-Leatherwolf Re-enters The "WORLD ASYLUM"

LOS ANGELES -- California metal warriors Leatherwolf have returned
with WORLD ASYLUM, their first studio album in over 15 years.

WORLD ASYLUM was recorded with the new lineup of original members Dean
Roberts (drums) and Geoff Gayer (guitar) with new additions Wade Black
(vocals), Eric Halpern (guitar), and Patric Guyton (bass).

Leatherwolf, which had two major label releases, LEATHERWOLF and
STREET READY, in the late '80s regrouped several years ago for some
live dates and re-ignited the Leatherwolf flame. A live album was
released in 1999 but due to financial constraints, several of the
group's original members were unable to continue on, so a new lineup
was recruited.

Since the original reunion, Roberts and Gayer have kept a low profile,
working on new material and finding new members to join the fold.
WORLD ASYLUM shows a harder and meaner side of Leatherwolf than its
'80s releases and when looking for a new voice to front the band,
Black, known for his work with Crimson Glory and Seven Witches, had
the pipes to fill the position.

"Wade has a heavier side than our original singer, Mike Olivieri,"
said Roberts. "When it came to replacing singers, Geoff and I decided
to go with more of a metal singer, and out of all of the singers that
auditioned, Wade killed them all."

Olivieri, however, still remains a part of the Leatherwolf family,
adding backing vocals on WORLD ASYLUM.

Initial response to WORLD ASYLUM in Europe has blown the band away.
"Geoff and I wanted to make a great record after we got back from
Wacken concert," Roberts said. "We are #2, #4 and #6 in the top three
metal magazines in Europe and people were surprised by how great the
album is. But, more importantly, I love this record. I think it's the
best record Leatherwolf has ever done."

The band plans to tour as much as possible in support of WORLD ASYLUM,
giving fans who never had the chance to see them an opportunity.
Leatherwolf is currently scheduled to kick off ProgPower USA in
Atlanta in September with a performance at the festival pre-party.

-Journey Forced To Make Lead Singer Change On Nationwide Tour

[Note: I'm not exactly sure where this comes from, but a buddy sent it
over and I figured I'd run it. Hope nobody gets pissed... - Tim]

Special Announcement About Journey From Classic Rock Revisited

Jeff Scott Soto To Assume Journey Lead Singer Duties Starting On July
7th In Bristow, VA Due To Steve Augeri Throat Infection

July 6, 2006 -- Due to a chronic throat infection, Journey's lead
singer, Steve Augeri, has been forced to leave the band's current
nationwide tour with Def Leppard. Jeff Scott Soto, who has previously
performed with Journey guitarist Neal Schon, will assume the band's
lead singer duties starting with the July 7th show in Bristow, VA.
Steve Augeri's condition will be closely monitored by his physician to
determine when he may be able to rejoin the tour.

According to Journey, "Steve's been suffering with an acute throat
condition since before we kicked off the tour with Def Leppard. We
were hoping he'd be in well condition to handle the rigors of the road
but unfortunately it appears to be a chronic condition requiring total
voice rest. We all wish Steve a speedy recovery."

-Dead End Kidz Recording Update

Hello again friends! We'd like to pass on to you that all the
recording for the Dead End Kidz 2006 project is done!

All guitar work was finished up today by Scott Carlson and Mike
LoBianco. After what drummer Tom Mahalko and bassist Kevin Edell laid
down last week with their thunderous playing, Scott and Mike added the
fire and flash that DEK is known for. All the lead vocal duties were
finished up today by DEK frontman John Erigo.

With Micky James behind the board, DEK is confident that they will
bring you rock the way it should! We will now enter the mixing stage
of the project, and then it's on to mastering (so, the hard part is
done!).

Thanks again for all your support and interest, we'll keep ya updated!

-Eric Ragno News Update - Happy 4th Of July!

