The Japanese version of the new Mind's Eye album A GENTLEMAN'S
HURRICANE is out now. The band has been told that tracks "Seven Days"
and "Feed My Revolver" have already been aired on Japanese radio shows
such as "Captain Rock" (who played the song "Seven Days") on FM Osaka
and "Of Rock Drive" on FM Yokohoma, the last in which the song "Feed
My Revolver" was played three times in the same show due to public
demand! Making Mind's Eye the first band to ever have been featured
three times in the same show on this network!

As previously reported A GENTLEMAN'S HURRICANE is released on Lion
Music September 14th in a worldwide metal first of CD/DVD and comic
book coming in a DVD case package. The album is a concept album based
on the following premise:
"In a dark and foggy day in September, three shots are heard in the
deep dark woods of 'The Mother Of Presidents' state of Virginia. Adam
Evangelista, a 53 year old top assassin whose ice cold walls have now
been worn down by his continuing growing guilt, searches for an answer
to it all. Acknowledging that he can't continue without finding a way
to ease his mind, he seeks refuge at the town's church where Adam
meets the now retired head priest Father Cavallero Di Mori,
coincidently visiting his old church and parish. Adam tries to get
into the depths of his own disturbed but genius mind. Describing his
life and assassinations for his new friend Father Cavallero during
sessions of confessions, both men reveal deep secrets unknown to the
outside world -- dark secrets they are both ashamed of. Adam's sins
and stories stretch from Sweden, Ireland, Italy, France, to the former
U.S.S.R., Mexico and the U.S.A. Taking orders from the well known
secret society 'The Illuminati,' Adam's 'marks' are some of the most
important people in our time. But there is a catch; only seven days to
poor his heart out before his very last job and time is running out.

Engine Of Pain Announce New Vocalist
Engine Of Pain is very proud to announce their new vocalist: Rogier
Stockbroeks a.k.a. Stocky.
Former vocalist Nick Hameury left the band July this year due to his
immigration to Spain. Stocky reinforced Engine Of Pain as of 1st of
August 2007.
Stocky (32) has the ability to sing amazingly powerful clean as well
as heavy as hell. Just like Bastiaan, Stocky currently also plays in
Stormrider: Europe's number one metal cover band. Stocky's most recent
band was Powervice whose demo BEHOLD THE HAND OF GLORY was Demo of the
Month in Germany's Rock Hard magazine. Stocky stepped out of this band
last January.
The new addition will definitely mean a new vocal sound for Engine Of
Pain. But the band is convinced that Stocky's influences will be a
great step forward again and it will take the band to the next level.
Don't worry: Engine Of Pain will still play most of the old songs live
as well. Just as powerful but with another flavour... \m/
The band is in full progress for writing new songs for the upcoming
second album. The style will remain heavy and Engine Of Pain-worthy
with the intention of the debut album I AM YOUR ENEMY (Lion Music,
January 2007) but will contain more melodic vocals, more twin riffs,
more high tech soloing and a splash of Heavy Metal.
Engine Of Pain's first gig with Stocky will be on the 6th of October
as a support of U.S.A. band Pro-Pain (Venue: Plato - Hellmond, The
Netherlands).

Awake Live Gigs
Awake has been confirmed for the Cambridge Rock Festival Sunday 19th
August, headlining the third stage, this is on the same night as
Thunder and The Night Of Rock festival in Austria on October 6 main
support to Bonfire.
In addition the band will be playing two U.K. gigs with Sun Caged and
Seventh Wonder at The Attic, Rushden on Friday September 14th and The
Underworld, London on Saturday 15th September.
Satyrian Writing New Album
The writing process for the new Satyrian album has started! The guys
will take their time for the preparations, but they will also inform
you about the progress. Satyrian will hit the studio later this year
for the recordings of the upcoming album, which will be released
through Lion Music, as their previous album ETERNITAS.
Elias Viljanen Joins Sonata Arctica
Guitarist Elias Viljanen who has released two critically acclaimed
solo albums on Lion Music to date -- TAKE THE LEAD and THE LEADSTAR --
has been confirmed as the new second guitarist in leading Finnish
metallers Sonata Arctica. U.S. fans of the band can catch Elias on
tour during an extensive tour throughout September. All at Lion Music
would like to congratulate Elias on his appointment to the band.
House Of Shakira RETOXED Clips Available
Leading Swedish melodic rockers House Of Shakira have made four sample
tracks from their upcoming new album RETOXED (Lion Music, release date

