-New Napalm Records For North American Release, 1/16/07

Today, Napalm Records announces three new releases for North America,
confirmed for a street date of January 16th, 2007:

Die Verbannten Kinder Evas - DUSK AND VOID BECOME ALIVE
http://www.dvke.info/

Long-awaited new album, and the project's first in nearly seven years.
Die Verbannten Kinder Evas is the brain-trust of Summoning member
Richard Lederer (AKA Protector), and is built solely around classical
strings, sparse percussion, and ethereal female vocals. Although far
from metal, the aptly titled DUSK AND VOID BECOME ALIVE is a haunting,
spellbinding work of melancholy and tension, spaciousness and shadow.
DVKE's previous IN DARKNESS LET ME DWELL is hailed as a darkwave
classic, and this new record is guaranteed to garner attention based
on new frontwoman Christina Kroustali's ghostly voice alone.
Recommended for fans of Dead Can Dance, The Cranes, This Mortal Coil,
and Hagalaz Runedance.

Elis - GRIEFSHIRE
http://www.elis.li/

Final Elis recording to feature vocalist Sabine Dünser, who tragically
died earlier this year. Giving the performance of a lifetime, the
dynamic Dünser recorded her vocal tracks prior to her death, and the
band decided to complete the sessions since the vocalist often
referred to GRIEFSHIRE as her "baby." Fittingly, GRIEFSHIRE is a
compelling epitaph, whereby Elis' characteristic symphonic metal
emphasizes more the band's METAL roots and less on the gothic
flourishes that earmarked the preceding DARK CLOUDS IN A PERFECT SKY
-- altogether, an Elis that's heavier than ever, with expansive
production courtesy of Alex Krull (Atrocity, Leaves' Eyes).
Recommended for fans of Nightwish, Within Temptation, Epica, and
Leaves' Eyes.

Fairyland - THE FALL OF AN EMPIRE
http://www.fairyland-metal.com/

Don't let the band name fool you: Fairyland are heavy metal warriors
to the last. Napalm's latest signing, this French quintet excel at
extremely epic, raise-your-swords traditional HEAVY METAL, yet
embellish their swashbuckling sagas with dazzling instrumental prowess
and oft-symphonic synths. THE FALL OF AN EMPIRE is the band's second
album, and sounds exactly like the cover looks -- epic, and fantastic!
Additionally, Fairyland's OF WARS IN OSYRHIA debut, which was
critically acclaimed in the European press and led to a successful
tour with Sonata Arctica, will be reissued by Napalm worldwide.
Recommended for fans of Helloween, Blind Guardian, Rhapsody, and
Stratovarius.

-Diamond Head, The Murder Junkies, Detention Lounge, Catamania, Grave,
And Sinister DVDs From MVD Visual

Diamond Head - TO THE DEVIL HIS DUE

This powerful performance was recorded at the London Astoria on
November 4, 2005. The show captures the resurrected band storming
through all their classics including "The Prince," "Sucking My Love"
and "Lightning To The Nations." The DVD includes an exclusive
interview with the band and as a bonus, the making of "All Will Be
Revealed" filmed by Mike De Jager has been included. Deeply affected
by Diamond Head's idiosyncratic style, metal legends Metallica have
covered "Am I Evil?," "It's Electric" and "Helpless," all of which are
featured on the DVD. Both Metallica and Megadeth have famously cited
the band as an important early influence.

The Murder Junkies - EUROPEAN INVASION 2005

In November of 2005, after many years of anticipation, The Murder
Junkies finally toured Europe for the very first time. First arriving
in Switzerland, the journey took them across eight countries over a
30-day period. Each night they performed for enthusiastic audiences
and were treated to an overwhelming crowd response. The combination of
their high energy show and the intensity of their crazed fans led to
one hell of a rowdy kick ass tour. This DVD includes the very best
audio and video tracks from various performances. "This is by far the
coolest footage I've seen of the band." - Merle Allin. Bonus - GG

DVD also features heavy metal music from Weedkiller, Jesus Knevil,
Krust, Purple Pam, Sun Lord and an appearance by the New York City
underdog, Bobby Hambel, legendary hardcore guitarist. As a bonus,
additional musical performances are included.

