-So I'm giving my kid a bath last night, and the radio station we had
on played Scorpions' "No One Like You," Def Leppard's "Foolin'," Blue
Oyster Cult's "Burnin' For You," and The Bangles' "Hazy Shade Of
Winter" in the span of about 20 minutes. Not bad at all! When the
Scorps song started, I told the kid "Listen up -- this is some of the
sweetest guitar tone you'll ever hear." I'm such a good dad. :) - Tim

-Flotsam And Jetsam - DOOMSDAY FOR THE DECEIVER Reissue Box Set Out
Monday!
The 20th anniversary reissue box set of Flotsam And Jetsam's milestone
release DOOMSDAY FOR THE DECEIVER will be in stores all over Europe
next Monday. Included in the set are two CDs featuring the original
album, a re-mixed and re-mastered version, and a bunch of demo tracks,
plus a DVD including tons of live footage, interviews and unreleased
songs from the '84/'85 era!
Original drummer Kelly Smith commented the release as follows: "When I
got the re-mix copy of DOOMSDAY I nearly cried at the performance and
the realization of how great a band we were at that time. We practiced
nearly everyday for at least 2-3 hours and even more after Jason
[Newsted] left as we wanted to be the best metal band as well as the
best musicians we could be. We lived it, we ate it, and we breathed it
in and made it apart of each of us. I am very proud that I was a part
of this project and had the chance to play with such awesome musicians
and work with great talent behind the board."

-Z Records News
TONY MILLS AOR RELEASE SET FOR 2007 WITH SOME GOOD FRIENDS
We very pleased to announce that Tony Mills has signed a new contract
with Z Records. Tony's new album can be expected Spring '07 and will
be a total AOR project which will please fans of his former band Shy
and Journey, etc. Tony is currently in pre-production with TNT but
made the following comment about signing yet another deal with Z...
"Having worked with many writers this year, I have co-written many
songs that really fit into a softer rock mould that didn't work for
some of the heavier projects I've been involved in. Working with Tor
Talle (The Northern Light), Tony Marshall (Vaughn), Charlie Giardina &
Hardway, Mick Blakk, Simon Lees, Adrian Marx and Joe Basketts from
Shy, I have many songs left still to be worked on. If it wasn't for
the discovery of Linkan Andersson and the TNT machine, I think this
album would already be written. So, a lighter rock album for the
winter months for release around Spring, I think. Z Records have shown
great interest in this project and so with the oncoming onslaught of
TNT in Europe, this may be the last chance I get to release any solo
rock material for a long time. So,guess I'd better get on with it..."
Meanwhile the release of CRANK IT UP has been delayed by serious
artwork problems which we are pleased to announce are now back on
track. The album will be in all good stores November 20th.

-Road To Ruin Featruing Lion's Share, Ex-Jagged Edge Members: Debut CD
On The Way
Metal Heaven Records has inked a deal with Road To Ruin, the Swedish
band consisting of Matti Alfonzetti (vocals; Jagged Edge, The Poodles,
Skintrade), Lars Chriss (guitar; Lion's Share); Sampo Axelsson (bass
and keyboards; Glenn Hughes, Lion's Share), and Thomas Broman (drums;
Great King Rat, John Norum, Glenn Hughes).
Road To Ruin was founded in the year 2005 when guitarist Chriss and
Axelsson started to write some material which didn't fit their melodic
metal band Lion's Share. The group is currently putting the finishing
touches on its self-titled debut album, which will follow a classic
'70s and '80s hard rock vein (a la Whitesnake, Rainbow, Thin Lizzy).
The recordings were produced by Chriss, Axelsson and Alfonzetti and

