-So there I was on Sunday, frantically trying to finish putting a
first coat of paint in one of my bedrooms, right as trick-or-treating
was about to start in my neighborhood. I went down to the wire. I saw
some kids approaching so I scrambled down the ladder, threw on my
festive Kiss Halloween T-shirt (the one with the Kiss faces carved
into pumpkins) and the first hat I could find, which happened to be a
Judas Priest hat from the JUGULATOR tour. (Yes, I was styling.) I
opened the door and there were four teen-aged boys standing there, and
none was really dressed up. One of the kids, I *think*, was painted up
like Paul Stanley but he just had the makeup and no actual costume. I
held out the bowls (one with fruity stuff, the other with chocolate
stuff) and told the kids to take one piece of candy from each bowl.
Just then the quasi-Paul saw my shirt and said, "Cool, Kiss!" Then a
second later he saw my hat, "Hey, Judas Priest!" So I told him he
could take two pieces of candy from each bowl. His friends didn't get
it. Two of them looked up like, "Huh?" As they shuffled away, one
muttered, "Why did he get so many?" and whacked quasi-Paul in the ass
with a big stick. That cracked me up. :)

Otherwise, Halloween was pretty lame by my house, and I even forgot to
listen to Helloween's "Halloween" and King Diamond's "Halloween." That
sucked. Although, I did get to scare the bejabbers out of my wife by
playing the Van Helsing's Curse album in the car last Friday night as
we drove through a *nasty* rain and hail storm. At one point the rain
was really pouring and the windshield wipers couldn't keep up, and she
turned to me and said, "You know, this music isn't helping."

-Check back here on Friday when I'll be sending out Sean and Neal's
extensive interview with Jon Oliva, conducted at this year's ProgPower
fest in Atlanta.

-Now in my current playlist: PainmuseuM - METAL FOR LIFE (C.M.M.
Entertainment), New Eden - STAGNANT PROGRESSION (P&P), War & Peace -
THE WALLS HAVE EYES (Z), Orion Riders - A NEW DAWN (Lion). - Tim

-Cog Remains The Same In The U.S.

Cog are ripping through the recording of their debut album at
Radiostar Studios in Weed CAL, U.S.A. Drummer Lucius Borich said "The
1920's studio theater here is far from a normal recording environment,

what we're trying to create. Led Zeppelin recorded their album 'The
Song Remains The Same' through the same Neve Desk!, and Sylvia Massy

-Additional Dates - Exodus & Megadeth Tour

A true legend is back! Twelve years after the last studio record,
Exodus, the legitimate founders of Bay Area Thrash Metal, have erupted
with a new album. The five pioneers in metal present Tempo Of The
Damned, released on March 23rd, 2004, a praiseworthy comeback with
crushing riff attacks, merciless drumming and distinctive vocal
outbreaks. Strong and fresh, this release is a real thrash hurricane
that continues just as if the band never left the stage or studio.

**See Exodus live on stage as support for Megadeth**

"A pulverizing crunch-fest" Four stars
-Revolver Magazine

"This is a powerful return to form for one of the scene's true
innovators"
-Outburn Magazine

"This is Exodus' glorious return to form...And wait 'til you get a
load of some of these f#*kin' riffs. Thrash-head revisited, and not
before time. Let the shakeup commence."
-Terrorizer

"This is the work of a band who still hold a respectable spot in the
metal scene and who still have a lot of good days left ahead of them."
-Blabbermouth.net (from featured review on home page)

"Tempo Of The Damned, Exodus' absolutely fantastic comeback album,
...has a tempo that makes you want to bleed, sweat, piss, sh*! and
vomit metal after you have finished your private lesson with these
monstrously heavy, testosterone-filled, blood-stopping and damn
addictive songs on Exodus' best album to date since the band's Bonded
By Blood and Pleasures Of The Flesh."

-Betrayer Newsletter - Shadowed Force EP Tracked

http://www.betrayer.ca/

The recording phase of Betrayer's 'Shadowed Force' EP has been
completed and now the project enters the final phases of production.
In the coming weeks, producer Glenn Fricker will be working on the
editing & final mixes.

