-Pain Of Salvation: New Album & Bass Player Search
New Pain Of Salvation CD in the works...
The name of the upcoming Pain Of Salvation album will be SCARSICK, and
the band is focusing on the new songs right now. The band will enter
the studio within the next few months. Daniel describes the albums as
much more band oriented and down to the core. Threatening and
disturbing. We can't wait. Can you?
Pain Of Salvation seeks new bassist...
A message from Daniel ...
"There has been a lot of discussions on forums and by e-mail since the
announcement that Kristoffer will no longer be part of the band, so we
thought we might clear a few things out.
"First of all, we are very sad to see Kristoffer go of course. Some
fans have described this as a catastrophy beyond words, others as a
'so-what' event. It is of course neither -- it is what we would like
to label 'a big deal' -- but the most important thing to remember is
that this was a band decision, with focus on the future of the band.
"We have decided not to stress this, we will take all the time needed
to find the perfect bass player. There is no replacement bass player
under consideration as of yet, but since so many bass players have
already started contacting us, we might as well make clear what is
needed for this task, to save some people the trouble:
"The premises:
"1. You are a very, very good bass player that masters slapping/
tapping/finger/pick on both fretted and fretless 6-string basses.
"2. You are a fast learner with a very good ear.
"3. You have a good voice with a decent range and are used to singing
harmonies.
"4. You are driven and responsible and can learn the earlier albums
basically on your own.
"5. You live in Sweden, or maybe you are so rich that you can take a
private jet there two or three times a week. In any case, there will
basically be rehearsals that often, and you need to be able to be
there somehow.
"6. You are a nice girl or a boy of say 20-35 that loves music in many
forms.
"7. You don't do drugs, and you are very restrictive with alcohol
(never a drop before a show).
"The bonuses:
"8. You feel at home on stage and can spend tons of energy without
having your playing suffer.
"9. You have a driver's license.
"10. You take an interest in world issues and politics. You probably
think that Gandhi's march for salt or his burning of passports were
braver political actions than Bush's war on terror.
"11. You look cool.
"So, is this you, or anyone you know? In that case, you are welcome to
introduce yourself to us, preferrably with some photos and sound
samples. As already mentioned, we are in the process of recording the
next album and we will most likely not bring a new member in before
this album is done. However, we said the same thing back in 1998 but
then we found Johan, so you never know..."

-The Lifted Release Full Length Debut: A REASON TO LIVE
The Lifted combines the best elements of rock, metal, and alternative
to produce powerful and moving music tailor made for radio favorites,
mosh pit riots, and captivating live performances. With the release of
their first full length album A REASON TO LIVE on Rudy Records and the
release of their first radio single "Wrecking Ball," The Lifted is
ready to raise rock to their standards.
Drummer Chris Clang, lead guitarist Jeremy Doyle, vocalist Paul
Levesque, rhythm guitarist Brian Mitchell, and bassist James Bonnette
are all veteran musicians. Though each of them has played with other
bands and knows the difficulty of creating a cohesive musical fusion,
when the five friends got together in 2003 they all knew they have
found a combination worth the wait. With diverse musical influences
the five have found a common ground in a fusion of sounds and lyrics
that lives up to their name, lifting rock to their level of
musicianship.
"We like to show that bands can use creativity in a positive form,"
Says Chris Clang. The Lifted's music is at times intense, but they
make a point to stay clear of vulgar or explicit language, tending
instead towards positive messages delivered with energy and a tightly
wound musical harmony. "Our music comes from the heart and is inspired
by both positive and negative life experiences," says Paul Levesque.
Each song on A REASON TO LIVE is perfect for the radio or the dance
floor. On "Confessions Of A Serial Killer," the guitar wails over
thumping bass and drums like rolling thunder before Levesque's lyrics
come in with a haunting refrain. On "Teenage Social Life," The band
begins with soft guitars, but then comes the lightning, crashing in
with a pounding bass. The lyrics are harmonized adding depth to the
verse and blending into the heart wrenching chorus.
