-While Heaven Wept Join Forces With Black Lotus Records

A statement from the band follows:

"We are pleased to announce after months of deliberation and the
entertainment of various offers following the demise of our previous
label that we have reached an agreement for a long-term collaboration
with Black Lotus Records of Greece!!! We've already begun recording
the new album VAST OCEANS LACHRYMOSE, and are planning for a Spring
2006 release! Fans new and old alike will be pleased to know that BLR
have also agreed to re-release our previous albums in special editions
featuring new artwork, new masterings, and some additional recording
in some instances, so there is no need to continue paying outrageous
Ebay prices! Of course, we will be following up VAST OCEANS LACHRYMOSE
with another all-new album on BLR as well, and we can reveal that 75%
of it is also already written! Plus, there are more releases and
surprises to come!

"As for VAST OCEANS LACHRYMOSE itself, we want everyone to know that
it is clearly our most intense and diverse album so far -- more
progressive and aggressive than ever before, without betraying our
trademark sound. Included in the album will be another long form
composition of 14 minutes+, that we feel rivals what many to be
consider our greatest work ("Thus With A Kiss I Die"). As always, the
music is a sincere expression of who and where we are now, and not a
re-hash of past glories nor something that will be conveniently filed
under a specific genre or label.

"We'll be looking forward to bringing all of these new releases to you
and seeing you on the road in 2006 and beyond!"

-New Battlelore Coming Soon!!!

THIRD AGE OF THE SUN is Battlelore's third studio release and may be
described as a heroic Fantasy Metal masterpiece.

The band's recent line-up changes didn't hurt Battlelore, but rather
paved the way for positive musical developments. Tomi Mykkänen's
versatile vocal approach, for example, not only pefectly harmonizes
with Kaisa Jouhki's melodious voice, but his growls also add much
color to the arrangements. Even Kaisa's own vocals seem to have become
more powerful and have acquired a more emotive and an even more
elfen-like quality.

THIRD AGE OF THE SUN is much more melodious and sweeping than its two
predecessors, and it becomes obvious that variety and Battlelore's
delight in playing is at the forefront of this album, which delivers
yet another wonderful and epic sound experience consisting of 13 new
tales that revolve around Middle Earth. More impressive and
atmospheric than ever before, this release will undoubtedly spirit
away the listener to a world full of energetic tension and magic!

THIRD AGE OF THE SUN is due out August 30 in North America on Napalm
Records.

-Fear Factory In The Studio And Upcoming Tour

After the success of Fear Factory's latest release, ARCHETYPE, which
sold over 122,000 copies within its year of release, the world has no
choice but to eagerly anticipate the next Fear Factory creation. Fear
not, the wait won't be long. Fear Factory are already working on their
next release entitled TRANSGRESSION tentatively due out August 23,
2005 on Trillion Records. Trillion is the new imprint from Liquid 8
Records and Entertainment founder and CEO, Mike Cattain, has created
Trillion as a home for Fear Factory and new bands seeking a creative
haven grounded in growth. http://liquid8records.com/

Fear Factory will enter Track Record Studios in North Hollywood,
California on May 5th, 2005 joined by Toby Wright (Alice In Chains,
Korn, Metallica) who will produce along side with Fear Factory this
highly anticipated musical offering. "We are all very, very excited
about the collaboration with Toby," says singer Burton C. Bell. In
addition to Toby Wright there will be a list of all stars
collaborating on TRANSGRESSION such as bass player, Billy Gold of
Faith No More fame. Burton explains, "Billy brings a different vibe to
the music the way his bass lines move around the beat and drive the
songs with a unique element." Billy will contribute to two songs:
"Echo Of My Scream" and "Super Nova." Other working titles for
TRANSGRESSION are:

Transgression
New Promise (co-written with Mark Morton of Lamb of God)
Empire
540,000 Degrees Fahrenheit

"It's really cool to be writing a new record. We are all feeling very
positive and it's moving quickly since we have overcome some major
obstacles. Now we can work on a fucking great album. 2005 is the year
of TRANSGRESSION for Fear Factory!" says Burton on the current outlook
of the band.

You can get a preview of what's to come of TRANSGRESSION when you play
the new game, Rainbow Six Lockdown, which features a track from
TRANSGRESSION entitled, "Lockdown," as well as scores created by Fear
Factory throughout the menus. Apart from contributing music to Rainbow
Six Lockdown, drummer Raymond Herrera's production company 3volution
Productions, has produced the soundtrack to the Tom Clancy Rainbow Six
Lockdown game, which will include Fear Factory tracks, and many other
songs from various bands, to be released on Calvin/Trillion Records on
August 3, 2005.

