supposed to infotm the
band about that - but he actually just wouldn't do. Though he shared
the stage with the guys and we asked him several times to deliver the
important information to the band, he kept on ignoring our request
didn't pass anything forward to Chuck Billy and the guys, resulting
the band to play on and on. Finally, we had no other choice left than
to put the most unpleasant and unpopular end to the show and pull the
plug. We feel very sorry for the fans of Testament and the band
itself. Everything could have gone less unpleasant if there had been
just a bit more professional and cooperative attitude on the part of
the band's tour manager and sound technician.

1995. He later took his psychedelic influences and penchants for
spiritual lyrics to the all-star Transatlantic. He's now a solo

Brings national alternative sport competition and music tour to east
coast. Local "everyday athletes" get a chance to compete for cash
prizes alongside pros.
NEW YORK CITY -- The best athletes in core sports and the best new
music artists in the nation will combine for a lifestyle event like no
other as the T-Mobile Core Tour (TM) presented by Nokia makes its only
east coast stop July 17-18, 2004 at South Street Seaport (19 Fulton
Street). This free summer sports and music festival will feature live
performances by more than 18 bands, and action-packed alternative
sports competitions offering more than $200,000 in total athlete cash
and prize awards. Event hours are: Friday - 2:00- 6:00 p.m., Saturday
9:00 a.m.- 6:00 p.m.; Sunday- 9:00 a.m.- 6:00 p.m.
Designed to give everyday athletes the chance to compete alongside
seasoned pros, this event features gravity-defying core sport
competitions staged in a 90,000 square foot area of ramps and jumps.
National and international competitions will bring out some of the
world's best athletes to battle in the core sports of BMX dirt jump,
inline skate, skateboard, mountainboard and Go-Ped.
Competitions will be staged on elements as extreme as the athletes
themselves -- including the huge mountainboard launch ramp, where
athletes will skyrocket off at distances of over 50 feet. BMX
competitors will fly nearly three stories into two 25 foot-wide, 12
foot-high dirt chasms made of 80 tons of packed dirt, trucked in for
the event. Action will also be hot on the tour's 60 foot-wide,13
foot-high vert ramp.
Nationally ranked pros slated to compete at various tour stops
include: four-time World Mountainboard Champion Jason Lee; current
World Mountainboard Champ Leon Robins; U.S. Inline Champion Marc
Engelhart; World Inline Champion Eito Yasotoko; hot skateboard pro
Danny Mayer; BMX superstar T.J. Lavin; and the annual rivalry between
King of Dirt BMX Champions Ryan Nyquist and Cory Nastazio.
Featured BMX competitions include:
• Panasonic ShockWave King of Dirt (TM) Pro Competition: Premier
national BMX dirt jump competition for amateurs and pros, featuring
best aerial flips, tricks, and specialized moves, scored on
consistency and difficulty of tricks performed. Top two finishers
qualify to compete at this year's nationally televised Gravity Games.
• Got Milk? (TM) King of Dirt Amateur competition: BMX dirt jump
competition for amateurs, featuring best aerial flips, tricks, and
specialized moves, scored on consistency and difficulty of tricks
performed. Top 2 amateurs from Saturday's competition move up to
compete against the pros on Sunday!
• Butterfinger (TM) Big Air Challenge: A winner-take-all competition
taking the action to new heights -- with BMX riders rolling off the
ramp to soar over as high as they can -- last year's champ cleared 23
feet!
Featured Inline Skate competitions include:
• OTBTM "Superstars of Vert": Action will be center stage on the OTB
half-pipe, with inline skaters and skateboarders battling in separate
competitions. Sanctioned by the National Inline Skate Series, athletes
will be scored on consistency and difficulty of tricks performed, as
well as in a separate "Best Trick" competition.
Featured Mountainboard competitions include:
• Arrowhead (TM) Dirt Bash competition: High flying competition for
the best aerial maneuvers by world-class pro mountainboarders off a
huge, 27-foot high roll-in ramp into a dirt landing area.
Featured Go-Ped competitions include:
• Go-Ped Scootercross (TM): The world's hottest new core sport! The
top 10 Go-Ped freestylers in the nation will unleash a barrage of
aerial tricks on their two-stroke motorized Go-Peds -- battling it out
for both "Sick Trick" and "Big Air" awards.
Adding to the excitement, some of the best new local and national
alternative bands will pump up the volume at the Panasonic e-Wear
Music Stage with free shows Saturday and Sunday between noon and 4
p.m. K-ROCK Radio will be on hand with free giveaways. Fans can also

-Eidolon Update: New Vocalist Announced
This update is to inform that we have decided to part ways with our
singer, Pat Mulock for reasons of both a musical and personal nature.