Palace Terrace Signs To Lion Music; New Project Featuring George
Bellas
Lion Music are proud to announce the signing of Palace Terrace, a
progressive neoclassical rock band with a theatrical and modern edge
that is intellectually stimulating, thought provoking and emotionally
moving. Their music combines superb musicianship, beautifully crafted
melodies, unique harmonic progressions, compelling stories,
counterpoint, large orchestrations, wide dynamics, odd meters,
stunning vocal arrangements and elaborate forms.
Palace Terrace was formed when composer/guitarist George Bellas
contacted Tenor Vocalist Jonathan R. Marshall and invited him to fill
the main vocalist spot in the band. The two discussed how they would
like to see the band debut as well as evolve into the future. Sharing
very similar visions the two began writing their first album FLYING
THROUGH INFINITY. The search for an extraordinary percussionist was
much of a concern for George and was a long but fruitful ambition when
he finally discovered the prolific talents of Percussionist Sasha
Horn.
George Bellas is one of the world's leading technically advanced
players with a CV that has seen him work with Ring Of Fire, John West,
Vitalij Kuprij, Mogg/Way and many more as well as three critically
acclaimed solo albums to date. George contributes all the
compositions, orchestration, guitar, keyboards, bass, percussion,
vocals and studio production. He has been playing guitar since the age
of seven.
Palace Terrace will publicly debut with their album titled FLYING
THROUGH INFINITY during the fourth quarter of 2007 (actual date TBC)

Falconer recently extended its deal with Metal Blade for another four
albums. The group is currently writing material for its new CD, which
will feature "slightly faster and with more unexpected turns,"
according to Stefan. "The lyrics will all be about Swedish medieval
life and episodes. Not a concept album really but still something in
that direction. What I decided early on was that it wouldn't become
NORTHWIND PT. 2. NORTHWIND is as good as it can be, therefore we'll
make things a tad different this time."

The album sessions continue into August with more recording time
booked for later in the month. However, in order to ensure the album
is given enough time in the studio we're going to need more sessions
in September as well as funds to have the finished product properly

campaign similar to the one which essentially paid for RESURRECTION,
but after taking stock of the time we've spent so far and estimating
the time we're going to need to finish the album, it's clear that
we're not going to have sufficient funds to finish things off.

give us a dig out to get the album done. We're hoping to raise
EUR3,000 or thereabouts which should push us past the finish line. So

Finland's monster rock n' roll band Lordi, currently on tour as part
of Ozzfest 2007 (w/ headliners Ozzy Osbourne, Lamb Of God and Static-
X), have issued another update about their time on the road in North
America. Says Lordi front man, Mr. Lordi, "Ozzfest has been absolutely
amazing for us, even though the shows have been a 'little' sweaty.
We've gotten so much encouragement from Ozzy's band and the Lamb Of
God guys, not to mention from the fans that we've been able to meet at
the signing sessions, that we ALMOST forget the fact that we're
literally melting during each set. At first we were a bit worried
about the fact that we are musically the lightest band on the bill,
and that we are basically a pretty unknown band here in the United
States, but the fan's reactions have been so overwhelming and so
gratifying. There have been quite a lot of people who told us that
they came a looooong way to see us at Ozzfest and we couldn't be more

Former The Gathering singer Anneke Van Giersbergen will release the
debut album from her new band Agua De Annique, entitled AIR, on
October 30 on The End Records. Currently available for streaming on
the band's official Web site (in the "Listen" section) are two full-
length tracks: "Day After Yesterday" and "Beautiful One." A
"beautiful" animated music video for the song "Day After Yesterday" is
also in the works.
"Over the last 10 years I have turned many dreams and experiences into
songs," Anneke previously said in a statement. "I started recording a
selection of the very personal ones during the past six months. We've
laid down the basic tracks at the Waterfront Studios in Rotterdam and
recorded overdubs at The Void in Eindhoven, as well as in the comfort
of my own home studio. I'm excited to send these songs off into the
world and share them with [everyone]!
"I have formed a band called Agua De Annique to help me voice these
songs. We will release an album called AIR in the fall of 2007.
Besides the wonderfully talented people in the band, a few of my
friends will make appearances on this album. The lovely Kristin
Fjellseth will sing additional vocals, Jeffrey Fayman has made a
string arrangement for a song called 'Ice Water.' Heleen de Witte
plays the flute and Timothy Conroy provided some killer trumpet work.