Fans will get to hear some of the new Fear Factory tracks this summer
on Dave Mustaine's Gigantour. Christian Olde Wolbers, who will be
slaying fans on the Gigantour tour this summer with his new Jackson
signature series guitars and Krankenstein amps, states, "We're really
excited about doing a big summer tour -- we haven't done that since we
headlined the side stage of Ozzfest in '98. I'm happy to convert the
older and young metal fans of the Gigantour. Once again Dave has put
together a slamming summer tour!"

Dave Mustaine handpicked the bands for Gigantour, with a focus on
musicianship. "There are a few very successful tours out each summer
and in order to be significant, I knew the first Gigantour had to make
an impact with top bands like Dream Theater, Fear Factory, Dillinger
Escape Plan and Nevermore." Mustaine wanted to "put together a
festival that consisted of positive bands that play heavy music in a
high energyenvironment."

-Jacknife To Release MOMENT OF RECKONING On Zero-Sum Recordings August
16th 2005

"We don't have any gimmicks, we just get up there and play," says
vocalist Joe Ortiz of Jacknife. Hailing from Dallas, TX, Jacknife's
sound can best be described as "Texas style brutality" and the band
wastes no time showing listeners why they are the future of extreme
music from the Lone Star state. To call their brand of musical
destruction "metalcore" would be an understatement; Jacknife blends
the best elements of the metal and hardcore genres seamlessly on their
full length debut album MOMENT OF RECKONING, which is set for release
on August 16th, 2005 on Zero-Sum Recordings.

Originally formed in 1999, the Jacknife lineup has gone through
several changes as their music has pushed in a more aggressive and
brutal direction. "The band's sound is getting more toward where we
want it to be," says Ortiz. "I keep the vocals heavy throughout while
the music alternates between melodic and heavy. I think you can
express a different level of emotion by having heavy vocals over
melodic music."

The current lineup, as heard on MOMENT OF RECKONING, comprises Ortiz,
Mike Warren and Steve Pruett on guitar, Joseph Fontenot on bass and
Tommy Crooks on drums. Citing such influences as Megadeth, Anthrax,
Iron Maiden, Overkill and Meshuggah, this young band is well-schooled
in the art of metal.

Having been signed to Zero-Sum, a label founded by management guru
Paul Bassman, Jacknife is seeing quite an opportunity to excel. Paul
has worked with Texas metal royalty, managing Damageplan and Drowning
Pool. "Paul has a name that carries itself," says Ortiz. "Since we are
the first band signed to his label, we're getting lots of attention."

With a rabid local following, Jacknife has worked their way onto bills
with some of the biggest names in metal and hardcore under the sun,
including Slayer, Killswitch Engage, Lamb Of God, Agnostic Front and
Machine Head. Now Jacknife is preparing to take their crusade to the
next level by embarking on a national U.S. tour with M.O.D. and
Crisis.

Is Jacknife looking forward to national exposure? "This is a great
opportunity for us... we just want people to have an open mind when
they listen to our music," says Ortiz.

A full track listing for MOMENT OF RECKONING includes:

Surrender Never
Unbreakable
End Of Man
A Glimpse Of Hell
Deception
Tears Fall Endless
Breaking Away
We The Strong
Destined To Rise
Moment Of Reckoning
Stand Your Ground
Our Time Has Come

Upcoming tour dates with M.O.D. and Crisis include:

-The Backyard Babies Have Returned To Rawk America!

Lock up your daughters, Stockholm's Backyard Babies are returning to
North America!!

After a successful tour opening up for punk legends, Social
Distortion, the Backyard Babies are returning to North America for a
headlining national summer tour with labelmates The Black Halos,
kicking off at the NXNE Conference in Toronto, June 9th at Funhaus.

The Babies will be supporting their newest release, TINNITUS on
California based Liquor and Poker Music. A compilation of four tracks
from previously unreleased albums, TINNITUS is an overdue introduction
to one of rock n' roll's unsung diamonds. It combines experiences of
the Backyard Babies' teenage years listening to The Clash, Kiss, Dead
Boys, Motley Crue, The Stooges, Hanoi Rocks and the Rolling Stones
with the rock n' roll circus experiences gained as a touring band.
More importantly, the unrelenting rock n' roll provides a glimpse into
the past as well as the future of over the top, trashy, punk rawk &
roll.

Forerunners of the Swedish invasion that brought bands like The Hives,
Sahara Hotnights and The Hellacopters, which guitarist Dregen was a
founding member of, the Backyard Babies have unleashed a
mirror-shades-and-mascara action-rock riot upon unsuspecting citizenry
in every corner of the globe.

