-Europe To Release SECRET SOCIETY Via Sanctuary Records On November
7th, 2006
Cover Art Created By Legendary Artist Storm Thorgerson
Few songs in the history of hard rock can whip up a concert frenzy
like "The Final Countdown." And Europe, the composers of that anthemic
classic, are back for more with a brand new album, SECRET SOCIETY, out
November 7th, via Sanctuary Records.
With their original lineup -- singer Joey Tempest, guitarist John
Norum, bassist John Leven, keyboardist Mic Michaeli, and drummer Ian
Haugland -- back in place, Europe reunited in the early 21st century,
before issuing their first studio album in thirteen years, START FROM
THE DARK, in 2004.
As evidenced by such standout tracks as the Led Zeppelin-esque album
opening title track and the lead-off single, "Always The Pretenders,"
SECRET SOCIETY is undeniably edgier than previous releases. Says Joey
Tempest "It feels like we have finally arrived. Together we have
written some of our best lyrics and songs. We can't wait to play the
material live."
The reunion has proven to not be a mere one-off, as the group opted to
entirely self-produce SECRET SOCIETY themselves, while the album was
mixed by Stefan Glaumann (Rammstein, Within Temptation) and mastered
by George Marino (Velvet Revolver, U2).
Also featured is the unmistakable album cover art of Storm Thorgerson.
As a member of the design studio Hipgnosis, Storm worked on all the
classic album covers by Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and Peter Gabriel, to
name just a few. Guitarist John Norum reminisces: "Growing up, my
favorite covers were done by this guy."
Storm has recently created the CD artwork for not only Europe but
bands such as The Mars Volta and Muse. You can view the cover art for
SECRET SOCIETY by pasting the following URL in your web browser:
http://www.europetheband.com/discography/album/SSbig.jpg
Europe has also committed to giving the album a major push via
worldwide touring. Promises Norum, "We will tour Scandinavia before
Christmas and the rest of Europe in the beginning of the New Year.
After that, we are aiming to do some dates in the UK. US and Asia and
play the summer festivals all over Europe next summer."

-Vixen Update
The Queens of Metal ... the Female Bon Jovi ... however you have heard
Vixen described, one of the things you will definitely know is that
they were one of the most successful female rock bands in the world.
Massive hits like "Edge Of A Broken Heart" and "Love Is A Killer"
heralded their position in the rock charts, and made them a permanent
fixture on all the most popular rock compilation albums of the '90s.
Vixen was founded in Minnesota by Jan Kuehnemund and brought to Los
Angeles in the mid '80s where they continued to gig and build up an
impressive following ... finally cracking the big time in the late
'80s. Two immense albums followed, VIXEN and REV IT UP, on their
record deal with EMI, and the band toured constantly, including some
prestigious supports to the Scorpions and Bon Jovi amongst others.
The band called it a day in 1991, although Jan reformed the band in
2001 to undertake the "Voices Of Metal" tour with Vince Neil of Motley
Crue fame. A few problems beset the band, not least the fact that the
lineup changed completely mid-tour. Once sorted though, this lineup
remained strong and is the same line up that has just recorded their
new studio album, the follow-up to REV IT UP, called LIVE AND LEARN.
Whilst recording the new album, the band took a trip over to Europe,
to give the fans a chance to not only see the classic songs performed,
but also to gauge how the fans would accept the new songs ... the
result, a resounding success, which culminated in the recording of the
bands first live album and DVD at their stage headlining show at the
Sweden Rock Festival in 2005. This live album is due for release in
the US by Sony/BMG on July 11th, and in Europe later in the year.
LIVE AND LEARN will be released by Demolition Records on October 30th
2006, and will be pre-empted by a tour that encompasses the US, and
Europe, including a return to some of the venues that the band graced
the stages of in 2005.
Vixen is:
Jan Kuehnemund - Lead Guitar
Jenna Sanz-Agero - Vocals
Lynn Louise Lowrey - Bass
Kat Kraft - Drums
You can find more information at the band's Web site