I express no interest in giving any childish, gory details or go into
any specific's as to why we have decided to take this path - it simply
wasn't working for us anymore on a musical level mostly, so in all
fairness to the band, a change is nessesary at this point in time - we
do wish Pat luck on his future musical endeavors.
So once again we are left with the arduous position of trying to find
a new "family" member, as it were - A task (and I think I speak for
Glen and Adrian here as well) that we are not fond of. At this
juncture of the game finding the "right guy for the job" 1 who
expresses the same musical goals as well as sharing the same outlook
on this retarded business and NOT be dissillutional about it is not an
easy thing - we certainly don't do this for money - if we did, we
certainly are playing the wrong type of music!!!!!!!!!!! We do this
for completely selfish reasons, which to me, is the ONLY reason to
play music - to express ouselves in a genuine fashion and not bow to
any pathetic trends - in the end, we do this for ourselves 1st and
hope to expand our fan base with each release.
As well, the "right" vocalist has to be great in all facets - melodic,
wide range of vocal style's, great frontman and 1 who can rip your
face off in a live setting - in other words, a complete pro!!!!!!
Unfotunately, this type of vocalist does not grow on trees here in
North America - Europe however, is a different story, so we decided to
try a different approach in finding who we were looking for...
It didn't take too long to figure out who we wanted to fill this
position. Since late December, Glen and myself have been working on a
record called "Dimension Infinite" which also features 3 members of a
band called Pagans Mind who, in my opinion, are a fantastic metal-
progish style band from Norway (great guys as well actually). Their
singer Nils.K.Rue is lending his talents for this record, in which he,
Ronni and Steinar (bass and keyboards respectively) are currently
working on as I write this. After seeing Pagans Mind last fall at
"Prog Power" festival, I was blown away on how great of a live
performer Nils was - something that now has played a part on us
approaching him to become the new singer for EIDOLON. In my opinion,
Nils has all the elements we want in a great singer, so after
contacting him and offering him the "job", I am happy to say that
Nils.K.Rue is now the new vocalist for EIDOLON!!!!!!
We are very excited about the future of the band, and we are very much
looking forword to start recording the next Eidolon record, which will
happen in early fall-2004!!!!!!!!!
Cheers.

-New Danzig Release "Circle Of Snakes"
Evilive Records Exposes The World To The Dark Angel's Latest Work Of
Genius
HOLLYWOOD (July 7, 2004) -- "Circle Of Snakes" encompasses the essence
of the super charged, yet foreboding poetic lyrics known solely to
Danzig. The self-titled single slammed the airwaves with a blazing
force proving that the band has continued to create challenging,
powerful and ruthless albums without sucking into the corporate
machine. Maintaining a black flow of musical mayhem and evil guitar
rock, "1000 Devils Reign" and "When We Were Dead," are two additional
cuts to be reckoned with.
After gaining notoriety through the legendary punk charges of his pre-
Danzig days with The Misfits and Samhain, Danzig was birthed into a
new era as the next century's man in black. Danzig mercilessly
unleashed a multi-media onslaught that caused disciples to once again
study the master.
The band consists of Glenn Danzig (vocals/keyboards), Tommy Victor
(guitars), Jerry Montano (bass) and Bevan Davies (drums). Infusing the
listeners to the very black soul of hard rock with quietly sinister,
yet darkly seductive atmospheric music, "Circle Of Snakes" is this
year's dark masterpiece. Expect "Circle Of Snakes" to violate the
marketplace on August 31st, 2004.

*** FROM THE MEGA-VAULT ***
*
by Keith Abt (keithabt@...)
-This Week: "CATCH UP IF YOU CAN"
Wow! The "Mega-Vault" is open for business again after another longer-
than-I-wanted-it-to-be hiatus! After my last extended layoff, I'd
promised Emperor Tim that I would try my best to stick to a more or
less once-a-month schedule, but with my lack of time management, it's
now been a good six weeks or so since my last installment, and again
I'm awash in new CDs, news items and other random bits and pieces that
are screaming for me to turn them into a semi-coherent column. It will
be up to you, dear reader, to determine how successful I am in that
endeavor. Onward and upward, then!
-From the "MAN, I Wish I'd Thought Of This First!" Department: when
the Van Halen reunion tour came through the NY/NJ area a few weeks
ago, an ad suddenly appeared in the local entertainment papers that
made me laugh out loud. In honor (or perhaps "dishonor" would be the
correct term) of the tour, some smart cookies are marketing T-shirts
that loudly proclaim, "IT AIN'T VAN HALEN WITHOUT DAVID LEE ROTH!"
According to the ad, the designers feel that there is "only one singer
for Van Halen, and it's not the guy who drinks worm marinade." HA!