[Note: This comes from Eric's latest e-mail newsletter that we
received last Friday. - Tim]

July 4, 2006

Hey folks! I had a short break this week so I wanted to give you an
update on some of the exciting things going on this summer. This year
took off running, seeing me featured on albums by both Seven Witches
and The Rainy Thursdays. This fall you can also find me on the re-
release of Jack Frost's solo album OUT IN THE COLD, as well as the
live Seven Witches DVD YEARS OF THE WITCH. 2006 continues to be a busy
year, with me working on new releases for David Readman (Pink Cream
69), Michael Bormann (ex-Jaded Heart), American Angel, Gia Vipond,
Losin Ground, and my own band China Blue.

The China Blue record is very close to my heart, as I wrote the bulk
of it myself and had some good friends come together to make it into
something truly special. The lineup features Tony Mills (vocals for
Shy and TNT), Rev Jones (bassist for the Michael Schenker Group),
European session guitarist Michael Riesenbeck of Fanfields, and Zane
Peterson (drummer for Malicious and Conditioned Response). We have
been getting special production help from Brian Bart (who has produced
some of the Night Ranger solo releases), Ray Mantor of Vox Tempus and
AOR heavy Phil Vincent. Work continues aggressively on this album,
which has a great Journey/melodic rock vibe to it. You can hear the
first single, "Air To Breathe," on upcoming compilations by both
Melodic Rock.com's and the Prog Power Festival. Check out all the
latest info at http://www.chinabluemusic.com/ !

Currently I am focused on the annual Summer NAMM show, which takes
place in Austin, TX, in two weeks. I will be going out to promote the
Williams Keytar ( http://www.keytarinc.com/ ), an amazing instrument
that I have been using live at recent gigs and will be debuting in
Japan this fall. (You can watch video of me demonstrating the Keytar
at http://www.onebluemonkey.com/WinterNAMM20061.asp?id=424 ).

The Keytar folks have been on an aggressive promotional campaign, and
have featured my likeness in ongoing issues of Keyboard Magazine,
Guitar World's Annual Buyer's Guide, Music Trader, MMR and Progression
Magazine (which includes a full-length interview with me surrounding
Vox Tempus). Available now at newsstands everywhere.

Well I've talked about the past and the present, let's discuss the
future. This summer I will continue writing songs for the upcoming
solo record from Josh Ramos ( http://www.joshramos.net/ ). Josh is an
incredibly talented melodic rock guitarist who is best known for his
work with The Storm (featuring Gregg Rolie, Ross Valory and Steve
Smith -- all members of Journey). Their debut record hit #3 on the
Billboard charts. Josh later went on to replace Journey's Neal Schon
in Hardline. We are both shooting for that same Journey/Melodic Rock
vibe, with the album being produced by famed producer (and Steve Vai
bassist) Fabrizio Grossi.

Finally in the fall I will begin performances with violin virtuoso
Robert Anthony Aviles ( http://www.raamusic.com/ ). Robert is a
kindred spirit whose brand of instrumental music has developed a
sizable following, especially in Japan and Korea. He is already doing
advance press for his fall tour, and has me playing keyboards as well
as the Williams Keytar. The music is moving and I am excited to be
making this kind of music again. More news as it becomes available.

I want to thank all of you who continue to stand by me, buy my records
and come to my shows. A special thank-you to the companies that
continue to sponsor me and help me to do what I do -- your help is
invaluable.

Take care and have a safe and healthy summer! And visit
http://www.ericragno.com/ for all the very latest!

-Saga To Play First US Show In 22 Years In New York City!

Revered Canadian prog rockers Saga will be making their triumphant
return to US shores on Saturday, July 22nd @ B.B. King's in New York
City.

Touring off their 17th album, TRUST (their first new release for
Inside Out Music), Saga plan on making their appearance at B.B. King's
a special event.

"We haven't worked out a set yet, but I would think we're going to do
something similar to what we did on the European tour," begins singer
Michael Sadler. "After not playing in the states for 22 years, some
people think we might have disappeared -- we just went on a long
vacation from the country. And if you think about it, we've been
rehearsing for this show for 22 years."

According to Sadler, the new album, TRUST, has had more selections
performed live than any of their albums in recent memory, giving the
fans something to look forward to.