After two years practicing and playing together the band has become
what Clang calls "A Machine." On stage or in the studio they follow
each other, trying to perfect each song and make each composition as
tight as possible. "We create an outstanding writing force that
satisfies all our musical desires," says Clang. "Our writing process
is magical and on stage we are a well oiled machine."
With the release of A REASON TO LIVE, and a list of top flight venues
on their touring schedule, The Lifted is on a road to becoming the
next force in rock and metal. Already the five are busily working on
songs that might become their next album and they continue to practice
and perfect each composition for the stage and the studio. In a genre
where so much of the music sounds the same, The Lifted have found a
way to take their music further, with a blend of sounds and
intelligent songs that will place them in a position to lead the next
generation of rock.

-New Neal Morse CD At Radiant!
Hello there,
How are ya? Hope everything is going well in your world.
We are back from Europe and recovering. It was a great trip, both
spiritually and physically. Many thanks to all the wonderful people
who came and encouraged us along the way.
We have a new Neal Morse release for you. If anybody cares, this is
one of my favorite CDs he's ever made! At least your wives will like
it!
Neal Morse – SEND THE FIRE (Worship Sessions Volume 2)
Inspiration comes rarely for some, but, apparently for Neal Morse it
is an every day event. Check out these new songs on his new SEND THE
FIRE CD. Inspired is the word that comes to mind.
Neal says "When it was time to schedule these sessions I only had
about 5 songs ready but I felt like the Lord wanted me to move ahead
so I set up the sessions anyway. Lo and behold that week I wrote 5
songs that are my favorites on the CD! A lot of the vocals are the
'live' vocals that I did as we were tracking, so we got a lot of that
fresh feeling out of it. I tried to keep it simple but the basic
tracks were so good (drum tracks by Scott Williamson, Mark Leniger and
Luke Pugliese) I got a bit carried away and some of these songs came
out even better than I was expecting. I'm extremely pleased with it."
With 10 new original songs and two covers (including an amazing
version of John Davis' "The Kind Of Heart") and clocking in at 68
minutes and change, this is one of Neal's finest "song oriented"
albums to date.
Now available at http://www.radiantrecords.com/
Inner Circle Update: Next week we'll be shipping out NEAL MORSE IN THE
'80S to all the people on the Inner Circle list. It's a great trip
through Neal's past with demos, a radio clip and narration. There's
even a demo done in 1980 by Neal, Alan and Richard and it sounds like
Neal's voice hasn't changed yet! To receive this rare item go to
http://www.nealmorse.com/ and click on the Inner Circle banner, then
follow the sign up instructions. You must be signed up by March 15th
to be in next week's shipment.
Disclaimer: There is a mistake on the print for the '80s CD. There are
actually 18 tracks rather than 17 as it says in the booklet. The extra
track is the "advertising demos." Sorry 'bout that but it's already
been printed so it's too late.
Well, all the best to you and many blessings,
Cherie Morse

STEELWIND INK DEAL
Z Records are proud to announce the signing of Texan AOR sensations
Steelwind to a two-album deal.
The band's European debut will be released on April 10th and features
the immense talents of Kevin Humphrey. Material wise Steelwind draw
major influence from such acts as Boston, Journey and Gary Moore.
Kevin made the following comment:
"I'm VERY excited about being on board with Z-Records and having the
opportunity to share the Steelwind music with Europe! Living in the
USA is also a wonderful place to indulge in music, but it seems
there's a certain genre mold that one has to fit in to be accepted.
The musical field is so narrow and controlled. Music is truly a
universal language and it's good to know that Steelwind will now be
able to translate its audio to many listeners around the world." -
Kevin Humphrey 09.03.06
Sound samples will soon be online at http://www.zrecords.net/ .