-"Run For Cover: The Art Of Derek Riggs"
With Iron Maiden proving themselves hands-down the hottest metal band
on the planet with their killer new studio album A MATTER OF LIFE AND
DEATH, what better time to commemorate all things Maiden, than with an
art book celebrating the creator of Eddie?
"Run For Cover: The Art Of Derek Riggs" is a full color explosion of
Eddie in your face. Iron Maiden's beloved neon monster is quite
possibly the most beloved and recognized character rock 'n' roll has
ever witnessed. And in Iron Maiden lore, Eddie has been there from the
beginning, helping make Maiden the epic metal juggernaut they have
become. In "Run For Cover," heavy metal's preeminent book man Martin
Popoff coaxes the life story out of Eddie's reclusive creator, with
Iron Maiden manager Rod Smallwood -- the prime source of ideas for
Eddie outside of Derek himself -- also adding his twist on the tale.
But "Run For Cover" doesn't stop there. We also see Derek's work
before Maiden, as well as his art for the likes of Gamma Ray and
Stratovarius, all the while Derek explaining the often esoteric
meanings behind the art, his techniques, as well as the battles with
his health that have often threatened to grind his output to a halt.
"Run For Cover" is presented as a 180-page, full color, large format,
top quality art book, sporting approximately 200 graphics, some
unpublished, some unfinished, many pristine originals from the Iron
Maiden vaults, thanks to the full cooperation of Smallwood and his
charges. In addition, Riggs has painted a stunning new Eddie to grace
the cover.
The book is offered in two formats: 1) trade paperback; and 2) hard
cover, signed by Derek Riggs, individually numbered, limited to 1,500
copies.

-Experience The Power That Is ... Violent Storm
Founded by world-renowned bassist Mick Cervino (who has on G3 2003
tour; as well as with Yngwie Malmsteen and Ritchie Blackmore), Violent
Storm unleashes a sonic barrage of stunning vocals, ripping guitars,
relentless bass, and pounding drums, anchored around solid songwriting
you just can't forget!
The driving rhythms and compelling melodies of these songs stay in
your mind, inviting a deeper experience with each repeated listening.
Mick's decision to create a band requiring a unique blend of musical
talent and raw aggression led him to audition musicians from around
the world, and the results of that search can be heard in the soaring
vocals of Matt Reardon, and the monster drumming of Mike Sorrentino.
Violent Storm has created a sound that displays musical depth at the
same time it packs a serious hard-rock punch.
The new album, STORM WARNING has been Executive Produced by K.K.
Downing of Judas Priest, with his long fantastic career in the Rock
industry, K.K. has worked closely with Mick and has contributed his
inimitable guitar playing on two of the tracks on the album, in
addition to his production skills.
Mick Cervino (bass, guitars, rhythm guitar, backing vocals, guitar
synth): Mick has played with some of the best musicians in the
business, including legendary guitarists Ritchie Blackmore
(Blackmore's Night 1997-2000 in Japan, Europe, USA, and UK), and
Yngwie Malmsteen. Performing in every corner of the globe, including
at Europe's largest rock festivals on the center stage with the likes
of Iron Maiden, Dream Theater, Dio, Slayer, HammerFall and Motley Crue
to name just a few.
Mick started playing guitar at age 7, and studied classical guitar and
music theory at the Conservatorio Juan Jose Castro in Buenos Aires,
Argentina, his birthplace. He took up the bass at age 14 (after
discovering Ritchie Blackmore) and became very interested in baroque
and classical music, and particularly the combination of classical
with hard rock. He has been playing professionally since age 16,
touring Argentina extensively backing up famous local artists.
In addition to a critically acclaimed solo album titled Ostinato, Mick
has recorded with such artists as Victor Heredia (Phillips), Banana
(EMI), and Candela (RCA). With UK jazz-rock band One Hand Clapping, he
recorded the No. 4 indie single "The Rich Get Rich."
Mike Sorrentino (drums): Mike has recorded and toured with the
legendary Ritchie Blackmore and with the gold-record-selling classic
rock band Zebra. He has performed for a number of years with New York
rock band Kid Gloves (appearing with such major bands as Bad Company,
E.L.O., Zebra, and Keanu Reeves).
Matt Reardon (lead vocals): Hailing from the USA, his roots are in
metal, grunge and Rock and Roll of today. Matt's deep and
unadulterated raw powerful baritone vocals can be heard on over 60
soundtracks to date worldwide. He has also toured in Europe with his
former band as guests for acts such as Queensryche, Saxon, In Extremo
and Steven Adler of Guns N' Roses.
In addition to K.K. Downing, who played guitar on the tracks "War No
More" and "Deceiver," other guitar duties are taken up by Yngwie
Malmsteen, who contributed to the tracks "Fire In The Unknown" and
"Pain Is For Me." The album was also mixed by world renowned producer
Roy Z.