November 24th 2006 Releases
Book Of Reflections - CHAPTER II - UNFOLD THE FUTURE
LMC190
EAN:LMC641992200190 5
http://www.lionmusic.com/book2.htm
Book Of Reflections - CHAPTER II - UNFOLD THE FUTURE is a potent
musically accomplished mix of progressive metal and classic hard rock,
showcasing strong melodic sensibilities. Lyrically the album is varied
focusing on topics from distrust in the political world to a
celebration of life along with a couple of sad love songs.
On the album's direction, project leader Lars Eric Mattsson comments,
"The idea was to continue where the first album ended and take the
music a few steps forward. The songs are a little bit less predictable
but easier to listen to. It was a long journey as there are many
musicians and singers involved. The songs are all good songs with
memorable choruses while still not using too many cliches."
When quizzed on his favourite moments of CHAPTER II - UNFOLD THE
FUTURE, Lars states, "The energy of the title track 'Unfold the
Future' -- killer vocals and an almost impossible to play guitar solo
and the total opposite: the acoustic 'Blink Of An Eye.' It's all in
all a very dynamic album."
The album is home to a number of top class musicians from the Lion
Music roster such as vocalists Bjorn Jansson (Tears Of Anger) and
Martin LeMar (Tomorrow's Eve) who handle three songs each. In addition
to Mattsson's fiery fretwork is the guitar talent of Anand Mahangoe
(Sphere Of Souls, solo). Mistheria (Bruce Dickinson) contributes
keyboard solos on four tracks whilst longtime Mattsson collaborator
Eddie Sledgehammer plays drums. Mattsson himself handles all other
guitars, bass, keyboards and additional vocals.

Michael Harris - ORCHESTRATE
LMC191
EAN:LMC641992200191 2
http://www.lionmusic.com/orchestrate.htm
ORCHESTRATE sees world acclaimed guitarist Michael Harris back with
the most ambitious album of his career. With a style best described as
"Neo Orchestral Metal" the album is a modern day masterpiece. One
listen reveals the unique combination of electric guitar playing a
very "classical meets metal" style with an orchestra and metal
drumming complete with stunning guitar virtuosity.
On the album Michael comments, "My original vision was to go back to
my DEFENSE MECHANIZMS roots, yet to focus on one style, neoclassical
metal. As the record developed, I realized 'Orchestral' was a better
term, so I consider the record to be my one & only neo-orchestral
record. My previous instrumental records have had some 'classical
meets metal' compositions, but this record is focused exclusively on
that style. I recorded all the backing strings, etc on my keyboard,
and rather than playing chords, most of the time I treated it like
scoring an orchestra, recording one 'voice' at a time. There is still
plenty of guitar of course, and drummer Matt Thompson did an
outstanding job. My focus compositionally was to create strong themes
first and foremost, before the musicianship & full arrangements came
into play."
On the making of the album Michael states, "I recorded all the backing
strings, etc., on my new Yamaha Motif ES keyboard (because the sounds
blew me away) and rather than playing chords, most of the time I
treated it like scoring an orchestra, recording one 'voice' at a time.
Time consuming? Hell yes! So what! There is still plenty of guitar on
the record of course, and Matt's drumming just kicked the whole thing
in the arse!"
"My focus compositionally was to create strong themes first and
foremost, before the musicianship & full arrangements came into play.
I didn't intend on writing around any particular 'culture' of music
stylistically, but when I listen back, I hear many different styles,
even some Russian / Slavic themes. I also wanted to create a record
that breathes with a lot of dynamics, also with at least one tempo
descelerondo, and some free time tempos."
Michael's classical inspirations include the classical composers
include Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Dukas, and Vivaldi.
Michael's more recent favourites include Krzysztof Penderecki and
Allan Pettersson, stating, "I've found them to have some captivating
ideas texturally, but the classical composers I appreciate the most
(above) are the ones who composed with the greatest melodic sense."

http://www.hurtlocker.biz/
Dan Ditella, former drummer for Chicago thrashers Hurtlocker, has
passed away on October 18th.
"Hurtlocker would like to take the opportunity to say goodbye to a
friend, and former bandmate. Dan Ditella played with Hurtlocker during
much of 2005, and recorded drums on our Napalm Records debut FEAR IN A
HANDFUL OF DUST.
"Dan passed away 10/18/2006 due to complications while in rehab in
Elgin, IL. The details are still sketchy so at this point we can't say
too much. Our thoughts go out to his family, especialy his brother
Mike, and his mother as well as all of Dan's friends. During his time
with Hurtlocker, he struggled with many demons, but he was a good kid
with a big heart. We only hope that Dan found the peace he couldn't
find while he was here. That's all for now. God bless and goodbye. -

