-Brainstorm Reissues Coming Soon!
Metal Blade Records Europe will reissue the first two Brainstorm
albums HUNGRY and UNHOLY with tons of bonus material!
Both albums will be released on the 23rd of March (G/A/S) / 26th of
March (Europe). Both albums (two-CD Double Digi-paks) will be
available for the price of a regular CD!
Here's what Torsten Ihlenfeld (guitar) has to say about the packages
as well as the complete track listing:
"When we played our tour for LIQUID MONSTER we realised after a few
glasses of Wine that in 2007 it would be ten years since the release
of our debut album HUNGRY. Besides the typical whining around how fast
time flies by, etc... we also came up with something creative. Why not
re-releasing the debut album as well as its successor UNHOLY? Both
records were not available anymore for quite some time and the timing
seemed perfect to us. No new album in 2007, but two re-issues of our
first two albums. Of course we didn't just want to re-release the
albums in their original versions, so, after searching the archives,
we found some really cool bonus material to include. Next up it was
clear that we wanted to remaster both albums and even re-mix the
HUNGRY album if in any way possible -- and we did!!! This is
definitely the best possible sound you can get of the first two
Brainstorm albums! Compare them to the originals which are included as
a bonus in the very same package(s)."
Both albums will also include renewed front art and booklets!
"About the bonus material (remastered as well!) -- The HUNGRY album
includes our 5TH SEASON demo from 1994 with six songs and a running
time of 30 minutes. This demo gives you the chance to travel to the
very early days of the band and yes, we are still very proud of the
demo and quite satisfied with it! UNHOLY includes two demos, HEART OF
HATE from 1993 and the PROMO 96 demo, plus the original Japanese bonus
track of UNHOLY. 5 songs in total clocking in at over 25 minutes.
"We as a band celebrate the first decade of Brainstorm releases with
these re-issues and we hope you guys out there enjoy these albums as
much as we still do!
"On another note -- a Brainstorm DVD is in the works where you can
(among tons of other stuff) also see footage from the old days. We
hope to release the DVD by the end of June, 2007.
"And to all those asking for a new album, be cool! A new Brainstorm
album will be recorded later on this year to be released in early
2008! We will continue our crusade and hope the next decade will be
even more successful than the first one!"

-Marty Friedman Releases New Album In The U.S.
LOUDSPEAKER - Shrapnel Records Release On March 13th, 2007
HOLLYWOOD -- LOUDSPEAKER is an album that will change all
preconceptions about instrumental albums. It is an emotionally fueled
work of genius, mixed with brilliant guitar solo mastery that has
become Marty Friedman's signature.
LOUDSPEAKER features guest appearances by Steve Vai, John Petrucci,
Mick Karn and Billy Sheehan. "For me it was a big experiment,"
Friedman explains. "I knew they were amazing, but I wanted to get
these guys to play the most aggressive way they could because as a fan
I really wanted to hear them like I never heard them before -- in a
full metal context."
LOUDSPEAKER is an aggressive, passionate and absorbing collection of
that exposes the beauty and the beast in Friedman's personality.
Friedman reveals his true diversity with the hypnotic opening strains
of "Stigmata Addiction" to a poignant rendering of "Coloreas Mi Vida."
The album continually travels between moments of claustrophobic
density "Black Orchid" to the razor-sharp shred of "Elixir."
Marty Friedman began his career as a Shrapnel solo recording artist
and later joined forces with Jason Becker to form the unrivaled dual
guitar unit, Cacophony, who have a strong influence on today's top
guitarists. Amassing worldwide acclaim as a guitar superstar, he came
to the attention of Megadeth and the rest is history. Racking up sales
of over 10 million records with Megadeth, Friedman continued to record
solo records, often embarking on adventurous musical forays far
removed from his work with Megadeth, including an album with Golden
Globe winner Kitaro.
In a bold move, he left the legendary Megadeth to pursue new musical
goals and has succeeded tremendously. Friedman's many accomplishments
make him currently the only musician to be a fixture in the top class
of the Japanese domestic as well as international music scene. His
music performance (songs from LOUDSPEAKER) on national TV with the
Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, to charting high with his own music and
with Japan's top artists, has spurred Friedman into new celebrity
territory.
Now residing in Tokyo, Friedman has become a television celebrity
appearing as a regular on five major networks, he can be seen on
mainstream hit TV programs almost every day in Japan . "It's all these
insane experiences the last couple years in Japan that couldn't be
musically farther from my roots that make it so rewarding to make an
all-out aggressive album now," recalls Friedman.
LOUDSPEAKER is exactly the kind of record that Friedman fans have been
waiting for. It is heavy, melodic and digs down deep to his roots, and
in spots reminiscent in style of his best selling Shrapnel solo record
DRAGON'S KISS.
LOUDSPEAKER will be released on March 13th, 2007 in the U.S. For more
information click to http://www.martyfriedman.com/ or

MOONLIGHT COMEDY - DOROTHY
Moonlight Comedy were formed in 1998 in Italy and immediately started