place among such death metal stars as Suffocation, Cannibal Corpse, or
Obituary -- bands with which Sinister has shared the stage. The DVD
features both new and old Sinister songs, all played with just as much
charisma as deliberation. It also includes an interview with the

-Pillar's THE RECKONING Debuts At No. 70 On Billboard's Top 200

Impressive Ranking On Multiple Sales Charts And Critical Acclaim From
Key Media Combine For Notable First Week

The "Days Of The Reckoning" Tour Kicks Off Oct. 26

NASHVILLE, TENN -- Rock band Pillar debuts on sales charts this week
with its fourth studio album THE RECKONING (10/3) making an impressive
impact on sales charts overall, this week, debuting at No. 70 on the
Billboard Top 200 chart, with more than 14 thousand in sales its first
week at retail.

On the Nielsen SoundScan charts, the band claimed an impressive No. 6
on the Hard Music Chart Overall; No. 3 Record Label Independent
Current Album chart; No. 19 on the Alternative chart Overall and No.
47 on the Internet Album chart.

Impressive chart positions reflect acclaim given the band by media
outlets including Hit Parader Magazine, All Access Music Magazine, AOL
Music, Guitar World Magazine, CNN Radio Networks blogcritics.org,
musictap.net, rockmymonkey.com and Metal Express Radio Networks while
consumer support is evident in sales and well as rapid tour sell outs.

Andy Secher of Hit Parader Magazine offers, "Throughout THE RECKONING
it is crystal clear that Pillar's down-to earth approach (with a touch
of celestial guidance thrown in for good measure), is just what the
rock and roll doctor ordered. Such tracks as riff-powered 'Everything'
and the skittery 'Sometimes' show a band that's not afraid to take
chances while brandishing their 'pure-bred' rock and roll
convictions."

Metal Express Radio Networks notes, "Pillar shows a truly successful
heavy rock album can be made while still keeping it clean. With an
insightful and unsullied lyrical approach, THE RECKONING confirms the
band's songwriting has reached full artistic stride ... and the
musical power burned into this album proves Pillar has indeed not
forgotten how to ROCK!"

Additional reviews include blogcritics.org who notes, "[Pillar's] THE
RECKONING is strong start to finish," and rockmymonkey.com with,
"Pillar has the right formula for staying power."

With multiple adds at radio the band is readying for its eighth
national headlining tour, the "days of THE RECKONING" tour, featuring
Day Of Fire, The Showdown and Decyfer Down.

Opening in Minneapolis on Oct. 26, the tour will visit more than 30
cities through mid-December. Among those major markets are Chicago,
Cincinnati, Baltimore, Atlanta, Dallas, Denver, Phoenix and Seattle.
Already, industry gatekeepers are billing this tour as the "loudest
tour this fall."

(A complete tour itinerary is available at http://www.pillarmusic.com/
.)

Simultaneously released was the special edition of THE RECKONING,
comprising the new album and featuring a bonus DVD with more than
three hours of footage. The video portion includes a 2006 performance,
as well as song commentaries by Pillar, and a "how to" section in
which the members explain their equipment, technical aspects of songs,
and other helpful hints.

Since the band's Award-winning 2001 debut ABOVE, Flicker Records
artist Pillar has seen unprecedented success in every aspect of its
career. With seven No. 1 radio singles and 12 Top 5 hits to its
credit, Pillar has earned an additional three Dove Awards, headlined
seven national tours, performed for more than two million people, and
been featured on the covers of Radio & Records, Rockline Magazine, CCM
Magazine, 7ball Magazine, Breakaway Magazine, HM Magazine, and
Christian Retailing. The band has also received print coverage in
Rolling Stone, Spin, Bass Player, and Hit Parader.