-Quiet Riot Update
Founded in 1975 by Randy Rhoads, Quiet Riot are recognized as
contributing to the success of the 1980's Glam Metal scene. Their
album METAL HEALTH was the first American heavy metal to reach #1 on
the Billboard charts in the USA. Quiet Riot knocked The Police's
SYNCHRONICITY from the top spot and helped pave the way for more heavy
metal albums to gain the commercial success they deserved. At the same
time, they had another first ... the first time that a heavy metal
band made the Top 5 in the US pop charts. Their cover of Slade's "Cum
On Feel The Noize" spent two weeks at #5.
The new album, REHAB, was recorded by Kevin DuBrow (vocals), and
Frankie Banali (drums), joined by Tony Franklin on Bass, and Neil
Citron on the guitar. They are also joined by the voice of rock, Glenn
Hughes, who guests on the Spooky Tooth cover "Evil Woman" (both as
part of the vocal duet, and on bass). Since the recording, both Alex
Grossi (guitar) and Chuck Wright (bass) have rejoined the band, and
this is the lineup that is going to be touring worldwide in support of
the album.
Over the years, the band has been home to various celebrity members
... Rhoads famously went on to play with Ozzy Osbourne, but in
addition to that Rudy Sarzo, bass player between 1979 and 1985 (and
1997 - 2003), went on to play with Whitesnake & Dio, Sean McNabb (1987
- 1989) played with Great White, and even Tracii Guns of L.A. Guns
fame was the guitarist, albeit for only two weeks!
They have also been immortalized on "The Simpsons," in an episode
entitled "The Father, Son And The Holy Guest Star" in 2005, where they
performed as a religious band called Pious Riot!
The new album, REHAB is released by Demolition Records on November
22nd.

This year's lineup -- a mixture of metal veterans from the US and
abroad, as well as up and coming national acts -- will be: Overkill,

"I put the Seattle Metal Fest on the back burner for a while because I
felt that it should become a stronger festival -- a show with great
national metal acts that people would travel from all over the Pacific
Northwest to see," said Hetzel. "It took some time to work out the
logistics for a festival of this size and with the help of Dragon
Monkey Media; the show is coming together smoothly."

-Twisted Sister Update
'Twas the night before Christmas, and not a creature was stirring, not
even a mouse ...
Bollocks to that, this year it's A TWISTED CHRISTMAS!!!
Twisted Sister return with a new studio album .... With a difference.
In between a grueling touring schedule, where they have headlined at
most of the world's biggest festivals, they have managed to find
enough time to record an album, in time for Christmas ... so what else
would you expect? Of course, an album of Christmas songs, done in the
inimitable Twisted Sister style. Much loved songs like "Oh Come All
You Faithful" and "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus" have been given
the Twisted makeover, and they have been joined for a couple of songs
by old friends ... Lita Ford duets on "I'll Be Home For Christmas" and
Doro Pesch lends her vocal talents to a great version of "White
Christmas." But probably the highlight of the album has to be the re-
lyriced "12 Days Of Christmas," entitled "Heavy Metal Christmas" ...
"on the first day of Christmas my true love sent to me ... a tattoo of
Ozzy."
Twisted Sister reformed in 2001, after working together on a number of
projects such as recording a song for the "Strangeland" soundtrack
(the film written, directed and starring Dee Snider) and the unusual
step of recording an AC/DC cover for a Twisted Sister tribute album!
In 2001, they performed at a benefit gig for the NYPD And FDNY Widows
And Orphans Fund (after September 11th) and a number of shows for the
US military. It wasn't until 2003, when Mark Mendoza rejoined the
band, reuniting the classic lineup, and a storming headline
performance at the Sweden Rock Festival, that the world realized what
a live force Twisted Sister still were!
The band went on to re-record their STAY HUNGRY album, stating that
they were unhappy with the original production, and released it in
2004 as STILL HUNGRY. But these were not the only recording duties
that the band members undertook. In addition to the new Twisted
Christmas album, Jay Jay French and Dee Snider worked with Eurovision
winners Lordi to produce and play on a few tracks on their
AROCKALYPSE.
A TWISTED CHRISTMAS is released by Demolition Records on November
22nd.

