-Orange Sky To Release Debut Album UPSTAIRS In North America On
Granite Records On September 13, 2005
Trinidad-Based Band Plans European And North American Tour Dates,
Followed By Release Of Live DVD
Quintet Named International Ambassadors By Trinidad's Ministry Of
Tourism
Originality has returned to rock music thanks to the vibrant work of
the Trinidad-based quintet Orange Sky. The band has a high-energy,
soulful rock sound with exciting splashes of Caribbean music and
reggae. You've never seen or heard anything like Orange Sky.
Orange Sky will release its official debut album, UPSTAIRS, in North
America on Granite Records on September 13, 2005. Granite -- a hot new
label dedicated to developing career artists -- was founded by its
three managing directors, music industry veteran Dave Austin, his wife
Cathy Austin and Kansas drummer/manager/producer Phil Ehart. Granite's
releases are distributed by Fontana, a Universal Music Group company.
UPSTAIRS was produced by the legendary Jeff Glixman, known for his
distinctive work with the likes of Kansas, Kiss' Paul Stanley, Black
Sabbath and countless other top musical artists. Glixman's other
recent projects include 5.1 surround sound remixes of classic albums
by Eric Clapton, the Allman Brothers Band and Ludacris.
Orange Sky, which formed three years ago, has already achieved
superstar status in the Caribbean and sold an astonishing 10,000 CDs
independently in the region. The band's popularity is scaling such
heights that Trinidad and Tobago's Ministry of Tourism has officially
named Orange Sky as International Ambassadors.
Band members include lead vocalist/lead guitarist/songwriter Nigel
Rojas, bass guitarist/vocalist Nicholas Rojas, rhythm guitarist Adam
Murray, keyboardist/vocalist Richard Hall and drummer/vocalist Obasi
Springer. Nigel and Nicholas are brothers.
ICM is proposing an Orange Sky European tour for this summer, and US
dates will follow soon after.
Songs on UPSTAIRS include "It's Over," "Escape," "Alone" and a
haunting interpretation of the Cat Stevens classic "Peace Train,"
which is relevant now more than ever.
"Orange Sky has a very unique, distinct sound. We are excited about
getting the band out there to perform and develop a loyal fan base.
Orange Sky is unbelievable live and our immediate goal is to get them
playing in front of as many people as possible," says Dave Austin.
"This band has that special, magical quality, and they're hard-working
too. When people hear Orange Sky, they truly get a piece of the band's
heart and soul."
"We're coming from a different place. We're not from Europe, we're not
from the States. I think we're coming from an objective point," says
Nigel Rojas. "The fans we have now are always intrigued. 'Where are
these guys from?' 'What are they doing?' 'Who's this black rock band?'
In the DVD, they not only see Orange Sky live in concert, they also
get to see us amongst our people in our element right here in
Trinidad."
"I think people will understand what we're all about the first time
they see us live. They'll understand the vibe and spirituality behind
this band," says Hall. "Something magical comes out every time we
play. We're not even in control of the show. Something else greater
than all of us takes over."
This fall, Orange Sky will also release its first-ever DVD, LIVE IN
TRINIDAD, through Granite. It was filmed at a rollicking sold-out show
in its hometown of Port-of-Spain.

video, music and much more, visit http://www.theorangesky.com/ .

-My American Heart To Release Debut Album THE MEANING IN MAKEUP
September 13 Through WARCON Records
The much-anticipated debut album, THE MEANING IN MAKEUP, by rising
emo/punk sensation My American Heart, will be released September 13
through WARCON Records.
Produced by Sal Villanueva (Thursday, Taking Back Sunday) and mixed
and engineered by Matt Squire (Thrice, Northstar), the band's first
release is already being hailed as one the top break-out records of
2005 with such strong singles as "The Process," "Runaway" and
"Poison."
"My American Heart is one of the most promising young talents that I
have come across," said Villanueva.
MAH, whose average age is just 17, may appear from the outside to be
newcomers to the scene. However, with over 1 million PureVolume
downloads, three national tours and a full-run on this year's Warped
Tour, this five-piece group out of San Diego are no strangers to
success.
"We're really young and that helps a lot," says 18-year old vocalist
Larry Soliman. "We've been doing this since we were 14 and just trying
to become the best we can be. For our age, I think we're really good."
Equal parts rock and punk, MAH's unique sound is what has separated
the band from being lumped into a definable category, which as Soliman
notes, is exactly what they were setting out to do.
"We have a retro rock kind of vibe mixed with our own inspired
creative flair," he said. "We never came out saying we want to sound
like this band or that band, we just made what felt natural to us from
what we've learned and went with it."
The end result is a solid, multi-faceted album that is sure to further
establish the group as a major force within the emo/punk scene.
THE MEANING IN MAKEUP tracklisting includes:
1. The Meaning In Makeup
2. The Process
3. Today Is The Number Seventeen
4. Don't Sleep
5. In Between
6. Postcards & Letters
7. Runaway
8. We Are The Fabrication
9. The Keys To My Organ
10. How Dirty Boys Get Clean
11. The Takeover
12. Poison
The CD, as with all WARCON releases, is packaged with a free bonus DVD
that includes audio tracks, music videos, video game demos, movie
trailers and extreme lifestyle clips.
WARCON Entertainment is an all-encompassing brand name with record
label, touring, publishing, design, media management and clothing
divisions. WARCON's mission is to make itself synonymous with the
post-hardcore/screamo lifestyle.