Pillar's video "Bring Me Down" saw heavy rotation on the Fuse TV
program "Rockzilla" and was voted No. 1 at Fuse TV's "Oven Fresh." The
band additionally won Fuse TV's Next Big Thing award. Most recently,
Teen Mania tapped Pillar's "Frontline" as the 18-month-long theme song
for its "BattleCry" campaign with the organization filming an
accompanying music video that aired at events in arenas nationwide.
Pillar released its fourth studio project, The Reckoning, Oct. 3. The
album's first radio single, "Everything," currently reigns at No. 2 on
R&R's Christian Rock chart.

Also, look for Pillar on the cover of HM Magazine's November/December
issue.

-New Release From Radiant!

Hello there,

Enjoying the fall season? Here in Nashville things are getting
colorful, in more ways than one. Take for example this new release
from Swedish prog outfit A.C.T. ...how was that for a tie in? :)
Here's a blurb about it:

A.C.T. - SILENCE

Many secrets surround the Swedish quintet A.C.T, who are about to
release their fourth studio album SILENCE. What does the abbreviation
A.C.T actually stand for? "We won't tell you," says Keyboardist and
vocalist Jerry Sahlin, "it's up to the fans to guess." What about the
album title SILENCE? "Well, it's good that this word has so many
meanings..." Okay, let's move on from this. It's also a mystery as to
why the band are still only considered a "hot tip," despite their
extraordinary song material and strong tour supports for well-known
acts such as Fish and Saga. With SILENCE however, their first release
for InsideOut Music, this all looks set to change.

The band's music, which the protagonists themselves call "Melodic/
Prog/Rock/Pomp/Pop," has become much more mature and concise with each
album. The band's skills are not just limited to impressive solo spots
but can be best appreciated in their ensemble playing. There are some
stand out examples on the new album such as the guitar and keyboard
interplay in the middle section of "Hope," or the bass and keyboards
working together in "No Longer Touching Ground." The first half of the
album is a collection of individual songs, while the other half tells
the tragic story of Joanna, a young woman desperately wanting a child,
who ends up experiencing a tragic turn of events. It is in this second
half of SILENCE where the band really shines and captivates the
listener with its finer tones and complex song structures. Each listen
reveals something new in the music without ever taking the magic away
from it. How the band achieves this will probably remain A.C.T.'s
biggest mystery.

Full CD comes with bonus live footage of this exciting band.

Now available at http://www.radiantrecords.com/ .

And while you're there check out all the great titles we've got in
stock! Don't forget about the new Flower Kings super DVD and Live CD
package INSTANT DELIVERY and Morse, Portnoy and George's COVER TO

INNER CIRCLE NEWS: Just this morning Neal came to me and said "what
can we give the Inner Circle people in this next mailing to make it
even more special?" We appreciate all of your kindness and patience
through this time while my Mom has been sick (she's getting better
now!) and are planning a big mailing at the beginning of November. We
are planning to send: one behind the scenes at Neal's summer tour of
Europe, One bootleg DVD of Neal playing the whole Question Mark album
in London, AND one audio CD as yet to be determined. That's three
Discs in all! Now Neal wants to add a free gift as well...so sign up
now to get in on this November mailing. We are hoping to ship between
November 1 - 7. This will be the September AND November shipment...but
if you sign up now you can get BOTH!

-Yakuza Schedules Live Shows To Finish Off Year, Will Debut New
Material

Chicago's prog-minded metal band Yakuza have secured several more live
appearances before the end of the year, including an October
appearance supporting fellow Chicagoans Pelican in Cleveland Heights,
OH and a string of dates in November and December alongside Misery
Index, Intronaut and labelmates Burn In Silence. More dates will be
announced as they are confirmed.

Yakuza continues to support the critically-lauded SAMSARA, the band's
Prosthetic Records debut, but will be road testing some new material
the band has already written for a forthcoming record tentatively
scheduled to be recorded early next year. Yakuza has already shared
tour dates earlier this year with Dysrhythmia, Behold...The Arctopus,
3, Angel Eyes, The Number 12 Looks Like You, and The JonBenet, as well
as appearance at the Eighth Annual New England Metal And Hardcore
Festival.