TRENTON, NJ -- The reissue of Lethal Aggression's LIFE IS HARD... is
released on Xtreem Music. The 43-song disc contains their only
official full-length record, originally released in 1989 by Funhouse
Records, as well as two EPs from '87 and '90, a 2006 demo of new
songs, and bonus live tracks from their first show in 1985.
For the first time in 18 years, this moment in Thrashcore history is
now available in a re-mastered and definitive version. The reissue
package of LIFE IS HARD... is accompanied by an extensive 12-page
full-color booklet which includes liner notes about all recordings,
flyers, and tons of photos. The CD spans all eras of the band -- the
1989 takes of classic tracks from their debut demo FTCOTFW like
"Anarcheology," "Cuntry Pig" and "Spooge" to newer tracks like "Ripple
On Ice," "Godservation" and "Lies" to tracks from Lethal Aggression's
infamous first show in Brick, New Jersey on May 26, 1985, which
resulted in a chaotic pit, a near-riot and a broken arm for one fan.
"These kids never saw anything like us and went totally apesh*t," said
Lethal Aggression vocalist John Saltz. "It was so f*ckin' crazy! The
people running the event were scared that it would turn into a full-
out riot. The punks were slamming, the metal kids were head banging
and the burn-outs were just throwing each other into everything. We
never found out who the kid was that broke his arm. By the time we
finished playing, they took him to the hospital and back then we
weren't the type of people to give a f*ck about who he was. We just
thought it was cool it got so out of hand."
The three new Lethal Aggression tracks recorded in 2006 feature the
current lineup of founding vocalist John Saltz, lead guitarist Ravi
Reddy, guitarist Derek Beekman, bassist Charlie Taylor and drummer
Nate Allen.
"When we played the 2002 Milwaukee Metalfest, our bass player flaked
out and Charlie Taylor, who I met the year before in Milwaukee,
learned our set in two days. We did five dates with him including the
fest. His dedication really made me excited, and when the guys in
Lethal started losing interest, his band In-Defiance stepped up to the
plate and told me they would play in Lethal if I wanted to keep it
going. We played Skatopia to a tremendous response and I had a few
shows with Verbal Abuse set for the near future. I told myself if the
Verbal shows got a good response, Lethal would continue. Well these
guys totally f*ckin' blew me away! Not only did they get what I was
doing, they understood thrashcore. These guys are true music fans so
when we started making music together it didn't need to be explained.
They feel the power of mixing metal and punk and developing our own
interpretation of both genres. It feels and sounds fresh because it
is. We have one goal and that is to write some kick ass songs play
them in some cool places!"
Lethal Aggression was an important part of the short-lived thrashcore/
crossover movement. For all those that witnessed the madness/genius of
a Lethal Aggression show -- either in a New Jersey basement or a club
along the Northeast Coast -- the reissue of LIFE IS HARD... is a slice

Band Confirmed To Support Lillian Axe September 16th To October 2nd
The third release by New Jersey's own Spider Rockets, entitled EVER
AFTER, has been picked up by three labels -- Locomotive, Screaming
Ferret and Ryko -- who have just issued the album.
EVER AFTER sees the group working once more with producer Martin Bisi
(whose resume includes the likes of Dresden Dolls, Helmet and Sonic
Youth) -- who had produced Spider Rockets' previous two releases,
PREVIEW and FLIPPED OFF.
"It's really good to see our CD getting out there," says Spider
Rockets' front woman Helena Cos. "Very cool that we are gonna be
reaching more people."
Formed in the late 1990s and led by Cos, Spider Rockets' sound can be
described as ass-kickin' hard modern rock meshing the grunge vox
stylings of 7-Year Bitch with the radio rock sound of Velvet Revolver
or Godsmack. Al Muzer from the Aquarian Weekly agrees with this
assessment, by declaring "[Spider Rockets] continues to crank out the
crunchiest, catchiest, most melodic, mean-riffed and caustic metal
noize since L7 and 7-Year Bitch gave way to the likes of Sleater-
Kinney." The band, which has shared the stage with some of rock's most
renowned names, will be supporting the issue of EVER AFTER with
extensive touring.