-Voivod Update
Official Site: http://www.voivod.com/
Voivod, who just released their 14th album KATORZ, updates their fans
on upcoming reissues and the much anticipated DVOD-2 set. Drummer
Michel "Away" Langevin has the following update:
"Dear Voivodians, here's what we have been up to: (vocalist Denis)
Snake (Belanger) and I recently completed a whirlwind press trip of
six countries arranged by our Euro label Nuclear Blast. We just got
back from hanging out with Jason (Newsted, bassist) in L.A. where The
End Records held a CD release party July 24th at the Rok Bar. We also
jammed one night at Jason's place! He has recently produced an
incredible amount of very detailed paintings. I must say that I was
really impressed with his artwork. We then headed back to Montreal for
a special CBC radio, two hour broadcast. We had some calls from Max
(Cavalera) from Soulfly and Andreas (Kisser) from Sepultura, then were
taken to a CBC soundstage where a string quartet performed a Voivod
medley orchestrated by our friend Ram. Incredible! Right after we held
our Montreal release party and celebrated three years of hard work
finally immortalized on CD. Thank you again, Piggy! As for now, I am
putting together more art and Iron Gang demos for the Sanctuary re-
release of the Noise catalogue. Also, The End will re-release ANGEL
RAT and THE OUTER LIMITS. DVOD-2, featuring the power trio years is
under construction, to come out soon. My art book is finished and will
also be released soon, on Troubleman Unlimited. Look for our new merch
store at Bandmerch.com where we will also be adding prints of my art.
In other news we were asked by the makers of the Guitar Hero Game if
we would let them use a song for GH2, so after some thought we could
see no wrong in having two million kids learn Piggy's riff on a
Playstation! Thanks to everyone who continues to work on and support
our music. Away"
And Voivod singer Denis "Snake" Belanger shares his own update:
"Allo everyone, Here's my news: Doing well, relaxing, still doing a
lot of interviews. A few weeks ago I went to our hometown Jonquiere to
see my parents. While I was there I did a full day of promotion
covering the whole Morgoth area Saguenay, Lac St-Jean. Then my
girlfriend and I and a bunch of friends went camping for a couple of
days. It was great! Shooting fireworks in the sky by the lake,
cooking
hot-dogs on the open fire, and maybe a few beers. Great outdoor hang-
over also. This is a good story. At Piggy's funeral last year, I
brought my guitar for people to sign it, then we went to the river and
tried to burn it, (didn't work) to finally throw the guitar off the
bridge as a symbolic memoriam to Piggy... Remember? Well apparently
three months ago, a teacher who lives in Chicoutimi (a few miles down
the river) found the guitar. Looking at it, he didn't know what this
was all about. All the signatures, the burn marks, and after a full
winter, I guess the guitar was in pretty bad shape. So he kept it, and
brought it to school wondering if students could possibly explain the
wrecked guitar. One metal dude raised his hand and said I know what it
is. It's a tribute to Piggy, Voivod's guitar player who died last
year. The class went Ahhh! I hope the guy still has it. It's certainly
a keeper. More news soon. - Snake"
In other Voivod news, the band and music fans worldwide took part in
the gala launch of the band's 14th album KATORZ (The End Records). See
http://www.bandeapart.fm/ for more.
The 2-hour show aired live on http://www.bandeapart.fm/ and on Sirius
satellite radio (channel 93).
The special event featured interviews with band members Michel "Away"
Langevin and Denis "Snake" Belanger in the studio and bassist Jason
"Jasonic" Newsted on the phone from Los Angeles. The event -- in
French -- also included discussions of the new album, the entire album
played live and friends and family paying homage to fallen Voivod
guitarist Denis "Piggy" D'Amour. There was also a unique classical
arrangement of some of the band's most unique tracks. For the full
broadcast, go here: http://www.bandeapart.fm/voivod .
Also, the band plans to release a deluxe vinyl version of KATORZ in
November via The End Records. The release will come in color vinyl and
include special artwork and packaging designed by Voivod artist/
drummer Michel "Away" Langevin. The release will be limited to 1,000
copies and sold exclusively through The End Records' mail order. There
will be a pre-order for the LP.

