-Z Records News

[Note: Last week's issue included a press release with a statement
from FireHouse guitarist saying the band canceled its appearance at
this coming weekend's Z Rock 06 festival in the UK. After the issue
went out, we started getting updates from Z Records on the situation.
Here are all the updates so far. - Tim]

FIREHOUSE RUMOUR - PLEASE READ (category: Breaking News!)

It is early morning here in England, here are the facts.......

FireHouse have not faxed ANY official notice to us regarding the Z
Rock show. Until that time the official line is that they are coming.

The facts are that........

a] FireHouse have already had their fee paid in FULL!
b] All flights are booked, paid for and still open.
c] Hotels are booked as is ground transportation.

FIREHOUSE HAVE NO REASON TO PULL ANYTHING!

We will provide proof supporting all the above to fans and other press
if need be. We have no agenda other than for FireHouse to play and
that is in their court if a problem exists. Watch the news page here
and at http://www.zrecords.net/ and http://www.myspace.com/zrockfest .

Rest Assured Z Rock 06 is going ahead, and as far as we are concerned
it is with FireHouse headlining. We will update everybody ASAP.

Z ROCK 06 - FIREHOUSE UPDATE

We are still awaiting a fax from FireHouse in which they state that
they have pulled their performance at Z Rock 06. For those wishing to
look into this more visit http://www.myspace.com/zrockfest for 100%
proof that FireHouse have indeed been paid their fee in full plus that
their flights are booked and paid for!

Z ROCK 06 PRESS RELEASE

It is with regret that we must announce that FireHouse have advised us
they they will not be boarding the flights booked to bring them to the
UK. Yet again we must stress that said flights are in place and are
non-refundable. In addition the band have received their fee in full.
We have made every effort to ensure FireHouse would have made the
trip.

Obviously the show must go on and the eight acts still partaking are
very enthusuatic and have extended their sets where required. The
bands have also made the following statements in relation to Z Rock 06
to stop the rumour merchants...

Tony Mills [TNT]: "In the light of the current FireHouse situation
(maybe it will change -- hopefully so) and having seen the comments
regarding TNT possibly pulling the Z show this week, I thought it only
right to drop this a note on the situation. As far as TNT are
concerned, we are booked to play the Z show and have contractually
agreed to do so. Some matters remain to be cleared up, though not
sufficient to prevent TNT's appearance. Following Scandinavian
commitments this week, TNT will land in the UK on the day of the show
as contracted."

Tony Jepson: "I'm really looking forward to playing Z-Rock 06 and
intend to have a lot of fun. The band are all fired up for this, and
the opportunity to play Z-Rock, coming so soon after the Thunder tour,
was the catalyst we needed to get back out on the road in our own
right. We'll be six shows in by the time we get to JB's, so I'm sure
we'll be firing on all cylinders. See you there."

AJ Federico [Snakeryder]: "I have my flight ticket and will land in
the UK on Wednesday, see you all at Z Rock 06."

Bob Catley: "As far as we are concerned there has never been any doubt
that we will be playing our three-piece acoustic set at Z Rock on
Sunday. Vince, Gavin and myself are looking forward to it very much,
we will definitely be there, we've even been paid up front! See you
all in Dudley! Cheers, Bob Catley"

Paul Uttley (Lost Weekend): "As far as we are concerned everything is
go, we are busy rehearsing our set, also there will be a limited
amount of the new album available so it is all getting quite
exciting."

Tim Manford (Dante Fox): "Z Rock takes place on the 24th September and
we will be there with every other band on the bill. We're really
looking forward to the day showcasing our new band members and our new
material. Hope to see you on the day."

The guys from Eden and Furyon where not available to make comment but
will be at the show!!!

To try and make up for the diappointment we have come up with the
following. Whilst we are not legally obliged to do anything we feel
that we should do something to try and ease the disappointment that
the valued supporters of our show will have. Z Rock 07 will be
announced on Sunday and we will give everyone who keeps their ticket
stub a 10% discount on next year's show. Details will be given out via
flyers.

-Biomechanical Record "Painkiller" With Original Priest Producer

Biomechanical are to record a cover version of "Painkiller" by Judas
Priest in October. It's to be produced by Chris Tsangarides who worked
on the 1990 original with Priest. The recording will happen over three
days at Tsangarides' own studio, the Ecology Rooms located on the
white cliffs of Dover. In his extensive career, Chris Tsangarides has
worked with some of rock and metal's biggest names, including Thin
Lizzy, Black Sabbath, Bruce Dickinson and Yngwie Malmsteen, as well as
producing the PAINKILLER album.