Some updates from recent studio sessions:

Following some delays due to a vocal injury, Jeff Klingbeil (guitars &
vocals) has recorded his strongest performance yet, including many
harmonies. Fans of the 'Rusted Icons' album will notice a significant
improvement in Jeff's range, tone and overall quality of his vocals.

All lead guitar work and solos by Jeff and Bill Lozon (guitars) have
been completed. Glenn worked diligently with both Jeff and Bill to
establish some very impressive lead tones.

Other 'Shadowed Force' EP related news:

The 'Shadowed Force' artwork is still being developed and should be
released shortly. Once the artwork for the EP has been completed an
announcement will be made for pre-orders of the EP and 'Shadowed
Force' related merchandise.

The initial response to the pre-registration of 'Rusted Icons' t-
shirts was overwhelming, with our pre-order numbers filled within a
matter of weeks. However, due to the upcoming release of the 'Shadowed
Force' EP, we will be producing t-shirts featuring the 'Shadowed
Force' artwork instead, which has delayed the merchandise until the
artwork is completed. We thank all of our great fans who have shown an
interest in Betrayer t-shirts for their patience with the delays we
have experienced.

Betrayer will also be making an announcement for the official release
date for the 'Shadowed Force' EP that will begin with our first ever
online listening party. The listening party will allow our fans from
all over the globe to hear the new Betrayer material at the same time.

-Ballistic Update

Ballistic mainman Tom Gattis (ex-Deuce, Tension, Wardog) has posted
the following message on the band's official web site:

"Well, I had a mini-stroke about 3 weeks ago (T.I.A.); Turns out its
tied to a hole between the left and right atria of the heart (medical
term 'Patent Foraman Ovale') and it shunts unprocessed blood away from
the lungs and directly to the brain via the Carotid Artery, hence
allowing clots to proceed unimpeded to the brain (it has also been
tied to major migraine headaches). Well, I have had an operation to
close the hole and am doing well so far. I should be ready to start
playing again soon. By the way, this is a fairly recent development
(the relation of a PFO to strokes), and 25% of the general population
is walking around with this defect and doesn't know it (this
absolutely DOES NOT mean 25% will suffer a stroke!!). So if you have
stroke symptoms, this is something you may want to bring up to your
healthcare provider. Thanks for all the best wishes from everyone!"

Ballistic, who recently announced the addition of singer Tony Taylor
(Twisted Tower Dire, Isen Torr, October 31) to the group's ranks, are
working on the material for their second album, tentatively due next
year.

Celebrating the 20 year anniversary of the release of the now classic
self-titled first album, "Metal Church", the band is back with a dose
of new blood and hotter than ever. Spawned from the new wave of
British heavy metal of the late 1970's, the band was formed by Kurdt
Vanderhoof and Kirk Arrington, and now includes the talents of another
veteran of that era, Jay Reynolds formerly of Malice. The new lineup
also includes notable Northwest talents, Ronny Munroe of Rottweiller
on vocals and Steve Unger on bass.

Having had several band member changes over the years, this lineup is
truly the most compelling to date. Delivering the goods with their new
album "Weight Of The World", which has been called by critics their
best in years and a return to their metal roots, Metal Church are now
leveling audiences in America and Europe alike. With a no-nonsense,
supercharged live show and a new album that will kick you in the
teeth, this looks to be the year that Metal Church will garner the
respect and success they've long been due.

..."Lead track 'Leave Them Behind' kicks in and it's 1993's Hangin' In
The Balance all over again, albeit with guitarist Kurdt Vanderhoof
actually in the band rather than just writing the material, and
shredding up a storm to boot. New vocalist Ronny Munroe is anything
but a pretender to the throne, matching if not surpassing the
performances of former Churchmen David Wayne and Mike Howe, pretty
much carrying this album from start to finish..."
- Carl Begai | BraveWords.com

"It has been five long years since the last Metal Church offering, the
rather lacklustre Masterpeace, and a lot of things have changed since
then. Only Kurdt Vanderhoof and Kirk Arrington are left from that last
line up and they have been joined by Jay Reynolds (ex-Malice) on
guitar, bassis Steve Unger And vocalist Ronny Munroe. Vanderhoof has
found yet another great singer to present his songs in Munroe, and
what songs they are! 'Leave Them Behind' is a fantastic, high energy
opening statement of intent, 'Madman's Soul' is a huge, grand epic and
'Cradle To Grave', with its perfect riffing and lead work conjures up
that wonderful stirring in the blood that only the best metal can. The
band seem reinvigorated, with more life, energy and purpose than in
many a year and the songwriting and musicianship are of an
impressivley high standard. It really is a pleasure to hear such a
fine collection of beautifully crafted metal songs." 5/6