W:O:A 2007 - Statement
The 18th W:O:A is now part of our history and this year again three
positive factors about our cult festival will stay in our minds:
- the best audience worldwide
- brilliant bands with great performances
- the sun is from Northern Germany!
We'd like to thank you for your support because without YOU we would
not be what we are: One of the biggest Heavy Metal Festivals
worldwide!
Of course there have been problems this year because of the disastrous
weather conditions whilst the assembling period, at the park, and
camping grounds as well as at the arrival which we will try to change
next year. But altogether we all celebrated a brilliant Metal party.
Furthermore we'd like to take away your fear -- W:O:A will not get any
bigger...we're at the limit! We will advance the logistic (f.e.
entrance and exit to the Party Stage, accessibility of the festival
area, etc.). Furthermore there'll still be the possibility to camp at
your cars of course (that's part of the W:O:A feeling) though we have
to reserve our rights -- in case of catchy conditions like this year
-- to change it.
Of course if you have had any stress and problems because of the short
termed changes concerning the weather conditions we'd like to
apologize. We hope that you understand this situation because without
these arrangements W:O:A 2007 could not have taken place.

W:O:A 2007 - Thanks For Your Support!
The 18th W:O:A is over and we have celabrated the most peaceful Metal
Party worldwide. 60.000 festival visitors from all over the world made
W:O:A "Sold Out" before the festival started.
With all helpers, artists, guests, press people, inhabitants, etc.
there have been 72.000 participants altogether.
We'd like to say "Thank You" to all the metalheads who made this
festival to what it is today. The biggest and most important Heavy
Metal Party of the year.
Also we'd like to say "Thank You" to all the media people for their
support. 3.200 journalists and photographers from 41 nations reflect
the unifying force of Heavy Metal. Thank you for your support and the
good cooperation over the last 18 years.
To make W:O:A 2007 a safe and secure festival many hands were needed.
The disastrous weather conditions whilst the assembly process have
demanded countless additional measures. To make the festival area
accessible the basement had to be ablated. 5000 sqm fleece were laid
out. 1500 tons of wooden chips have been spread on top of the fleece
and the whole area was covered with 600 bales of straw. For the secure
stand of our visitors on the festival area the basement has also been
millinged and indued with heavy weight basement plates which are also
used for tanks. To dry the camping grounds a helicopter flew over the
camping grounds only in a height of 60 centimetres and blew the excess
water away so that the areas were dry.
The precipitation of 350 litres per sqm again brought us some
superlatives. The biggest motor tractor in Europe, a 500 horse power
tractor as well as four dredgers have been in continuous work. 21
artics with the material for the main stages had to be hauled through
the sodded area. 350 tons of steel have been used for the assembling
of the stages. 48 trucks with sound and light material have been
delivered and one truck of pyrotechnics have been fired during the
shows.
For the coordination of the assembly process 20 Jeeps have been in
continuous work. 80 power sets produced the power requirement of a
small town.
It took 350 people who worked all around the clock to enable the
impossible. Out of a mud cavern a festival area raised!
Under catchiest conditions 25 kilometres fence have been set and
draped with 8000 tarpaulins. 450 water-flushed toilets in five shower
camps and 1000 mobile toilets have been set up -- more than at any
other event in this dimension.
We'd like to say "Thank You" to all of those who with their tireless
assignment helped in the realisation of an outstanding festival. Also
the cooperation with the local administrations, the police and fire
brigade went very well without any complications. And of course we are
very happy that there haven't been serious incidents regarding the
reports of the police and the the fire brigade. Wacken is, was and
will be the most peaceful festival with fans from all over the world.
We'd also like to say a very big "Thank You" to all the fans and
guests for their understanding with the weather conditional problems
at the arrival.
Last but not least we'd like to say "Thank You" to all the visitors of
Wacken and the surrounding communities who kindly put us and all the
metalheads up. And of course for their patience regarding the noise
that they had to put up with during the difficult arrival.
The festival is the headliner and the bands play their "Best of
Program..."
We're looking forward to next year when it's for the 19th time:

