-Winger IV
Frontiers Records is pleased to unleash all details surrounding the
much talked comeback album from Winger simply entitled IV.
Thirteen years since the release of the critically acclaimed record
PULL, Winger are now a five-piece band comprising of Kip Winger (on
vocals and bass), Reb Beach (on guitar), Rod Morgenstein (on drums),
John Roth (on guitar and keyboards) and the new addition, Cenk Eroglu
(guitar and keyboards).
The new album, according to Kip Winger, "is the result of my chemistry
with Reb Beach. Songwriting and composition are the most important
thing to me," continues Kip. "In my opinion good songs are a
combination of life, experience and accident. On WINGER IV all of
those things came together. Reb and I are more comfortable with each
other now and our musical roles with respect to each other are more
clearly defined."
IV is definitely a career-defining album for the experienced musicians
that created it. "This was a very magical record. I gave it everything
I had, I thought of the overwhelming support I've had over the years
by the die hard fans and really wanted to give them something worth
listening to," says Winger.
The record has a very diverse feel: the aggression of tracks like
"Right Up Ahead," "M16" or "Livin' Just To Die," the mystical elements
"Disappear," the lyricism and sheer melodies of "Blue Suede Shoes,"
"On A Day Like Today," and the political elements of "Can't Take It
Back" and "Generica." The album has something for everyone.
"Several songs on this record," reveals Kip, "were inspired by my
experience performing at a few military bases, after meeting some of
the men and women who are in the line of fire. I wrote songs like
'Blue Suede Shoes,' 'Right Up Ahead' and 'M16' as a way of giving
something back to the soldiers who sacrifice themselves for the rest
of us to live free."
Winger's return album will be unleashed on the markets on Frontiers
Records on October 20th, 2006, with a Japanese release on King Records
with the following final track listing:
Right Up Ahead; Blue Suede Shoes; Four Leaf Clover; M16; Your Great
Escape; Disappear; On A Day Like Today; Livin' Just To Die; Short
Flight To Mexico; Generica; Can't Take It Back

-Dokken: Update From Don
[Note: This an unedited post Don Dokken made to
http://www.myspace.com/dokken1 on October 4. Hope he doesn't get
pissed we stole it. - Tim]
Hi everyone its me, That singer guy who seemed to drop off the Planet
for the last 6 months, I figured its about time to write and let
everyone know what's up in Dokken land which isn't easy when you type
with one finger. As you might know Mick and Barry just finished a
grueling tour with everyone's favorite hunter "Uncle" Ted Nugent. I
saw them at the house of blues and they rocked, it was interesting to
watch my bro.'s play from the audience. I have to say that Ted is one
of the coolest guys you'll ever meet, I first met him 20 years ago at
Cal Jam. A lot of people in this business change as time goes on, some
for the better some not. He's still the same straight-ahead tell it as
he sees it, endless amount of energy guy I first met. After the show I
thought I'd give them some space to chill but Mick and Barry dragged
Jon and I into the dressing room right away for a hug since we hadn't
seen each other in months. They had just played a 2 hour show and had
about 5 minutes to cool off before the dressing room filled up with
friends and the usual amount of Celebs, which always seems to be the
case in Hollyweird. Ted took the time to say hi to everyone before he
even had a chance to chill out. He really is a gracious guy. After Jon
and I watched the show it made me miss playing with the guys even
more. I had decided for us not to tour this summer since I had 4 CD's
to finish, yes 4. First, my way over due solo CD which I'm happy to
say is finally done, you'll be able to hear samples of the songs at
"Dokken.net" "DonDokken.com" and "Dokken's myspace" in a few days.
I've just finished mixing Dokken live 81, which was recorded before
BTC came out in the U S. There are 3 unreleased tracks on it that are
pretty cool.
I'm playing guitar and doing some solo harmonies with George, now
that's a trip! Jon and I have been working on a new studio album
called "Lightening Strikes Again" and to top it all off we recorded a
new greatest hits with Mick and Barry when they had time off from Ted
which wasn't much so it took some time. As if all this didn't keep me
busy enough I bought an old house in the Santa Monica Mountains which
kept my hammer busy all summer. I've always wanted a place where you
can walk out your door and pick apples peaches or plums for breakfast.
So now I have Gene Simmons for a neighbor. The only difference between
his house and mine is that his garage is bigger than my entire house
lol. As some of you might know we did a few shows in Virginia a few
weeks ago. It was great to be on stage with my partners in crime
again. Now the boys are home were finishing up our music and going on
tour starting Dec1 until a few days before Christmas. After that were
planning on doing a US tour and Europe starting around May, we just
don't know where we'll start first, but as soon as I know you will. So
there it is, I do read your posts and if I ever learn how to type I'll
try and write back more often. The good news is there's going to be a
lot of new Dokken music out they're soon and I hope you all enjoy it.
We should have our December dates posted in about a week. I hope to
see you at the shows
Keep Rokken