Biomechanical have been playing the song "Painkiller" live as an
encore for quite a while, and it's always been a favourite with their
growing audiences. The cover will be released on a limited edition re-
release of their second album, THE EMPIRES OF THE WORLDS. This hits
the shops on November 13. Jon K, a self confessed Priest fan tells of
his excitement:

"'Painkiller' where do I start?! Judas Priest -- Two words: Fucking
AWESOME! One of the most influential bands on the planet that have
helped to kick start metal! They've written incredible songs!
'Painkiller' crashed out of my speakers like a steam train and
flattened anything in its path!! When the song was first introduced to
the scene it blew everything out of the water -- it was an instant
classic and sure enough withstood the test of time. We're really glad
to be able to do homage to the original and I still can't believe that
we are going to record it with the man who produced the track in the
first place!"

The new version of THE EMPIRES OF THE WORLDS will also include the
video for the title track and the making of that video.

You can catch Biomechanical live at the Damnation Festival on October
15th. Check http://www.earache.com/ for more info.

Tomorrow's Eve - MIRROR OF CREATION 2 - GENESIS II

Three years after MIRROR OF CREATION, their last studio album,
Tomorrow's Eve continues the concept with MIRROR OF CREATION 2 -
GENESIS II. Both musically and lyrically, there are clear ties to the
first album, and a few questions that were left open by MIRROR OF
CREATION are answered on GENESIS II.

Musically Tomorrow's Eve perform classical progressive metal with an
emphasis on melodic vocal lines that remain very heavy at the same
time. The band don't fall into predictable patterns yet still produce
accessible songs, holding interesting details to discover over
repeated listens. In short: very heavy, very melodic, and very
accessible.

Story Premise:
A man wakes up in a dirty alley with no idea who he is. He is badly
hurt and taken to a hospital, but no one seems to be missing him, and
soon enough, everyone has given up on trying to find out more about
his identity -- everyone except for one doctor. For her own reasons,
she takes him in and tries to help him remember. Yet the more he
remembers, the less he wants to. As certain fragments of his past
finally return to him, he understands the he was no ordinary man, that
he grew up as part of an experiment which he himself then brought to a
bloody end... and the doctor who is taking care of him, who has fallen
in love with him and whom he has fallen in love with, may have been
involved.

Band Bio:
The success of their first album THE UNEXPECTED WORLD released by B.
Mind Records (Berlin), was overwhelming. Tomorrow's Eve garnered
international attention, radio play and THE UNEXPECTED WORLD was even
released in Russia, Belarus, the Ukraine and the Baltic through IROND
Records (Moscow). The very successful album MIRROR OF CREATION
followed in 2003. During this time, tensions within Tomorrow's Eve
were becoming unbearable and after the album was released, former
vocalist Peter and the rhythm section Ralph and Sascha left the group,
leaving Rainer Grund and Oliver Schwickert to fight it out. After a
few more lineup changes, Tom Diener and Chris Doerr joined the band
until Martin LeMar finally completed Tomorrow's Eve in 2004. Meanwhile
TE grew by playing tours with artists like Paul DiAnno, Ryo Okumoto
(Spock's Beard) and Nightingale. In 2006 a new label was found in Lion
Music (Finland) and the new material was recorded at SU2-Studios
(Germany) in June. Now they are back with an impressive concept album,
a sequel to MIRROR OF CREATION: MIRROR OF CREATION 2 - GENESIS II.

Tomorrow's Eve are:
Martin LeMar - vocals
Rainer Grund - guitars
Oliver Schwickert - keys
Chris Doerr - bass
Tom Diener – drums

Guests:
Jenny Klos (Cheeno) guest vocals on track 5 and 6
Vivien Lalu guest keys solo on track 6
Joshua Grund special guest on track 12

Track Listing:
01 - Man Without A Name (0:46)
02 - Amnesia (6:33)
03 - Pain (3:25)
04 - The Eve Suite (9:00)
I) A Gentle Light
II) Shelter And Hope
III) Days Turn Into Weeks
IV) Eve
05 - The Market Of Umbra (4:48)

Marcel Coenen - A LIVE TIME JOURNEY DVD

Recorded and filmed at January 28th 2006 in Weert, The Netherlands, at
"De Bosuil."