-Twisted Sister To Release LIVE AT WACKEN THE REUNION DVDplus Through
Eagle Rock Entertainment On June 28, 2005

First-Ever Worldwide Release Of Revolutionary DVDplus Double-Sided
Disc Features Both Full DVD Video And Full CD Audio

Wacken Concert, New Interviews, Archival Footage And Previously
Unreleased Live Songs Are Included

The legendary hard-rock band Twisted Sister will release LIVE AT
WACKEN THE REUNION on DVDplus through Eagle Rock Entertainment on June
28, 2005.

DVDplus is the revolutionary new medium featuring both full-length DVD
video and CD audio on opposite sides of the same disc, unlike
competing formats which do not offer consumer-desired full-length DVD
capability. DVDplus discs are playable on existing DVD and CD
equipment; no special gear is required. LIVE AT WACKEN THE REUNION is
the first DVDplus title to be released worldwide with label printing
on both sides of the disc.

The invertible hybrid disc was first conceived by acclaimed record
producer and engineer Dieter Dierks, best known for his work with
Twisted Sister and Scorpions. Twisted Sister vocalist Dee Snider was
an early proponent of DVDplus and Phil Carson, Twisted Sister's
manager and a legendary music industry executive, trumpeted the
technology to countless record company heads and others. Eagle Rock
Entertainment and Twisted Sister's foresight regarding DVDplus'
potential has paved the way for others to follow in their footsteps.

"I first heard of DVDplus when Dieter Dierks, a German record producer
pal of mine, came to New York and showed me this astonishing
technology," says Snider. "I saw a massive potential that is
particularly important to record companies. Here is a way for them to
give the consumer a much needed incentive to pay for a CD."

Snider then showed the disc to Carson. "This is exactly what the
industry needs," says Carson. "It gives the consumer extra value and
serves as a deterrent to downloading."

Twisted Sister leading the DVDplus charge with LIVE AT WACKEN THE
REUNION is not the first time the band has been at the "cutting edge"
of the music business. Billboard Magazine once reported that the first
CD in the history of recorded music to become a cutout was Twisted
Sister's Dierks-produced COME OUT AND PLAY!

The DVD side of LIVE AT WACKEN THE REUNION -- mastered in both stereo
and 5.1 surround sound audio -- features Snider, co-lead guitarist Jay
Jay French, co-lead guitarist Eddie "Fingers" Ojeda, bass guitarist
Mark "The Animal" Mendoza and drummer A.J. Pero tearing through a
blistering set at the world-renowned Wacken Open Air festival in
Germany on August 2, 2003.

The 14 complete live DVD songs are "What You Don't Know (Sure Can Hurt
You)," "The Kids Are Back," "Stay Hungry," "Destroyer," "Like a Knife
in the Back," "Under the Blade," "You Can't Stop Rock 'N' Roll," "The
Fire Still Burns," "Shoot 'Em Down," "We're Not Gonna Take It," "The
Price," "Burn in Hell," "I Wanna Rock" and "S.M.F."

New, shockingly candid interviews with all five band members trace the
steps from Twisted Sister's initial 1987 breakup through to the full
2003 reunion. These include everything from French and Snider's
reconciliation, a partial 1997 reunion at the Speaks club in Long
Island, VH1's 2001 "Behind the Music" episode, a performance at the NY
Steel benefit show after September 11, the 2003 USO tour of American
military bases in South Korea and much more. Rare archival footage
from several of these events is featured. DVD bonuses are the story
behind STILL HUNGRY and the recording of "Mendoza's choir" of family
and friends providing background vocals for the album. STILL HUNGRY,
the re-recording of the classic 1984 album STAY HUNGRY, was originally
supposed to serve as the CD portion of the DVDplus, but it was
released on its own late in 2004.

The CD side includes previously unreleased live versions of "Bad Boys
(of Rock 'N' Roll)," "Born to Be Wild," "I'll Never Grow Up Now!" "You
Know I Cry" and "You Can't Stop Rock 'N' Roll" recorded between 1980
and 1982, and six songs from the Wacken concert, including "What You
Don't Know (Sure Can Hurt You)," "The Kids Are Back," "Stay Hungry,"
"Like a Knife in the Back," "The Fire Still Burns" and the CD-side-
only "I Am (I'm Me)."

"LIVE AT WACKEN THE REUNION is really the story of how a band breaks
up at the peak of its game and manages to come back bigger than ever,"
French says. "After we reunited in 2003, we headlined European
festivals that we used to be in the middle of the bill on during our
original run."

