-King Diamond Cancels North American Tour

King Diamond's management has released the following statement
regarding the cancellation of the band's North American tour.

"Most regretfully we have to announce that King will not be able to
tour North America as planned.

"King has over the past six months been suffering from a herniated
disc in the spine, and has still not recovered to a satisfactory
level.

"He was prescribed absolute rest for several months, and this appears
to be more than half a year.

"Following several visits to specialists and most recent MRI scan, we
have to realize that his condition need far more rest than expected in
the first place. At the moment he can neither walk for more than an
hour at a time, nor can he sit like you would do in a normal daily
life; i.e. there is no chance that he will fully recover in time for
the tour start in March.

"We deeply regret the inconvenience caused for everyone involved, for
promoters, bands and fans; and most of all we're very very sorry that
we can not go out and perform for the fans who have been waiting for
the tour to kick off."

worldwide release, the vocals are to be re-recorded in English under
the guidance of producer Risto Asikainen (Stratovarious) at Jean
Records Studio. This new version will also include two new tracks.
Artist Janne Uotila (H.I.M.) will be responsible for the CD's artwork.

A release for the English version of Katra is scheduled for mid 2008.

Trail Of Tears - Contract Prolonged & U.S. Headliner Tour

By the end of 2006 and following a turbulent Mexican tour resulting in

handedly completed the work for the release of EXISTENTIA, promising a
fresh start with a new lineup, including former Trail Of Tears
vocalist, Catherine Paulsen. Following the first successful shows,
Napalm Records is pleased to announce the prolonging of Trail Of
Tears' recording contract. The band is now preparing for their first

Upcoming releases:

Alestorm - CAPTAIN MORGAN'S REVENGE (Jan 29, 2008)

Pirates! The "Alestorm" is on the high seas and its crew, four madmen,
are ready to enslave you with their own brand of Scottish Pirate
Metal! With their canons fully loaded and their rum-induced songs
about raids, treasures, and women, Alestorm delivers jolly drunken
Battle Metal full of energy, power, and good humor. Join the crew and
let the raid begin.

http://www.alestorm.net/

Isole - BLISS OF SOLITUDE (Jan 29, 2008)

Doom masters Isole deliver an abundance of Scandinavian gloom on their
latest album BLISS OF SOLITUDE. Morose epic melodies written in the
minor keys and highlighted by desolate harmonies that are refined with
choral chants draw the listener into the Swedes' dark musical world,
until heavy riffs and pounding drums smash away any trace of suicidal
thoughts, inevitably causing the spinal cord to twitch. Switch off the
lights, put on the headphones, and surrender yourself to a symphony of
despair and isolation.

http://www.forevermore.se/

Catastrophic - PATHOLOGY OF MURDER (Jan 29, 2008)

A stirring synthesis of old-school anger and new-school brutality,
Catastrophic are set to take the Metal scene by storm! The band's
second album, following their Metal Blade debut, strikes fast and
fierce with maliciously catchy riffing, propulsive jackhammer rhythms,
and pissed-off vocal fortitude from ex-Pyrexia vocalist Keith Devito.
Indeed, PATHOLOGY OF MURDER is murder most foul!

http://www.myspace.com/catastrophic2001

Recent releases:

Svartsot - RAVNENES SAGA

Svartsot is the next rising star in the Folk Metal heavens, as
traditional Scandinavian sounds and instruments meet brutal, yet
melodic Death Metal. Crushing mid-tempo tracks and catchy neck-
breakers driven by heavy guitar riffs, deep vocals, and whipping
drumming are refined with traditional folk melodies. Powerfully
produced by Jacob Hansen (Tyr, Hatesphere), Svartsot's debut delivers
new hymns for Folk Metal's next generation.