"The set will be a cross-section of new and old," notes Sadler. "But
we're playing four-five songs off the new album which is something we
rarely do. I guess that says something about how much the fans like
TRUST."

For Sadler, returning to the states will rekindle a lot of fond
memories, some of which are still fresh in his mind.

"The US was great the last time we were over," enthuses Sadler. "We
did five or six tours in a row with bands like Jethro Tull, Pat
Benetar and Billy Squier. I didn't expect us to be so well received,
but we were getting a great reception every night. I remember the
audiences in the US being more excitable than the ones in Europe. The
Europeans tend to watch and listen while we're playing -- the
Americans are a lot more animated. I can't wait."

The show will be recorded live and will be broadcast on XM Satellite
Radio's "Fine Tuning" program.

Saga's latest album, TRUST, is in stores now. Look for their upcomoing
live DVD to hit stores in early fall.

-Pretty Maids Sign With Frontiers

[Note: This comes from the Frontiers site, http://www.frontiers.it/ .
- Tim]

Frontiers Records is excited to announce the signing of Danish Metal
legends Pretty Maids for a multi-album deal which will start with the
release in the fall of the band's brand new album WAKE UP TO THE REAL
WORLD, the long awaited follow-up album to 2002's PLANET PANIC.

In singer Ronnie Atkins' words: "The new record has all the trademarks
a good Pretty Maids album should have and that's the overall
combination of good melodies and strong guitar riffs. But the keyword
as far as I'm concerned is it's gotta be melodic: whether it's the
heavier and faster tracks or the more ballad/AOR oriented kind of
stuff, in other words 'good songs' and I think the album has got
that!"

Songwritingwise the new Pretty Maids songs lean a bit towards their
early '80s roots with obvious similarities to PLANET PANIC and updated
and strong production. The new record will be the first release to
feature former Royal Hunt and Kingdom Come drummer Allan Tschicaja,
who replaced Michael Fast in April.

WAKE UP TO THE REAL WORLD is set to include eleven new songs: "Wake Up
To The Real World," "All In The Name Of Love," "I Am The End," "As
Guilty As You," "Why Die For A Lie," "Such A Rush," "Where True Beauty
Lies," "Brave Young New Breed," "Terminal Violence," "Perfect
Strangers" and "Another Shot Of Your Love."

The long awaited come-back is set to be released in November on
Frontiers Records in Europe. More info to be released soon!

-MVD Audio Release Update - August 29, 2006

Marillion, Blag Dahlia, Kawabata Makoto & The Mothers Of Invention

OAKS, PA -- MVD Audio is pleased to announce the release of three new
titles for North American distribution on CD. They will be released on
August 29, 2006 (prebook cutoff July 25) and each CD will boast a
different retail price.

MARILLION – MARBLES LIVE

Recorded at the Astoria in London on July 10th and 11th 2004, this CD
is pure live music from the band described as "one of the progressive
rock world's most enduring and undervalued treasures," Jon Hotten,
Classic Rock. Marillion's live performance is stirring with songs that
are intense, deep-seated and musically rewarding. Since the early '80s
Marillion was known for their amazing live shows, gaining a huge
following of loyal fans. The brilliant album Marbles proved to be even
better live through this CD.

Tracklist: "The Invisible Man," "Marbles I," "You're Gone,"
"Angelina," "Marbles II," "Don't Hurt Yourself," "Fantastic Place,"
"Marbles III," "The Damage," "Marbles IV," "Neverland," "Estonia"

Selection #: INTACTCD09
UPC: 5060108070928
Run Time: 72 minutes
Retail Price: $13.95

BLAG DAHLIA - NINA (AND OTHER DELIGHTS) SPOKEN WORD & MUSIC

NINA (AND OTHER DELIGHTS) is one of the most audacious spoken word CDs
you will ever hear. Culled from the new novel "Nina"
(scapegoatpublishing.com) by Blag Dahlia, warped mastermind behind the
notorious Dwarves, this disc also contains selections from Blag's
column "How To Write Good" and improvisations that call to mind a more
demented Joe Frank on LSD. A background of lush turntable lounge music
serves as the spoon full of sugar to help this vile elixir go down.
For everyone loves words and hates everything else.