-Overlorde Update
Overlorde announces the launch of its MySpace Music page at
MySpace.com! Guitarist Mark "M.E." Edwards explained the importance of
this:
"The metal community has really flourished at MySpace. Especially the
American fans. We just recently became aware of MySpace Music, which
allows bands to post songs and interact in a positive way with fans.
It really is a great place to bring the bands and fans together, and I
think it's going to go a long way in rejuvenating the
classic/heavy/power metal scene here in the states. The response has
already been great. The page has only been up for about 10 days and we
have already hooked up with over 500 new fans!"
The site is found at http://www.myspace.com/overlorde/ . Anyone who
already has a MySpace profile is invited to send an ADD FRIEND REQUEST
to the band. For everyone else, you don't need to be registered to
check it out but it is required to access all sections of the
Overlorde page. Registration is free.
"People visiting the site will find some cool things and surprises on
our MySpace Music page in the coming weeks," Edwards explained. "And
right now there is information regarding a contest to win free shirts
and posters. You can also post to a blog wishing some of Overlorde's
band members a happy birthday. If anyone out there likes what he or
she sees, be sure to tell all your other MySpace friends! See you
there!"

-Calvin Records Partners With "Rainbow Six" To Feature Artists' Songs
On Soundtrack
Fear Factory Hits To Be Included On X-Box And PS2 Versions
Set For Release September 6
Calvin Records, an imprint of Liquid 8, has announced that it has
aligned itself with the much-anticipated "Rainbow Six" video game to
include two songs by the label's leading artist Fear Factory.
Available on both X-Box and PS2 on September 6, 2005, "Rainbow Six"
will feature the band's hit song "Lockdown" as well as a re-recorded
version of the game's theme song.
Drummer Raymond Herrera, who is no stranger to the video game world
with his own production company 3Volution, believes that there is a
natural synergy between music and video games and is hoping to have
the band's songs appear in more upcoming releases.
"The relationship between music and other media can no longer be
denied," he says. "In today's technology-driven marketplace it just
makes sense to align ourselves with projects like 'Rainbow Six.' The
way we see it, all the lines will soon be blurred when it comes to
entertainment and we aren't afraid to embrace it."
In addition to "Rainbow Six," Fear Factory is also working on a remix
of "Demanufacture" for the upcoming PSP game "Infected" which is
slated for an October 31 release.
Mike Catain, Calvin Records owner and CEO, says that these new
relationships that the label is building are just one part of the
company's overall business strategy.
"We'd be foolish to ignore the opportunities that exist between music
and other forms of media," he says. "As an innovative company that has
built its reputation on 'thinking outside the box,' forging
relationships with video games and other outlets is just another way
for us to enhance our brand identity and garner more exposure for our
artists."
Fear Factory is currently on the road with Dave Mustaine's Gigantour
promoting its newest album TRANSGRESSION which is set for release
August 23 via Calvin Records.

in such renowned publications as Guitar World, Giant and the L.A.
Times, have officially joined the lineup of Liquor And Poker Music. We
will release the group's new album, TALES FROM THE WHITE LINE, on Oct.

produced by Chris Brown (Raidohead, Muse) so you know the quality of
musicianship has to be top notch! Because of the love the fans and

features the songs from the EP along with new tracks that are simply
stunning.
The band are on a nation wide tour right now to start the buzz for
their new album and this tour will see the band gone for two months in

the band live. Check out what the critics are saying about the record

You won't regret it!
"Ridiculously rocking and catchy...expect big things." - Giant
"A blur of shaggy blonde hair, flailing guitars, hard-hitting drums,
power chords and fast-paced bass lines, but ultimately their song
craft and presentation distinguish the group as modern and original."