-MQMusicfest 2007: A Spectacular 12-Hour Music Marathon
Metal Queen Management (MQM) is pleased to announce that MQMusicFest
2007 is being held on Sunday, August 19, 2007 at The Phoenix Concert
Theatre, 410 Sherbourne Street, Toronto. This year's festival -- the
second annual, following up 2006's successful debut -- is a 12-hour

-Cradle Of Filth Vocalist Records Theme Song For Dario Argento's
Latest Horror Epic "Mother Of Tears: The Third Mother"
Band Confirmed To Headline Bam Margera's Viva La Bands 2007 Tour
Grammy-nominated, British shock rockers Cradle Of Filth have delved
towards a new level of darkness. Vocalist Dani Filth recently recorded
vocals for the theme song to Dario Argento's latest horror/suspense
opus "Mother Of Tears: The Third Mother." The song, entitled "(She's)
The Mother Of Tears" was composed by Claudio Simonetti. Simonetti, a
veritable legend among horror film scores, is also noted for penning
music to such classics as "Dawn Of The Dead," "Suspiria," "Phenomena"
and several episodes of the popular series "Masters Of Horror."
Says Dani Filth on his experience working on the film, "It was a real
honor to be asked to work alongside Claudio Simonetti from Goblin,
especially as it's the last of a trilogy for a Dario Argento movie.
The whole project has been very exciting to say the least. I received
word that my services were being demanded of and I was especially
delighted to have been given free reign with the vocals, both
musically and lyrically, preserving the lush choir that forms the
backbone of the chorus. The result is a four-minute homage to the last
and most dangerous in a trio of powerful witches whose aim is to
enslave the world. Having finished the song (which is intended for the
film's credits), I am now tense with anticipation for seeing the how
the two work together... the film apparently rocks!"
"Mother Of Tears: The Third Mother" concludes Argento's cult trilogy
that began with "Suspiria" (1977) and "Inferno" (1980) and revolves
around the resurrection of demonic witches in Rome. The film stars
Asia Argento ("Land Of The Dead"), Udo Kier ("Grindhouse," Rob
Zombie's "Halloween"), and Cristian Solimeno ("Footballers' Wives")
and is slated for a late autumn worldwide release. It is rumored that
this film may also be the last directorial outing for Dario Argento,
whose horror career has spanned almost forty years and included such
cult films as "Deep Red," "Demons" and "Tenebrae." This experience
continues Cradle Of Filth's growing trend of offering dark music to
films and making the films rather darker. The band's previous
soundtrack credits include "Underworld: Evolution," "Alone In The
Dark," "Resident Evil: Apocalypse," "Ginger Snaps," and "Faust."
Cradle Of Filth is also spreading the darkness over North America this
autumn as they are confirmed to headline Bam Margera's Viva La Bands
2007 North American Tour, presented by Rockstar Energy Drink. Cradle
Of Filth is touring alongside some of Bam Margera's other favorite
acts, including CKY and up-and-comers Vains Of Jenna.
Says the band's outspoken front man Dani Filth, "The Viva La Bands

Charnel Valley's sophomore album, THE IGNEOUS RACE, is now available.
The album maintains the bands brand of primitive Black Metal, and also
incorporates a slight trace of early Finnish Death Metal, reminding
one of early Belial or early Amorphis. Still recorded in the same
spontaneous manner, as the band's debut, 2005's THE DARK ARCHIVES, THE
IGNEOUS RACE features a fuller production, yet totally genuine to the
concept of Black Metal.

Hungarian Black Metallers, Vorkuta, have announced the addition of a
permanent drummer, Khrul, who is also known for drumming in other
Hungarian Black Metal bands such as Witchcraft, Marblebog, and
Vérzivatar. Vorkuta's first release together with their new drummer
will be a split 7" EP with Japanese Thrashers Abigail. A split 7" with
Kratornas will come out via Paragon Records later in the year as well.
Vorkuta hail from Hungary and play a cold and desecrating form of
Black Metal. At times attaining the atmosphere of BLOOD, FIRE, DEATH-
era Bathory as well as the traditional style of Black Metal found on
Darkthrone's TOTAL DEATH album.