"Sublimely combine the vocal styling of Chris Barnes from Six Feet
Under and the music of Jethro Tull! Totally bizarre, yet also very
fascinating, unlike anything I have ever heard" – AMP

http://www.svartsot.dk/

Sinamore - SEVEN SINS A SECOND

Sorrowful melodies, melancholic lyrics, and a somber atmosphere are
typical of Finnish bands. Yet for all the world weariness imparted in
their music, Sinamore never forgets their rock band status. Thus, the
four Finns let it all hang out, combining pleasing melancholy and soft
sounds with solid drumming, great hooklines, catchy choruses, and
heavy guitars. In other words, Gothic Rock with balls!

"Quite a revelation...this band could easily become a staple of rock
radio across the country...traces of Breaking Benjamin, Stone Sour and
their ilk...A thoroughly enjoyable disc" – Hails & Horns

http://www.sinamore.com/

Elis - SHOW ME THE WAY

SHOW ME THE WAY is both legacy and new beginning for the Gothic Metal
flagship band Elis. On the one hand, the MCD honorably closes the
GRIEFSHIRE chapter by offering former front lady Sabine Dόnser's
final, unreleased works. On the other hand, it supplies fans with a
new version of the sweeping Gothic Metal classic "Show Me The Way,"
courtesy of their fantastic new vocalist, Sandra Schleret. Regardless
of destiny's fatal blow, Elis delivers a worthy memorial for their
deceased vocalist, while taking a first step to continue the band with
dignity.

http://www.elis.li/

Syrach - DAYS OF WRATH

The Norwegian Doom machine offers heavy and viscid symphonies, which
are not only massive and brutal, but also raw and coarse. The hypnotic
drumming highlights the raw sounds and vocals, as well as the tuned-
down guitars that produce one crushing riff after another, as if
forged from the confines of inner conflict. Expect no lovely melodies
or kitsch from Syrach. DAYS OF WRATH delivers a violent and hopeless
approach to the musical experience.

"One of the very doom best albums I've heard in a long, long time.
Achingly beautiful yet crushingly heavy, melodically-inclined but
deathly serious, Syrach are a hidden gem that will hopefully stay
hidden no longer. You NEED to hear this band!" – Hails & Horns

http://www.syrach.com/

Enthroned - TETRA KARCIST

The horde is back! The legendary cult band remains true to their genre
by delivering genuine Black Metal complete with racing blastbeats,
serrating guitars, rabid vocals, and an ominously cold atmosphere.
Enthroned have once again cast pitch-black high-grade steel.

"Slays from start to finish, without getting bogged down in too much
pseudo-religious histrionics" – Revolver [4/5 rating]

http://www.enthroned-horde.com/

Wolfpack Unleashed - ANTHEMS OF RESISTANCE

The band catapults the classic Bay Area Thrash Metal of old into the
new millenium. Neck-breaking, highspeed riffs, furious solos, brutal
precision drummung, and technical prowess perfectly merge together
with epic melodies, brawling choruses, and memorable songwriting.

"Everything you could ever want from a thrash bend. Imagine the best
bits of Metallica, Megadeth, and Testament, without stealing from any
of them and you are getting close...this band is destined for big
things" – Hails & Horns

-26 Bands Confirmed For Sweden Rock Festival 2008

Dear friends of Sweden Rock Festival!

It's the 24th November and one month to Christmas but Santa Claus has
already arrived carrying his "heavy" presents. At the annual kick
Sweden Rock Festival, which this year was held at the Tyrol in
Stockholm, the first 26 bands for the festival of 2008 were announced.
They are as follows:

JUDAS PRIEST (UK)
The classic lineup of Rob Halford, K.K. Downing, Glenn Tipton, Ian
Hill and Scott Travis will visit our festival once again. They're
currently putting the finishing touches to a new studioalbum based on
the life of Nostradamus.

ASTRAL DOORS (S)
Astral Doors continue to create cosmic metal with their latest album
NEW REVELATION.

AT THE GATES (S)
The band who created "the Gothenburg sound" will reform for an
exclusive gig for Sweden and our festival.

AVATAR (S)
A young Swedish melodic death metal band who have received a lot of
recognition over the last two years.