-Slavior Signs Worldwide Deal With Inside Out Music -- Album To Be
Released In Early 2007
Slavior, the new band of former Fates Warning/Warlord drummer Mark
Zonder has inked a worldwide deal with Inside Out Music for the
release of their self-titled debut album due in early 2007.
A versatile, melodic hard rock/metal act, Slavior's debut album
features elements familiar to Zonder's progressive metal past, but
also introduces a wide array influences including reggae, hip-hop, and
modern rock. Rounded out by Michael Schenker Group guitarist/
keyboardist Wayne Findlay and ex-Tribe Of Gypsies singer Gregg Analla,
Slavior is a band that has been a long time coming for Zonder.
"For a long, long time, I've always wanted to put something together
that was based on the drum parts," begins Zonder. "It is very
difficult to take a crazy drum idea and try to apply it to someone
else's idea. Most of the time it turns into a mess. If you start with
the drum part, and build from there, it seems to work out. With
Slavior, the songs are so accessible and groove-oriented, after 15
seconds, anyone should be able to lock into it."
The band had originally inked a deal with Greece's Black Lotus
Records, but financial turmoil eventually caused the label to fold,
leaving Slavior to re-evaluate matters and come to their initial
choice of labels, Inside Out.
"You hear the old saying, 'when one door closes, another opens' and I
think that is the case here," relates Zonder. "Inside Out was always
one of our first choices. I've known Jim (Pitulski, Inside Out America
President) for 20 years now and to come to his label is certainly
something we're excited about. Even after we inked our deal with
Inside Out, we heard from other labels that we were in contact with
that congratulated us and said that IO was a classy label. That's
always a good thing to hear."
Pitulski and Inside Out are eager to start working with Slavior.
"Mark Zonder has been a friend and colleague for many years and I have
long admired his incredible skill as a musician," comments Pitulski.
"It is with great pleasure and pride that we now welcome Mark and
Slavior to the Inside Out family. The release of Slavior represents a
unique challenge for Inside Out in that its sound is not necessarily
typical of what we've come to be known for as a label. We're looking
at this release as an opportunity to push our own boundaries just as
Slavior themselves are pushing the boundaries of modern music."
Look for Slavior to hit stores in early 2007 and for more information,

THE FARM - BACK TOGETHER NOW: LIVE
This incredible performance was filmed at Brixton Academy in London on
March 26, 2005 -- their first gig in 10 years! The DVD also includes
behind-the-scenes unreleased footage @ L.I.P.A. Rehearsal Rooms in
Liverpool from August 23, 2005. The Farm was formed in Liverpool in
1983 by singer Peter Hooton, guitarist Stevie Grimes, bassist Phil
Strongman and drummer Andy McVann. They featured a horn-heavy sound
and leftist identity, eventually being labeled "The Soul Of
Socialism." In the '90s, they took on a strong dance element and
suddenly found themselves aligned with the club culture movement.
Their most successful songs, including "All Together Now," blossomed
in this era.

PAT TRAVERS BAND - HOOKED ON MUSIC
Despite a plethora of live albums there has been very little concert
footage of Travers available. Shot on 11th April 1976 in Cologne,
Germany, this is a classic document of the early stages of Travers'
rise to international fame. Playing as a three-piece he and his band
set the standard for generations of guitar hero wannabes. A dazzling
yet strangely understated performance, this was a tantalizing taster
for what was to follow. HOOKED ON MUSIC is an impressive insight into
a man who has become a bona fide rock guitar virtuoso.

Ltd. (W.A.S.P., Twisted Sister). "We are all very excited to be with
Coallier Entertainment," the band said in a statement. "Touring in all
territories has been our goal for a long, long time and now with
Coallier Entertainment booking us, we can play in places that we never
have before and bring the Lizzy Borden show worldwide."
For booking information, contact http://www.coallierentertainment.com/
or http://www.lizzyborden.com/ .
Lizzy Borden is working on a new record and is looking to recreate the
Lizzy Borden logo to fit with the new concept. The logo shape has not
changed very much over the years, but the inside of the logo has gone
from red with blades (GIVE 'EM THE AXE) to a hypnotizing green (VISUAL
LIES) to the American flag with exposed bones (THE MURDERESS METAL
ROADSHOW) and then finally on a contract signed by the horned one
himself (DEAL WITH THE DEVIL).
Commented Lizzy: "With every record we try and make the logo fit the
concept. The concept for the new record is very dark and ominous and
we need the logo to reflect that.
"We've seen some amazing artwork on MySpace and other places on the
net and would love to find that artist who understands Lizzy Borden
and be the one to pen the logo for the forthcoming Lizzy Borden
record."
Interested parties are encouraged to submit their ideas to