-Get Out Your Devil Horns! Warner Home Video Releases "Metal: A
Headbanger's Journey"
Awarded Official Selection at the Toronto, Atlantic and Vancouver Film
Festivals and will Screen at film festivals such as SXSW, Washington
DC, AFI Music Documentary Series and San Francisco International
Festival in Spring 2006
Featuring Interviews with Top Charting Metal Stars Rob Zombie, Iron
Maiden's Bruce Dickison, Geddy Lee of Rush, Alice Cooper, Slayer,
Slipknot, Tom Morello of Rage Against The Machine, Vince Neil of
Mötley Crüe, Black Sabbath's Tony Iommi, Dee Snider of Twisted Sister,
Ronnie James Dio and Many More
BURBANK, CA -- Heavy Metal has long been a stigmatized musical genre
characterized by aggressive rhythms, dark lyrics and satanic worship.
"Metal: A Headbanger's Journey" is a ground-breaking film that
explores the history of how these stereotypes came to be and explains
the motivation and truth behind the music through candid interviews
with Metal icons including Rob Zombie, Alice Cooper, Dee Snider,
Ronnie James Dio, Tony Iommi, Bruce Dickison, Lemmy Killmeister and
many more. The "Metal: A Headbanger's Journey" two-disc set will be
released by Warner Home Video on May 23, 2006 for $24.98 just in time
for Metal's most popular music festivals such as OZZfest, Gigantour
and Sounds Of The Underground kick off. Order due date is April 18,
2006.
Sam Dunn, a 30-year-old anthropologist, has been fascinated by the
culture of Heavy Metal since he was 12 years old. In an effort to
study its origin and cultural impact, he sets out on a global journey
to find out why this music has been consistently stereotyped,
dismissed and condemned and yet is loved so passionately by its
millions of fans. Along the way, Sam explores metal's obsession with
some of life's most provocative subjects -- sexuality, religion,
violence and death -- and discovers some things about the culture that
even he can't defend. Shot on location in the UK, Germany, Norway,
Canada and the US, this documentary is the first of its kind. It is
both a defense of a long-misunderstood art form and a window for the
outsider into the spectacle that is heavy metal.
"Heavy metal music has an enormous worldwide following that many
people are unaware of because it has been overshadowed by images of
violence and mosh pits," said Tehya Kopp, WHV Senior Director, Special
Interest Marketing. "This documentary digs into the stereotypes and
misconceptions about the artists' motivations behind the lyrics and
harsh sound and explores the real side of Metal in a way that appeals
to Metal and non-Metal fans alike. It's an eye-opening documentary
that is both informative and enjoyable to all audiences."
"Metal: A Headbanger's History" contains over 87 minutes of special
features including:
o 16 extended interviews with Metal / Rock icons!
o 20-minute mini-documentary on Norwegian Black Metal
o Footage with Lemmy from Motörhead at the Rainbow
o Director's commentary
o Travel Outtakes
o An awesome interactive metal history family tree, created
specifically for the DVD. All on two discs!

-So I'm finally getting around to watching bits and pieces of
Manowar's 2003 two-DVD set HELL ON EARTH III... I watched all the
band's music videos and was just flat-out stunned at the evolution
from the prehistoric, early '80s clip "Gloves Of Metal" to the pair
from 2002's WARRIORS OF THE WORLD: "Warriors Of The World United" and
"I Believe." According to a "making of" featurette on the DVD, "Gloves
Of Metal" was self-financed and shot by a group of film students
working on a class project. It's so *way* far beyond cheesy -- dig the
mock combat scenes and all the dudes wearing animal skins! -- but it's
also definitely a sign of the times because there were a ton of
similar Dungeons & Dragons-themed videos back then. And as the band
members say, you've got to start somewhere! Then fast-forward nearly
20 years to the WARRIORS OF THE WORLD clips. Good God man! These are
just flat-out *cool* videos. I don't really even like the songs all
that much, but the sets, lighting, and overall vibes of the clips
enhance the tracks 200%. For one of them, the guys perform among
flaming metal chains hanging down from the ceiling of their private
recording studio. Awesome. I want to be 13 again so I can try that in
my dad's garage... Ah well, I just had to get that off my chest.
Manowar rules and I hope guitarist Karl Logan heals up in time to get
that new album recorded this spring!