TINNITUS From Backyard Babies Is Still Ringing The Ears Of American
Fans
Rock and rollers across the country still have tinnitus after
witnessing the Backyard Babies kick out their high-energy live show
the past two months with label mates Crash Kelly. Girls' hearts were
broken along with some beer bottles every night the guys rocked and
American fans have finally received their due with the release of
TINNITUS from Backyard Babies and Liquor And Poker Music. The guys did
tons of press during the tour including photo shoots and interviews
for Revolver Magazine and Thrasher Magazine that should be surfacing
soon so make sure and grab your copy when they are released. Keep your
eyes open for details on another kick ass tour from Sweden's bad boys
of rock and pick up a copy of TINNITUS from the Liquor And Poker
website or your local record store.
Crash Kelly Rocks With Backyard Babies And New Album News!
Toronto rock warriors Crash Kelly are back home preparing for their
next tour after tearing up the stage opening up for label mates
Backyard Babies last month. The band have been headlining gigs and
playing with rock legends such as Motley Crue in their hometown. Just
before the band set out on tour with the Babies, they recorded their
new record for Liquor And Poker Music with none other than Guns N'
Roses former member Gilby Clarke. The new record will be out early
next year but expect to see and hear new stuff from the band when they
go on tour in Canada and return to the US for more touring. We will
also have your first chance to hear the new material on the Liquor And
Poker site in the coming months.
In other Crash Kelly news, main man Sean Kelly, had the thrill of his
career when he was selected as one of the 10 Finalists from more than
3,000 entries, who were invited to perform in Guitar Player Magazine's
first ever Guitar Hero Competition which was held on Friday June 10th
at the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in Cleveland. It was an exciting
event with players from the US, Germany and Sweden participating.
While performing his instrumental "Something Hollywood" off their
debut PENNY PILLS, Kelly received heaps of praise for his playing and
showmanship from Joe Satriani, Steve Lukather and his son Trevor
(Lindsay Lohan's guitarist), GP's Jude Gold and Cleveland's WMMS-FM's
DJ Munch, who were judges for the event. While the show was a blast,
the after party was even better and Kelly looks forward to being
involved in more events with Guitar Player in the future.
There are so many killer things happening for Crash Kelly that you
will have to keep hitting up the site for more. Expect bigger and
better things from Crash Kelly and check out the band's new t-shirt
that's for sale and new MP3 for the track "Love Me Electric" on the
Liquor And Poker site.
"Pre-owned Camaro rock that still runs like a champ, by denim-clad
Toronto kids who probably dig crates for Starz and Angel vinyl. Their
riffs might make Brian May smile, but their harmonies would have
Freddie Mercury swooning." - SPIN
"The decadent hard rock from the '70s and '80s, dressed up nicely with
a keen sense of melody and even a touch of class...a tight, infectious
sound." - OUTBURN
Nebula Complete New Studio Album And Kick Out The Jams At The X-Games
In Los Angeles!!!
Liquor And Poker's rulers of the Universe, Nebula, have completed
their much-anticipated follow up to their stellar debut for us, ATOMIC
RITUAL. The band enlisted the help of producer Daniel Rey (The

yet. The band is currently in mixing and mastering phases and an early
2006 release is expected.
Nebula set the extreme sports world on fire when the played at this
year's X-Games at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. The band kicked
out jams from all their albums and played amazing covers of Black Flag
and Iggy and The Stooges songs. The X-Games fans were in awe and the
heat proved to be the catalyst for one of Nebula's most memorable live
performances to date. The band will begin a tour next month that will
have a stop at this year's CMJ Music Marathon. The guys will also be
playing the Sunset Junction Street Fair on August 28th in Silverlake,
CA. with the mighty New York Dolls and Eagles Of Death Metal.