New York Doom duo, Rigor Sardonicous, have revealed information on
their upcoming new album, entitled VALLIS EX UMBRA DE MORTUUS due out
on Paragon Records this fall. The album continues on in the Rigor
Sardonicous tradition of Raw Apocalyptic Doom. The album will be
issued in multiple formats and each will contain bonus material. The
CD version will feature a video track of an old Rigor Sardonicous
track "Sleepless." The vinyl version will feature a rendition of the
Tears For Fears classic "Mad World." Album artwork and song previews
of the album will follow shortly.

Paragon is proud to announce our latest two signings Darkestrah and
Aetherius Obscuritas.
Darkestrah have been playing their brand of innovative black metal
since 1999, releasing three acclaimed albums, SARY OY, EMBRACE OF
MEMORY, and EPOS. While Darkestrah is now based in Germany, the band
formed in the central Asian country of Kyrgyzstan.
Previous works have been described as a spiritual, almost pre-historic
journey, using pagan themes in a very unique way, often paying homage
to the bands Shaman roots. Great melodic parts were paired with
traditional instruments like Kyl-kyjak, Komuz or Sygyt. Female Black
Metal vocals and singing that created the atmosphere of the spiritual
shamanic people.
Darkestrah's brand new album will be out in early 2008 through Paragon

Hungary's Aetherius Obscuritas plays fast and raging Black Metal
inspired by the old masters Dissection, Ragnarok, and country mates
Tormentor. Sole member Arkhorrl, regards his band as a salute to the
Black Metal ancestors, and edifying the Hungarian Black Metal Scene.
Aetherius Obscuritas has previously released three full-length albums
and has established itself as one of the standouts of the thriving
Hungarian Black Metal scene.
The fourth album VIZIOK will be available in early Autumn through

The Amenta are currently in the studio, recording N0N, the full-length
follow-up to their acclaimed 2004 release OCCASUS.
All guitars, Samples and FX have been tracked and the band flew to
Hobart, Australia to commence recording drums at Red Planet Studios in
July. N0N is a much darker and more subtle album than its predecessor
and is the product of a more experimental recording ethos.
The Amenta are stepping outside of their comfort zone and enjoying
chaos. Riddled with electronic noise and guitar manipulation, N0N
pushes modern technology to its limits. Lyrically the album deals with
shadowy deals and moral compromises of this sick new world.

Year Of No Light Shed Light On Dark Music Without Much Light
As part of our current plundering of the French art-metal underground,
Crucial Blast has re-released NORD, the colossal debut from French
ensemble Year Of No Light that was originally released via the French
label Radar Swarm earlier in 2006. Year Of No Light bring an amazing
set of songwriting chops to the 10 songs that make up NORD, a heavy,
chugging metallic monster that channels both gloomy atmospherics
reminiscent of The Cure, and crushing Neurosis-inspired dirgecore,
heavy and raw but at times extremely beautiful. To us, YONL's NORD
seems to orbit the guitar-heavy early '90s alt rock of bands like
Swervedriver and Dinosaur Jr., The Cure and My Bloody Valentine, just
as much as it draws from the dirgey, metallic, crushing post-hardcore
of Isis and Neurosis.
Sure, there are a ton of bands out there that touch upon similar
influences, but we can't think of anyone recently (other than Envy)
that has delivered an album in this style that is quite this catchy
and well-written. NORD flows seamlessly between passages of ultra
melodic rock and frenzied bursts of dissonant, crushing hardcore, to
austere radiant guitar figures and gorgeous Troum-esque ambient
drones, to massive doomy metal, utterly gorgeous Loveless-esque
melodic bliss, and some almost folksy, but unbelievably EPIC riffs,
with powerful, strained vocals fighting through their wall of sound.