Lead singer, Brian Fair, of Shadows Fall was recently diagnosed with

cancelled a show due to poor health and don't plan on it now. The

anything to let them down. Besides, if Curt Schilling can lead the Red
Sox to a World Series victory with a sewn up ankle then I can tough it
out and bring the metal."

special Halloween edition, set to air on MTV2 this Saturday night Oct.
30th at 10PM EST/7PM PST. The show will be composed of interviews and

that surprisingly, considering that bands like In Flames, Candlemass,
The Haunted, Clawfinger, Entombed, Opeth, Hypocrisy, Therion, Pain,
Tiamat, The Crown, Vintersorg, John Norum, Dark Tranquillity, Cans,
Lefay, Pain Of Salvation, Dismember, Talisman, Witchery, Evergrey,
Thyrfing, Nocturnal Rites, Merciless, Wolf, Notre Dame, Naglfar, Tad
Morose, Dimension Zero and Lost Horizon have played.

We can now present the first bands for next year's festival. They are
Face Down, Grave, Loud'N Nasty, The Storyteller and Unleashed. Expect
more to come!

-PainmuseuM "Metal For Life" US Release Date Confirmed

November 16, 2004 has been confirmed as the official U.S. release date
for the long awaited "Metal For Life" album from Metal Mike's
PainmuseuM. "Metal For Life" features Metal Mike Chlasciak - Guitars
(Testament, Halford), Bobby Jarzombek - Drums (Iced Earth, Halford,
Riot), Steve DiGiorgio - Bass (Testament, Sadus, Death, Vintersorg)
and newcomer Tim Clayborne (Hatred) on vocals. The album was mixed by
Roy Z. (Judas Priest, Dickinson, Halford, Helloween) and mastered by
James Murphy (Testament, Death, Disincarnate). Additional guest vocals
were provided by Joe Comeau (Overkill, Annihilator).

This will be the first U.S. release under Metal Mike's own label
imprint C.M.M. Entertainment, LLC. C.M.M.'s exclusive retail chain
agreement with Transworld Entertainment Group places this and future
C.M.M. releases in major US retail chain locations, namely FYE,
Coconuts, Wherehouse, Strawberries, The Wall, Camelot and more. Metal
Music World Marketing, LLC will provide marketing, sales and
promotion. "Metal For Life" will also be available through several
Internet providers including CDBaby.com, GuitarMusic9.com, Metal Mike
Armory Store at www.painmuseum.com, CenturyMedia.com,
TowerRecords.com, and Metal speciality store locations.

The Metal God himself; Rob Halford also gave "Metal For Life" thumbs
up and invited the release to be placed for sale at RobHalford.com.

Distribution to Metal speciality retail in the US, Central and South
America will be handled by Century Media/ CM Distro direct sales.
Album downloads will be found at iTunes, SonyConnect, Napster,
Rhapsody, AOL's MusicNet, and more.

Territories outside of the US/ Central and South America are already
spoken for and full label details will be disclosed soon. We would
also like to confirm that Metal Mike Chlasciak has signed a worldwide
publishing deal with Warner/Chappell Music.

"Metal For Life is an album that I feel is one of the best I have ever
been a part of. It is 100% of what it should and what this band wanted
it to be, and proudly 0% of what the martini drinking bullshit talkers
wanted it to be. This CD is about what the words Heavy Metal mean to
us, the band. The creative and recording process was closed to the
business world, and only opened to the individuals that made this
album. To us Metal is a sign of freedom and individuality. The music
speaks the truth," concludes Metal Mike.

You can preview album cover and tracks "I Am Your Keeper", "Speak The
Name", "Hosanna Hosanna", "Words Kill Everything", "American
Metalhead", "Dogs In A Cage" and "Live And Die" at:

Label News

Your gateway to the best atmospheric and gothic metal...