With praise from metal and indie press alike, Brave Words & Bloody
Knuckles has proclaimed that Yakuza's "foaming at the mouth musical
delivery is complemented by some of the raddest and most cohesively
efficient song structures out there." Meanwhile, Kerrang has labeled
SAMSARA "a stupefying collision of lumbering, fuzzed-up riffs, prog-
jazz oddness and warped psychedelia, played with enough shamanistic
force to make the sky collapse itself." Recorded with producer/
engineer Matt Bayles (Pearl Jam, Isis) in the band's hometown, SAMSARA
features guest appearances from pianist Jim Baker, cellist Fred
Lonberg-Holm, Sanford Parker, and Mastodon's Troy Sanders.

Yakuza on tour
10/16 Cleveland Heights, OH – Grog Shop (with Pelican, Sun God)

(with Misery Index, Intronaut, Burn In Silence)
11/22 Toledo, OH – Club Bijou
11/23 Columbus, OH – High Five
11/24 Akron, OH - Daily Double
11/26 Nashville, TN – The Muse
11/27 Marietta, GA – Swayze's
11/28 Charleston, SC – Village Tavern
11/29 Wilmington, NC – Lucky's

"This is extremity as art, uncompromising, dynamic, and unforgiving as
an avalanche of bricks. Hopefully, the rest of the metal world can
catch up to these cats in time to give SAMSARA the recognition it
deserves." - Blabbermouth

"...foaming at the mouth musical delivery is complemented by some of
the raddest and most cohesively efficient song structures out there."
- Brave Words & Bloody Knuckles

"...a stupefying collision of lumbering, fuzzed-up riffs, prog-jazz
oddness and warped psychedelia, played with enough shamanistic force
to make the sky collapse itself." - Kerrang

"The Chicago quartet's newest nose-bleeding excursions, free-jazz
workouts and tribal-drum barrages thrust thrash, hardcore, noise and
prog elements into a food processor, the songs eradicating conventions
as they bound between harsh heaviness and wander-through-the-desert
calmness." - Chicago Tribune

"It'd be easy to tag Yakuza as a prog-metal band and be done with it,
but that would somehow be selling its range and versatility (not to
mention its creativity) short. This is progressive only in the sense
that it is attempting to take the genre forward. But make no mistake:
This is a metal album, and a damn fine one at that." - Chord

"So scary, we think you'll crap your pants...This could be the next
step on for heavy music." - Metal Hammer

"Yakuza no longer have to whip out every trick in their book on every
track; they're now making music that, like the best jazz and rock,
develops organically as it goes along." - Alternative Press

by Keith Abt (Keithabt@...)

-Iron Maiden/Bullet For My Valentine
Continental Airlines Arena, NJ
October 13, 2006

It seemed almost too perfect when I first heard that Iron Maiden's A
MATTER OF LIFE AND DEATH tour would be touching down at the
Continental Airlines Arena in my home state of New Jersey on Friday
the 13th of all days! The idea of seeing Maiden again was incredibly
tempting despite the fact that I'd been in self-imposed "concert
retirement" for over four years. For a while, I thought I was going to
have to miss them again anyway, due to financial restraints. One of my
friends called me about five minutes before tickets went on sale back
in late August asking if I wanted "in," but due to extreme poverty at
the time I had to pass. It was with a heavy heart that I had to do so,
needless to say. I was kicking myself for over a month, but then my
true metal compatriot Brian Aberback (hails, bro!) came in with a
MASSIVE save at the last minute. Brian is a reporter for The Record
newspaper (part of the media conglomerate that also employs Yours
Truly) and when he interviewed Dave Murray for the paper a week or so
before the show, he was put on the guest list for the Continental gig.
When he asked me if I'd like to go to the show with him as his "plus
one," I obviously jumped at the chance.

Things took an odd turn in the days leading up to the concert, when
word leaked out that Maiden was taking the unusual step of playing the
ENTIRE new album in its set, at the expense of most of the usual
classic tracks that have been concert staples for years. Fan reaction
was rather sharply divided, as you might expect (i.e. "It's a
BRILLIANT idea!" or "It's a HORRIBLE idea, I'm selling my tickets on
eBay!") so when Brian and I headed to the Continental on Friday night
we were curious to see how the evening would turn out. Would the
notoriously tough New York/New Jersey crowd welcome the overabundance
of new material in the set, or would Maiden be showered with flying
objects and screams of "YO, PLAY F**KIN' 'NUMBER OF THE BEAST,'
MOTHERF**KERS?" Read on for the answer...