-Paul Stanley Meet & Greet Package
The Beatles had Paul McCartney. Led Zeppelin had Robert Plant. Kiss
have Paul Stanley.
For more than thirty years, Paul Stanley has reigned supreme as one of
the single-most recognizable frontmen in the history of rock and roll.
He's the principal songwriter, driving force and the unwavering voice
of Kiss, one of the most successful and influential bands ever born on
American soil. Employing equal parts hip-grinding rhythm, full-tilt
glam and guitar-driven slam, Stanley single-handedly penned such
escapist anthems as "Love Gun," "God Of Thunder" and "Black Diamond."
He was the golden throat that throttled "Detroit Rock City," the
charismatic swagger behind "I Was Made For Lovin' You," and stripped
of makeup, was the unmasked troubadour that breathed vocal life into
the ballads "Reason To Live," "Forever" and "Every Time I Look At
You." Stanley's career with Kiss spans more than three decades and in
excess of 100 million records sold worldwide. His first solo album in
more than 25 years, LIVE TO WIN, is in stores now. In the words of
Stanley himself, "The album is called LIVE TO WIN, and I've already
won."

Solitude Aeternus was formed in 1987 by guitarist John Perez. It was
influenced by power metal bands (Metallica, Jag Panzer, Metal Church,
Fates Warning), the early crop of doom metal bands (Candlemass, St.
Vitus, Trouble, Pentagram), as also psychedelic and '70s hard rock.
Their debut INTO THE DEPTHS OF SORROW saw the light in July of 1991, a
whole year after the recording. The debut proved to be worthy of
patience -- the heavy, yet strangely sublime sound followed by
brilliant technique and a gloomy atmosphere proved that speed is not
what counts the most in metal. Limited edition of 2,000 hand-numbered
copies.

After releasing their debut LP SHATTERED EXISTENCE (1989) and the
follow-up FOR WHOSE ADVANTAGE (1990), Xentrix gained a well deserved
status of British thrash heroes. The popularity of the band was

Sepultura. Then it all came tumbling down, as the UK thrash scene
became more and more neglected by the fans and nearly collapsed in
1993. But Xentrix refused to simply step down and surrender their
career. Instead they made their most successful effort yet by
releasing their third and most intensive album, KIN. limited edition

Your Price: $ 16.95
Prebook Date*: 12/19/06
Street Date: 01/16/07
Description:
Realm definitely belongs among the hall of metal heroes, bringing
music that far surpassed its times, showing exactly how technical,
futuristic thrash metal should sound like. Realm's first album ENDLESS
WAR came in 1988. Some reviewers gave this album a "Bay Area thrash"
etiquette, yet the progressive elements found in each composition
makes the music all more difficult to define. One thing was certain --
all 11 tracks, along with the surprisingly enthusiastic cover version
of The Beatles' "Eleanor Rigby" (to this day mentioned as one of the
most successful metal covers ever made) were a testimony of technical
brilliance, revealed through high-speed guitar performance.
Song Titles:
Endless War, Slay The Oppressor, Eminence, Fate's Wind, Root Of Evil,
Eleanor Rigby, This House Is Burning, Second Coming, All Heads Will
Turn To The Hunt, Mang, Poisoned Minds. BONUS TRACK: Theseus And The

Description:
Realm definitely belongs among the hall of metal heroes, bringing
music that far surpassed its times, showing exactly how technical,
futuristic thrash metal should sound like. SUICIETY continues the
progressive thrash metal crusade started on ENDLESS WAR, bringing even
more brilliantly conjoined musical novelties. The band smoothed their
sound, giving it a lot more space and structure. But the heaviness
remained untouched -- the album kicks off with a perfectly balanced
thrash metal impact and keeps the listener overpowered until the last
minute of the record. Limited edition of 2,000 hand-numbered copies.
Song Titles:
Cain Rose Up (Scream Bloody Gore), Fragile Earth, Energentic
Discontent, Gateway, Final Solution, The Brainchild, LaFlamme's

character. ACT OF GOD remains one of the most thrilling and intense
metal productions of the '80s. It took the band only this release to
earn the status of classic and engrave the name Znowhite onto the
pages of metal history. ACT OF GOD definitely presented Znowhite at
its best -- full of insanely fast guitar riffs and fiery solos
conjoined with Nicole Lee's characteristic vocals, the record was a
speed metal masterpiece that appealed to each and every heavy music
fanatic. After the release of the album the band focused on live
performance, eventually breaking up. Limited edition of 2,000 hand-

Description:
Crimson Glory's origin reaches all the way to the '80s, when the band
emerged with a dazzling combination of early Queensryche style,
fascinating guitar melodies and distinctive, emotive vocals. With
their third album, Crimson Glory reached far beyond simple power metal
musicianship, replacing it with complex, precise songwriting,
controversial both in sound and structure. STRANGE AND BEAUTIFUL
turned out as an epic musical experience, filled with elements
borrowed from prog metal, as well as blues and hard rock. The album
was a definite turn in the group's career, and a risky move as well.
STRANGE AND BEAUTIFUL was a milestone for Crimson Glory.

