-Rhino's HEAVY METAL BOX Literally Goes To 11

The Heavy Metal Box Features 70 Songs Spotlighting the Genre's First
Golden Age Between 1968 and 1991 Including Music From Iron Maiden,
Deep Purple, Metallica, Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, Iron Butterfly,
Pantera, Alice Cooper, Venom, Testament, Motorhead, Slayer, Rush,
Megadeth, Kiss and More

Four-Disc Boxed Set, Packaged to Resemble an Amplifier With an
Authentic Marshall Knob, Will Be Available October 2 From Rhino

LOS ANGELES -- Heavy metal is not for the faint of heart. The songs
don't want you to dance, shake, spin, or jump. They insist that you
bang your head. Forget nuances or subtlety, heavy metal's main concern
is kicking your ass. Rhino dives into the mosh pit with a four-disc
collection of musical wickedness that packs more fire and brimstone
than an Aleister Crowley barbeque. THE HEAVY METAL BOX will be
available October 2 at all retail outlets and at http://www.rhino.com/
for a suggested price of $64.98. The set will be offered in limited
edition packing that resembles an amplifier. In a nod to Spinal Tap --
whose song "Big Bottom" is included in the set -- the faux-amp box
features an authentic, turn-able Marshall knob allowing you to
literally turn it up to 11.

Arranged chronologically, the compilation gathers 70 choice selections
from various record labels tracing the evolution of metal during its
first golden age between 1968 and 1991. THE HEAVY METAL BOX presents
more than five hours of blistering fury guaranteed to send devil horn
salutes in the air.

The genre's progenitors get their due with the supreme heaviness of
Iron Butterfly's "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" and the hoodlum metal mania of
Blue Cheer's cover of "Summertime Blues." "From that point on,"
renowned metal journalist Mick Wall writes in the boxed set's
meticulous liner notes, "the floodgates were thrown wide open as a
whole slew of next-generation rock bands, disenchanted by the empty
promises of the so-called love generation, arrived like drunken,
rabble-rousing gate-crashers at the party, intent on ripping up the
rulebook, throwing love out the window -- along with all the flowers
-- and replacing them with a distinctly unsettling ambience all their
own. From here on in, rock music would no longer be a dance. It would
be an arena to do battle in."

Along with Wall's detailed history of metal, the boxed set's
exhaustive liner notes also include rare photos, a track-by-track
commentary, Ronnie James Dio discussing metal's infamous mano cornuta
salute (a.k.a. "The Horns"), Lita Ford reflecting on her role as the
"first lady of metal," multiple artist tributes, and more.

THE HEAVY METAL BOX invokes some of metal's biggest names with Alice
Cooper's "Billion Dollar Babies"; Black Sabbath's "Neon Knights";
"Highway Star" by "the loudest group in the world," Deep Purple; Iron
Maiden's "The Phantom Of The Opera" with singer Paul Di'Anno and "The
Number Of The Beast" with singer Bruce Dickinson; Judas Priest's "The
Ripper" and "You've Got Another Thing Comin'"; Metallica's "Whiplash"
and uber-doom-ballad "One"; Megadeth's searing political statement
"Peace Sells"; Slayer's soul crushing "South Of Heaven"; and Pantera's
marriage of metal and hardcore on "Cowboys From Hell." The boxed set
also includes songs by Ted Nugent, Kiss, W.A.S.P., Diamond Head,
Venom, Living Colour, and a pair of tracks featuring leather-lunged
Lemmy Kilmister who appears on Hawkwind's "Lost Johnny" and
Motorhead's "Ace Of Spades."

Metal is an immense genre and this collection spotlights its many
offshoots including progressive metal (Rush's "Working Man," Mercyful
Fate's "Black Funeral," Queensryche's "Queen Of The Reich," and
Prong's "Beg To Differ"); black metal (Angel Witch's "White Witch" and
Venom's "Witching Hour"); thrash/speed metal (Testament's "Trial By
Fire," Raven's "Star War," Overkill's "Wrecking Crew," and Anthrax's
"Caught In A Mosh"); boogie metal (Rose Tattoo's "Nice Boys");
Christian metal (Stryper's "To Hell With The Devil"); party metal
(Fastway's "Say What You Will" and Krokus' "Midnite Maniac"); and
death metal (Sepultura's "Dead Embryonic Cells").

While America and Britain were metal's primary foundries, they were
certainly not the only ones. Australia birthed the fast 'n' nasty Rose
Tattoo while Germany proffered newly minted, power-first outfits like
the Michael Schenker Group and Accept. From the deceptively sleepy
Switzerland came the manic Krokus while Sweden yielded a genuine
guitar god in the Ritchie Blackmore-obsessed Yngwie J. Malmsteen. Even
Japan came up with their own version of the phenomenon in the aptly-
named Loudness.