Newcomers Bullet For My Valentine started off the evening with a half
hour set that was...well, nothing special. (I STILL say that Motorhead
should've been opening... Their new album came out the week before
Maiden's, and they're on the same label, for cryin' out loud, so it
should've been a no brainer!) I'm not familiar with the band at all,
but they seem to be saddled with the dreaded "emo" tag (even though
I'm still not really sure what constitutes "emo."). To my ears they
sounded like a pretty decent, if unspectacular, melodic thrash band
(with vocals that were a little too "WOOOOOAAAAAAARRRRGH" for me) that
hinted at In Flames/Children Of Bodom. This is the sort of stuff that
tends to go over better in small clubs than in huge arenas, but
despite the small audience (the Continental was less than half full
while they were on), the young Brits seemed totally jazzed to be
opening for Maiden. They had some decent twin-guitar harmonies going
on (and they had the synchronized headbanging moves down pat). So I
may never buy a Bullet For My Valentine album, but I've sat through
worse opening acts.

The arena had filled up nicely by the time Maiden came on but still
wasn't totally sold out, which made me wonder if the word of mouth
about the new material-heavy set list had hurt ticket sales. The crowd
greeted Maiden warmly nonetheless as they launched into "Different
World" off the new CD. Maiden had a cool, military-themed stage set,
painted to resemble a World War I "trench" (sand bags, barbed wire,
etc.) with a ramp going up around the drum riser for Bruce to run
around on. The sound quality, at least from where I sat, was a little
watery at times... On and off throughout the show, Bruce had a
tendency to get drowned out by 'Arry's bass or the guitars, but
naturally whenever he screeeeeeamed we could all hear him just fine!!
Bruce was his usual athletic self, running from one end of the stage
to the other, leaping over the monitors onto one of the three "ego
ramps" that jutted out from the front of the stage, and leading the
crowd in many "Scream For Me, New Jersey!" moments that cemented his
rep as one of metal's leading ringmasters. Janick Gers, on the other
hand, continues to annoy me with his flat-out goofy interpretive dance
moves, just like he did when I last saw Maiden on the BRAVE NEW WORLD
tour.