Disincarnate was a part of the underground death metal movement of the

Cancer's DEATH SHALL RISE that Murphy gained his reputation as one of
death metal's primo axemen -- it only seemed natural that he form a
band of his own. Disincarnate recorded only one album during their
existence. DREAMS OF THE CARRION KIND, released in 1993 on Roadrunner
Records, was a minor masterwork of the death metal genre. This reissue
features liner notes from Murphy and bonus tracks.

-Summer Breeze News
Dear Summer Breeze community!
As you might have seen already the 2007 anniversary billing poll has
been finished. Nearly 4,000 of you have participated. Thanks a lot for
making it happen! Thirty participants have won and been informed
already.
As mentioned previously about half of the bands playing the main and
the pain stage are supposed to represent a sort of a "best-of" billing
of the past ten years. Therefore we started to book bands right after
the results were obvious. Three of the bands you voted Top 5 we could
engage quite quickly. Among which is the absolute winner of the poll
with a majority of votes of 30% more than position #2. That leaves no
doubts.
As it takes a bit more of time to go until we can start our yearly
advent calendar on December, 1st we will announce one of those first
three bands each of the upcoming three Saturdays at midnight.
Not only the tax rise but many other reasons forced us to do one price
including all services for the first time. Actually it hasn't become
more expensive but easier to handle during the festival. The
anniversary ticket will be 60,- EURO including all fees, party tent,
camping and parking!
Yes, you got it right. We have managed to get permission for a party
tent to celebrate our anniversary more adequately. It will be combined
with the beer garden. And starting on Wednesday we will try to serve
you with an interesting and entertaining daily programme containing
live shows, theatre, cinema, German "oompah" music and so on. Watch
out for details.
All that in addition to many other things we think is real value for
money.
60,- EURO for 4 days of full programme with 50 bands on two stages,
more action in the tent incl. Camping, parking and free toilettes --
no more hidden costs!
The early bird catches the worm!
Just five weeks after starting pre-sales without any band confirmed
most of the limited 1,000 tickets are sold. The remaining contingent
still is available in our online shop only for a special price of 55,-
EURO instead of 60,- EURO normal price. Despite that each of the
limited tickets comes with a free "SUMMER BREEZE - REHvolution" T-
shirt which cannot be bought separately or elsewhere. And as this
wasn't enough everybody buying a ticket until December 6th has the
chance to buy the 2006 merchandise for 50% off. Please check our
online shop for further details. Please note: this campaign is valid
only until December 6th or until the 1,000 tickets are sold out!!
Money needs to be credited on our account until eight days after
placing the order the latest as otherwise we need to cancel it!!
So "be quick or be dead"!
The mask for 2007 will be presented this weekend, too. For the first
time Jan Meininghaus created it. Last works are being done once again
by Thomas Ewerhard. And be assured, the boys did bloody well!
The deer formerly known as B***i!
The metal deer gets a new name. Check out
http://www.bambi-statt-helga.de/ to find a poll where you can choose a
new name. To avoid possible legal problems decision was made to change
the name.
Stay in touch

Currently on tour with labelmates Year Of Desolation, Burn In Silence
-- upon completing this tour -- will join up with Misery Index,
Intronaut and labelmates Yakuza for a run of dates from early November
into December. Staying busy this year has been the name of the game
for Burn In Silence, the band has already toured heavily throughout
2006 alongside The Autumn Offering, Too Pure To Die, Black My Heart
and headlining shows on their own, as well as appearing at Boston's
annual Locobazooka festival alongside Alice In Chains, Buckcherry and
Powerman 5000.
Already dubbed a Bay State up-and-comer by the Boston Herald and
hailed by Ruin magazine as "hands down, the best debut of the year,"
ANGEL MAKER was recorded with producer Ken Susi (Unearth) in late 2005
and early 2006, with Tue Madsen (Himsa, The Haunted) handling mixing
duties. The record is the follow-up to Burn In Silence's self-released
PURE AS YOUR FIRST DAY EP.