AXEWITCH (S)
Another Swedish hard rock act who has decided to reform with four of
their five original members. And a new album might face the day next
year.

BLUE ΦYSTER CULT (US)
A classic american rock band who got their big breakthrough with
"(Don't Fear) The Reaper" and "Godzilla" in the mid '70s incorporating
science fiction and the occult in their music. The band last visited
Sweden Rock Festival in 1998 and they will be back in 2008.

BONAFIDE (S)
Those who have seen Bonafide can tell you about a band rooted in
Humble Pie, Rose Tattoo and AC/DC.

CARCASS (UK/S)
An English death metal band, but with a Swedish guitar player Michael
Amott (Arch Enemy/Spiritual Beggars), will reunite for Sweden Rock
Festival. Drummer Ken Owen will, however, be replaced by Daniel
Erlandssson.

COHEED AND CAMBRIA (US)
An American progressive band from New York. They're fascinated by '70s
rock and many have compared them to Rush. And the producer of their
latest album GOOD APOLLO, I'M BURNING STAR IV, VOLUME TWO: NO WORLD
FOR TOMORROW -- Nick Raskulinecz -- is the same guy who did SNAKES &
ARROWS!

DARE (UK)
Melodic rock with Celtic influences is the direction that former Thin
Lizzy keyboardist Darren Wharton has chosen to go since the debut in
1989. A new album entitled ARC OF DAWN will be released next year.

DERRINGER BAND (US)
Derringer-Johnson-Appice-Aronson. Rick Derringer, Danny Johnson, Vinny
Appice and Kenny Aaronson released three classic albums in the '70s
(DERRINGER, SWEET EVIL and DERRINGER LIVE) and they're sure to command
interest today as well.

ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA - former members of ELO and ELO Part II (UK)
With former members of ELO and ELO II this is a band who will prove
that the large audience has not forgotten classic albums such as A NEW
WORLD RECORD and OUT OF THE BLUES.

GOTTHARD (CH)
A heavy rock band from Switzerland who graced our kickoff with a gig.
Eleven of their 12 album releases have reached the number one spot in
Switzerland.

HAVANA BLACK (FIN)
Southern rock from Finland? Yes, it can work and did so some 20 years
ago with "Faceless Days," "Indian Warrior" and "Exiles In Mainstream."
It still does.

HENSLEY/LAWTON & LIVE FIRE (UK)
Ken Hensley first came to prominence as a keyboardist in Uriah Heep
and he teamed up with John Lawton in the latter parts of the '70s. Of
course you can count on them to play a couple of Heep tracks.

LIZZY BORDEN (US)
Got their name from a young American woman who axe-murdered her
parents. This music will definitely kill you!

MINISTRY (US)
The main man in black has announced that he and the band will retire
but not before Al Jourgensen has visited Sweden Rock Festival. This is
the band who defined and still defines the term metal with an
industrial touch.

MUSTASCH (S)
Probably the most successive hard rock band from Sweden in Sweden
during 2007 thanks to their hit single "Double Nature" from their
latest album LATEST VERSION OF THE TRUTH.

NEGATIVE (FIN)
They started out as something closer to goth rock but can nowadays be
regarded as glam and sleaze rock. Big in Finland and soon to be big
everywhere else.

SABATON (S)
They played Sweden Rock Festival in 2005 and their fan base has been
growing ever since. A new album will be released this coming spring.

SAXON (UK)
One of the most classic bands hailing from NWOBHM-era makes every
festival better. And yes -- they're bringing their eagle with them!

SHAKIN' STREET
Fronted by beautiful Fabienne Shine this band released two albums in
the '80s. Fabienne, Ross The Boss, Mike Winter and Jean-Lou plus
Phillipe Kalfon and Phillipe Bonnano are back.

TESLA (US)
Had great success in the early '90s in the U.S. starting with
MECHANICAL RESONANCE but disbanded in 1994. The band members have
found their way back together. First ever visit to Sweden Rock
Festival.

