-Frontiers Records Update
Bassinvaders
Frontiers Records is pleased to announce the release of Markus
Grosskopf's Bassinvaders album HELLBASSBEATERS on January 25th 2008!
Markus Grosskopf is mostly known as the bass player of Germany's Heavy
Metal legend Helloween, but Bassinvaders has been a creation of Markus
while sitting in a bar and enjoying a few drinks. There it was that he
got inspired to an impressive idea: a heavy rock record without any
guitars at all. He presented this concept to Frontiers Records in
early 2007, who was intrigued with the idea and gave it a go.
And yes, at the end of the day the idea paid off! HELLBASSBEATERS
contains all basic elements a heavy rock record and so much more. You
got the strong vocals, rhythmic bass, intoxicating drums and even bass
and twin bass solo parts. What you hear is what you get: 100% genuine
heavy / rock record with absolutely no discordant guitar note on it at
all. To guarantee a great variety of different influences Markus
invited some well-known singing bass players from the German Metal
scene to join the band. And they didn't need an extra invitation. In
Destruction's enfant terrible Schmier, Sodom's front man Tom
Angelripper and Rage boss Peavy, Markus found some real
Bassinvaders-friends.
To push it even further Markus invited a few of his bass heroes to
play solos on some of the tracks. When he started searching for
support making this album excellent he expected to get a cautious
response of two or three musicians. He ended up organizing more than
13 people for a solo appearance on the album. They named themselves --
like the album title -- the Hellbassbeaters: Billy Sheehan (Steve Vai,
ex-Mr. Big, ex-David Lee Roth), Rudy Sarzo (Dio, ex-Ozzy Osbourne, ex-
Whitesnake, ex-Quiet Riot), Lee Rocker (Stray Cats), Marco Mendoza
(Thin Lizzy, ex-Whitesnake, ex-Ted Nugent), D.D. Verni (Overkill),
Wyzard (Mother's Finest), Dirk Schlächter (Gamma Ray), Joey Vera
(Armored Saint, Fates Warning, ex-Anthrax), Stig Pedersen (D.A.D),
Nibbs (Saxon), Tobias Exxel (Edguy), Jens Becker (Grave Digger, ex-
Running Wild), Dennis Ward (Pink Cream 69), Peter Baltes (Accept), Jan
S. Eckert (Masterplan) and Michael Müller (Jaded Heart).
Markus has also invited some guest singers for the songs he wrote:
Apollo Papathanasio (Firewind, Time Requiem, Evil Masquerade,
Majestic) and the front man of the legendary Danish stadium rock band
D.A.D -- Jesper Binzer. While the guest drummers are André Hilgers
(Rage, Axxis, Silent Force) and Stefan Arnold (Grave Digger).
This guest list and the killer lineup make the first Bassinvaders
album something very special, but it's not only about the name
dropping. Songs like "Boiling Blood," "We Live," "Voices," "Razorblade
Romance," "Armageddon" or the storming Bassinvaders version of the
classic Helloween anthem "Eagle Fly Free" are proving that Markus'
late night idea won't be just a one-off slap, but the foundation for
another "battlefield" for the always smiling bassist.
The album track listing includes:
Awakening the Bass Machine; We Live; Armageddon; Romance In Black;
Godless Gods; Empty Memories (Breaking Free); Boiling Blood; Far Too
Late; The A**hole Song; Dead From The Eyes Down; Razorblade Romance;
Voices; Eagles Fly Free; To Hell And Back (Bonus Track Europe)
Crown Of Thorns
Crown Of Thorns are busy in the new album recording sessions in a Los
Angeles studio with producer Bob Clearmountain. Front man Jean
Beauvoir states: "We've been working hard on the record. Tommy
Lafferty just flew back to San Francisco today after some days of
guitars. I head to L.A. on Thursday and we will be working five days
recording Drums and Bass with Bob Clearmountain in his studio. It's
going well!" A release is due in the first half of 2008 via Frontiers
Records.
Action
Action guitarist Chip and vocalist Jack Marques sat down to reflect on
what inspired them to pen the lyrics for the following songs off of
their self-titled debut CD to be released on December 7th 2007 on
Frontiers Records.
1. Without Your Love
Chip: "In a world where everyone one is forgiving and forgetting...and
writing songs about how strong and powerful love is...no matter what,
work it out... This song is about knowing when not to work it out...
about finding yourself again...moving on, being strong...love is
strong, beautiful, powerful...but there can be a blind spot where you
lose yourself...where is that...who knows...but there is a fine line
between love and stupidity."
2. Someday
Jack: "This song is basically about our struggle as musicians chasing
a dream! It's a long hard road and you're very often unfairly judged,
misunderstood and sometimes viewed as some kind of foolish dreamer.
However, those who are not like us, can never understand the passion
that drives us, and the hope that some day we will flourish in what we
were born to do!"
3. Here In My Heart
Chip: "This one is about holding on to the memory of those loved ones
we've lost...and the hope to be with them again someday...until then
we have their memory to live with..."
4. Destiny
Jack: "This song is somewhat a reflection of me. It paints the picture
of a man who had almost given up on love when the girl that was always
destined for him shows up in his life. Then together they discover it
was somehow always meant to be!"
5. Forever
Jack: "In a world where so many people are giving up on their
relationships, I wanted to write something that would challenge people
to work it out and fight through adversity. Too many are just giving
up! I believe love is a choice and when you choose to hang in there
and fight for your love, the bond is strengthened and your love grows
deeper roots. That's what makes great relationships. But that can
never be discovered when you give up!"
6. Loveless
Chip: "This one is about the final decision...stay or go...seems
simple enough...so why is it so hard...any answers?...lol"
7. Don't Leave Me Lonely
Chip: "Written with friends Kevin Morin, Greg Varatta...this one is
about a long term relationship gone wrong...seems impossible at times,
especially when you are in it, but it does happen...more than we would
ever think...be careful...it could happen to you or I."
8. Heaven Tonight
Chip: "Written in '86. This was our take on the dream of making it...
written with friends Tom Regine and Bill Huling...hey don't we have
another song on this record about this same subject...I'll be back,
I'm gonna go check, be back...SOMEDAY...lol"
9. Cinderella
Jack: "Anyone who knows me well knows that I have a strong faith in
God. This song is based on a true story about a girl who really had a
rough life and childhood. She was ready to give up on her life when
she learned that the love of God was there for her. That he is there,
ready to help anyone who would call and take his hand. Well, she did
and amazingly her life completely turned around, and she now lives the
kind of life she never thought possible."
10. Feel The Fire
Chip: "Ah true love...that's what this one is about...written in 1990-
something...with yours truly and old Action singer, Roger Monteiro.
This is a dedication to his lovely wife Michelle...now I ask you...can
you feel the fire?"
11. Is It Love
Chip: "The big question is it or isn't it love...the answer we are all
waiting for...some will make it a game...it's not... but go on... jump
in and love away what do you have to lose... don't be afraid...you may
be blessed for the rest of your life...that's all I have to say about
that...life is like a box of..."