Tracklist: "Whatever I Want," "This Old Whore," "Blag Dahlia Radio
Intro," "How To Write Good - 'Cocaine,'" "Extreme Skate Abuse,"
"'Nina' Intro," "'Nina' Chapter 11," "'Nina' Chapter 12," "San
Francisco," "How To Write Good - 'Halloween,'" "Invisible Ink Outro,"
"The Legend Of L-Mo," "Young Toilets Club," "Christ Comes Back"

Selection #: MVD0504CD
UPC: 022891050421
Run Time: 41 minutes
Retail Price: $12.95

KAWABATA MAKOTO & THE MOTHERS OF INVENTION – HOT RATTLESNAKES

HOT RATTLESNAKES is a reissue of a classic out-of-print Acid Mothers
Temple-related CD. Pressed in a limited quantity in the UK, it sold
out almost immediately and currently commands high prices on eBay and
is whispered about in hushed tones from those who have actually heard
it. Guitarist Kawabata Makoto brings along Acid Mothers Temple cohorts
Tsuyama Atsushi (Zoffy, Omoide Hatoba) and Ichiraku Yoshimitsu for one
of the most out there power trio recordings ever. While certainly
close to Acid Mothers Temple in sound and feeling, Hot Rattlesnakes
certainly exists in its own little corner of the Acid Mothers Temple
galaxy. "If you're planning to give Ibiza a miss this summer and take
a trip to the far reaches of the known galaxy instead, this is a must
for your Walkman (iPod?). Recommended." - Peter Marsh, BBC
Experimental Review

Tracklist: "Theme Of Hot Rattlesnakes," "Fripian Flipped Over Niffy
Their King Of Frippery," "French Sweet Sugar House"

Selection #: PMCD1
UPC: 022891910121
Run Time: 53 minutes
Retail Price: $13.95

-Summon Concert Sparks Brawl Between Band Members

Cult Group Remains Intact, Now Actively Seeking Singer/Guitarist

Following a devastatingly killer performance in front of a packed
audience at Detroit's Club 2500, members of Michigan's Satanic Beer
Metal Cult Summon certainly lived up to their intense reputation as a
fistfight broke out between founder and bassist Necromodeus and
frontman Xaphan. The bloody brawl which ensued left Xaphan
"permanently scarred" and the popular underground outfit in search of
a new singer/guitarist.

Contrary to rumors stemming from a post on Xaphan's official MySpace
page, Summon has not disbanded and are actively seeking a replacement
for the former frontman.

In an official statement, band leader Necromodeus stated, "We're not
going to quit because he did...again. We're looking for a replacement
singer."

Most recently, the popular underground group issued FALLEN via
Austria's Napalm Records. Featuring appropriately wicked cover art
from legendary artist Joe Petagno (Motorhead, Ritual Carnage) and
being the first extreme metal album to be recorded in Dolby 5.1 sound,
the record scored big with critics and fans alike, garnering rave
reviews in the press and attracting a rabid audience to European
concerts in support of God Dethroned and US appearances alike.

Currently, the group is preparing material for their next album and
looking toward touring in October with Century Media recording artists
Incantation.

-Strictly Heavy Management Signs Wisconsin Hardcore Band "New Society
Of Anarchists"

N.S.O.A has taken the Hardcore scene by storm, moshing up the venues
worldwide. In an effort to further their message "Unite the kids,
unite the scene," they recently signed with Theresa Mullins-Aldao's
management company, Strictly Heavy Management, which focuses mainly on
exceptionally heavy bands.