These guys are going to make a bundle. I'm jealous. To get one of
these beauts for yourself, e-mail ItAintVH@... for ordering info,
or visit http://www.diamonddavidleeroth.com/ . Perhaps they'll
consider expanding their line of shirts to include one that reads "IT
AIN'T KISS WITHOUT ACE AND PETER" next? Just a thought!
-I'd like to extend a hearty "Get well soon" wish to former Ramones
guitarist Johnny Ramone, who was recently hospitalized in Los Angeles
for an infection related to his ongoing treatment for prostate cancer.
Fight on, Johnny! On a lighter Ramones-related note, a news item
recently crossed my desk that says a new musical based on the music of
the Ramones (!), titled "Gabba Gabba Hey," will be premiering soon in
Perth, Australia, and the producers hope to eventually bring the show
to the US. Described as "'Grease' on speed," "Gabba Gabba Hey"
promises to have "a definite edge and attitude," but also to be "very
sweet and lyrical" with "a touching love story." I'm not so sure this
is a good idea, but the idea of a mosh pit breaking out in the
audience during opening night makes me smile. :-) If you just happen
to be in Australia during the week of August 17-21 and want to catch a
performance at the Monkey Bar (GREAT name!), check out
http://www.bocsticketing.com.au/ for ticket info.
-On to the CD pile! Some of these selections are a little bit past
their "freshness date," but hey, they were new releases when I first
got them... It's just taken me a while to put them in a column. SO GET
OFF MY BACK, DAMN YOU!! :-)
-The reviews I've read of W.A.S.P.'s THE NEON GOD: PART ONE - THE RISE
(Sanctuary) have been pretty mixed thus far; it seems to be either a
love or hate kind of album. I've spun the CD a few dozen times and I'm
still pretty much in the middle. Keep in mind that W.A.S.P. has been
one of my favorite bands for going on twenty years and I'll buy
anything with Blackie Lawless' name on it, but unfortunately the
majority of this self-proclaimed "epic masterpiece" just makes me say
"Yeah? So?" There are a few standout tracks that jump out at me like
the excellent "Sister Sadie" (love the "I'm f**ked for life!"
refrain!), "Asylum #9," and "XTC Riders," but the rest just kinda sits
there for me. Maybe if I hadn't heard THE CRIMSON IDOL (the essence of
which Blackie is obviously trying to channel here) I'd like THE RISE
better, but since IDOL was one of my favorite albums of the last
decade, most of THE RISE makes me feel like I'm sitting through a
rerun. I'll still tune in for part two (which I assume will be THE
FALL?), due later this year, in the hopes that having the complete
story will enhance the listening experience as a whole, but for right
now THE RISE just seems like a futile attempt at recapturing lightning
in a bottle. The kindest thing I can say at this point is at least
Blackie didn't try to revisit K.F.D.!
-On to Evergrey's THE INNER CIRCLE (InsideOut Music America), which
also didn't move me in quite the way I'd hoped it would. (Bracing for
hate mail from Sean over at the "Flames From The Lake" column...) Let
me explain my feelings on this one: last year's RECREATION DAY was the
first Evergrey disc I'd ever heard, and it blew me away so completely
that I honestly think I went into this follow-up with unrealistic
expectations. You know that buzz you get when you hear a really
awesome band for the very first time? Unfortunately, it tends to be a
one-shot deal. No matter how much excellent material said band
produces in the future, you'll never feel that "rush of discovery"
again. That said, THE INNER CIRCLE is still an excellent CD; it's a
lush, moody, often disturbing listening experience, but it still
hasn't monopolized my stereo in the same fashion that RECREATION DAY
did only a year ago. That may be due more to my not giving it the
proper listening time it truly deserves in order to let it "gel" than
to any shortcomings on Evergrey's part, however, so Sean, please put
the baseball bat away! :-)
-Can you get any more metal than Judas Priest's METALOGY box set
(Legacy/Columbia)? With four CDs packed with all the best songs from
Priest's storied career and the classic 1982 SCREAMING FOR VENGEANCE
concert video, now re-mastered and looking better than ever, how can
you possibly go wrong? Even for the diehards who already have all of
the Priest catalog, there are still a few tasty tidbits to behold (I
was particularly tickled by the fascinating live versions of
"Starbreaker" and "Hot Rockin'"), but the nit-picker in me still has
to say that they could've added a few more Ripper Owens tracks (whose
entire tenure with the band is boiled down to a mere four songs) in
order to more accurately represent that era. I can't argue with the
inclusion of "Jugulator" or "Bloodstained," but the god-awful "Feed On
Me" could've easily been replaced with, say, "Burn In Hell,"
"Bloodsuckers," or "Cathedral Spires" and nobody would've missed it.
Other than that minor quibble, I have no real complaints. I have heard
some people wondering why "The Ripper" (the song, not the man!) is
totally absent from this set, but strangely enough I didn't even
notice that oversight until a friend pointed it out!