-Yakuza Extends Touring Plans, Continues With More Dates With
Intronaut
Chicago forward-thinking metal act Yakuza has extended touring plans
into December with a string of dates playing alongside the like-minded
Intronaut. Already teaming up with Intronaut for a string of dates
with Misery Index and labelmates Burn In Silence, Yakuza will soldier
on for another handful of dates, also meeting up with Stretch Arm
Strong and Vivisect along the way.
In other news, Yakuza frontman Bruce Lamont recently took part in the
making of a mix CD for charity. Helping out Chicago's Rock For Kids,
proceeds went to the organization. "The organization asks club owners,
musicians, writers, artists, etc. to put togther a mix CD and case and
they are auctioned off," Lamont recently told ChuckRoaster.com
(available here: http://www.chuckroaster.com/wordpress/?p=105 ). "This
is the 3rd year I have done it. The disc ended up going for $50. Thats
pretty cool." Lamont included Yakuza's "Monkeytail" from the band's
critically-lauded SAMSARA record.
Yakuza has already shared tour dates earlier this year with
Dysrhythmia, Isis, Behold...The Arctopus, 3, Cephalic Carnage, and The
Number 12 Looks Like You among others, as well as appearance at the
Eighth Annual New England Metal And Hardcore Festival, and with praise
from metal and indie press alike, Brave Words & Bloody Knuckles has
proclaimed that Yakuza's "foaming at the mouth musical delivery is
complemented by some of the raddest and most cohesively efficient song
structures out there." Meanwhile, Kerrang has labeled SAMSARA "a
stupefying collision of lumbering, fuzzed-up riffs, prog-jazz oddness
and warped psychedelia, played with enough shamanistic force to make
the sky collapse itself." Recorded with producer/engineer Matt Bayles
(Pearl Jam, Isis) in the band's hometown, SAMSARA features guest
appearances from pianist Jim Baker, cellist Fred Lonberg-Holm, Sanford
Parker, and Mastodon's Troy Sanders.

"This is extremity as art, uncompromising, dynamic, and unforgiving as
an avalanche of bricks. Hopefully, the rest of the metal world can
catch up to these cats in time to give SAMSARA the recognition it
deserves." - Blabbermouth
"...foaming at the mouth musical delivery is complemented by some of
the raddest and most cohesively efficient song structures out there."
- Brave Words & Bloody Knuckles
"...a stupefying collision of lumbering, fuzzed-up riffs, prog-jazz
oddness and warped psychedelia, played with enough shamanistic force
to make the sky collapse itself." - Kerrang
"The Chicago quartet's newest nose-bleeding excursions, free-jazz
workouts and tribal-drum barrages thrust thrash, hardcore, noise and
prog elements into a food processor, the songs eradicating conventions
as they bound between harsh heaviness and wander-through-the-desert
calmness." - Chicago Tribune
"It'd be easy to tag Yakuza as a prog-metal band and be done with it,
but that would somehow be selling its range and versatility (not to
mention its creativity) short. This is progressive only in the sense
that it is attempting to take the genre forward. But make no mistake:
This is a metal album, and a damn fine one at that." - Chord
"So scary, we think you'll crap your pants...This could be the next
step on for heavy music." - Metal Hammer
"Yakuza no longer have to whip out every trick in their book on every
track; they're now making music that, like the best jazz and rock,
develops organically as it goes along." - Alternative Press