-Now in my current playlist: Judas Priest - THE ESSENTIAL JUDAS PRIEST
(Columbia/Legacy), U.D.O. - MISSION NO. X (AFM), Shining Star - ENTER
ETERNITY (Nightmare Records), Motorhead - STAGE FRIGHT (DVD) (SPV).

PROTO-KAW - THE WAIT OF GLORY (B+) Inside Out Music, 2006
10 tracks, RT: 62:49
[ info@... ]
A little bit of history is warranted for this review, as Proto-Kaw is
actually the second incarnation of Kerry Livgren's famous band Kansas,
with the third version of Kansas being the one everyone is most
familiar with. Reuniting with musicians he played with over 30 years
ago, Mr. Livgren applied the name Proto (prototype) Kaw (Indian word
from which Kansas is derived) and proceeded to release some of their
old songs in 2002 followed by new music on 2004's BEFORE BECAME AFTER.
Clear? OK, here we are in 2006 and Proto-Kaw is back with a brand new
album of original material. Will it take the world by storm? Er,
probably not, but there is some excellent progressive rock to be heard
here, produced by some of the originators of the style. The album
begins with "Nevermore," a somewhat eerie Middle Eastern tone
lightened by Lynn Merideth's smooth and comforting vocal delivery and
a great instrumental segment reminiscent of the glory days of
progressive rock. "Relics Of The Tempest" follows with some decidedly
Christian lyrical themes (prevalent throughout the album), a dramatic
vocal delivery and atmospheric use of flute and keyboards. "Physic" is
an energetic jazz/fusion-tinged rocker with some excellent playing
from Livgren and his old band mates -- the keyboards, bass and guitar
really stand out on this one. "Osvaldo's Groceries" is an enjoyably
bizarre instrumental, with its interesting use of saxophone, accordion
and vocal effects in an odd structure, while "Old Number 63" is R&B
with a real funky James Brown feel. I don't know, it's all very well
done but there are for me some excessively mellow, bland areas in
several of the songs that seem to reduce the overall energy level of
THE WAIT OF GLORY, but there is enough good material to make it a very
worthwhile listen, and for fans of Kansas and Kerry Livgren, the album
is likely a dream come true. - Neal Woodall (MysticX9@...)
THE TANGENT - A PLACE IN THE QUEUE (A-/B+) Inside Out Music, 2006
7 tracks, RT: 79:01
[ info@... ]
Billed on the sleeve as "A double album on a single CD," The Tangent's
third album A PLACE IN THE QUEUE lives up to its progressive hype not
only in terms of length but also content. Fifteen minutes into the
first track "In Earnest" I found myself asking "just how long is this
song anyway?" (The answer: 20:03). Band leader Andy Tillison has gone
to great lengths to declare his love for early Yes music, and although
the influence is clearly there, the material on A PLACE IN THE QUEUE
is quite distinctive, relying on Tillison's heavy keyboard presence to
bring its loosely conceptual story to life. Poignant portraits of
everyday life in England mix with heady observations about "herd
mentality" -- as in blindly following leaders, religions, trends, etc.
There is some interesting use of flute and saxophone on songs like
"Lost In London" and "DIY Surgery," and an incredible groove and
energetic, creative keyboard playing taking you right back to 1973 on
the excellent "GPS Culture." You'll be stunned by the killer
musicianship on "Follow Your Leaders," especially the slippery bass
playing of Jonas Reingold and effortless drumming of Jaime Salazar.
"The Sun In My Eyes" is an insanely catchy piece for a prog album and
serves to get the listener's ears back on solid ground before the 25-
minute title track takes off on another musical journey. Parts of the
longer songs that sometimes meander a bit too long for my tastes, and
might have you wanting to reach for the fast-forward button, but stay
with it and you'll hear some amazing playing nestled in music that is
wonderfully arranged and produced. Injecting the current progressive
scene with a healthy dose of intelligence, humor and virtuosity is The
Tangent's talent, and A PLACE IN THE QUEUE is highly recommended for
fans of the genre. - Neal Woodall (MysticX9@...)