...After Within Temptation, The Gathering and After Forever Holland
gives birth to a new sensation in the Gothic / Atmospheric Metal
genre!

Nemesea formed in September 2002 in Groningen, Holland. A year later
the band is already touring with After Forever as their steady support
act. Starting from March 2004, the band starts to record Mana ('the
magical power of things, given by the gods').

The end result is simply breathtaking...

Captured in a beautifully melancholic atmosphere, Mana takes the
listener on a musical journey...

Angelic vocals, incredible symphonic arrangements, virtuoso playing
skills. Nemesea makes an overwhelming impression on the whole. Catchy
songwriting, real choirs, strings & and other acoustic instruments,
tear-jerking ballads, tight metal riffs, fat grooves, bombastic
arrangements...just a few characteristics of the band's incredible
sound.

Nemesea sounds diverse, mature and will capture every music fan...

-R.I.P. Terry Knight, 1943-2004, Statement From Grand Funk's Don
Brewer

Terry Knight was murdered defending his daughter at his home in
Killeen, TX on the night of Nov. 1. The updated story can be found at
http://www.kwtx.com/home/headlines/1153186.html .

It is with sadness that Grand Funk Railroad issues a statement
regarding the death of Terry Knight.

"We were shocked to here that Terry had been murdered. Even though we
have not had a friendly relationship with Terry over the last 30 years
it still was very distressing to hear of his death.

"Terry Knight was instrumental in the birth and early success of Grand
Funk Railroad from 1969 to 1972. Having been a former bandmate in
previous bands with Grand Funk's Don Brewer and Mark Farner (The Pack,
and Terry Knight and the Pack) Knight later became manager and
producer of Grand Funk Railroad. During those years Grand Funk sold
millions of records and toured the world as one of the biggest rock
bands of all time even selling out Shea Stadium in NYC faster than The
Beatles.

"There was a major falling out between the members of Grand Funk and
Terry in 1972 and Terry was fired. This led to huge lawsuits and
lasting discord between GFR and Terry.

"Grand Funk moved on and continued to have great success with million
selling hits 'We're An American Band,' 'Locomotion,' 'Some Kind Of
Wonderful' and 'Bad Time.'

"We have had very little personal contact with Terry over the last 30
years.

"We deeply regret Terry's death and our sympathy goes out to his
family."

Don Brewer

Grand Funk Railroad, Nov. 2, 2004

*** NEWS/RUMORS ***
*
-Accept has reunited, at least partially, to play some European
festival dates in 2005. Reportedly, vocalist Udo Dirkschneider,
guitarist Wolf Hoffmann, and possibly bassist Peter Baltes are back
together, but no word on anyone else. (Longtime drummer Stefan
Kaufmann had to step down due to an injury towards the end of the
band's last go 'round, but he's been playing guitar with Dirkschneider
in U.D.O. since Accept's last break-up.) So far it's been announced
the band will play at the Wacken Open Air and Rock Hard festivals.

-Cosmo's Moon will play at McCoy's in Commack, NY, on November 6 with
Crackhead Mafia and Crashbox. Free copies of guitarist Mark
Valentino's solo album AMERICAN SPIRIT will be given away. See
http://www.cosmosmoon.tk/ for more.

-Death Destruction, the much heavier side project of Evergrey
guitarist Henrik Danhage and drummer Jonas Ekdahl, has a four-track
demo featuring the songs "Hellfire," "Chained In Thoughts," "Immortal
Dream," and "Nothing Less Than God." BraveWords.com revealed the band
has a "still unknown/not revealed" Swedish singer from Gothenburg, and
the songs "showcase a death metal intensity, with gutteral or
electronically modulated vocals."

-Finland's Dreamtale will release DIFFERENCE early next year on
Spinefarm Records. The disc was produced by Stratovarius guitarist
Timo Tolkki and features these tracks: "Lost Souls," "Wings Of
Icaros," "New Life," "Lucid Times," "The Mirror," "World's Child,"
"Sail Away," "Fly," "Secret Door," "We Are One," "Green Fields,"
"Powerplay" (bonus track).

-Upcomiing Happy The Man tour dates:
11/11 - The Birchmere, Alexandria, VA
11/13 - NJ Prog House/The Forum Theater, Metuchen, NJ
11/26 - Ram's Head Tavern, Annapolis, MD
See http://www.happytheman.com/ for more.