-Wendy O. Williams And The Plasmatics - 10 YEARS OF REVOLUTIONARY ROCK
& ROLL Available On DVD November 21, 2006 Through MVD Visual
MVD Visual by exclusive arrangement with Pandemonium Merchandising is
pleased to announce the home viewing release of Wendy O. Williams &
The Plasmatics - 10 YEARS OF REVOLUTIONARY ROCK & ROLL for North
American distribution on DVD.
In the words of Chris Knowles of Classic Rock Magazine, they were "THE
RAMONES TIMES TEN. THE CLASH TIMES TEN. THE SEX PISTOLS TIMES TEN."
Banned in London, busted in Cleveland and Milwaukee, the legendary
Wendy O. Williams (aka "Queen Of Shock Rock", "Queen Of Punk,"
"Dominatrix Of The Decibels," and "High Priestess Of Metal") and the
Plasmatics, the band of changing musicians built around her,
revolutionized American culture and music creating a seismic shock
wave still being felt today. "Way more than a rock band," as John Levy
said in a recent interview on VH1, Wendy O. Williams and the
Plasmatics "were a phenomenon." They introduced the mohawk to mass
American culture, fused punk and metal when these groups despised each
other and produced stage shows which included the chainsawing of
guitars and the blowing up of full size cars that Roman Kozak of
Billboard called "The absolute limit of what can be accomplished in
rock and roll theatrics" and have yet to be equalled today.
First performing in 1978, by 1981 they were introduced by Tom Snyder
on his late night TV show as the "greatest punk band in the world." By
1982 their next album, whose companion video had the fearless Williams
driving a school bus through a wall of TVs, climbing to the roof and
jumping off before it blew up, was described by the L.A. Times as the
"best slice of heavy metal since the last AC/DC album." The following
album, produced by Gene Simmons of Kiss (and featuring Ace Frehley,
Paul Stanley and others) got Williams a nomination as "Best Female
Rock Vocalist Of The Year" and an accompanying video had her going
from a moving car to an airplane on a rope ladder without a safety
harness.
Here for the first time in over three hours of material, featuring a
two-hour "rockumentary" including live and other footage never
released before, as well as an additional hour of live and video
performance footage, is the story of the full 10 jaw-dropping years,
the eight studio albums, arrests, controversy, triumphs and
challenges, plus interviews with critics, historians, band and crew
members most of it never seen before. This DVD shows why Wendy O.
Williams and the Plasmatics were an absolute one of a kind, and why in
the words of rock critic and historian Malcolm Dome Wendy was
completely "in a league on her own."
"Every major female performer in the rock or metal sphere over the
last 15 years has carried (some part of) Wendy's philosophy within
them." - Malcolm Dome, Rock Critic and Historian
"Wendy was the patron saint of the Riot Grrrl Movement. That
archetype...comes directly from Wendy." - Chris Knowles, Classic Rock
Magazine