"ProgPower USA will be held October 5-6, 2007 [at Center Stage Atlanta

Jewish holidays, and Atlanta conventions already booked in September

-You know how I know this past Monday's Paul Stanley concert at the
Chicago House Of Blues was good? Because Patrick, Sean, and I were all
there and nobody reviewed it. :) We were all digging the proceedings
too much to take notes for a review. And to boot, a live DVD was
filmed that night -- very cool! The set list was the same as what's
been floating around the 'net for this tour and the backing band --
the "House Band" from TV's "Rock Star" show -- was darn near flawless,
especially with the backing vocals. Paul had his usual funny stage
raps going, and it was a real treat to hear Kiss rarities "A Million
To One" and "Magic Touch." (And like its DYNASTY brother "I Was Made
For Lovin' You," "Magic Touch" was a lot heavier live.) There was no
mention of when or how the live DVD would be made available but it's a
safe bet we'll see it surface next spring.
Then in stark, STARK contrast to the Paul Stanley show, the House Of
Blues hosted Kevin "K-Fed" Federline last night. A guy here in my
office said they sold a whopping 38 tickets for the concert, so the
venue was giving away freebies by the armload. I'm sure the House
folks have rarely, if ever, seen such a drop-off in attendance from
one show to the next. The place was J-A-M-M-E-D for Mr. Stanley, and
it sounds like you coulda camped out with a couple lawn chairs and big
blankets on the floor for K-Fed.
-Didja see that press release above where MVD Audio is reissuing
Crimson Glory's 1991 misfire STRANGE AND BEAUTIFUL next year? And do
you remember all the hoopla last year when it was announced Crimson
Glory had reunited with original vocalist Midnight, signed with Black
Lotus Records, and all this cool stuff was going to come out? You
know, the band's s/t and TRANSCENCDENCE were to be reissued,
ASTRONOMICA was going to be re-recorded with Midnight's vocals, a new
live album, a new studio album, etc. -- basically everything *except*
STRANGE AND BEAUTIFUL. Funny how all that has apparently gone by the
wayside, yet the MVD folks are sneaking in and reissuing STRANGE AND
BEAUTIFUL. Weird.

IMAGES OF EDEN - SUNLIGHT OF THE SPIRIT (B+) IOE Music/Nightmare
Records, 2006
12 tracks, RT: 54:57
When I first put in Images Of Eden's SUNLIGHT OF THE SPIRIT I was half
expecting another Dream Theater clone, but boy was that expectation
wrong! Images Of Eden is the brainchild of Gordon Tittsworth who wrote
the music and provided vocals, bass and keyboards for the album along
with guitarist/keyboardist Dennis Mullin and drummer Matt Kaiser
(they've since added bassist Bryan Wierman to the group), and the band
has a lot to offer fans of progressive metal who are looking for
something unique. I suppose one of the first things evident in the
music of Images Of Eden is the vocal performance; a distinctive
amalgam of some of the best singers in metal, Gordon brings to mind
early Bruce Dickinson, Jon Deverill and Geoff Tate, often delivering
the band's interesting lyrical content with unusual sincerity and
passion. On tracks such as "Beyond The Horizon," "Aladdin," "Sunlight
Of The Spirit" and "Midnight's Tide," the band show their aptitude for
strong songwriting, tight musicianship and excellent production.
Kaiser's command of time is refreshing, as he is able to keep his
intricate rhythms interesting without resorting to ostentatious
techniques often common to the genre, and the rhythm guitar and
keyboard foundations are perfectly arranged. I would like to hear more
lead guitar on the next release, as some explosive solos would have
lifted this excellent disc to even higher levels, but overall SUNLIGHT
OF THE SPIRIT is a very impressive album that should stimulate a lot
of interest from fans of high quality metal...