THE BLUES BAND (UK)
Much talked about blues band from England who has existed close to 30
years. This is an institution!

ULI JOHN ROTH (D)
Played a handful of songs together with his former band mates in
Scorpions at our festival in June this year and the German guitarist
will return with his own band. He has concentrated on combining
heavier rock with orchestral elements and his masterpeice
METAMORPHOSIS was released in 2004. He's got a new album coming out
next year.

VOLBEAT (DK)
Heavy and hard from Denmark with a singer who reminds a lot about
Elvis Presley!

Here are some essential facts regarding our festival!

DATES
The festival will be held between the 4th June and 7th June 2008. The
reactions from our visitors during 2007 for the four-day festival were
so overwhelming that we decided to do it again. The capacity for June
4th will be 10,000 and three stages -- Sweden Stage, Zeppelin Stage
and the Gibson Tent -- will be open with bands performing.

TICKETS
Can ONLY be bought via our official Web site at
http://www.swedenrock.com/ . The festivals in 2004, 2005 and 2006 were
sold out well in advance. With some 30,000 visitors the Sweden Rock
Festival was the biggest festival we have staged so far regarding the
number of bands and days.

WC
The festival has made a major investment in a building on the festival
site with facilities such as toilets and water taps.

NEW CAMPING AREA FOR DISABLED
As a consequence of this new building our camping site for the
disabled has been moved to a site closer to the sea enabling us to
accomodate more people.

MORE ACTS TO FOLLOW
We will continue to announce more bands over the next couple of
months. Please check out our official Web site for more news. If you
have questions please feel free to send an e-mail to Media Manager
Tony Balogh who van be reached at tony@....

Kind regards

Michael Harris is one of the most acclaimed instrumental guitarists
going thanks to a number of solo releases over the last two decades
and his current prog metal band Thought Chamber. His 2006 Lion Music
release ORCHESTRATE received scorching reviews from media worldwide,
so why has Michael decided to re-release his 1996 work EGO DECIMATION
PROFILE?

First of all, this release is a re-mixed, re-mastered, and repackaged
version. Michael re-mixed and re-mastered the CD himself. On the re-
mix and re-mastering Michael states, "EDP originally came out in the
'90s, when a drier mix was in vogue, so one of my goals in re-mixing
the record was to get a more ambient sound overall (especially on the
lead guitars and drums). My goals were also to get a better drum tone,
to get a 'rounder' sound overall, and to use the stereo field a bit
more with things like stereo delays and panning."

Stylistically, EGO DECIMATION PROFILE is a combination of metal, prog,
funk, groove, and jazz fusion and is considered Harris' heaviest
instrumental disc to date, as there is a running "metal" influence in
all of the songs, although it does contain three of Michael's personal
favourite slower numbers in "Grandscape," "Pawn To King IV," and
"Terminus Epic." Melody and composition were Michael's primary focus
on the CD. As progressive as it gets at times, Harris tried to never
go too over the top with flashy solos or intricate parts. The album
was also an open invitation to great musicianship from the other
players and to achieve that many of the tracks were purposely composed
with sections that had trade-offs.

On Michael's aim with the album he states, "It was to blend rock,
prog, jazz fusion, groove, funk, and neo classical all with melody and
lots of guitar. Other than the opening piece, 'Forewarning,' there are
not a lot of keyboards on the record. My goal on any of my
instrumental records is that the compositions are strong, the melodies
are original and memorable, and that I'm not just showing how many
notes I can play on guitar."

Michael's Track-By-Track Analysis

01) Forewarning – "Forewarning" was a compositional turning point for
me. I envisioned composing a very heavy, progressive, and orchestrated
piece, which I achieved with "FW," and I consider it my first "mini-
symphony." Rob Stankiewicz played a great drum track and I played all
the other instruments. For this re-mixed version, I actually re-
recorded the steel string acoustic guitar intro with a nylon string.
This was the only part on the whole record that I re-recorded.