In the '80s, MTV helped bring the hair metal movement into homes
across the nation making bands such as Dokken, Ratt, Hanoi Rocks, Skid
Row, Whitesnake, Cinderella, Poison, Twisted Sister, and Quiet Riot
famous hitmakers. "By the end of the '80s," Wall writes, "heavy metal
had come full circle to the point where it was simultaneously riven by
so many new categories and subgenres that you needed an encyclopedia
to make sense of it all -- and yet it was more universally popular
than ever before."

-Scorpions Ready To Sting With New album, HUMANITY - HOUR 1, Out
August 28

Guest Appearance By Smashing Pumpkins Singer Billy Corgan

U.S. Tour Starts September 4

[Note: This came to use from Gilbert Morton over at
http://scorpsnews.com/ -- thanks! - Tim]

Scorpions, Germany's most successful international music export, are
poised to "sting" once again and are planning a frontal attack on the
musical artery of rock fans all over the globe with their new album,
HUMANITY - HOUR 1. Thirty-five years after the release of their debut
album, LONESOME CROW, Scorpions believe they have reached a new
creative high in their impressive career. They plan to prove it with
the release of album #21 on August 28 (New Door Records/UMe).

Smashing Pumpkins singer/guitarist Billy Corgan makes a special
appearance on the album as a featured guest on "The Cross."

The band -- Klaus Meine (vocals), Rudolf Schenker (rhythm guitars),
Matthias Jabs (lead guitars), James Kottak (drums) and Pawel Maciwoda
(bass) -- enlisted acclaimed songwriter/producer Desmond Child
(Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, Kiss) and producer James Michael to work behind
the boards on the album, which was recorded at several Los Angeles
studios. "Desmond is a fabulous visionary who took us to musical
levels we had never reached before," declares lead guitarist Jabs.

The fruit of this extremely productive collaboration is an album that
melds the classic hard Scorpions sound with modern elements of today's
musical style. HUMANITY - HOUR 1 is a mature concept album, with
lyrics that are often provocative and deal with the dark sides of the
world we live in. Such is the case with the timely first single,
"Humanity," a song filled with the band's renowned melodies, big
guitars and global awareness. A video for the track can be found on
the band's official Web site ( http://www.the-scorpions.com/ ) and on
YouTube.com.

"At the same time, though, we are sending our fans a positive musical
message, telling them not to let the insanity going on around us every
day get them down," explains Meine, who considers HUMANITY - HOUR 1 to
be the most powerful album since the global success of CRAZY WORLD in
1991. "The new album will feature the great power-rock ballads, of
course, but we have been and we remain a rock band, and people who go
for hard but melodic songs will love this album."

"As exciting as it is to work on new songs in the studio, when it
comes right down to it, we are a die-hard live performance band that
really shifts into overdrive when we hit the stage," says Schenker.
"Direct contact with our fans is our biggest source of inspiration,"
continues Meine.

And that's one significant factor explaining why the band's calendar
is already quite full for this year. "Humanity World Tour 2007/2008"
will take Scorpions through Europe, South America, and Asia. They land
in the U.S. starting September 4 in Sault Ste. Marie, MI. Dates
through September 30 are being confirmed and will be posted on the
band's official Web site in the coming days.

Scorpions -- who've sold more than 70 million albums worldwide --
still fill the biggest stadiums in the world each year, performing in
front of hundreds of thousands of enthusiastic fans. In early March,
the band returned to Moscow to give a concert in the Kremlin at the
invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin -- an honor granted to
relatively few Western artists. For decades, their power-packed live
shows have been among the few events that broke records for sold out
shows in the U.S.A., Canada and many European countries.

Since its release in Europe and Asia in May, HUMANITY - HOUR 1 has
been a smash in various countries as well as on various album charts:

Greece: #1
Russia: #5
Argentina: #8
Germany: #9
Japan: #16
France: #16
Switzerland: #27
Finland: #29
Sweden: #36
Austria: #41
Italy: #44
Czech Republic: #47
Spain: #59
Netherlands: #91
Mexico: #97

-Acclaimed Prog Rock Band Rocket Scientists Tempts Fans With Video
Teaser On YouTube

EL DORADO HILLS, CA -- Acclaimed American progressive rock legends
Rocket Scientists have posted the video "Earthbound" from their 2007
recording sessions on YouTube as a precurser to their forthcoming box
set release Rocket Scientists - LOOKING BACKWARD. The highly
anticipated release is scheduled for mid-October on the Think Tank
Media label, distributed in North America by ProgRock Records. The
video was recorded in the same Los Angeles area studio where Rocket
Scientists recorded their earlier albums. The band reunited to record
updated versions of some of their previously released material
specifically for the box set.