"Set Your Eyes To Zion" represent P.O.D.'s 1999 major-label debut, THE
FUNDAMENTAL ELEMENTS OF SOUTHTOWN. The compilation spotlights four
tracks from the band's Top 10 follow-up, SATELLITE, including the
smash radio hits "Alive," "Boom," and "Youth Of The Nation," a
positive anthem in response to a pair of school shootings that
occurred around P.O.D.'s home turf.
The collection also features "Sleeping Awake," the lead single and
video for the "Matrix Reloaded" soundtrack in 2003 and the first song
to feature guitarist Jason Truby, who replaced Curiel in 2002.
GREATEST HITS compiles five tracks from the band's last two albums --
both Top 10 hits -- including "Execute The Sounds" and "Will You" from
PAYABLE ON DEATH (2003).
Über-producer Glen Ballard helmed the group's 2006 release TESTIFY,
which spawned the hit singles "Goodbye For Now" and "Lights Out." The
album also features "If It Wasn't For You," a song lifted from 2005's
THE WARRIORS EP, Vol. 2, and "Truly Amazing," which was featured on
the 2004 compilation THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST: SONGS (ORIGINAL SONGS
INSPIRED BY THE FILM).

-Incantation Announces First US Shows Of The PRIMORDIAL DOMINATION
World Tour
JOHNSTOWN, Penn. -- Death metal legends Incantation will hit the road
again for its first US tour in support of its recently-released
seventh album, PRIMORDIAL DOMINATION.
The group will begin its US trek with Internal Suffering and Year Of
Desolation on November 1. Incantation previewed some of the material
from PRIMORDIAL DOMINATION on the Decades Of Death tour this past
spring, then immediately went into the studio to put the finishing
touches on the record.
"We're looking forward to getting out and playing the new songs," said
guitarist/vocalist John McEntee. "This tour will hit more cities than
the Decades Of Death tour, so we will reach even more people this time
around."
PRIMORDIAL DOMINATION was released September 5 on Ibex Moon Records.
The record sticks to Incantation's tried and true recipe for brutal
death metal, which has earned the band a reputation as one of the most
important bands in the genre.
Following the release of the record, Incantation headed to South
America for a string of shows in Brazil. "The shows were amazing!"
McEntee said. "The crowds were just insane. It was a great way to kick
off the touring for the PRIMORDIAL DOMINATION world tour."
Wile in Brazil, Incantation filmed a video for the track "The Fallen
Priest."

New Zealand death metal band Dawn Of Azazel has been confirmed as the
main support act for Deicide's upcoming New Zealand/Australian tour.
"We are extremely honoured to be Supporting Deicide on this tour,"
said front man Rigel Walshe. "Deicide is one of our strongest
influences and one of the key bands that drew us all to the extreme
end of metal when we were teenagers, so to be supporting them on this
tour definitely is a tremendous accomplishment in our eyes and gives a
sense of things coming full circle to be playing to their fans
throughout Australasia."
Prior to supporting Deicide, the New Zealand-based band will play two
shows with Skinless in November.
Dawn of Azazel's latest album, SEDITION, was re-released in September

download online through Itunes and mailorder through CD Universe.
Since completing a Spring North American tour with Incantation and
Vital Remains, Dawn Of Azazel has been working on new material for the
follow-up to SEDITION.
"We have already created four new tracks and we feel confident that
this material will easily surpass our previous material in aggression,
speed, and originality," said Walshe. "We aim to have another four by
the end of January 2007, when we will begin the process of perfecting
this material for recording late in 2007."