A LIVE TIME JOURNEY is the much anticipated live DVD from Marcel
Coenen (Sun Caged). The DVD is a live documentation of the live
performance to launch Marcel's second solo album COLOUR JOURNEY (2006
Lion Music) in his native Netherlands. The DVD sees a wealth of
musical talent travel from around the globe to perform the many
musical styles of COLOUR JOURNEY in the live arena.

Marcel's Comments:

Initial Idea & Preparation

"My second album, called COLOUR JOURNEY was released in January 2006
and has been receiving great reviews. To celebrate the release of
COLOUR JOURNEY, I planned a CD Release Party. The party had to be
something special, so the idea came about to make a live DVD, playing
the entire album live with almost all of the guest musicians who
appear on the COLOUR JOURNEY album.

"I had some overseas musicians working with me, so I had to think of a
plan to get them over for the show. I was happy that Mike Andersson
and Colleen Gray were available and more then happy to come over for
the show.

"Then I started planning the whole event. I made a set list containing
all songs from COLOUR JOURNEY, some songs from my first solo CD
GUITARTALK and some cool covers.

"I needed a second guitarist who was able to play twin lines with me
and had good rhythm guitar skills. Frank Schiphorst I knew very well,
as I had filled in as a guitarist for his own band, Symmetry, and I
knew he was a good choice for the job. Since I programmed most of the
keyboards on COLOUR JOURNEY I also needed a keyboard player who was
able to play with me. At first I contacted Rene Kroon (Sun caged) who
also plays on the song 'Patron Saint' on the COLOUR JOURNEY CD, but
Rene was dealing with some health issues so a replacement had to be
found. I contacted Rene Ubachs (from the Dutch band, Arabesque) and
was very happy that he could do the job. On all other instruments I
contacted all the players who also worked with me on the COLOUR
JOURNEY album. The musicians also learned some songs from my first
solo CD, and also some covers we played at the end of the show. The
singers all helped each other with harmony lines from their respective
songs.

"The first rehearsals we did were just with the drummers and second
guitarist, Frank. The first full rehearsal with everyone involved was
in the venue where the gig was taking place, the day before the show.
I noticed during these rehearsals that something special was
happening. Call it magic, but it seemed like all the musicians played
with each other for years. The chemistry was awesome during the
rehearsals and I knew it was becoming something really special.

"The singers took a different room and rehearsed their lines (and
harmony lines, helping each other learn the parts) in that room while
we were rehearsing the music on the stage. This was my first time
hearing songs like 'Moyra' and 'Inner Alchemy' being played by a real
drummer and bass player. What an awesome experience! I wish I had
recorded GUITARTALK that way."

The Day Of The Show

"The day started with another rehearsal on the stage, and while we
were rehearsing the people of the venue were preparing everything for
the show. Martin Verberk came in and started to install his audio
recording tools. Also the crew from LowLifeMedia came in and started
to plan the DVD shooting.

"The audio recording was BIG. 32 tracks totally used! With two drum
kits on stage, two keyboards, a bass stack, two guitar stacks and four
different singing mikes we had a huge recording going on.

"When the crowd came in and Colleen started doing her show I was
getting nervous. Was everything set up right?? Is nothing going to
break down? Will the camera's work properly? Will we play well? All
sorts of things started to go through my head, so I needed to take a
time for myself. I locked myself up in a small room for 15 minutes and
meditated to clear my mind and come to rest. When I was done
meditating it was time to hit the stage.

"When Colleen Gray announced me the adrenaline raised through my
veins... When I walked on stage and saw all the people who came to see
the show I was very happy, and I knew the show was going to become
something special.

"I never imagined so many people would come to see me, people from
Portugal, Sweden, Germany, Belgium, and off course from the
Netherlands. The crowd reacted very well to the show and the show
itself went pretty smooth (some technical issues appeared though, and
some little playing mistakes were made as well).

"I decided not to edit out all the mistakes, so what you get is a pure
registration of this evening like it was. You will hear some mistakes,
and you will notice some things not going so smooth, but it is LIVE,
with only two full days of rehearsing."

Thoughts On The Extras

"In my opinion a DVD is worth buying if it has some extra stuff as
well. I decided to include some cool footage. The Thailand show was
recorded in March 2006 and was of good quality, so I decided to
include some footage from that show. The behind the scenes material
was recorded during the preparation for the show, and is a cool add-
on. The covers were too great to leave them out, even if they are not
played too well, but the chemistry is there. The Hidden guitar solo is
a nice feature which people have to find (tip: scroll around on the
first page). The other extras are cool add-ons."