Technical obstacles delayed LIVE AT WACKEN THE REUNION, which was
originally planned to contain just the Wacken concert and STILL
HUNGRY. The technical issues were resolved and, during that time, the
project grew and became much more than what Twisted Sister had first
conceived.

"We decided to make a documentary about the band's comeback. We spent
our own money to do this, including writing a script and creating a
timeline. This was an idea for a film -- a piece of art, something
more substantial than just a concert. I think it's fitting since I
think we're performance artists, not just a heavy metal band," French
says. "It shows how we grew on a personal level and realized how
special the band is and how we appreciate each other more now. Making
this DVDplus was a catharsis."

Nearly two years of work has paid off handsomely. LIVE AT WACKEN THE
REUNION turned into a remarkable, fully realized examination of
Twisted Sister.

"It's not simply a concert film. There's a bigger story here. It's the
story of a band coming out of dormancy and an inside look at that band
going from zero to 60 in a few seconds. Why did this happen now? A lot
of bands that were popular in the '80s are revered even more these
days," French says. "That's the question we're asked over and over
again: Why would a band come back after 16 years? This DVDplus shows
how that evolution occurred. Forces larger than the band brought us
back together, and that can't be overstated."

The band has scheduled more performances for 2005 to promote LIVE AT
WACKEN THE REUNION. For all the latest news and tour date information,
visit http://www.twistedsister.com/ . The Philadelphia show on July 15
is a benefit concert for the band's former sound engineer Charlie
Barreca, who received a liver transplant.

Current North American tour dates include:

-Yeah, so, the Judas Priest/Queensryche hit the Chicago area last
Friday night and I missed it. Earlier that day I was at lunch with a
good buddy of mine, and I mentioned the show. He basically stopped in
mid-chew and said, "And you're not going." He knows I'm a Priest
worshiper and a major fan of old Queensryche. The rest of the
conversation went something like this...

Tim: Nope, I'm not going. It's too far south from me.

Todd: (thinking) Judas Priest and Queensryche though. Was there ever a
time when you would've ranked them as your top two bands?

Tim: (not liking where this is heading) Technically, no, because I
always put Kiss first just kinda by default.

Todd: Yeah, but still. You love those bands.

Tim: Yeah, you're right. They were always in my Top 5 but they'd never
be ranked 1-2.

Todd: But wouldn't this probably qualify as the *best* two-band lineup
you could have ever seen?

Tim: (giving in) Yep.

Todd: Then you're a dumbass for not going.

The moral of the story is you can always count on your buddies to
restate the obvious and make you feel even lamer. :)

-My wife recently bought an album at CD Baby ( http://www.cdbaby.com/
) called NOISY SONGS FOR NOISY KIDS by The Thunderlords. Our daughter
is five months old now and she really seems to dig music. My wife
found this Thunderlords band, read their bio and listened to some MP3
samples, and figured I'd get a kick out of their "heavy metal aimed at
kids" songs. The disc has 8 or 9 songs and is *really* short, and it's
too heavy to play for our kid, but "I Like Dirt" is rather catchy,
"Little Teapot/Big Old Viking" is kinda funny, and "Eat Vegetables" is
actually a parody of Iron Maiden's "Run To The Hills" but with
different lyrics. That cracked me up. I didn't really research the
band too much but it kinda just looked like a one-man project, and the
"sound" is vaguely similar to Gwar or Green Jello/Jelly. As I said,
too heavy for a five-month-old. :) See http://www.thunderlords.com/
and http://cdbaby.com/cd/thunderlords/ for more.

-Now in my current playlist: The Thunderlords - NOISY SONGS FOR NOISY
KIDS (indie), Dungeon - ONE STEP BEYOND (LMP/SPV), Beyond Twilight -
SECTION X (Nightmare Records), Iron Mask - HORDES OF THE BRAVE (Lion
Music), Evick - SUNSET TO SUNSET (Potomac Records), Midnight Circus -
MONEY SHOT (Perris Records).