-ChthoniC Debuts At Number Two On Metal Charts
SAN FRANCISCO -- Taiwanese black metal band ChthoniC had a strong
first week at radio as the number most added on both the CMJ Loud Rock
and FMQB Metal Detector charts.
"I've been totally absorbed with the ChthoniC album," said Ron House
of WYBB, a commercial radio station Charleston, NC. "Well, obsessed
might be a more apt description."
"Indigenous" is the track that has been favored by stations across the
country.
Deemed the "the Black Sabbath of Asia" by the Taipei Times for its
huge impact as a metal band in Taiwan, ChthoniC plays black metal with
an ethnic flair. The band's latest album SEEDIQ BALE, released October
3 on Down Port Music/RED, tells the Taiwanese legend of the Seediq
people and their strife and struggles against the Japanese. The use of
an er-hu, a unique Asian two-string violin, brings an additional
element of sadness to ChthoniC's eerie music.
ChthoniC was awarded "Best Rock Group" at the 14th Annual Golden
Melody Awards, the Eastern Asian equivalent of a Grammy. The award was
presented to the band by none other than the country's President Chen
Shui-bian. "Music is more powerful, more moving than politicians," the
President said before the band joined him on stage.
The group capped off that momentous year by playing the annual New
Year's Eve live, nationally broadcasted concert in front of
President's Hall and the release of the band's Mandarin theme for the
21st Century Fox Taiwan release of "Freddy Vs. Jason."
Chthnonic's previous albums. WHERE THE ANCESTORS' SOULS GATHERED, 9TH
EMPYREAN, and RELENTLESS RECURRENCE, have been recorded in both
Mandarin and English.

by Patrick Brower (patrickbrower@...)
-Cross thru the doors once again, dear followers, and see if you're
stricken down by the Divine. Trust me, you won't be. Our sermon starts
this week with metallic congratulations to Detritus' very own Sean G.
and his incredible story from ProgPower! All the best to you crazy
kids, Sean, and remember if you need a minister, I'm here for you,
dude! Who says metal doesn't bring people together?
-Our benevolent leader Tim W. was kind enough to lend me the new Skid
Row CD, REVOLUTIONS PER MINUTE. As I played it at work I was struck by
its lack of focus. Metal songs, hard rock songs, steel guitar songs,
country songs, and a cover of The Alarm's "Strength." Funny thing is
the press kit makes mention of the song but not that it's a cover. The
press kit also mentions the 12 new songs on the CD but our version has
only 11. Actually, it has 12 songs, but song #12 (a bonus track) is
simply song #8 with extra steel guitar and harmonica; the exact same
running time, just extra tracks of steel guitar and harmonica. A full
review is (possibly) forthcoming, but I'm not too excited.
-I'm also not too excited by Paul Stanley's LIVE TO WIN. Last week I
was only listening to the title-track single but the day after I wrote
that column, I got the full album. All 33 minutes of it. Huh. I know
that I complain often about the dollar value of music. I know that a
good 33-minute album is better to own than a mediocre 72-minute album,
but come on. It's been eight years since there was new Paul Stanley
music and all we get is 33 minutes? So? Is it good? Eh, it's alright.
It has grown on me in the week since I wrote that which you just read,
but there are a few too many misses on such a short disc for me to be
overly thrilled. Still, it'll probably end up in my Top 10 for the
year simply because it's new Paul Stanley.
-Year-To-Date-Recap. It's now October but at the end of last year Tim
asked what we were most looking forward to in 2006. Here's what I
said:
1. Paul Stanley's solo album.
2. A new studio album from Evergrey.
3. Loudness live in the Chicago suburbs!
4. New Armored Saint!
5. A Crimson Glory reunion...?
How is the year progressing?
1. See above.
2. Album of the year so far.
3. They played back in March and it was a fun show. Not Show Of The
Year, or anything (Sorry, John), but a good, solid show.
4. Pushed back to 2007.
5. Pushed back to 2007...?
-From by brother, George IV, who, by the way, only gets Detritus from
MySpace. Even though his own brother works so diligently on every
minute detail of every painstaking issue, he can't be bothered to sign
up for the e-mail: (Also, I'm sure Tim will have something to say
about that last sentence...)
[Hey wait, who is this Patrick guy sending me columns the last few
weeks? - Tim]
"Reading your last post I was suspicious of the first letter, but the
second one confirmed them as fakes. So I decided to give you a real
letter from a relative. Now on with the questions.
"1. Who is in Paul Stanley's touring band and will there ever be
another Kiss album? Or will just have to wait for Gene's Simmons'
'Larger Than Life,' where he teaches you how to be a rock star
(sponsored by Polaroid)?
"2. Will Anthrax get off this reunion kick, get back with John Bush
and record another great album? Or barring that, will there be another
Armored Saint album?
"3. Will Dream Theater ever record a song that could garner them radio
airplay, other than on XM's Boneyard?
"Sure these are soft questions, but they're better than what our
nephews 'wrote.'"
Fake? You don't know that! Maybe Mom's love for you all these years is
what's really fake! Okay, that's not true. At least, not from anything
SHE's ever said. Dad, however... but I digress. Answers!
1. The House Band from the "Rock Star" TV show I've never seen. Your
Gene Simmons idea, however, is immediately ™ & © 2006 Simmons
Productions and any future mention of it without express written
consent from Gene Simmons will result in a stiff fine, directly
withdrawn from your bank account thru thought waves. Oh yes, he can do
that.
2. G-d damn, I f-ing hope so. I want new John Bush Anthrax! Look for
new Armored Saint in 2007.
3. No. That's just not how they roll.
-What's Playing At The Altar: Paul Stanley – LIVE TO WIN (New Door),
Skid Row – REVOLUTIONS PER MINUTE (SPV), Winger – IV (Frontiers),
Lindsey Buckingham – UNDER THE SKIN (WEA) (What? He totally rocks!).