-Hirax To Enter Recording Studio For New Label's Compilation SPEED
KILLS...AGAIN; US Tour In November
LOS ANGELES -- Thrash metal icons Hirax will enter the studio in
October to record the first new material since 2004's THE NEW AGE OF
TERROR.
The band is scheduled to begin recording four new tracks on October 13
at Shiva Industries Studio in Santa Ana, California. John Haddad will
produce the tracks "Lucifer's Inferno" and "City Of The Dead" for the
compilation SPEED KILLS...AGAIN, to be released on the new label,
Heavy Artillery, a subsidiary of Punk Core Records. The other two
tracks, "Summon The Death Dealers" and "Crown Of Thorns," will
tentatively be released on limited edition vinyl through Black Devil
Records. The compilation will also feature two songs each from
Merciless Death, Warbringer, Violator, Enforcer, Meltdown, and Avenger
Of Blood.
"Hirax has never been a conventional metal band," said vocalist Katon
W. De Pena. "We realize the importance of the younger bands and we
have always reached out to them the same as the older metal heads.
Punk Core Records started this subsidiary label so that they could
release thrash metal bands. They really support underground music.
Their Punk Core division has released great acts such as The
Causalities, The Virus, and Lower Class Brats."
This will be the first studio recording with recent additions Lance
Harrison (lead guitar), Steve Harrison (bass), and Fabrico Ravelli
(drums) -- joining Hirax founding member vocalist Katon W. De Pena and
lead guitarist Glenn Rogers, who has just received an endorsement from
Jackson Guitars.
Hirax plan to record their full-length record, ASSASSINS OF WAR,
beginning in early 2007. The band recently sold out of the first
pressing of its first DVD, THRASH TILL DEATH.
Following a four-date tour of Mexico, Hirax's first-ever US tour will
begin in Philadelphia on November 10.
"We are fired up to do these upcoming tour dates!" said De Pena. "This
is the first time in Hirax history that we will be doing an extended
tour. We have played New York and Boston before and the fans TOTALLY
KICK ASS! They are very loud. We are looking forward to playing for
them again. We will be playing some new songs from our upcoming album,
ASSASSINS OF WAR, for the first time live as well as Hirax classics.
The band is looking forward to tear it up for the East Coast
thrashers."

2006 here in the US.
The follow-up to 2004's MINDCRIMES was recorded and mixed at Studio
Fredman in Gothenburg, Sweden by Fredrik Nordstrφm and Patrick J.
Sten. The mastering was done by Peter In De Betou at Tailor Maid
Studio. The album has 12 tracks and Alain Trιhard designed the cover
artwork.
"This band is all killer and no filler right off the bat. These guys
show that Thrash isn't dead."

"An intoxicating display of flowing melodic death metal that takes on
an identity of its own, failing to ponder to the current melodic death
sound that runs rampant. With a two-pronged vocal attack that melds
Alice In Chains-like dramatics (oh yes!) and traditional growls,
Lyzanxia easily distances itself from its contemporaries."

appearing alongside Some Girls and Modern Life Is War, the domestic
dates will be the first batch of touring plans Stateside after
returning from the band's current tour throughout Europe. The live

by Kylesa guitarist/vocalist Laura Pleasants, can been seen at
http://prostheticrecords.com/kylesa/cover.html , and links are also
provided to both an MP3 and a video for the album's fourth track,
"Where The Horizon Unfolds." Prior to departing for the band's current
European tour, Kylesa met up with director Tony Costello of SSD Films
to shoot footage for what would become the video for "Where The
Horizon Unfolds," which mixes psychedelic imagery with the track's
haunting, building atmosphere. Marking the debuts of drummers Jeff
Porter and Carl McGinley, TIME WILL FUSE ITS WORTH will see an October
31 release date through Prosthetic Records (a day earlier in European
territories).
"When we first started the band, we had planned on having two drummers
but it didn't work out, so now it feels like everything is coming
together," Pleasants previously said. "There is definitely a new level
of intensity to Kylesa now. Since the new lineup has gotten together
we have felt the strongest creative spark yet."

"...it's fiery, bottom-heavy and lethal in large doses; every
gloriously foul thing a blend of crust, metal and Southern swamp water

'next big things' are made of, this is one bandwagon we're happy to be
jumping." - Alternative Press
"Somewhere in the bowels of Savannah, Georgia, an eight-legged, three-
cocked monster is having its way with the locals, forcing them to
perform unspeakable acts in the name of good citizenship and the
advancement of culture. Its name is Kylesa, and it is the new
standard-bearer for sludge-mongering and crust-punkery in a section of
the country that has already produced more than its fair share of
dirty noise." - Decibel
"...an evocative dystopiaand one hell of a metal album... MIDDLE

the same untamed, primal aggressiveness and psychedelic tinges of the
first couple of Black Sabbath albums." - Revolver
"Kylesa's songs are full of sudden tempo shifts, raw-throated lyrics
and sludgy guitar parts borrowed from the slower end of the heavy-
metal spectrum. TO WALK A MIDDLE COURSE, the band's second full-length
album, is not only engrossing but satisfying: the riffs alternately
gallop and ooze, and soon the apocalyptic, stream-of-consciousness
lyrics start to make a dreamy sort of sense." - New York Times