02) Vicious Uppercut – Being heavy and fast with progressive touches,
"Vicious" felt like a good follow up to "Forewarning" and set the tone
for the disc.

03) Stratus-Fear – The theme to this piece was the chorus, which was
based on a G#-E riff that I'd had sitting around for awhile which
really blossomed when I thought of the melody on top of it. Then I
wrote the progressive middle section which has a triplet feel.

04) Julius Seizure – Even before DEFENSE MECHANIZMS, I'd had a vision
of fusing metal with jazz (my father being a jazz musician), and
"Julius" really typified what I was trying to achieve. I also wanted
to include a clean jazz break in a heavy tune, and patiently waited
for the right inspiration for such a break to be included in this
piece. Keith Carlock just smoked on this one. Although at the time he
was relatively unknown, I'd recruited him based on his great
reputation. As amazing as he was even back then, I don't think anyone
could have predicted the success his future would bring. He eventually
moved to N.Y. and has since played with John Scofield, Steely Dan, and
Sting.

05) Pawn To King IV – Based on counterpoint-esque and classical-esque
melodies achieved with all volume swells, I haven't done a piece like
this before or since. I'd had a demo stashed away for quite some time,
so I refined it a bit, and it ended up being a nice dynamic for the
record.

06) Grandscape – This sounded very soundtrack-esque -- the melodies,
feel, and lead guitar tone were most important to me. It's relatively
simple and one of my favourites on the record.

07) Hair On The E String – This title is a take off of Bach's "Air On
The G String." The song is not neo-classical however, but metal-esque
with a main theme that is in lydian mode and a progressive midsection
with great drumming from Rob.

08) Freudian Trip – I've enjoyed playing funk for years, and I'd
consider "Freudian" to be a metal funk tune. Keith and David were
right at home on this one and it was just plain fun.

9) Brainwarp: The heaviest tune on the record. I knew it would be
perfect for Matt Thompson on drums. My middle solo starts with one of
my favourite and most insane licks.

10) Terminus Epic: Definitely one of my faves on the record. I spent a
lot of time arranging it. For quite awhile, I had wanted to compose a
rapid solo or break that was all natural harmonics, which I did in
this midsection, kind of a "song within a song."

Neal Morse – SING IT HIGH (A COLLECTION OF SINGLES)

For quite awhile people have been urging Neal to put together a CD
that features the songs. You know, the song parts between the fiddly
bits; the parts that the prog fans' wives listen to and say "hey, I
actually LIKE that!" But when it came time to put the CD together,
Neal was a bit at a loss as to what to put on there. Some songs were
obvious ("We All Need Some Light" and "Wind At My Back," e.g.) but
there were a lot of other candidates. After careful consideration and
a little help from his friends, Neal came up with a fantastic
collection of favorites that is sure to stay in the CD player good
long time, as your wife isn't likely to throw it out the car window!
Inner Circle member Martin Kornick (maninthemountain) did an EXCELLENT
job on the artwork for this one as well. Here's the track list:

1. The Change (from the Neal Morse CD IT'S NOT TOO LATE)
2. We All Need Some Light (from the Transatlantic CD SMPTE)

-Rocket Scientists Announce LOOKING BACKWARD Five-Disc Multimedia Box
Set

California prog rockers revisit their back catalog with an
exceptionally grand release

Acclaimed California prog rock band Rocket Scientists has announced
the release of LOOKING BACKWARD, a multi-disc package that reissues
and revisits their back catalog in grand fashion. LOOKING BACKWARD
contains expertly re-mastered CD editions of the band's first three
studio albums; EARTHBOUND (1993); BRUTAL ARCHITECTURE (1995); and
OBLIVION DAYS (1999) along with bonus tracks on each disc. All of the
original artwork is included in the package as part of a full-color
64-page 5x7 book. The LOOKING BACKWARD book also contains thorough
liner notes and commentary from the musicians along with extensive
photos by Raj Naik, Neil Zlozower and Scott Streble.