In 1990 brothers, Zakk Z. and Arlo Z., came together with Cousin Jason
Z. to form New Society Of Anarchists. After quickly acquiring a
suitable drummer, they began to set up shows across Wisconsin. In
1993-1994 N.S.O.A. released their first attempt at a self-titled
debut. Soon, they went on to release SLAM! STOMP! MOSH! CRUSH! in
1996, and this release landed them a spot on the '96 Vans Warped Tour.
After taking this small victory, the band still seeks no rest, they
hit the studio right after the tour to record RIOT GUN, and in 1997-
1998 they continued to frequent their local circuits and toured
throughout the US independently.

After coming home from the road, once again, N.S.O.A. gathered at the
studio to record, GAGGED BY THE FLAG taking their aggression up a few
notches on the rage gauge. N.S.O.A. was then chosen to go on tour with
legends M.O.D. in support of their latest release THE FEW, THE PROUD,
THE BRUTAL, which was produced by Hardcore legend Billy Milano of
S.O.D./M.O.D., who has also produced such well known bands as, M.O.D.,
Agnostic front, Scar Culture, and Marauder.

In 2002 and 2003 the band was chosen to be the supporting act for
D.R.I.'s "20 Dirty Rotten Years" tour. COME OUT SWINGIN received great
praise and recognition from fans, producers, and well known musicians
worldwide, known to be the band's best recording to date. During the
summer of 2005 the title track "Come Out Swingin" took the MySpace
Charts for ten (10) consecutive weeks, as the number one download with
750,000 downloads. Now, in 2006, the band is working diligently in the
studio, on their latest project FOR THE FORGOTTEN which will focus
more on politics, personal hardships and outcasts in society, just to
name a few. FOR THE FORGOTTEN will be released by N.S.O.A.'s
independent label, Turkey Vulture Records. Upon signing with SHM,
N.S.O.A. has been working in conjunction with a team of professionals
in furtherance of their careers, coming closer to those next
milestones.

For more information and music samples, visit the Web sites provided
below. SHM Headquarters is now located at the Chaffinch House B&B in
Easton MD, also owned by Theresa Mullins-Aldao.

-Lyzanxia Have Signed A Worldwide Deal With Listenable Records

French metallers Lyzanxia have inked a worldwide deal with Listenable
Records. The group's third full-length album, UNSU, will be released
in September all over Europe and a short time later in the US.

The follow-up to 2004's MINDCRIMES was recorded and mixed at Studio
Fredman in Gothenburg, Sweden by Fredrik Nordstrφm and Patrick J.
Sten. The mastering was done by Peter In De Betou at Tailor Maid
Studio. The album has 12 tracks and the cover artwork was designed by
Alain Trιhard.

"This band is all killer and no filler right off the bat. These guys
show that Thrash isn't dead."

"An intoxicating display of flowing melodic death metal that takes on
an identity of its own, failing to ponder to the current melodic death
sound that runs rampant. With a two-pronged vocal attack that melds
Alice In Chains-like dramatics (oh yes!) and traditional growls,
Lyzanxia easily distances itself from its contemporaries."

-Didja check out the bit in "News/Rumors" about Extreme's reunion
tour? I regret I only got to see them live once, wayyyyyy back when
they were touring for PORNOGRAFFITTI. (Details: There was a promo deal
where if you bought a copy of the album you got a free ticket to their
show at the Thirsty Whale (R.I.P.) with Alice In Chains opening up. We
road-tripped from our college to the Whale and it was P-A-C-K-E-D. My
spot was way off to stage left and it was so cramped and crowded in
there I think I might have seen singer Gary Cherone once and part of
bassist Pat Badger's shoulder once.) I used to really love this band,
let me tell you. They were one of the few groups all my college
buddies and our girlfriends could basically agree on. I still love the
first two albums, although, truth be told, I don't really pull 'em out
for spins very much anymore. I got nervous at first when III SIDES TO
EVERY STORY came out in '92 because it was a little "different," but I
soon came to dig it as well. But, then, all bets were off when WAITING
FOR THE PUNCHLINE came out in '95. I hated this album then and I still
hate it now. I dusted it off after reading this reunion tour bit, just
to see if perhaps any of those songs hit me differently now, a decade
later. Nope, still terrible.