Patrick's Day. The band had a great time and will back soon to break
more hearts and skulls with their live show. Go to the Liquor And

of the most critically acclaimed rock records of 2004. Reviews from

*** PRESS RELEASE #11 ***
*
-Brides Of Destruction On US Tour; Heading Out On The "Motor-Homey"
Tour With National Recording Artist Adema
HOLLYWOOD -- BOD will be on tour supporting their new album RUNAWAY
BRIDES releasing September 27th on Shrapnel Records. Their first
single "White Trash" is soon to hit the airwaves. "White Trash" is
exactly what it sounds like. "The pot calls the kettle black ..money
can't buy class ...but in LA it's all for free all you need is a
casting couch, a bloody scalpel and a sugar daddy," recites LeGrande.
It pays homage to all the trailer-park-style culture and the people
that try to leave them. From there the Brides will discharge a slew of
slamming songs on the audience like "Criminal," "Deadman's Ruin" and
"Lords Of The Mind." "This is the record we always wanted to make,"
states Tracii Guns. "It has a great blend of modern rock heaviness
with retro sounds and styles. It is the perfect 'Brides' record of
today."
Adema will be coming off their own headlining tour to join the Brides
on a tour of debauchery in support of their latest album release
PLANETS. Standout tracks include: the first single, "Tornado"; title
track, "Planets"; a ballad, "Rise Above"; rocker "Bad Triangle,"
featuring a guest vocal appearance by Jujitsu master Ralek Gracie, aka
Rio Life, a member of the world-renowned Gracie Family (and friend of
Adema drummer Kris Kohls, himself an avid Jujitsu trainer); and fierce
closer, "Vikraphone." Yet, the truth is, all the tracks on "Planets"
(count them, 16!... plus one extra surprise!) are expertly-crafted,
hook-laden songs; there is not a miss among them.

*** REALM OF SHRED ***
*
by Neal Woodall (MysticX10@...)
-Ahh, the busy summer, been out of the Realm for far to long I fear.
Lots going on though, here are a few things of interest I've recently
run into:
...One of my favorite magazines currently is the excellent UK
publication Classic Rock; by the time you read this those of us in the
States should be able to check out the latest issue featuring Thin
Lizzy; it should be a really good read. More info can be found at
http://www.classicrockmagazine.com/ .
...In more Thin Lizzy related news, Gary Moore is reportedly working
on his new Celtic rock project with none other than longtime cohort
Bob Daisley along for the ride! Also a possibility is the involvement
of Neil Carter. This is definitely shaping up to be one eagerly
anticipated release! Keep updated at http://www.garymoore.hu/eng.htm .
...The Scorpions have released their new live DVD UNBREAKABLE WORLD
TOUR: ONE NIGHT IN VIENNA in Germany and it will soon see the light of
day in Japan; no word yet on a US release date but I'm sure that can't
be too far off. I'll try to let you know via this column when it is
actually released, or you can check http://www.the-scorpions.com/ .
...Houston based progressive metal masters Stride have updated their
Web site, http://www.strideonline.com . Make sure to catch them at
ProgPower USA VI!
...In addition to Audioscrobbler (which is now Last FM), I've been
checking out profiles on My Space ( http://www.myspace.com/ ) -- you
would be surprised how many cool bands are hanging out there. I've
recently added Helstar, Jag Panzer, Black Majesty and Chris Caffery to
my friends list, among others. Drop me a note at
http://snipurl.com/gzy3/ .
...Been checking out the new Vicious Rumors DVD CRUSHING THE WORLD a
lot lately. This really has some cool performances that make me want
to hear new material and see the band live. Grab yourself a copy at
their Web site http://www.viciousrumors.com/ or at
http://www.theendrecords.com/ .
...Like Tim I've been following "Rock Star: INXS" as I always liked
the band and was interested in seeing how they would conduct the
auditions. It's been an interesting run and I've enjoyed some of the
performances, although there has been more than a few train wrecks as
far as song/singer compatibility goes. *heh* My vote goes to Ty
Taylor, who has a powerful and soulful set of pipes and seems to have
the confidence to pull it off; we'll see...
-On the playlist this week: Yngwie Malmsteen's Rising Force - UNLEASH
THE FURY, Loudness - LIGHTNING STRIKES, John 5 - SONGS FOR SANITY, Oz

Hatchet - TAKE NO PRISONERS.
-Until next time, rock!!!