To complete the LOOKING BACKWARD package, the core Rocket Scientists
musicians, Mark McCrite (v,g), Erik Norlander (k) and Don Schiff
(Stick), returned to the same Los Angeles area studio where they
recorded the early albums and commenced a series of new sessions with
drummer / percussionist Greg Ellis who appears on Norlander and
Schiff's solo albums as well as on the Rocket Scientists OBLIVION DAYS
album from 1999. The quartet recorded a new disc of "live in the
studio" material where they reinterpreted songs from the band's early
studio albums, some with the benefit of over 15 years of perspective.
This fourth disc, THE 2007 SESSIONS, chronicles those recordings.
Additional unreleased material recorded over the years was added to
THE 2007 SESSIONS disc including a special version of the Rocket
Scientists classic, "Mariner," with guest vocals from long time Erik
Norlander collaborator, Kelly Keeling. Two songs from the OBLIVION
DAYS album, "Escape" and "Break The Silence," were also re-mixed
especially for THE 2007 SESSIONS disc.

But the band didn't stop there. Producer Erik Norlander brought in an
HD video crew to film THE 2007 SESSIONS, and these live-in-the-studio
performances appear in the LOOKING BACKWARD package on the fifth disc,
an NTSC region-free DVD. The DVD also includes lengthy interviews with
the band as well as historical footage going all the way back to the
first album recording sessions in 1992. Norlander also filmed a bonus
featurette, "An Afternoon With Emmett Chapman," where Stick maestro
Don Schiff discusses his groundbreaking instruments with their
creator, inventor Emmett Chapman.

The band has posted three videos from the LOOKING BACKWARD release on
their YouTube channel at http://www.youtube.com/rocketscientists .
They have also posted four of the new recordings on their MySpace page
at http://www.myspace.com/rocketscientistsband . LOOKING BACKWARD is a
superb collection of Rocket Scientists recordings packaged on a grand
scale. Fans of Rocket Scientists, Erik Norlander and progressive rock
in general will find this to be an essential part of their CD and DVD
collection.

Worldwide Release Date: December 17, 2007 on the Think Tank Media
label distributed by ProgRock Records.

MAD MARGRITT - ANIMAL
Released 2007 (Perris Records)

Reviewed by Tania for Sleaze Roxx, November 2007.
http://www.sleazeroxx.com/

"When I think of Mad Margritt I always wonder why their sexy cover art
for COLD SWEAT never got banned and Bon Jovi's SLIPPERY WHEN WET did?
But of course COLD SWEAT came out in 1997 and obviously things were a
bit less conservative than in 1986. Anyway, onto Mad Margritt's latest
release ANIMAL, this has a heavier feel and sound to it than their
previous recordings. I was a little disappointed that there were only
seven full-length songs on ANIMAL, but the songs themselves are
anything but disappointing.

"'Extreme Osculation' makes for an interesting instrumental first
track which, and I'm taking a wild guess here, would be more aptly
named 'Extreme Orgasm' -- but maybe it's my less than pure imagination
and I've got it wrong. Either way it's a very pleasant little 32
second opener.

"'Ruling Me' is, and although it isn't very rock 'n' roll to use the
word 'pretty,' this song is just that, a pretty melodic kind of number
but with a bit more punch than the typical cheese-ball ballad. 'I
Don't Think I Love You' is an infectious outstanding rocker as is
'Don't Say A Word.' Catchy stuff indeed, with smooth strong backing
vocals. But the track 'Loaded Gun' is undoubtedly the band's finest
hour, aggressive with big hooks and a nice sleazy sound.

"If you liked their album NEW SENSATION (let's conveniently forget the
weak cover of AC/DC's 'T.N.T.' that appeared on it) and if you like
bands like Parlor Trixx and early Warrant -- singer Eddie Smith sounds
a bit like Jani Lane to my ear -- you should be more than satisfied
with ANIMAL. This is Mad Margritt's best release to date, a great
sounding straightforward rock album that would have been right at home
in the music scene of 1989."