In 2006, Rocket Scientists' epic double CD release, REVOLUTION ROAD,
exceeded sales expectations prior to its November 7th street date when
pre-sales orders catapulted the CD into a second pressing, even after
the band's eight year hiatus. Enthusiastic reviews appeared worldwide
in publications such as ProgressiveWorld, The Doorway, Burrn!, Euro
Rock Press, Empire, Strange Days, Sea Of Tranquility, and Music Street
Journal. The Sea Of Tranquility readers even voted REVOLUTION ROAD as
the Best CD of 2006.

Rocket Scientists were formed in the late 1980s by keyboardist Erik
Norlander and vocalist / guitarist Mark McCrite. The two released
their first CD EARTHBOUND in 1993 joined by then-session bassist Don
Schiff. Schiff quickly became a part of the band for their second
release in 1995 BRUTAL ARCHITECTURE, and the three toured in the U.S.
and Europe in 1997 along with drummer Tommy Amato culminating in the
live CD EARTH BELOW AND SKY ABOVE: LIVE IN EUROPE AND AMERICA. In
1999, Rocket Scientists released OBLIVION DAYS, raising the bar on
already high expectations. At the turn of the century, Norlander,
Schiff and McCrite all worked on solo projects in addition to backing
symphonic rock vocal icon Lana Lane on several tours around the world.
The latest release is the band's fourth studio album REVOLUTION ROAD,
a double CD released in the fall of 2006, their strongest and most
successful title to date. In October the band will release LOOKING
BACKWARD, a five-disc retrospective box set containing remastered
versions of the band's first three studio albums along with a full-
length CD of new recordings and remixes plus a DVD filmed during the
recording sessions containing in-studio performance footage along with
extensive interviews and archival session video dating back to 1993.

-The Chris Duarte Group Release New Project BLUE VELOCITY On Blues
Bureau Records July 31st

Summer Tour Starts August 2007

HOLLYWOOD -- The Chris Duarte Group releases their fifth blues/rock
masterpiece on Blues Bureau Records. The band emerged on the scene out
of Austin, Texas in the early '90s and gained notoriety after wowing a
packed room of industry insiders at the South X Southwest convention.
In the wake of Stevie Ray Vaughan's passing, Duarte quickly gained a
national reputation as a young man imbued with a playing style
comparable at times to the late guitarist.

After fielding interest from a number of labels, Duarte signed to
Silvertone Records and his debut album TEXAS SUGAR/STRAT MAGIK
reportedly sold in excess of 100,000 units in the United States, no
small feet for a blues/rock guitarist. This, coupled with Duarte's
strong commitment to touring, was the impetus for his winning the
"Best New Talent Award" in Guitar Player's 1995 Reader's Poll. He also
finished fourth in the magazine's "Best Blues Guitarist" category that
year behind legends Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy and B.B. King.

Throughout the last decade, Duarte honed his chops as a guitarist,
songwriter and singer as he recorded three more critically acclaimed
records, TAILSPIN HEADWHACK in 1997, LOVE IS GREATER THAN ME in 2000
and ROMP in 2003, the latter two of which were on the Zoe/Rounder
label. Not one to rest on his laurels, Duarte has constantly worked on
his growth as a musician and the years of recording and touring have
culminated purposefully in BLUE VELOCITY, a record which aptly
showcases many sides of this brilliant artist in the context of high
energy blues rock with moments that bring to mind legendary artists as
diverse as Stevie Ray Vaughan, Robin Trower, Jimi Hendrix and Eric
Johnson.

Along the way if this amazing career, the Chris Duarte Group has
hammered out the groove on countless stages, logging a good half a

-Susperia Update

It's been a while since our last update, so time to do some catching
on what's been going on with the band.

Our tour with W.A.S.P. and the short U.K. tour in April and May was
hectic but successful, however it wasn't without problems. We had to
cancel the dates in Sweden due to illness throughout the band and
crew. We were all hit by a bug that was going around and Athera lost
his voice. We apologize to anyone who wanted to see the band, we are
trying to set some shows up soon. Thanks to everyone who came along to
the shows.

CUT FROM STONE: Tabu Records - Europe / Candlelight Records - U.S.A.

The album is now out in Europe and U.S.A./Canada. It's getting some
great reactions. Check out the reviews at
http://www.forumforfree.com/viewtopic.php?t=95&mforum=susperia !!

Thanks to everyone who has bought the album.

We are pleased to announce that it entered the Norwegian National
Artist charts at Number 18 when it was released in April.

CUT FROM STONE was released in the U.S.A. and North America on 19th
June through Candlelight Records USA and it's got off to a great start
over there. In the first week of release it was the Number 1 most
added album on the influential CMJ Loud Rock and FMQB radio reports.
This means that a hell of a lot of stations are playing Susperia.