-Britny Fox Ink Deal With Z & Confirm Z Rock 08 Appearance
We are extremely proud to announce the signing of the legendary Britny
Fox and their confirmed appearance at Z Rock 08. The band's manager
Chris "Big Poppa" and Z Rock label chief Mark Alger finalised all
parts of this impressive deal during the late hours of Friday evening.
Both parties are extremely excited that Britny Fox will finally return
to the U.K. for this exclusive appearance after 18 long years and in
the process record a live album to make it even more special for fans!
Britny Fox formed in 1988 and signed to CBS/Columbia for their self-
titled debut album (1988). By the time 1988 came to an end, the band
had scored three major MTV video hits, which included the very well
known "Long Way To Love," the band's first number one video and top 40
single, and the famous "Girlschool" video, both of which still receive
steady play on VH1 Classic today. Back in the day, Britny Fox toured
around the world with the likes of Bon Jovi, Poison, Ratt, and many
other great bands of the genre. Britny Fox's self-titled debut was one
of the most successful premieres of the 1988-89 season, selling circa
one million copies and bringing more than 625,000 fans to their 130+
shows. The band also won Metal Edge Magazine's 1988 Reader's Choice
Award for Best New Band. The above mentioned album, which is still in
print today, and available on different labels through reissues, is
estimated to have sold nearly 3,000,000 units.
Britny Fox's sophomore studio release titled BOYS IN HEAT (1989) had
two major videos and one top 40 single, "Standing In The Shadows," and
"Dream On," a midtempo radio anthem that was the band's second top 40
single, also still on VH1 today. And let's not forget their cover of
Nathareth's "Hair Of The Dog," which is a fan favourite as well. Along
with touring in support of BOYS IN HEAT with Alice Cooper, Great White
and many other artists, the album was off to a great start until
things fell apart amongst the band, and a breakup ensued. The first
singer "Dizzy" Dean Davidson left the band.
After listening to hundreds of demos, Britny Fox finally selected
their new front man, Tommy Paris. Tommy Paris has proven to be a true
musician, and a real asset to the band. With the help of famous names
like Poison's Rikki Rockett and Ozzy's Zakk Wylde, they released the
hard rockin' BITE DOWN HARD, with Atlantic Records (1991). Although
their third album sold only about half as much as its predecessor, it
was an album of tremendous growth. One video and single from BITE DOWN
HARD was a song titled "Louder," which got much attention as well. By
this time though, it was 1992, and bands like Britny Fox were not
doing well at the time.
The band chose to wait it out instead of trudging through what their
landscape had become, and basically remained dormant until 1999 when
they signed to Spitfire records in the U.S. 2007 and the band are set
to return to U.K. shores for a special appearance at Z Rock 08 and
record a live album for Z Rock Records to celebrate their return to
European soil.
Z Rock 08 will now be held on May 10th [Saturday] in central
Birmingham at an all new venue set to open early 2008 details will be
posted soon at http://www.myspace.com/zrockfest . Tickets already
purchased are still valid but if you are unable to attend on the new
date we will happily refund your ticket if you purchased prior to
November 19, 2007. We apologies if the change of date has caused
anyone problems but it was necessary to attract further quality acts
whom will be disclosed soon.