This was one of those albums from the mid-'90s that caused me, an '80s
metal refugee, to start desperately seeking help from US indie bands
and import CDs. Mind you, these were the halcyon days of such
abortions as Vince Neil's CARVED IN STONE (1995), Widowmaker's STAND
BY FOR PAIN (1994), Black Sabbath's FORBIDDEN (1995), Dangerous Toys'
THE R.TIST 4.MERLY KNOWN AS DANGEROUS TOYS, Great White's SAIL AWAY
(1994 -- Not really an abortion, but way, way too mellow.), Iron
Maiden's THE X FACTOR (1995), Kiss' CARNIVAL OF SOULS sessions,
Fight's A SMALL DEADLY SPACE (1995 -- I actually remember tearing the
plastic wrap off this one and pleading, "Please do not suck!" So much
for that.) and Warrant's ULTRAPHOBIC (I don't even know when this came
out -- I had a tape copy once but tossed it.). All "my" bands were
either breaking up or taking severely misguided left turns with their
styles, and Extreme was one of the biggest offenders in my book.

All that negativity aside, I sure do hope they start up again. I would
love to see them live one more time...

-Now in my current playlist: Warrant - BORN AGAIN (MTM Music), Mind's
Eye - WAITING FOR THE TIDE (reissue) (Lion Music).

THORBJORN ENGLUND - INFLUENCES (B+/B) Lion Music, 2006
16 tracks, RT: 39:59
Winterlong guitarist Thorbjorn Englund releases his first instrumental
album INFLUENCES and it's chock full of expertly played guitar in the
style of Joe Satriani and Yngwie Malmsteen among others. Like Anand
Mahangoe and Doug Doppler, Thorbjorn is not trying to do anything
particularly groundbreaking here, he just wants to deliver some
well-crafted instrumentals in the style of those who inspired him to
play. One of the things that I have mixed feelings about is the length
of the compositions, many running well under the three minute mark. On
the one hand this is refreshing, as Thorbjorn gets his point across
without meandering or excessive playing, but some of the compositions,
however, could have used a little more development. Thorbjorn does
some of his best work on the dramatic, riff heavy rocker "Siberian
Nights," melodic groover "Wicked Child" and excellent acoustic workout
"A Flame Of Flamenco." Thorbjorn is a talented artist and I think with
a bit more experience he will be able to further distinguish himself
from his influences and become one himself! A tasty offering for those
into instrumental guitar albums. - Neal Woodall (MysticX9@...)

O.S.I. - FREE (B-/C+) Inside Out Music, 2006
11 tracks, RT: 48:15
[ info@... ]
Anyone familiar with O.S.I.'s eponymous debut will already know that
despite the presence of Jim Matheos, Joey Vera, Mike Portnoy and Kevin
Moore, their music departs quite a bit stylistically from Fates
Warning and Dream Theater, the band favoring a more ambient, modern
sound. O.S.I.'s second offering FREE continues to explore different
textures, melding electronic and industrial elements to interesting
effect in places but diminished somewhat by Moore's stubborn vocal
consistency. On opener "Sure You Will," Joey Vera delivers a dance
club worthy bass line with Moore's insouciant vocals and odd keyboards
mixing with Matheos' power chords in an oddly captivating manner,
followed immediately by the quirky and catchy title track featuring
some excellent drumming by Portnoy. "All Gone Now" has a cool menacing
sound with a hypnotic groove and powerful rhythm guitar, and
establishes itself as the album's best track. But by the time we get
to "Home Was Good," Moore's vocals really start to sound a bit too
uniform, the detached despondency of the lyrics continuing to make
proceedings excessively bleak on tracks like "Bigger Wave" and
"Kicking." Sometimes music like this can really fit the mood you're
in, but for me this type of thing is best enjoyed in small doses. Fans
of the somber offerings of Nine Inch Nails, the mechanistic approach
of Tool or the moody atmospherics of Pink Floyd will probably find
much to ruminate over here. I just hope they cheer up and inject a
little more sonic variation on the next album... - Neal Woodall