So get on to your local station and demand that they play more
Susperia!

U.S.A. Tour

There is some confusion over the U.S.A. tour with Edguy in September.
Unfortunately Susperia will not be doing this tour.

Tjodalv On Road To Recovery

Our drummer Tjodalv is making a quicker than expected recovery
following his accident earlier this year and he will soon take his
first steps towards getting back behind his kit. In the meantime
Tjodalv would like to personally thank everyone who took the time to
send him messages of support.

-Tower Of Power On Tour

With 39 years of recording and touring experience behind them, Tower
Of Power still garners reviews calling them a "very contemporary
sounding band." Melding jazz, funk, rock and soul in a way no group
ever has, the ten-piece outfit is, according to the Hollywood
Reporter, "tighter than a clenched fist."

Well known in the '70s for tunes such as "What Is Hip?" and "You're
Still A Young Man," Tower Of Power toured with Sly Stone and Credence
Clearwater Revival, creating traffic jams when they started to
headline their own shows. They performed on records with Elton John,
Smokey Robinson, Rod Stewart, Aerosmith, and Dionne Warwick, and
influenced a generation of musicians (including Sting, who has told
Emilio Castillo, founder of the group, that he once had a "Tower Of
Power clone band" before he formed The Police). In the 1980s, they
backed Huey Lewis And The News for his world tours. They continued to
play their own music in between Lewis' gigs.

Tower Of Power is experiencing a renaissance, touring most of every
year and packing venues in the United States, the Pacific Rim, and all
over Europe with its audience of new and old fans. Joined by a new
singer, Larry Braggs, who Emilio Castillo described as "the best
singer we've had since the '70s," the group released their album
OAKLAND ZONE on Or Music in 2003, and have started work on a new album
which will be covers of classic soul hits.

On June 6, 2004 The California Music Association inducted Tower Of
Power with a Lifetime Achievement Award and cited their 2003 Sony
Legacy anthology HAVIN' FUN as soul/R&B album of the year, beating our
releases by En Vougue and Raphael Saadaq. In 2006, original guitarist
Bruce Conte returned to the group, making half the lineup featuring
original band members, who are also: David Garibaldi, Emilio, Doc
Kupka, Rocco Prestia. Prestia took a break last summer for heart
surgery, but he has returned to the band. It has been a long, hard
road, but lately things keep getting better and better.

When asked to describe the band's music, the group members give a
variety of responses. Says Emilio, "What Tower plays is soul music."
Former Tower saxophonist Lenny Pickett, now musical director for the
"Saturday Night Live" band says, "TOP is the world's best rhythm and
blues band." In reality, TOP's horn-driven, in-your-face sound is all
its own. Read more about Tower Of Power at http://www.bumpcity.com/ .

-New MVD Exclusive Title: Jon Anderson - THE MOTHER'S DAY CONCERT

In 1996 Jon Anderson and a group of musicians took to the stage in a
beautiful Californian winery to perform a unique set of Yes and
Vangelis, and solo songs. Jon's recollections of the show form the
basis of his liner notes, and are accompanied by colour pictures. The
show wasn't recorded officially, but thanks to hours of tireless
investigative work, recordings were found in private hands. This
recording has been re-mastered and the sound quality is the best
example of this recording. The quality of this recording can be
compared to FM broadcasts.

-Lillian Axe Roar Back On Metro City Records Label With A New Album,
WATERS RISING, Extensive U.S. Tour Confirmed

After an extended hiatus that left many fans wondering if they'd ever
see the group up and running again, melodic metallists Lillian Axe
have risen from the ashes and are preparing their first all-new studio
album since 1993's highly regarded PSYCHOSCHIZOPHRENIA. Led by
founding guitarist Steve Blaze, Lillian Axe earned the respect of
"Headbanger's Ball" viewers coast to coast with such releases as
1988's self-titled debut and 1992's POETIC JUSTICE -- the latter of
which saw the band turn a blind eye to the then-burgeoning grunge
sound and stick to their stylistic guns.

"After having been signed to four different labels in our history, we
learned a lot about what a label should provide and what to look for
in a relationship with one," explains Blaze. "What we wanted now was
hard work and a label that understands what Lillian Axe was about and
what we were trying to accomplish. We are a different breed of animal
and not always easy to put in a nice little package with a bow on top.
I met Tim Koukos through my longtime friend and associate Chip
Ruggieri whose opinions I greatly value. He said he had found the
perfect home for Lillian. Tim immediately was straightforward and told
me of his label and plans for the future."