Mad Margritt also appeared this month on "The Sean Hollywood Show" and
were the featured "Artist Of The Month" by Song Planet's DJ Zjhok.

-The Paramour Group Is Proud To Present A Superstar Band That Was Way
Ahead Of Their Time -- One Of Rock N' Roll's Best Bands -- The Long
Awaited Reunion Of Derringer

Since their original signing, Derringer has been considered one of the
best guitar duos of all time. With the release of their first album,
DERRINGER, the band found themselves the opening act for Aerosmith's
TOYS IN THE ATTIC and ROCKS tours. Derringer's next album release,
SWEET EVIL, found them the support act for Boston's "More Than A
Feeling Tour." From there they went on to support Led Zeppelin for two
nights at Bill Graham's "Day On The Green" in Oakland, CA.

After the break-up of Derringer, the band members -- Rick Derringer,
Kenny Aaronson, Vinny Appice, and Danny Johnson -- all went on to put
their mark on the history of rock and roll by working with some of the
most well known icons in the music industry.

Rick Derringer: Alice Cooper, KISS, Cyndi Lauper, Meat Loaf, The
McCoys, Todd Rundgrun, Michael Stanley, Steely Dan, Edgar, and Johnny,
Winter.

Kenny Aaronson: Bob Dylan, Dave Edmunds, Hall & Oates, Sammy Hagar,
Neil Schon, Billy Idol, Joan Jett, Brian Setzer, Mick Taylor, Leslie
West.

Vinny Appice: Axis, Black Sabbath, Dio, Heaven & Hell, Hollywood All
Stars, George Lynch, WWIII.

Danny Johnson: Alcatrazz, Alice Cooper, Axis, Graham Bonnet, Rod
Stewart, Steppenwolf.

Now Derringer, who influenced so many young guitar players, and
musicians in general, has reunited once again.

Do not miss this opportunity to see history in the making.

The Paramour Group along with Derringer is pleased to announce that
Derringer has reunited to perform at Sweden Rock '08, and will be
doing selective dates for all of 2008.

-Coheed And Cambria To Hit The Road Supporting Linkin Park

Columbia Records is proud to announce that Coheed And Cambria will be
supporting Linkin Park on all dates of their upcoming national tour.
The tour goes from February 12 to March 10 and will be hitting 19
cities, including Madison Square Garden in New York. The dates come on
the heels of Coheed's successful sold-out 25-date national headlining
tour that wrapped at New York City's Roseland Ballroom on November 29,
2007.

In their live review of the Los Angeles show at The Wiltern, the "LA
Times" raved:

"Self-indulgence is frequently seen as a crime in modern rock music,
but without it there would have been no Led Zeppelin or SGT. PEPPER,
no Ziggy Stardust or System Of A Down. Overreaching sometimes pays
off. And few young bands reach further than the prog-metal act Coheed
And Cambria, for whom the extremes of time and space hardly seem to be
enough," and concluded that the band had "epic sound and fury."

Coheed are touring to support their fourth record, NO WORLD FOR
TOMORROW, which debuted at #6 on the Billboard top 200, giving the
band their highest debut in their career as well as its highest chart
position. Radio continues to show huge support across the country for
the album's first single, "The Running Free" (charting on both
Alternative and Active charts) while critical response to the album
has been fantastic. Besides being highlighted in fall preview features
in "New York" magazine, "USA Today" and the "New York Times,"
"Blender" magazine said that with the release of the new record,
"Coheed have found their sweet spot." David Fricke in "Rolling Stone"
noted the band's "impressive resolution in the decisive pop arc of the
mutating riffs and slippery time signatures," and concluded, "there is
plenty worthy of rewind here." "Revolver" gave the record four stars
in their lead review and said that, "this record feels like the
beginning of something new," as it marks Coheed's "ascent from the
geek-metal underground to the heavy-music mainstream."