-HourCast To Tour With Godsmack And Breaking Benjamin, Beginning
October 20th And Running Through November 21st
In perhaps the ultimate example of "taking care of your own," rockers
Godsmack will be taking out fellow Boston, Massachusetts residents
HourCast, on a month's worth of arena dates.
Touring in support of their just-released debut full length, STATE OF
DISGRACE, the group -- which is comprised of Patrick McBride: vocals,
David Henriquez: guitars, David Sullivan: bass, and Jerry Clews: drums
-- should have no problem gaining a legion of new fans with their
tough, industrial metal sound.
"I think I'm speaking for all of us when I say that we are honored to
be keeping such company on this tour," explains frontman McBride.
"Godsmack wrote the book on how a band can bust their ass and make it
happen. When you speak about legendary east coast hard rock...it's
Aerosmith and Godsmack. Period. And Breaking Benjamin? Their songs
have been ringing in my head for the last two years...great band,
great songwriters. We are ecstatic to have this opportunity to play in
front of these bands and it is our intention to kill it each and every
night, and inspire their fans with our music...the way they inspired
us."
Released via the Alkamedia label, STATE OF DISGRACE is fast
establishing HourCast as one of the most-talked about new metal bands
to hit the scene, as their video for the track "Freeze" is already
creating a buzz on video outlets coast to coast.
Also, HourCast's song "Sakarra" from STATE OF DISGRACE has been added
to the soundtrack for the latest installment in the "Saw" movie
series..."Saw III."
"All of us in HourCast are really pleased to have our music featured
on the 'Saw III' Soundtrack. We loved the first movie and the sequel.
I think our music is a perfect fit to the vision of this movie,"
states Patrick McBride.
The movie and the soundtrack will be released THIS HALLOWEEN.

-Taiwanese Black Betal Masters Chthonic To Release Fourth Album
SAN FRANCISCO -- Taiwan's biggest metal export, the symphonic black
metal band Chthonic, will release its fourth album, SEEDIQBALE, on
October 3 through Down Port Music/RED.
The weepy sounds of the er-hu, a two-string violin that dates back to
Tang dynasty (618-907), gives Chthonic's music an ethnic flare while
adding another eerie layer to the band's sounds of strife and tragedy.
"The Oriental two-string Violin is a common traditional instrument in
many Eastern Asian countries like Taiwan, Korea, China, Hong-Kong, and
Singapore," said vocalist Freddy. "What is special about it is its
plaintive, sad tone. I decided to learn from a traditional musician
and started to play it in Chthonic's music."
Chthonic has stirred up controversy in the past with its strong
Taiwanese pro-independence stance, which has been the focus of much of
the band's past material. In keeping with its culturally-inspired
concepts, SEEDIQBALE reaches further back into Taiwanese history to
the legend of the Seediq and its struggle with Japan over land and
religion.
Like two of the band's previous albums, SEEDIQBALE was recorded at
Borsing Recordings in Denmark. "When Chthonic was formed in 1996,
there was no extreme metal scene in Taiwan, not to mention the studios
capable of producing this kind of music," said Freddy. "So when we
were prepared for our first album, we compared some of the black metal
albums we had and chose Illdisposed's album, because we liked its
recording quality. Then we hooked up with the studio that recorded
that album and became good friends with the boss, Jan Borsing. He has
been working with us since then, including in some big live concerts
in Taipei as our sound engineer."
Hailing from a country with a little-known metal scene, Chthonic has
gained national attention in its native land where it was awarded
"Best Rock Group" at the 14th Annual Golden Melody Awards, the Eastern
Asian equivalent of a Grammy. The award was presented to the band by
none other than the country's President Chen Shui-bian. "Music is more
powerful, more moving than politicians," the President said before the
band joined him on stage.
The group capped off that momentous year by playing the annual New
Year's Eve live, nationally broadcasted concert in front of
President's Hall and the release of the band's Mandarin theme for the
21st Century Fox Taiwan release of "Freddy Vs. Jason."
Chthnonic's previous albums WHERE THE ANCESTORS' SOULS GATHERED, 9TH
EMPYREAN, and RELENTLESS RECURRENCE, have been recorded in both
Mandarin and English.
The group made its United States debut at the 2002 Metal Meltdown
festival and returned that year for a performance at the Milwaukee
Metalfest.
"My favorite find of the year was Chthonic from Taiwan. Tightly
executing vigorous and beautiful black metal, lead singer Freddy
played an Oriental two-string violin." -- Illinois Entertainer