Screaming Ferret head Koukos shares Blaze's enthusiasm for the newly
aligned union between label and band. "The more I talked to Steve the
more I could see were this image of the band that I have in my mind
comes from. I don't think I've met a more modest man in this industry
yet. Besides being a sophisticated and complex songwriter he has his
hand in movies and acting. A true artistic vision with realistic and
down to earth morals and values that's reflected in the music. I
swear, every time I hang up the phone with him I say to myself, 'What
a cool dude...'"

Opening for the likes of Ratt, Poison, Queensryche, Krokus, Stryper
and Lita Ford, working with some of rock's most respected producers
and scoring several "Headbanger's Ball" approved video clips, Lillian
Axe certainly carved (or perhaps more appropriately, chopped) a niche
for themselves with metalheads worldwide during the '80s and '90s. And
now, after an extended hiatus, the group -- which is now comprised of
Derrick LeFevre (lead vocals), Steve Blaze (lead guitars/vocals), Sam
Poitevent (guitars/vocals), Eric Morris (bass), and Ken Koudelka
(drums) -- has unleashed their first new studio album in nearly
fifteen years (and first for the Metro City Records label), titled
WATERS RISING.

"We have spent the last three years getting this record done, in four
different locations, and we have gone through a complete metamorphosis
mentally and physically," explains Blaze. "It's a different
environment in the music industry these days yet the spirit and soul
in creating music has stayed the same in the Lillian Axe camp. My
engineer, Rob Hovey, and I spent many hours experimenting with
different approaches to this record, but it always came back to the
same formula: do what we do, period."

Blaze also offered some insight regarding several favorite individual
tracks from WATERS RISING. "The song 'Quarantine' deals with
germaphobia -- I suffer from this condition. I deal sometimes with the
'dirtiness' of the world by living in a very clean, pristine, and
organized environment. 'The 2nd Of May' speaks of child disappearance
and the theories behind the inability to find so many missing people.
'Fields Of Yesterday' would be Lillian Axe's 'Stairway To Heaven' or
'Bohemian Rhapsody.' The one song that encompasses the pieces
sonically and emotionally that are the quintessential elements of that
group. It is about eight minutes long and has a mid-section which
capsulates the history of man's existence in an ethereal interlude
which soars and then slams back to reality. '5' is an instrumental in
which I used about 80 guitar tracks. I attempted to touch on many
different aspects of the instrument from arpeggios to clean picking to
orchestration to heavy blues riffs to speed riffing to manipulation
feedback. It took a while, as I wrote it as we recorded it, but the
fanatic end result was just what I intended."

Originally formed in 1983, the New Orleans-based group soon caught the
attention of Ratt manager Marshall Berle and MCA Records, leading to
the release of the group's self-titled 1988 release (produced by late
Ratt guitarist Robbin Crosby), 1989's LOVE + WAR (produced by Tony
Platt, who previously worked with AC/DC), 1991's OUT OF THE DARKNESS
INTO THE LIGHT, 1992's POETIC JUSTICE, and 1993's PSYCHOSCHIZOPHRENIA
(the last two of which were produced by Leif Mases, who previously
worked with Led Zeppelin). Additionally, such Lillian Axe tracks as
"Dream Of A Lifetime," "Show A Little Love," "True Believer," and a
cover of Badfinger's "No Matter What" received attention from rock
radio and MTV.

By the middle of the '90s, Lillian Axe opted to take a break, although
a collection of previously unreleased material was issued in 1999,
FIELDS OF YESTERDAY. With metal once more ruling the charts and the
airwaves by the early 21st century, Lillian Axe was back in business
with live shows, resulting in the release of their first-ever live
album, LIVE 2002, recorded in Houston, Texas. Roadwork has continued
for the band -- including playing to 27,000 fans at Germany's Bang
Your Head!!! Festival in 2004, as well as an extensive European tour a
year later. With new singer LeFevre recently replacing longtime front
man Ron Taylor, WATERS RISING sees a whole new metallic chapter
unfolding for Lillian Axe.

"This album has been conceptually in the works for years. WATERS
RISING represents the boiling point factor, that life seems to be a
tumultuous ride always on the brink of explosion. These recent times
on this planet seem to be proving this point. However, in each
individual is the point where you reconcile this within your spirit
and peace takes over allowing you to cope more effectively. The songs
on this record cover the different ways that we deal with this factor
and the fact that everyone is trying to make sense of it."

-Blind Prophecy Records Goes Global

Rising metal record label signs international distribution deals

NEW YORK, N.Y. -- Independent metal label Blind Prophecy Records has
set into motion a takeover of global proportions. After mere months in
the market, label Presidents James and Shelley McComas sealed
distribution deals in all of North America (Caroline through
Candlelight Records), Europe (European affiliates through Plastic
Head) and Japan (Asian Alliance). Kicking off with the first two
releases this October (Japan) and November (North America, Europe) for
Scarpoint and Pain Principle, Blind Prophecy Records will serve up the
sickest new metal albums in these regions.