LIGHT THIS CITY - FACING THE THOUSAND (C-) Prosthetic Records, 2006
10 tracks, RT: 40:03
The sticker on the front of the jewel case promises AN EPIC THRASH
ATTACK, and says that Light This City is "Metal's Most Promising Young
Band"...so why was I not excited in the least by this CD? Well...you
know how sometimes a band/album sounds GREAT till the vocalist opens
his or her mouth? That is unfortunately the case with Light This City.
These young 'uns hail from the hallowed ground of San Francisco's Bay
Area, known far and wide as the Birthplace of Thrash, so it would
stand to reason that the ability to make a helluva racket is imbedded
in their DNA. I'll grant that musically, Light This City definitely
have their you-know-what together. The guitar team of Brian Forbes and
Steve Hoffman lay down some mean-ass riffage and drummer Ben Murray
must have 12 legs, judging from the amount of drum abuse on FACING THE
THOUSAND. For comparison's sake, I'll say that I can hear the strains
of classic Metallica and vintage Testament in their music, mixed with
a healthy dose of At The Gates/In Flames style melodo-death metal.
It's a potent musical package, but what kills this disc for me are the
vocals of Laura Nichol. Before you bombard me with hate mail accusing
me of being sexist, I want to make it clear that I have no trouble at
all with female fronted metal bands; however, I have never been a fan
of the grunted, "extreme" vocal style, and that's what Miss Nichol
trades in all over FACING THE THOUSAND. She seems to have two weapons
in her vocal arsenal -- the death metal WOOOOARRRRRGH and the hardcore
"bark bark bark bark," neither of which have ever been high on my list
of favorites, so when she cuts loose with her first scream at the
beginning of album opener "Facing The Thousand," I just went "Hoo
boy," and had a feeling that I was in for a long night when it came
time to review this one. Light This City seem to be one of those bands
that packs a helluva lot of lyrics into each song too, so after a
while I found myself wishing for an instrumental track, or for someone
to stick a rag in Laura's mouth just so I could listen to the band for
a while without her yowling over the top of everything. As a Detritus
reviewer, I pride myself on listening to every promotional CD I
receive several times over so that I can give it a fair and balanced
review, but in Light This City's case, it was a chore just getting
through the CD twice. I suppose if you're a twenty-something who goes
to the Sounds Of The Underground tour every year, or a high school
mall rat that buys your CDs at Hot Topic, this will be right up your
alley; however, for an old traditionally-minded bastard like me, Light
This City merely had me wishing that the album would be over, and
soon. Sorry guys, I wish Light This City all the luck in the world but
I gotta call 'em as I see 'em.

ALEX MASI - LATE NIGHT AT DESERT RIMROCK (A-) Lion Music, 2006

Alex Masi is back with more terrifying guitar excursions on his latest
solo disc LATE NIGHT AT DESERT RIMROCK, and this is some fantastic
experimental shred for those intrepid souls prepared for Alex's
devastating musicianship and technique. Originating from some informal
jam sessions with drummer extraordinaire John Macaluso, LATE NIGHT AT
DESERT RIMROCK will have even advanced players scratching their heads
at how these guys lock in so tight and deliver such stunning
performances on the fly. Really, the opening salvo of "Vagina Denata"
(you gotta love the song titles!) and follow-up chiller "You Asked"
should put you away pretty good, but if you are still vertical after
those beasts you'll surely be floored by "Antistructure," a wicked
fusiony number fueled not only by Alex's otherworldly guitar work but
also his highly skilled, driving bass attack (yeah, he plays
everything but the drums on this bad boy!). Macaluso demonstrates
drumming of the highest caliber, nailing odd times and complicated
patterns with practiced ease on pieces like "Asparagus Piss,"
"Tiktaalik In Evolution" and "Is You Is Or Is You Ain't?" Alex has
never made a secret of the fact that he was heavily influenced by
fusion greats Allan Holdsworth and Shawn Lane and it shows all over
LATE NIGHT AT DESERT RIMROCK. With the addition of a bassist for live
performances, this would be some kind of intense spectacle to behold!
Bizarre and even disturbing in places, the music on LATE NIGHT AT
DESERT RIMROCK is not going to be easily accessible to those not
familiar with jazz, but for those acclimated or inclined to throw
caution to the wind, you won't find a better representation of free-
form shred. Amazing...

Prog metal is everywhere these days and Tomorrow's Eve are here to
throw their hat in the ring with a powerful follow-up to 2003's MIRROR
OF CREATION. Starting off with an Evergrey-styled intro the band
launch into the decidedly Dream Theater-inspired crunch of "Amnesia,"
showing a strong grasp of expected prog metal skills. Next up is
"Pain" and here we are treated to a heavier animal, new vocalist
Martin LeMar (Lalu) especially good at conveying aggression with
intensity. A few average tracks ensue but then we are introduced to
the truly excellent "The Market Of Umbra," with a riff to die for and
some emotionally satisfying vocals from LeMar. Female vocals appear on
"Not From This World" and honestly this is beginning to sound just a
bit cliched, but it's done well and does provide some sonic variation.
Another killer riff hits us on "Irreversible" and there is some really
skillful and spirited playing on tracks like "Human Device" and epic
closer "The Trials Of Man." The production is OK but a bit raw and I
can't help thinking I've heard a lot of this before but Tomorrow's Eve
play with such fire and conviction that you can forgive some of the
similarity in sound to their peers. I suspect Tomorrow's Eve would be
a killer band to see live and I look forward to hearing them progress
on subsequent albums. Good stuff with lots of potential...