JOHN 5 - SONGS FOR SANITY (B+) Shrapnel, 2005
12 tracks, RT: 42:59
John 5 again proves he lets no grass grow under his feet as between
working with his band Loser and playing with Rob Zombie at this year's
OZZfest he has found time to release his second instrumental album
SONGS FOR SANITY. One of the most commonly heard complaints about
instrumental guitar albums is that they are one-dimensional affairs
with too much flash and too little substance. John 5 seeks to rectify
this perception by including songs with a variety of moods and
textures, inviting the listener to have fun with the music. Included
here are 12 tracks that show off John's versatility while
entertaining, and that is an accomplishment. Check out "Soul Of A
Robot" for some pure heavy metal punch, followed by the bluegrass
twang of "Gein With Envy." "Sin" begins with an eerie, bizarre intro
then explodes into a metal frenzy as John plays with reckless abandon.
We're back to acoustic guitar with the Jimmy Page inspired and
unusually titled "Behind The Nut Love" featuring some nice slide, then
"Blues Balls" starts off like a typical Shrapnel shred piece but
surprises with an awesome melodic hook and some quirky playing. The
campy "Fiddlers" is a bit much with its rock meets hillbilly send-up
and honestly I'm not always crazy about John's electric guitar tone,
which at times resembles an amplified kazoo (!?), but overall John has
delivered a very listenable instrumental album with plenty of
character and diversity. Two of John's guitar heroes, Steve Vai and
Albert Lee put in appearances on several tracks and you even have an
acoustic piece ("2 Die 4") that would sit nicely on a Pink Floyd
album. Recommended for fans of the Vai/Satriani school of fun
instrumental rock and those wanting something with a healthy dose of
off-the-wall humor and creativity. - Neal Woodall (MysticX10@...)
IRON MAIDEN - THE ESSENTIAL IRON MAIDEN (B+) Sanctuary, 2005
Disc 1: 13 tracks, RT: 74:49
Disc 2: 14 tracks, RT: 73:02
The "unnecessary" Iron Maiden, perhaps? Nah, I'm just kidding, but do
we really need *another* Maiden compilation? Didn't we get EDWARD THE
GREAT (in two different iterations, no less!), ED HUNTER, and the big
EDDIE'S ARCHIVE box set all in the last few years? Anyway, it appears
the motivation for this release was to introduce the co-headlining
Maiden to young fans of this year's OZZfest. (That's my guess anyway.)
The formula for assembling this collection was as follows: represent
each of the band's 13 studio albums with two songs, mix in a couple
live tracks from the classic and most recent live albums, and tack on
a "bonus" preview track from the upcoming live album. Given those
parameters the tracks that appear here try to show off all sides of
the band, from the short nuggets to the semi-proggy epics: CD #1 -
"Paschendale," "Rainmaker," "The Wicker Man," "Brave New World,"
"Futureal," "The Clansman," "Sign Of The Cross," "Man On The Edge,"
"Be Quick Or Be Dead," "Fear Of The Dark" (live, from ROCK IN RIO),
"Holy Smoke," "Bring Your Daughter... To The Slaughter," "The
Clairvoyant." CD #2 - "The Evil That Men Do," "Wasted Years," "Heaven
Can Wait," "2 Minutes To Midnight," "Aces High," "Flight Of Icarus,"
"The Trooper," "The Number Of The Beast," "Run To The Hills,"
"Wrathchild," "Killers," "Phantom Of The Opera," "Running Free" (live
from LIVE AFTER DEATH), "Iron Maiden" (live, from the upcoming DEATH
ON THE ROAD). Some would argue that with a title like THE ESSENTIAL
IRON MAIDEN, the set should completely ignore the band's two-album
Blaze Bayley era, but I would counter that two of his four tracks here
("Futureal" and "Man On The Edge") are still pretty damn cool. I would
also ask why the hell "Bring Your Daughter... To The Slaughter" is
here. Man, c'mon, this song blows. Give me "Tailgunner" off of NO
PRAYER FOR THE DYING in its place any day. "Sign Of The Cross" is
another dubious choice; yes, the live version Bruce Dickinson sang on
the BRAVE NEW WORLD tour was kind of cool, and the last three minutes
of the studio version *are* worthy, but this song is just toooooo long
and stale. You can't go wrong with a lot of what's on CD #2 -- "Wasted
Years," "2 Minutes To Midnight," "Aces High," "Flight Of Icarus," "The
Trooper," "The Number Of The Beast," and "Run To The Hills" are all
bona fide metal classics -- but where's "Sanctuary"? Where's "Hallowed
Be Thy Name"? Why include the sing-along-padded live version of
"Running Free" instead of the action-packed studio version? Ah, such
are the questions facing any compilation, right? So, yeah, maybe this
isn't a "must-buy" but it sure is fun and it's been tough to remove
from my player these last couple weeks. (But where the hell is Eddie?
This could be the only Iron Maiden release anywhere that does not
include a single picture of the beloved mascot!!!) - Tim Wadzinski