Established in 2007 out of Ft. Myers, FL, the husband and wife team
have searched far and wide for standout aggressive acts to sign to the
label. After scouring the scene, Blind Prophecy quickly struck gold,
adding genuine metal gems from urban U.S. (Years Of Fire, Cleveland,
OH) to Eastern Europe (Scarpoint, Stockholm, Sweden). Their growing
roster features a sturdy lineup of metal bands set to swarm the
planet, each with a distinctive sound.

Blind Prophecy's roster is fully loaded with artists experienced in
the scene and in the studio. Years Of Fire, co-founded by guitarst
Jason Hager of Chimaira fame, also features the former bassist of
Ringworm. Members of Pain Principle ran a lengthy jaunt with Andrew
W.K. In addition, Blind Prophecy bands have teamed up with top-of-the-
line producers. Swedish act Scarpoint crafted their upcoming album
alongside Daniel Bergstrand (Meshuggah, In Flames) while Pain
Principle recorded with Eric Rutan (Hate Eternal, Goatwhore, Cannibal
Corpse) and End Of The Rope is slated to hit the studio with Jim
Morris (Lacuna Coil, Trans-Siberian Orchestra). Blind Prophecy's
newest addition, EkoTren, teamed up with Paul Trust (Diecast, Endo)
for their 2007 EP, DESTROYING THE AMERICAN DREAM, and will join Trust
again for their upcoming full-length debut. At press time the label is
in negotiation with two larger artists. With a stellar starting lineup
and ambitious intentions, Blind Prophecy Records and is quickly
becoming a global force to be reckoned with.

On the morning of June 28, 1993, 14 years after recording his first
album, punk icon GG Allin was found in a Lower East Side, New York
apartment, dead from a drug overdose following a final riot-inducing
show. His sudden death surprised those who knew Allin, but the irony
that he would die alone was lost on few -- following his years of
threatening to take his own life on stage in mid-performance.

This documentary, finished just before GG's demise, chronicles his
life in unflinching fashion, never turning from the on-or-off stage
havoc Allin created to challenge a nation of non-believers. Allin, who
had been arrested over 50 times (on charges ranging from disorderly
conduct to exposing himself to minors to public defection) broke
parole to appear in this film. Featured here is not only his live act
that drew the curious and scared the knowing, but the injuries, police
activity and rock 'n roll savagery that will be his legacy.

Director Todd Phillips is an Academy Award-nominated writer and a
director famous for hit comedies such as "Road Trip," "Old School" and
"Starsky & Hutch." "Hated" is his first film. A documentary originally
intended as a senior film project at New York University (NYU),
"Hated" went on to become the highest grossing student film at the
time and helped catapult his career. Todd was also responsible for
booking GG's "spoken word performance" at NYU where GG stripped in
front of the crowd, inserted a banana in his a** and taunted the
audience with threats and obscenities -- causing them all to flee,
fearing for their own personal safety.

"'Hated' is disturbing, intriguing, and often darkly funny... Todd
Phillips creates a genuinely intriguing portrait of Allin that's
neither damning nor apologetic." - Matt Ashare, BOSTON PHOENIX

-Glorior Belli - Manifesting The Raging Beast

Hailing from France, Glorior Belli came out from the dark in 2002 with
Antares and Infestvvs. The first demo, EVIL ARCHAIC ORDER was released
in June 2004, followed by the first album O LAVDATE DOMINVS in May
2005.

Despite their exquisitely filthy and brutal nature, both records emit
a mesmerizing otherworldly resonance that cannot be denied. An omnious
rumble and surge. Always moving forward and to various points of
tension and terror. Raging guitars, violent drums, blood and
blasphemies... There's obviously some bestial qualities in their art.
The whole thing though has a strangely melodic bent that helps it to
stand out from other black metal records, an almost indie-rock quality
to the melodies, somehow super catchy while at the same time being
suffocatingly black and grim.

The band has already performed some live rituals, including the Blood
Soaked Torment tour with Corpus Christii in October 2005 playing
alongside bands like Inquisition, Merrimack, Watain, Hell Militia,
Paragon Impure, etc...

Infestvvs

Vocals & Guitars

Dispater
(Merrimack / Black God)

-Listenable Records: The Scarve & Kruger Reviews Are Rolling In...

Scarve - THE UNDERCURRENT

The follow-up to Scarve's critically acclaimed IRRADIANT (2004), THE
UNDERCURRENT, coming out in June 2007, has already hit reviewers and
fans right in the gut. If you haven't taken the time to lose yourself
in Scarve check out their MySpace and listen to the recently posted
"The Plundered."