-Stairway To Hell
The Ultimate Off-Broadway Head-Banging Experience
Randy Weiner, the producer of legendary Las Vegas sensation Beacher's
Madhouse, and The Donkey Show are proud to announce the latest of
their first Off-Broadway New York venture, "Stairway To Hell." Taking
place at Snitch rock n roll lounge in West Chelsea, the boys will
bring the same debauched madness that made previous shows instant cult
classics. (What to expect): pure insanity fueled by high metal energy,
orgiastic antics and hard rockin music...half naked go-go dancers, S&M
midgets, a bloody buffet of treats from the devil, an orgasm contest,
blow-up dolls, and drug use and abuse¦ they take the extreme to the
extreme.
"Stairway To Hell" is the ultimate Off-Broadway head banging
experience. The show tells the ghastly tale of Wart Hog, the world's
greatest metal tribute band. The band is tragically killed during
their botched attempt to break the world record for onstage
pyrotechnics. Somehow on the journey to the afterlife, they
accidentally end up in heaven. Faced with the horror of an eternity
spent in heaven, our band of hard rockers petition the Devil for one
last concert here on earth to prove to him they, the most evil band in
history, belong in hell. This final concert is STAIRWAY TO HELL. Will
the band succeed? Or will Lucifer have other plans for the Hog?
Sometimes sex, drugs and rock-n-roll aren't enough!
Featuring all live covers of all your metal favorites, Guns N' Roses,
Black Sabbath, Motley Crue, Iron Maiden, and many, many more!

Combining intense incendiary live shows that will leave you open-

compositions that transcend the normal death metal style, there's no
doubting that Gojira are an exceptional band. And one that, in the 10

underground like (their namesake) Godzilla from the sea, breaking
through the confines of the scene that spawned them, hungry to spread
their message of environmentalism and spirituality across the globe,
hungry to make the world a better place and hungry for success. And
like Godzilla before them, Gojira are flattening all competition in
their wake -- thanks to the growing critical acclaim that their

-Is it just me or has the Van Halen reunion kind of been met with a
collective yawn? I really haven't heard anyone talking about it, other
than the occasional "There's *no* way Wolfgang can possibly hack it
live." I just wonder how much they're going to charge for tickets, and
whether or not the venues will sell out. I'm sure the fans will turn
out in droves, but for some reason something kinda feels like this is
a few years too late to really be a huge deal. I guess I'm not sure
exactly how much I care...
The Heaven & Hell thing, on the other hand, now *there's* a "reunion"
gig I'd love to see. I've been to several Dio shows but I've never
seen any incarnation of Black Sabbath live before. I feel compelled to
see Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler in person at least once before it's
all said and done. How many more opportunities will there be?
-Now in my current playlist: Dokken - FROM CONCEPTION: LIVE 1981
(Rhino), 3 Legged Dogg - FROZEN SUMMER (Perris Records), Vixen - LIVE
& LEARN (Demolition Records), Wuthering Heights - THE SHADOW CABINET
(Sensory), Vitalij Kuprij - GLACIAL INFERNO + REVENGE (Lion Music).

O.S.I. - RE: FREE (B-/C+) Inside Out Music, 2006
3 tracks, RT: 25:57, multimedia section
[ info@... ]
This is a rather strange release -- essentially an EP of three re-
mixed songs off last year's FREE album, RE: FREE also serves up a
pretty bizarre but interesting video for the title track. If you're
really into the sort of detached, impersonal electronica these guys
deliver, you may enjoy the groove of "Kicking" or the eerie atmosphere
of "Home Was Good," but the 10-minute version of "Go" simply goes on
too long in the same hypnotic fashion, with repetitive drums and
"warped record" sounding keyboards spiced up only by video game-style
effects. Dream Theater and Fates Warning completists might wish to add
this to their collection due to the personnel involved, but even
diehard O.S.I. fans may not need anything on here except the video...

SPOCK'S BEARD (B) Inside Out Music, 2006
14 tracks, RT: 77:05

[ info@... ]
It's always strange to see a band release a self-titled album after
they've been around for so many years, and in the case of Spock's
Beard it's their ninth (!) album that gets the s/t moniker. I suppose
they are making a statement that they are steadfast in their
resolution to retain their identity despite the absence of Neal Morse
and a move towards a more modern progressive rock sound. SPOCK'S BEARD
begins promisingly with the excellent "On A Perfect Day," Nick
D'Virgillio's heartfelt vocals reflecting sincerity and clever
melodicism. "Skeletons At The Feast" is a busy instrumental with all
the tricky time changes, slippery bass work and complex
guitar/keyboard interplay one could want from a prog outfit. "With
Your Kiss" is one of those songs that starts off rather mellow and
uneventful but eventually turns into an interestingly funky jam, while
"Wherever You Stand" has a cool '70s riff and chorus. Some of the best
material can be found within the four-part "As Far As The Mind Can
See," (especially on Part 2: "He's A Man" and Part 4: "Stream Of
Unconsciousness"), but unless you have unusual stamina for prog rock
you might have to listen to the album in manageable bits as it runs on
a little too long. The album boasts excellent production and
musicianship, and although I feel it could have been edited to create
a more exciting flow, it should definitely be in the collection of all
Spock's Beard fans. A good example of modern progressive rock.