ARTENSION - FUTURE WORLD (B-/C+) Lion Music, 2005
11 tracks, RT: 50:31
Hard to believe that Artension have already released seven albums as
it seems like they were newcomers to the progressive metal scene just
yesterday. In case you're not familiar with these guys, Artension is
Vitalij Kuprij's band project and he has been one of my favorite
keyboard players since his fantastic HIGH DEFINITION CD. Vitalij's
specialty is obviously neoclassical metal, fully evident from the
beginning of FUTURE WORLD. I love the neoclassical style but one of
the weaknesses I find inherent in most of it is a lack of powerful
rhythms; it seems to me they usually take a back seat to the
single-note runs of the guitar and keys. I find this is again the case
on FUTURE WORLD, as there are examples of great playing by all the
musicians throughout the album but rhythms are not as powerful as I
would prefer. Similarities to Yngwie Malmsteen and Ring Of Fire can
easily be heard, although there are some unique touches on such songs
as "Federation" and "Tree Of Knowledge." "Prelude" is a short
instrumental featuring Vitalij's well-known harpsichord sound (here a
bit "tinty" for my tastes), while "Stand & Fight" showcases typical
neoclassical power metal, as it could almost have come off Yngwie's
FIRE AND ICE album. The title track is one of the highlights, with
drummer Mike Terrana in fine form and the rhythm guitars a bit more
pronounced. Vocalist John West recalls Mark Boals and Goran Edman, and
he is often emotional with good phrasing, although one-dimensional at
times. Steve DiGiorgio is an excellent bassist, effortlessly handling
speedy lines with grace and precision, while Roger Staffelbach shows
tremendous growth as a lead guitarist. Favorites here are probably
"Close To The Sun," with its melodic flow and tight drumming, and the
dramatic "Take Me In Your Arms," briefly straying into territory not
unlike recent Labyrinth. So the verdict is that FUTURE WORLD is good
in sort of an expected way, nothing you've not heard before, and
certainly delivers the skills fans of this genre demand to hear. My
advice would be to explore some more diverse material and improve the
production, most notably by beefing up the rhythms. Otherwise, those
already fans of Artension and Ring Of Fire will find more of that
style to enjoy here. - Neal Woodall (MysticX10@...)

SUMMON - FALLEN (B-) Moribund Records, 2005
11 tracks, RT: 34:52
[ orders@... ]
Summon is an archetypical thrash metal band. Track after track you are
assaulted by ear scorching metal. If not for the breaks in between the
tracks I believe causal listeners will think FALLEN is an epic length
EP. And still the skins provided by Josh Moore simply are amazing. I
can't believe he's human and not a couple of drum machines. Every
track he blasts away with such ferocity and velocity that all
headbangers and devil horn throwers will need an ice pack. The
gravelly black metal vocals by Xaphan (guitars) and Necromodeus (bass)
blend well with the crushing music, but if you hate "cookie monster"
vocals I recommend passing by FALLEN, for there is little range shown
by either screamer. Summon is very good at playing super fast, super
dark, super angry music but at only 34 minutes and 52 seconds I would
summon the energy to fall on by and save your money for something
else... Final note: The first 5,000 copies of FALLEN come with a bonus
DVD featuring a Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound mix. - Rick Berg

Re: Union DVD artwork puzzle

Hey, Tim. Does the license plate "LITG8C" have something to do with
the legal world, such as "litigates?" It's all I can come up with.

This is a huge stretch, but wasn't Corabi involved in some sort of
litigation with the guys from Crue after he left? Who knows, maybe he
got enough of a settlement that he bought himself a bus. I'm stumped.

Rob

[You know, "litigate" occurred to me right before I sent out last
week's issue, but I wasn't convinced that was the answer. I think
you're right about Corabi vs. Crue but I don't remember details...
Good a guess as any at this point! - Tim]

Re: Laaz Rockit press release in Detritus #319

Good Afternoon Tim,

I am a United States Navy Petty Officer stationed at Yokosuka, Japan.
I read your online articles religiously, and I must say that you and
your crew do an OUTSTANDING job!! The emails keep me close to home and
keeps me on top of the scene. I wanted to say thank you for taking the
time to include me in the circle. It means a lot to this service
member that hasn't been home in quite a long time.

Hey I wanted to touch base with you and find out ANYTHING about LAAZ
ROCKIT. I was really surprised when I found out the played the
illustrious Dynamo in May. Then your article on Hirax and Laaz Rockit
playing the Cancer Benefit really topped things off for me. I am a
long time fan of Laaz Rockit. I was wondering if you have any email
addresses for the band or even a possible web site covering them to
the present? Being stationed overseas really hinders my search
capabilities, and you seem to really know what is going on. If you can
please get back to me, I would really look forward to hearing from
you.

Again, thank you for YOUR service, you really do a good job
Tim.....from your loyal fan and friend,

Petty Officer Rupp, K. D.

[I already responded privately to Kent, but I figured I'd throw this
out to the Detritus readers as well. I only had a couple brief news
bits from BraveWords.com that referenced Laaz Rockit, and Neal was
able to dig up some basic info at the BNR Metal Pages,
http://www.bnrmetal.com/ , and a brief Dynamo live review at the
"roarzine" site. Does anyone else have anything more on Laaz Rockit?
Please share! Thanks. - Tim]