About three songs in, Bruce announced to the crowd that they were
going to be playing the A MATTER OF LIFE AND DEATH album from
beginning to end. I expected people to start throwing stuff at that
point but the majority of the crowd seemed to take the news well, as I
only heard a few scattered "boos." (I know my brother, who was also in
attendance and who does not yet have the new CD, was QUITE pissed off,
however.) I bought A MATTER OF LIFE AND DEATH on the first day it was
released; I like it just fine and it was played EXTREMELY well and
with much passion by the Maiden members, but even so, I will admit
that by the time they got to "The Reincarnation Of Benjamin Breeg" I
leaned over to my friend and asked him, "This is what, track #7,
right? Three more to go." Of the new album tracks, I'd say that
"Brighter Than A Thousand Suns," "For The Greater Good Of God" and
"The Longest Day" definitely packed WAY more punch in the live
setting. The acoustic part at the beginning of album-closer "The
Legacy" also sounded pretty damn cool over the humongous sound
system...I'm still trying to figure out how they got ACOUSTIC guitars
to sound THAT heavy? At the conclusion of "The Legacy," Bruce said "A
Matter of Life... and Death. Thank you," took a bow, and the stage
went dark for a brief moment. When the lights came back on and Maiden
tore into "Fear Of The Dark," you could definitely feel the sigh of
relief from the assembled crowd, i.e. "FINALLY!" From there they
ripped into "Iron Maiden" (still one of the best live sing-along songs
EVER) complete with on-stage appearance by Eddie (who wore military
gear and waved a machine gun), and "2 Minutes To Midnight," all of
which had the crowd on their feet and roaring along throughout. "The
Evil That Men Do" followed and the show closed with an awesome
rendition of "Hallowed Be Thy Name." There were some additional "boos"
when the house lights came up at the end of "Hallowed Be Thy Name,"
which I could understand; hearing only five classics seemed like a
tease more than anything else, but I still left the arena feeling
mostly satisfied. Do I wish that they'd cut the number of new album
tracks in half and played more classics? Sure. Am I a little
disappointed that they didn't throw in "The Trooper," "The Number Of
The Beast" or "Run To The Hills?" Of course. If I were in charge
(which I'm not, obviously, but let me fantasize for a minute), I would
have suggested to Maiden that if they wanted to play A MATTER OF LIFE
AND DEATH in its entirety, that's fine (they can do whatever they
want, after all), but perhaps they should've started the show off with
a couple of classics to get the crowd going, THEN gone into the new
stuff. Then, if necessary, throw in another oldie or two at around the
halfway point of the new album, and finish the show with another
clutch of classics to end things with a bang. Just my two cents. On
its own merits, it was a decent show (well, hell, it's MAIDEN, how
could it NOT be a decent show?), although nowhere near as good as the
gig I saw on 2000's BRAVE NEW WORLD tour at Madison Square Garden. Of
course, I really have no right to bitch about any of the proceedings,
because I got in for free and was simply happy to be there at all. The
folks who paid $60 and up for their tickets probably have a slightly
different take on the night's events. :) My advice to anyone who plans
to catch the remaining dates on Maiden's tour, would be to make sure
you're familiar with the new album first, otherwise you may find
yourself a bit lost and disappointed.

MARCO FERRIGNO - HANGING GARDENS (B+/B) Lion Music, 2006

Lion again discovers excellent shred talent in Mexico's Marco
Ferrigno, a technically adept player who certainly has his arpeggios
and speed picking down! I can pretty much tell you here at the outset
that HANGING GARDENS is going to appeal almost exclusively to other
guitar players and musicians, but I'm sure it's well understood that
these folks are the main audience for albums such as this. Musically
everything is right on the money, although the production suffers from
a somewhat thin rhythm guitar sound, fortunately this is made up for
by the exceptional playing of star bassist Tony Franklin. Marco often
sounds like George Bellas (his teacher and a guest here) channeling
Tony MacAlpine, and that is my main criticism: he needs to develop
more of an original voice. Otherwise HANGING GARDENS displays some
stunning shred excursions, some of the highlights include impressive
opener "Temple Of Time," the precise "Tower Of Babel," atmospheric
"Mediterraneo" and ripping "Varanus Komodoensis" (don't ask me what
that means!). A portion of the credit must go to Franklin and drummer
Marco Minnemann for really spicing up the proceedings with some fine
performances. Marco has the tools; all that's left is for him to break
free of his influences and establish a distinctive identity, and
that's probably the most difficult task of the modern day guitar
virtuoso. A player to keep an eye on...

TY TABOR - ROCK GARDEN (B-) Inside Out Music, 2006

I've never been a huge fan of side projects from the King's X members,
save for some of the stuff Doug (Dug?) Pinnick has been involved in;
even though the guys are extremely talented I always felt their solo
material kind of lacked the right chemistry to make it essential
listening. ROCK GARDEN is Ty Tabor's third official solo outing and
while it's not my favorite style of rock, I must admit the songs are
infectious and gratifying in their own way. It should come as no
surprise to hear a strong Beatles influence in many of the songs, but
for the most part this is tastefully incorporated. Actually much of
ROCK GARDEN reflects '90s alternative pop rock, from the gritty
quirkiness of tunes like "Stalker" to the should-be-a-hit singles "I
Know What I'm Missing" and "Afraid." Things get a little too poppy on
"She's A Tree" and the album goes into average territory on
"Thankful," but overall ROCK GARDEN is a pleasant listen especially
well-suited for driving. Probably best recommended to fans of bands
like Foo Fighters and Goo Goo Dolls, King's X completists will also
likely enjoy portions of ROCK GARDEN.