"Finally this monster is here! Honestly, I can't get it out of my
stereo, it's just keeps getting better and better and I was hooked
during the first spin!! Awesome!"
-Silenoz of Dimmu Borgir

This album marks a grandiose return of the band marking them as
pioneers and way ahead of their time. Beyond any doubt the most
sophisticated, intricate, unconventional Scarve recording to date.
Scarve will impress and annihilate both friend and foe!

"Scarve are an integral part of France's outward facing metal scene,
and THE UNDERCURRENT, the group's fourth, certainly will turn heads in
the same way... Compared to bands fighting for similar goals, THE
UNDERCURRENT renders 98.5% of them inert."
-Decibel Magazine

"THE UNDERCURRENT is a dark, dense, and nerve-fraying album that
recalls some of SYL's more disorienting fare and ends up a treacherous
voyage into the eye of the extreme music storm. You'll have many
opportunities to peel away layers on THE UNDERCURRENT, helping give
the album some lasting appeal."
-Blabbermouth 8/10

"Scarve will strangle you."
-Corazine Magazine

Kruger - REDEMPTION THROUGH LOOSENESS

Kruger, the Swiss whiskey-induced metal hybrid, made themselves known
in 2005 with a massive, heavy and very promising piece produced by
Fredrik Nordstrom entitled CATTLE TRUCK. Kruger now delivers an epic
and intense follow-up, REDEMPTION THROUGH LOOSENESS. Gloomy and dark,
yet overwhelmingly powerful, this new album drowns the band's
acknowledged influences (Breach, Entombed, Tool, Neurosis) into an
intense magma of shredding metallurgic charge, drilling vocal
turpitudes and desperate, naked heaviness.

"Stark, stunning and full of great twists and turns, Kruger is THE
band that has the chops to step into the hole left by Mastodon."
-PittRiff 9/10

"The songs are intricate and complex, full of twists and turns. Kruger
creates a soundscape that's experimental at times, but also has enough
metal riffs and structure that it is still very accessible."
-About.com

"The listener is treated to intelligent musicianship with a fine
balance between intricate playing and bruise-inducing chug...keeping
the listener fresh and invigorated; especially with their generous
amount of loose hulking riffs and unwavering aggression"

-Kiss' Paul Stanley was taken to a hospital last Friday after
experiencing a heightened heart rate prior to the band's gig at Soboba
Casino Arena in San Jacinto, CA. From a post at PaulStanley.com:
"During sound check yesterday, my heart spontaneously jumped to 190
plus beats per minute where it stayed for over an hour necessitating
paramedics to start an IV and give me a shot to momentarily stop my
heart and get it into a normal pattern." The band performed as a trio
without him, with Gene Simmons performing the vast majority of the
lead vocals. The set list: "Deuce," "Cold Gin," "Calling Dr. Love,"

-Ted Nugent appeared at Durty Nellie's in Palatine, Illinois, on
August 1 for the dedication of a memorial to his late mother, Marion
"Ma" Nugent. The memorial is a "7,800-pound hunk of red Wisconsin
granite, into which Ma Nugent's likeness has been sandblasted,"
according to the Chicago Tribune. Ma Nugent was a longtime Palatine
resident, strongly supported the local music scene, and wrote an
advice column for the Illinois Entertainer. She passed away in 1988.

-Okay, time to pick some nits, baby! I've been listening to the new
S.O.D. release, RISE OF THE INFIDELS. It's essentially presented as a
four-song EP with a bonus live show included, and all in all, the disc
has 24 tracks clocking in just shy of an hour. I'm not what you'd call
an S.O.D. aficionado, but I do have SPEAK ENGLISH OR DIE and BIGGER
THAN THE DEVIL, and I enjoy an Anthrax tune from time to time. But
getting ready for us to review RISE OF THE INFIDELS has been kinda
tweaking me. Ever since we got the press release a few weeks ago, I
thought some of the live song titles looked fishy. Then when I got the
disc in the mail, I busted out my vinyl copy of SPEAK ENGLISH OR DIE
to compare. Yep, there were some (admittedly, *very* minor)
discrepancies. Examples: "Sargent 'D' & The S.O.D." is listed on the
new disc as "Sgt. D And The S.O.D." and "Chromatic Death" is typo'd as
"Cromatic Death," and "Ballad Of Freddy Mercury" misspells Mr.
Mercury's first name (it should be "Freddie"). But then I smiled when
poring over SPEAK ENGLISH OR DIE -- there are tracks called either
"P*ssy Whipped" or "P*ssywhipped," or "Douche Crew (D.C.) " or "Douche
Crew," depending on whether you read the back cover, the record
sleeve, or the label on the disc itself. It's like a scavenger hunt --
find the correct song title! :) I think I'll e-mail Billy Milano about
this, because I'm sure he'd be very receptive to some constructive
criticism... hahaha!