Hailing from the picturesque Northern Basque Country of France,
Monarch! unleash a slow motion avalanche of impossibly glacial,
blackened sludge and hypnotic feedback, each song a series of epic
tarpit riffage stretched out eternally over lumbering drums and the
cavernous rumble of speaker cabinets. Over these yawning expanses of
black void appears the demonic, throat-shredding shrieks and ghostly
singing of Emilie, whose petite appearance belies one of the harshest
throats in the underground Doom spectrum. Beyond heavy. Monarch!'s

Skullflower IIIRD GATEKEEPER Reissue Coming To Kill You
I gotta say, this has been a dream project for us, and it's taken
awhile to get the ball rolling, but we are now in the process of
working with Skullflower's Matt Bower in putting together a reissue of
one of our favorite Skullflower albums ever, 1992's IIIRD GATEKEEPER.
Featuring the lineup of Matthew Bower (guitar), Stuart Dennison (drums
and vocals), and Anthony DiFranco (bass), IIIRD GATEKEEPER is an
immensely heavy album that was originally released on HeadDirt, the
label run by Justin Broadrick of Godflesh/Jesu/Final fame back in the
early '90s, and featured the band grinding out slow, sludgy riffs and
crushing, almost industrial rhythms amid a tempest of psychedelic
guitar noise and dense sheets of feedback -- easily the most crushing
music that Skullflower ever produced. IIIRD GATEKEEPER served up a
skulldozing dose of post-industrial dirge rock that sat comfortably
next to Godflesh, Swans, and Ramleh in terms of dark, druggy, hypnotic
lumbering heaviness.
This is one of our favorite albums ever, and we are working on giving
this a great presentation...new liner notes have been commissioned,
we're working with Matthew Bower on a package design that will contain
all of the original artwork yet will improve on the original releases
jewel-case package, and the album is being re-mastered. We're shooting
for a Fall release date and we'll be posting more info here as this
project develops.

Australia's Grey Daturas To Reissue DEAD IN THE WOODS On The 'Blast
That's right, we're going to be reissuing the 2004 monsterpiece from
the Melbourne, Australian trio Grey Daturas just in time for their
mammoth two-month tour of North America slated for this autumn. Long
out of print and originally released through the Crashing Jets
imprint, DEAD IN THE WOODS is a massive exhortation of lumbering
metallic sludge rock, freely improvised noise, and sky-streaking
psychedelia. This reissue will feature a full re-mastering by Scott
Hull at Visceral Sound, and will also come with a brand new packaging
design via a four-panel case printed by Stumptown Printers.The band
has already scorched these shores with national tours, and when we
drop the new reissue of DEAD IN THE WOODS in early September, the band
will be supporting that release as well as their upcoming new release
on Neurot Recordings with an extensive tour that will include a trek
across Alaska(!). More details on this upcoming dose of druggy,
crushing free-rock will be appearing shortly.

-Southern Lord Artists' Music In New DiCaprio Film
Leonardo DiCaprio has hand-picked songs by Southern Lord Recording
artists Khanate and Toadliquor for the soundtrack of his forthcoming
film/documentary: "The 11th Hour." "The 11th Hour" is a documentary
concerning the environmental crises caused by human actions and calls
for restorative action through a reshaping of human activity. The
Khanate track "Torching Koroviev" (from their self-titled debut album,
cat#: sunn14) and Toadliquor track "Charred" (from their eponymous
album THE HORTATORS LAMENT, cat#: sunn22) can be heard during the
opening montage over the main title early in the film. "The 11th Hour"
opens in L.A. and New York theaters on August 17th.

-There's been some funny Van Halen discussion within my circle of
friends. Most of my buddies are looking forward to the reunion tour
with David Lee Roth (not to mention the Sammy Hagar/Michael Anthony
tour) but one guy keeps saying, "Mark my words -- the DLR tour will
fail." There's one in every crowd. :) But he also said this vehemently
earlier in the year, when the DLR rumblings were starting up, and he
was proven correct when that tour announcement was derailed by Eddie
entering rehab. Maybe the new tour will be called off when someone
realizes young Wolfie should be in school in the fall?

Apparently Queensryche is hard at work on a new album but dropped
everything to hit the road on the Heaven And Hell tour. That's cool.
But the funny thing is the interviewer asked Tate if the 'ryche would

give the correct answer: "No, my solo stuff belongs ***nowhere*** near
a Queensryche show, but thanks for asking." Hmm...