GIUNTINI PROJECT - III (A-/B+) Locomotive Records, 2006

The classic sounds of bands like Black Sabbath, Rainbow and Dio
continue to be resurrected and reflected in the music of many current
artists such as Astral Doors, Jorn Lande and Empire. The Giuntini
Project, featuring guitar hero Aldo Giuntini and Sabbath alumni Tony
Martin, does about as good a job replicating the character of those
icons as anyone, and this is both the strength and weakness of III.
It's been said that there is nothing new under the sun -- and make no
mistake about it, you've heard all this before -- but it's done so
well that the enjoyment factor is kept solidly intact. Aldo is an old
school player who combines the approach of greats like Richie
Blackmore, Tony Iommi, Gary Moore, Jake E. Lee and Akira Takasaki to
strong effect, but it's the songwriting that keeps you coming back for
more. Tony Martin sounds great on tracks like "Gold Digger," "Early
Warning," "Que Es La Vida," and "Trouble Just Keeps Coming," really
turning the best performance of all his recent projects. The
production is excellent (courtesy of Voodoo Hill's Dario Mollo) and
Aldo's backing band provides powerful support for his vintage riffs
and solos. There are a few missteps, like the unnecessary remake of
Sabbath's "Anno Mundi (The Vision)" and the standard riff rocker
"Disfunctional Kid," but for the most part the album stands as a
vigorous tribute to the aforementioned veterans' past brilliance. I
recommend you crank up III when you really want a dose of
tried-and-true, traditional heavy metal -- it's here!

GPS (not Global Positioning Satellite!) is the new Asia spin-off group
comprised of former members Guthrie Goven, John Payne and Jay Schellen
along with Ryo Okumoto from Spock's Beard, and what we have here is a
10-track album of well constructed melodic prog rock not unlike recent
Asia (surprise!). Songs like "Heaven Can Wait," "I Believe In
Yesterday," "Gold," and "Taken Dreams" really accentuate the band's
qualities, with solid grooves, catchy choruses and cool instrumental
passages that especially showcase the skills of Goven and Okumoto.
Payne's raw vocals sometimes seem out of place with the AOR aspects of
the music, as he sounds at times like he would be happier in Uriah
Heep, but he pulls it off, sounding especially good on the excellent
"The Objector." The pieces get a bit long-winded at times, and GPS
lapses into somewhat standard pop on "Since You've Been Gone" but for
the most part the album is a joy to listen to. Is there a place for
music like this in 2006? I hope so, and I look forward to hearing
future output from this band as I've no doubt WINDOW TO THE SOUL is
only the first step toward something truly extraordinary...

WAITING FOR THE TIDE is a reissue of the second Mind's Eye album from
2000 and it's a diverse mix of prog rock, melodic hard rock and AOR.
On songs such as "Calling (Father To Son)," "Closer (Spirits In The
Room Part I)," and "Circles In The Sand," the band displays its talent
for blending emotional lyrical content with seamless musicianship. Two
bonus tracks are included in the form of "Endless Passages," a
relatively heavier rocker featuring Robert Forse on vocals, and the
energetic instrumental "Spellbound." It's all pleasantly melodic but a
bit tedious after awhile, as the band seems unable to keep the
excitement level consistently high throughout. Still, there are some
really captivating moments on the disc, and the quality of the
arrangements combined with the players' high level of skill serve to
overcome the sedate nature of some of the pieces. If you are fan of
any of the other Mind's Eye albums and just missed out on this one you
should check it out, as you'll find here many of the elements that
make Mind's Eye compelling to listen to. Overall an interesting
snapshot of a band still in development but revealing great potential,
WAITING FOR THE TIDE is a strong portent of better things to come...