Poor Udo Dirkschneider... Seems nobody can get the new U.D.O. album
title straight. It's MASTERCUTOR but the promo I just got says
MASTORCUTOR, and when I stuck it in my PC, Windows Media Player came
up and called it MASTERCUTTER. :) And how 'bout this mess? The
Japanese version includes the bonus track "Man A King Ruler," the
Russian version includes the bonus track "Platchet Soldat," and the
limited edition European version includes the bonus tracks
"Borderline" and "Screaming Eagles." You can also get the Japanese and
Russian bonus tracks, plus another exclusive track called "Streets Of
Sin," on the single/EP for "The Wrong Side Of Midnight." I'm all for
extra tracks, sure, but this is just plain silly.

And as for Great White, welcome back! Kinda curious, though, that the
title track on the new album on Shrapnel, BACK TO THE RHYTHM (see
Neal's review below), originally appeared on the band's "farewell"
live album from 2002, THANK YOU... GOODNIGHT! I say it's kinda curious
because on the live album the song is called "Back On The Rhythm."
Weird. (BACK TO THE RHYTHM's "Play On" also debuted on that live disc,
by the way.)

-The August 9 issue of Rolling Stone has a cover story on Guns N'
Roses' APPETITE FOR DESTRUCTION turning 20 years old. Haven't read it
yet, but yeesh... I still remember buying that and U.D.O.'s ANIMAL
HOUSE on cassette at the old Platter Plus record store in McHenry,
Illinois, and bringing the tapes with me into the movie theater with
my friends right afterwards. I didn't jump on the GNR craze right off
-- I liked "Welcome To The Jungle" and all but I wasn't convinced to
buy the album until I heard "Mr. Brownstone" on the radio (Hail, Scott
Loftus!). I was *sure* that was Slash singing "Mr. Brownstone" and the
prospect of a two-singer band intrigued me. Well, d'oh! Imagine my
surprise when I found out it was Axl doing all disparate voices. :)
APPETITE FOR DESTRUCTION went on to become probably the first non-Kiss
related album whose lyrics I completely memorized. Yes, I listened to
it a few times.

-Lollapalooza is in Chicago this weekend, starting today. I will be in
Wisconsin.

-Now in my current playlist: Shark Island - GATHERING OF THE FAITHFUL
(Manifest Music), Mehida - BLOOD & WATER (Napalm Records), The
Rezidudes - WELCOME TO THE SUCK (Metro City Records/Screaming Ferret
Wreckords), Mountain - MASTERS OF WAR (Big Rack Records), Beatallica -
SGT. HETFIELD'S MOTORBREATH PUB BAND (Oglio Records).

GREAT WHITE - BACK TO THE RHYTHM (A-/B+) Shrapnel Records, 2007
12 tracks, RT: 56:15
The last decade has not been kind to Great White, the band suffering
through label hassles, disappointing album sales, disbandment and of
course, the tragic Station nightclub disaster. Against the odds, Great
White have returned with the classic lineup from the mid-'80s (except
for bassist Sean McNabb, who came aboard in 1996) and a brand new
album BACK TO THE RHYTHM. After giving this disc a healthy number of
spins, I can confidently say I'm glad to have these guys back! The
album begins with the uplifting title track, and like many of the
songs on offer here it could have come from the band's glory days.
Great White have always been clearly defined by the unique vocals of
Jack Russell and the fiery riffs of guitarist Mark Kendall, and BACK
TO THE RHYTHM is no exception. Excellent songwriting can be found
throughout the disc, as on the exquisitely melodic "Here Goes My Head
Again," emotionally charged "Was It The Night?," Stones-y "Standin' On
The Edge" and hook-laden rocker "Neighborhood." Like the Scorpions,
Great White are not afraid to explore their softer side and there are
a good number of ballads on the album, the best being "How Far Is
Heaven?," Jack's expressive vocals rivaling those of former producer
Don Dokken. On most of the songs the rhythm guitars are very dynamic,
while the leads punctuate the songs without resorting to excess. Mark
dabbled in flash guitar playing during the '80s but never seemed
comfortable in the shredder role, now abandoning the fast picking and
tapping in favor of tasty, blues-based solos that sound natural in the
context of the music. Lest you think Great White have mellowed, have a
listen to "Still Hungry," a track which could have come off the band's
1984 debut, or the tailor-made-for-live anthem "Take Me Down."
Overall, a superb return to form that should have all Great White fans
rejoicing; hopefully this augurs well for the band's future, as Great
White bring the best elements of their past with them while leaving
the heartache behind...
- Neal Woodall (MysticX9@...)