-Dokken's HELL TO PAY (Sanctuary) won't be out for another week or
two, but I was lucky enough to glom an advance copy, and I was happy
to hear that the band sounds more rockin' and less morose than on LONG
WAY HOME. Don's now on his third guitarist in as many studio albums
(Jon Levin steps into the shoes previously occupied by Reb Beach and
John Norum) and unsurprisingly he sounds just as Lynchian as his
predecessors. (I can just imagine Don Dokken in the studio, beating
Jon with a stick, saying "No, no, NO! You have to sound MORE like
George!") I can do without the sappy balladry of "Care For You" and
"Still I'm Sad" (no, it's not the Yardbirds song made famous by Dio-
era Rainbow, although maybe it should have been!), but the harder
tracks like "Prozac Nation" (my favorite song on the CD), "The Last
Goodbye," and "Haunted" got my toes tappin' (and my fingers air-
drumming on my steering wheel.) Don has said the band labored to
produce a "classic sounding" Dokken album, and though HELL TO PAY may
not be on par with their classics like BACK FOR THE ATTACK, it shows
that the band is still in decent shape.
-I don't dip my toes much into the doom/stoner metal genre (aside from
the mighty Sabbath and Trouble catalogs, and occasional spins of
Cathedral's THE ETHEREAL MIRROR) but I can't deny how much a recently
acquired copy of 2002's NAILED by Place Of Skulls (Southern Lord)
kicked my ass. Imagine if Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull sat in on the
recording of Sabbath's VOL. 4. Cool, lazy, heavy-as-hell and dripping
with hairy '70s style fuzz, this "super group" of doom metal took me
back to my college days when my friends and I would spend Sunday
afternoons in a cloud of smoke while listening to the Sabs' WE SOLD
OUR SOUL FOR ROCK 'N' ROLL at obscene volume levels. Not that I
condone such behavior now that I'm a husband and father, of course.
(COUGH) :-)
-Finally... A few columns ago I gushed about my discovery of the Fuse
Network's "Uranium Classics" program of old-school metal videos, but
now I can say (in the voice of Fez from "That '70s Show") "screw dat!"
because I've found something BETTER... My wife and I recently got
digital cable and VH1 Classic was added to our channel lineup.
Needless to say I've become hooked on their "Metal Mania" program,
which airs in one-hour blocks at odd times throughout the day, and in
that time I've seen FAR too many classic '80s hard rock and metal
videos to list. The reason I mention it is because I tuned in about a
week ago and practically screamed with joy when they aired Crimson
Glory's video for "Lonely," which I had NEVER seen. I can now die a
happy man. :-)
-That'll do it for this long-overdue installment and as usual I will
make my pledge not to stay away so long from now on... We'll see if
that promise holds water in the very near future, of course. Till next
time, keep the CDs spinning and the devil horns a-flyin'.
-THIS WEEK'S PLAYLIST: Danzig - s/t; Misfits - CUTS FROM THE CRYPT;
Iced Earth - BURNT OFFERINGS; Kiss - MUSIC FROM "THE ELDER"; Circle II
Circle - WATCHING IN SILENCE.

-We've been blessed with a lot of great concert lineups lately, and
the new tour featuring Uli Roth with MSG and George Lynch is certainly
no exception. Scheduled to begin in August, we can only hope they play
as many places as possible so everyone will have a chance to see these
living guitar legends...
-Franscesco Fareri has a new instructional DVD out at
http://www/chopsfromhell.com/ .
-According to Blabbermouth, English heavy metal band Marshall Law has
recorded the following demos for a new album, tentatively due later
this year: "Retribution," "Bloodlines," "Axis Of Power," "What Lies
Behind," "Why Do Men Die," "Nothing Lasts Forever," "Faith Divides,"
"Waiting For The Sign," "Pure Evil," "From Past Times Until Now."
Original members Andy Pyke (vocals) and Dave Martin and Andy Southwell
(guitars) are joined on the recordings by session drummers Chris Green
and Lee Morris (Marshall Law, Paradise Lost), with the guitarists
handling bass duties since Roy Davies has left the band. Furthermore,
1993's POWERGAME is being re-mastered for a new release with bonus
tracks. Looking forward to hearing all this!!!
-Thin Lizzy have a DVD coming out that will feature a 1983 performance
with John Sykes. Here is the description from Amazon.com:
"World-class headbangers Thin Lizzy rip it up on stage in this dynamic
concert performance, as the hell-raising party boys tear through their
classic favorites. Filmed at Britain's Regal Theatre three years
before Phil Lynott's death, this performance captures the band at its
peak. Songs: Jailbreak, This Is the One, Cold Sweat, The Sun Goes
Down, Holy War, The Boys Are Back in Town, Rosalie, Baby Please Don't
Go."