-The Glenn Hughes/Chad Smith tour of the UK in December has been
postponed, due to Smith's obligations to the new Red Hot Chili Peppers
album. The tour will hopefully be rescheduled for early next year.

-This is just odd. Former Mr. Big/Impellitteri drummer Pat Torpey has
joined The Knack, according to BraveWords.com, and it's actually his
second stint with the band. There is a new DVD out called GETTING THE
KNACK, which is a "'Behind The Music'-style presentation that
chronicles the rise to fame of the band that destroyed disco and the
group's sudden fall from grace." Best of all it features guest spots
from members of The Runaways, The Cars and...wait for it..."Weird" Al
Yankovic. This has to rule.

-Lost Horizon was released from its deal when label Music For Nations
disappeared in the Zomba/BMG merger. Additionally, vocalist Daniel
Heiman and guitarist Fredrik Olsson have left the band "to pursue
other projects." The rest of the guys -- Wojtek Lisicki, Christian
Nyquist, Attila Publik, and Martin Furängen -- will carry on and have
started work on the band's third album. MP3 auditions for the vocalist
slot can be sent to info@... with the subject line of
"I am your next singer!" See http://www.oncelosthorizon.com/ for more.

-Masterplan will release the Andy Sneap-produced AERONAUTICS in
January.

-Former Steel Prophet vocalist Rick Mythiasin has a new band called
Mythiasin, featuring a husband and wife team on guitars. According to
BraveWords.com the band has 11 songs ready to record. In related news,
Mythiasin (the man) sang on the latest from New Eden, STAGNANT
PROGRESSION, out now on P&P Records.

-Nightwish will tour the UK in February as follows:
2/12 - Astoria, London, UK
2/15 - Academy I, Birmingham, UK
2/16 - Academy, Glasgow, UK
2/18 - Academy I, Manchester, UK

-Overlorde will release RETURN OF THE SNOW GIANT through Sonic Age
Records on December 17. Check out the CD's artwork, a new MP3, recent
live pictures, and lyrics to "Colossus (Island Of The Cyclops" now at
http://www.overlorde.com/ .

-TotalRock.com published some Quireboys tour dates for early next year
in the UK:
2/10 - University, Mancheste, UK
2/11 - Woughton Centre, Milton Keynes, UK
2/12 - Corporation, Sheffield, UK
2/13 - Foundation, Newcastle, UK
2/15 - Junction, Cambridge, UK
2/16 - Robin II, Bilston, UK
2/17 - Fleece And Firkin, Bristol, UK
2/18 - Mean Fiddler, London, UK
2/24 - Limelight, Crewe, UK
2/25 - Cathouse, Glasgow, UK

-John Taglieri has moved his Tag Team street team site to
http://streetteam.johntaglieri.com/ . There you can find "find
everything and anything that you would need to become part of the Tag
Team and join in on the promotion that they have been doing! The site
will be updated very frequently with all new promotional items that we
have such as downloadable posters, banners, flyers, buddy icons, etc."
He also has a new "friend community" area at MySpace.com, at
http://myspace.com/johntaglierimusic/ , and announced his new booking
agency is Impact Player Music Ordinary Man Entertainment. Upcoming
shows:
11/16 – The Cornerstone Inn, Carlstadt, NJ (Singer Songwriters Night
w/ Edgar and Josh Rifkin, plus one more)
11/20 – Borders Books, Rockaway, NJ (w/ Sandra Carlucci)
11/23 – The Nutty Irishman, Bayshore, NY
11/27 – The Brickhouse, Milford, NH (opening for Brian Vanderark (The
Verve Pipe) w/ Dave Pittenger)
Taglieri's next album is due in February. See http://johntaglieri.com/
for more.

-Vocalist Gabriele Grilli has left Thy Majestie due to "personal
reasons," and the band's new singer will be announced soon.

-BraveWords.com reported Union -- featuring John Corabi, Bruce Kulick,
Jamie Hunting, and Brent Fitz -- will reunite for two shows in Japan
in January, as part of a Kiss Expo. Prior to that the band will
release a DVD, in time for Christmas.

Thanks to Mark Valentino and Eric Corbin for help gathering some of
this information.