-Layne Staley Book Being Made Into A Movie!
ARTS Publications announces that Argentinean Journalist/Author Adriana
Rubio has been contacted by Writer/Director Eric Moyer from
Philadelphia to turn her latest published book, titled "Layne Staley:
Get Born Again" into a movie.
This book has a very profound message related to the life and death of
the treasured and talented Alice In Chains rock singer, Layne Staley,
who sadly died on April 5th, 2002 of a heroin overdose. It includes,
in full version, the last interview of Staley, revealing to Author
Rubio the harsh truth behind heroin addiction. He gave Rubio his
blessing to tell the truth on how his last living months were, in
hopes that someday people don't do drugs and can understand how
painful the every day living of a drug addict is. Although Staley
didn't like much talking to journalists, he finally made his sad
statement and, Adriana Rubio was the only one from the media who spoke
with him just before his death.
Writer/Director Eric Moyer is in the process of writing the first
draft of the script. Moyer fully understands the subject and will work
in cooperation with Rubio in highlighting Layne Staley's human side
from above the rock star.
Eric Moyer's Statement
"I am determined to make this film about Layne Staley, not only to
celebrate his life and talent, but to warn others through his
compelling story that heroin will kill you...no matter who you are.
"Adriana Rubio's book 'Get Born Again' reached out to me in many ways.
I was initially drawn to the material as an Alice In Chains and Mad
Season fan, but thanks to Adriana, I left the book understanding Layne
as person that we can all relate to. Our lives are surrounded by
addiction, in one form or another, but unfortunately, most choose not
to see it. Hopefully, this book will open their eyes."

fact that these guys know exactly what it takes to make a brutal
record, bolting together a variety of styles to create a fearsomely
deranged sound." Metal Hammer
"Metalcore, my arse. There are no cop-out, radio-friendly choruses
here nor any concession to mainstream appeal. TTEOTD are a death metal

-The Black-Sabbath.com mailing list Pilgrims Of Sabbocracy reported a
rumor from Madrid-based webzine Rafabasa, where Tony Iommi, Geezer
Butler, Bill Ward, and Ronnie James Dio will supposedly reunite "for a
number of festival apperances next summer" -- as Heaven & Hell, not as
Black Sabbath, supposedly due to "legal reasons" -- and play songs
from the Dio-era Sabbath albums HEAVEN AND HELL, MOB RULES, and
DEHUMANIZER. (Earlier this year Dio and Iommi were working on two new
songs together, for possible inclusion on an upcoming box set called
BLACK SABBATH: THE DIO YEARS.) Black-Sabbath.com then indicated it
hadreceived word from "an official source" that there really are no
"legal reasons" why the Dio/Iommi/Butler/Ward lineup couldn't use the
name Black Sabbath, as Iommi owns it, so going with Heaven & Hell
instead must simply be an "artistic choice." Stay tuned.