MOONFUDGE. The new album is the follow-up to 2003's PLECTRUMHEAD, and

"Foxy Lady."

crafted an album in MOONFUDGE that traverses the six-string super
highway with consummate ease.

MOONFUDGE was written between January 2004 and September 2005 and was
recorded in two sessions between March 2005 and October 2005. Mixing
took place from October 2005 to December 2005.

On the new material Edward comments, "It was a struggle to find
inspiration and come up with new instrumental material, hence the long
gap between this and PLECTRUMHEAD. Overall I think it has turned out
well and has a tighter and more compact sound and I feel that it is a
worthy follow-up and I know fans of quality guitar music will enjoy
it."

On the actual material, "'Big Screen Love Theme' is based around a
melody line I'd had for the last eight years and 'Trailblazer' goes
back to a riff I had in 1992/93 as does 'Hourglass' so never discount
riffs! 'Stanton's Stomp' is a reworking of a vocal song from my old
band Arch Stanton with all other material based on new ideas."

Brief Bio:
Inspired by the likes of Judas Priest and Van Halen, Edward Box
started playing guitar at the age of 14. Early influences included
Michael Schenker, George Lynch and Warren DeMartini before the
explosion of guitar in the late '80s caught his imagination. With Vai,
Satriani and Malmsteen firmly entrenched in his album collection, he
moved from his native Cumbria to the industrial climes of Newcastle
upon Tyne in the North East of England to study music where he is now
on the areas leading guitar teachers, in addition Ed also plays in the
band Vendetta.

-Cult Of Luna Film New Video

Swedish art-noise collective Cult Of Luna have filmed a video for the
"Back To Chapel Town," a track that features on their latest album out
on Earache Records SOMEWHERE ALONG THE HIGHWAY. Filmed in Umea near
where the band are from, the video took five days to make but much
longer to plan...

Johannes Persson and Erik Olofsson came up with the concept and
directed the video themselves. "It's about a dude," says Johannes
trying to explain, "a man waking up in a world he doesn't know, he
knows nothing of his past or where he is, people treat him like air or
are very suspicious of him."

When asked how he felt about filming his own video Johannes says "It
took fucking ages to arrange, we shot for five days and I've never
felt so out of my element, but it was fun, and definitely something I
would like to do more in the future."

The video mimicks the dark graphic feel of the album, and was even
shot in the same kind of colour as the artwork on SOMEWHERE ALONG THE
HIGHWAY.

The video is due to be finished by the end of September. Check

-Kylesa Unveils Artwork, Track Listing, Music From New Album Due Out
On Halloween

Savannah, GA-based sludge rockers Kylesa have revealed artwork, track
listing, and a song from the band's forthcoming record, TIME WILL FUSE
ITS WORTH. Snippets of the foldout artwork, which was constructed by
Kylesa guitarist/vocalist Laura Pleasants, can been seen at
http://prostheticrecords.com/kylesa/cover.html , and links are also
provided to both an MP3 and a video for the album's fourth track,
"Where The Horizon Unfolds."

Prior to departing for the band's current European tour, Kylesa met up
with director Tony Costello of SSD Films to shoot footage for what
would become the video for "Where The Horizon Unfolds," which mixes
psychedelic imagery with the track's haunting, building atmosphere.
Marking the debuts of drummers Jeff Porter and Carl McGinley, TIME
WILL FUSE ITS WORTH will see an October 31 release date through
Prosthetic Records (a day earlier in European territories).

"When we first started the band, we had planned on having two drummers
but it didn't work out, so now it feels like everything is coming
together," Pleasants previously said. "There is definitely a new level
of intensity to Kylesa now. Since the new lineup has gotten together
we have felt the strongest creative spark yet."