-October File's Warbringing Tactics Up For Discussion
October File - HOLY ARMOUR FROM THE JAWS OF GOD
Metal Hammer says, "October File burn with all the fiery, punk-
spirited menace of Black Flag and the fervent apocalyptic brimstone of
Killing Joke, but with a sound that's all their own." With this, their
proper introduction to U.S. audiences, October File look to bring
their sonic decadence to new and eager ears waiting for music with
substance. Kerrang! say, "there's a simultaneous elegance and urgency
here that puts it ahead of its competition... hard as f*ck and
unpretentious to the core."
Already having toured Europe with the likes of Killing Joke and
others, and with the album produced by and featuring a guest
performance from Killing Joke's Jaz Coleman, the quartet is ready to
take America with a vengeance.

"Nothing this incendiary has come from Britain in a year or two: its
real world outlook gives it the honesty, while its zero concern for

"...a righteous onslaught of some truly raging power-grooves. Warning:
you will need armor for this one!" 5/5 - Pivotal Rage
"...when it comes to cramming more energy into a single riff than you

to break things and coupling it with a socially conscious message to

-New/Old Tune From Sean Faust
So...as I'm rummaging through my CDs to find the master copy of "A
Time For Christmas," I found a gem that I had forgotten about.
Originally, I did the lead vocals on "Pieces Of Yesterday, Tomorrow"
from the STAINED GLASS CD. Unhappy with my performance at the time, I
enlisted another vocalist to do the job for the release (which he did
a great job on!).
So...being pleased with what I found, I've decided to share it. I
really hope you enjoy!
Please enjoy "Pieces Of Yesterday, Tomorrow - The Alternate Take"!

-I just got a slew of cool promos from Perris Records -- new stuff
from Dirty Looks, Helix, Funny Money, etc. The promos were digital
format, i.e., MP3s, and as a deterrent to, shall we say, "illegal
distribution," the fine folks at Perris inserted a voice saying "CD
now available on Perris Records" into each track, usually at the start
of the guitar solo. Believe me, while certainly a big jarring this is
wayyyyyyyyy better and significantly less distracting than what Iced
Earth did on the FRAMING ARMAGEDDON promo earlier this year. That
thing was rendered virtually unlistenable by the frequent voiceovers
from main man Jon Schaffer. Kudos, Perris. (Early pick hit of the
bunch: Helix's THE POWER OF ROCK AND ROLL.)
-Another promo that recently found its way to my mailbox is Doro's ALL
WE ARE: THE FIGHT (Locomotive Records), a kinda odd-but-cool release
featuring five audio tracks and five video clips. The press kit
mentions it's a DVD but it's really an audio CD/EP with the videos
included as multimedia bonus content. I just cracked up after reading
"DVD" in the press kit -- I then popped the disc into my laptop and
perused the "readme.txt" file that explicitly said "Do not insert disc
in hardware DVD players." :)
-The other day I needed change for a $10 bill so I stopped in a
convenience store in the Loop area of Chicago. I figured I'd just grab
a pack of gum and get a $5 and three or four $1s in change. The cost?
$2.69 + $.05 tax = $2.74 for freakin' gum!!! (A 14-piece pack of
Dentyne Ice Soft Chew "Wild Winter" sugarless, if you need to know.)
Almost makes me think an $18.99 CD at Borders is a good deal...
-Now in my current playlist: Bill Leverty - SOUTHERN EXPOSURE (Leverty
Music), Helix's THE POWER OF ROCK AND ROLL (Perris Records), Spiders &
Snakes - MELODRAMA (Sansei Records), Dirty Looks - GASOLINE (Perris
Records).