-I wanted to thank everyone who sent well wishes and congratulations
to me and my fiancee. I greatly appreciate all of the kind words.
-So here is a quick review of Kamelot and Epica, which I had the
pleasure to see on September 30 at The Pearl Room in Mokena, IL.
From what I am told, Epica pretty much duplicated their set from
ProgPower VII although I can't confirm as we showed up halfway through
their set.
Most of you know I am a total mark for Kamelot, especially the
incredible voice of Roy Khan. Kamelot played close to two hours and to
my surprise played almost the entire THE BLACK HALO album minus three
or four songs. This was welcomed as it is a fabulous release. Roy has
incredible stage presence, his facial expressions and body language
emphasizes the emotion that pours out in his voice. I apologize for
not having a set list as I was too busy enjoying the show to write
anything down. As picky as I am about the sound I was fairly pleased!
The drums were audible but not overbearing. The guitars were right up
front and every time Mari came out to sing she could be clearly heard.
Roy's voice was a little buried in during the first few songs but then
leveled out for the remainder of the show.
Here are some quick highlights of their set:
...Roy performed "Epilogue" -- the Japanese bonus track on THE BLACK
HALO -- as a thank you to all of the fans around the world. He sang
the song beautifully accompanied by keyboardist Oliver Palotai.
...Simone came out to sing "The Haunting" and the crowed loved it.
...Mari sounds as beautiful live as she does on the records... I
actually like her voice better than Simone's.
...Sean Tibbets did a great job filling in for Glen Barry (whom was at
home with his wife who is expecting their second child). He was
bouncing all over the stage and was very enthusiastic.
...Casey Grillo is a machine on the drums -- his timing and meter are
both impeccable.
...A mosh pit almost broke out in the beginning of "Moonlight."
...The song "Karma" was a personal favorite of mine.
...A few disappointed fans that nothing off of THE FOURTH LEGACY was
played.
...The way they ended "March Of Mephisto" with an extended fist
pumping, crowd chanting roar was very powerful. I hope that a similar
ending is on the upcoming DVD.
Just an awesome show that I would recommend to all!!! Don't forget
that Kamelot's first ever two-disc DVD package will be released on
October 24 in the US.

Satriani, Tony MacAlpine, Andy Timmons and Joey Tafolla. The seven-
track DVD is a lot of fun to watch, as Tony utilizes the talents of no
less than drummer extraordinaire Mike Terrana who keeps the energy
level high throughout. Tony's sound does owe quite a bit to his
heroes, but he manages to set himself apart by employing rhythm
guitarist Chema Herrero to bolster the sound as bassist Tony Ferrer
and keyboardist Boris Dimitrov provide excellent support. DVD
highlights include "Into The Black," "Duelling Waters," "Now" and "The
Awakening," Tony displaying a knack for melody, technique and feel in
the live setting. Also included on the DVD is a video for "Men &
Machines," Mike Terrana's drum solo, a visual documentary of the show
and a photo gallery. The CD includes some of the same songs featured
on the DVD but adds in some different versions, remixes of earlier
material and two new songs, one of which features Tony on vocals. The
sound is great, the performance solid and the material familiar but
characteristically strong on both discs. Recommended for those who
enjoy spirited metal instrumentals with lots of guitar!

Canadian prog hard rockers Saga are back with their 17th release TRUST
and the enduring band have produced an excellent album worthy of their
esteemed reputation as world class composers and musicians. TRUST
opens with the 1-2 punch of "That's As Far As I'll Go" and "Back To
The Shadows," and they're about as good as anything in the Saga
discography, with characteristically atmospheric keyboards mixing with
the exceptional vocals of Michael Sadler to time-honored effect. Just
a little momentum is lost on songs like the sensitive "My Friend," but
Saga get right back in the groove with the dynamic title track and the
incredibly good "It's Your Life." Saga is one of those bands I love
because they are so distinctive and consistently write great songs. In
addition to founder Michael Sadler, Saga now features original members
Jim Gilmour (keyboards) along with Jim and Ian Crichton (bass and lead
guitar, respectively) and new drummer Brian Doerner. The interplay
between the members is as stunning as ever -- just check out "Ice In
The Rain," "You Were Right" and closer "On The Other Side" for
evidence. TRUST may not quite match up to the lofty heights of early
'80s classics like SILENT KNIGHT, WORLDS APART and HEADS OR TAILS, but
I can't see any longtime Saga fan disappointed with the new material.
Saga continue to create quality rock music and I hope I can finally
catch them live this year. Terrific stuff, trust me!