10/15 - Utrecht, Holland

"...it's fiery, bottom-heavy and lethal in large doses; every
gloriously foul thing a blend of crust, metal and Southern swamp water
should be... If Kylesa's sludgy, metallic assault really is the stuff
'next big things' are made of, this is one bandwagon we're happy to be
jumping." - Alternative Press

"Somewhere in the bowels of Savannah, Georgia, an eight-legged, three-
cocked monster is having its way with the locals, forcing them to
perform unspeakable acts in the name of good citizenship and the
advancement of culture. Its name is Kylesa, and it is the new
standard-bearer for sludge-mongering and crust-punkery in a section of
the country that has already produced more than its fair share of
dirty noise." - Decibel

"...an evocative dystopia–and one hell of a metal album. ...MIDDLE
COURSE delivers more forearm smashes than technical finesse and has
the same untamed, primal aggressiveness and psychedelic tinges of the
first couple of Black Sabbath albums." - Revolver

"Kylesa's songs are full of sudden tempo shifts, raw-throated lyrics
and sludgy guitar parts borrowed from the slower end of the heavy-
metal spectrum. TO WALK A MIDDLE COURSE, the band's second full-length
album, is not only engrossing but satisfying: the riffs alternately
gallop and ooze, and soon the apocalyptic, stream-of-consciousness
lyrics start to make a dreamy sort of sense." - New York Times

"Play this loud and be prepared with dry wall compound because your
walls will not know what hit them." - Caustic Truths

"Easily one of the more refreshing takes on heavy music as of late, TO
WALK A MIDDLE COURSE leaves its mark..." - Outburn

-Angtoria Launch E-Card!

Sarah Jezebel Deva and Chris Rehn started talking about forming a band
together back in 2002. A band that would have an orchestral movie
score atmosphere, but more focused towards metal and with a proper
line up to be able to tour. So began Chris writing the songs and Sarah
working on lyrics for a demo by a band later to be called Angtoria.

Chris recorded songs at Virtual Symphony Studios, in association with
his brother Tommy, and in early July 2004 Sarah went to Sweden to
record the vocals. During the recording Chris asked his brother Tommy
to join the band, and Angtoria was born.

In November 2005 Angtoria started recording their debut album entitled
GOD HAS A PLAN FOR US ALL at Sidelake Studios Sundsvall in Sweden.

Guest appearances from Dave Pybus (Cradle Of Filth), Aaron Stainthorpe
(My Dying Bride), Rikard Andersson (Space Odyssey, Majestic, Time
Requiem), Martin Hδggstrφm (Moahni Moahna/Zool) can be found on the
album which will be released on Listenable Records in the US on
October 17th, 2006.

"Ethereal, interesting and different. Finally something with an
identity."
Josh Silver - Type O Negative

"Glittering symphonic metal with vocals beamed straight down from

the band's MySpace page ( http://myspace.com/yearofdesolation ) and
the track appears on the Prosthetic Records sampler packaged with the

and label," guitarist John Hehman previously said. "We've got plenty
to offer and so do they. When the self-titled album drops, everyone's

-This week I busted out my copy of W.A.S.P.'s HEADLESS CHILDREN
reissue from 1998, and I've been cranking it in the car to and from
work each morning. Man, this is a great album. The really curious
thing about it to me, though, is that the reissue has one of the
coolest bonus tracks ever, and one of the lamest bonus tracks ever.
The non-album studio track "War Cry," originally a B-side to "The Real
Me," is a killer metal song that bridges THE HEADLESS CHILDREN and
1992's THE CRIMSON IDOL, and is probably one of my fave W.A.S.P. tunes
ever. And then there's a terrible live version of "Blind In Texas,"
recorded in the UK in 1989 and originally released as a B-side to
"Forever Free." This is horr-i-ble. And it's not even the whole song
-- it starts at the mid-song bass-driven breakdown part (you know, the
"Boy I think I'll have another one of these ... whaddya mean you got
no more liquor?!" part) and goes into an unending audience sing-along
where some dude named Andy got up on stage with the band. I guess some
folks might find it funny...once...but it has ZERO relistenability.
(Is that a word?) Damn fine album though.

-I might have to give up the ghost here... The new Iron Maiden snuck
out on me last week -- I had *no* idea a new disc was imminent, and
then I saw it listed in the Circuit City ad of all places. Doh! And
now this week I get a promo copy of the new Skid Row album REVOLUTIONS
PER MINUTE in the mail, and I again had *no* clue a new album was due.
I also missed the deadline to get my Top 10 list into issue #99 of
Brave Words & Bloody Knuckles magazine, and I haven't been to a single
show all year. Can you tell I've been busy at work and being a daddy,
with very little free time to spend surfing for music news??!!??
Times, they change...

-Now in my current playlist: Skid Row - REVOLUTIONS PER MINUTE (SPV),
Tomorrow's Eve - MIRROR OF CREATION 2 - GENESIS II (Lion Music),
A.C.T. - SILENCE (Inside Out Music America).