Coheed And Cambria (Sanchez - vocals, guitar; Travis Stever - guitar;
Mic Todd - bass) spent the first half of 2007 working on NO WORLD FOR
TOMORROW in Los Angeles with producer Nick Raskulinecz (Foo Fighters,
Rush, Stone Sour) and mixer Randy Staub (Metallica, Nickelback).
Coheed recruited Taylor Hawkins from the Foo Fighters to play drums on
the record, while ex-Dillinger Escape Plan drummer Chris Pennie is now
a permanent fixture in the band and has taken their live shows to new
heights.

NO WORLD FOR TOMORROW has sold over 100,000 copies in four weeks, and
the Linkin Park dates mark the first time the band has played in
arenas.

The tour dates are as follows:

DATE - CITY - VENUE

2/12 - Omaha, NE - Qwest Center Omaha

-Long Distance Calling's Space-out Post-metal...

Nothing that makes this world a better place lasts for only three
minutes. Nothing of relevance embraces you and abruptly leaves
afterwards. Music does not need to be divided into five minute long
chapters, verse-chorus-verse. Music needs room not rules, it needs
freedom not boundaries -- Long Distance Calling make sure to do
exactly that.

When David Jordan (guitar), Janosch Rathmer (drums), Florian Fόntmann
(guitar), Jan Hoffmann (bass) and Reimut van Bonn (ambience) started
rehearsing early 2006 all of them had already been active in several
mostly way heavier bands. But they all knew that this time it would be
something completely different: No limits, only the will, the wish to
let go, to surrender oneself, to not look back.

Now, Long Distance Calling present you the first result of their free
flight: SATELLITE BAY. Seven tracks clocking up to one hour. Seven
times they were born out of small ideas, fragments -- samples, cymbal
clashes, bass lines, rhythms or basic guitar ideas -- seven times
these tiny pieces grew into true monsters of post-rock. Sound spaces
that fill entire landscapes -- sonic moments you can only achieve if
you work tirelessly, without making any compromises, by sacrificing
yourself. Music that makes that bloody dream jam session of Tool,
Dredg, Godspeed You! Black Emperor and Isis invalid. Long Distance
Calling do not even need words for doing that. The sole lyric on the
album was created and performed by Peter Dolving (The Haunted / Bring
The War Home) in "Built Without Hands" and it will make you wince like
being warned of something really, really big.

It demands: an hour. It gives you: seven journeys around the world.

"At times they can jack themselves into Tool's bombastic stratosphere,
but mostly this is a highly artistic soundscape metal band that will
soon gain the same respect in the post metal... underground commanded

well thought-out." 9/10 - RockHard

-Southern Lord 2008 Update

Coming in the first quarter of 2008 from Southern Lord Recordings....

Earth - THE BEE MADE HONEY IN THE LION'S SKULL - February 2008

Earth's latest incarnation has arrived. After re-faceting some old
gems for greater illumination on HIBERNACULUM, the band returns one
again to its continuing evolution. Where HEX... reveled in dark
Satanic twang and austere American beauty, THE BEE MADE HONEY IN THE
LION'S SKULL finds Dylan Carlson and the band growing into a harder,
more rock and American Gospel-oriented and improvisational direction
framed by truly psychedelic production and blazing guitar sounds.
Earth shows its affinity with a nod to the best elements of the more
adventurous San Francisco bands of the late '60s and '70s, and the
more spiritually aware and exciting forms of Jazz-Rock from the same
era. This is no nostalgia trip but a thoroughly inspired and original
metamorphosis. Earth is honored to be joined on this record for three
songs by legendary virtuoso guitarist Bill Frisell (John Zorn, Elvis
Costello, Ginger Baker, etc.) showcasing some of his most fuzzed out
playing in years! Frisell adds a brilliant texture and counterpoint to
the scintillating and inspired riffs of Dylan Carlson and the band.
Adrienne Davies joins again on drums, lending a classic and steady
feel to the proceedings. Steve Moore also returns adding heavy Hammond
organ and his intense jazz inspired piano playing. Live bassist Don
McGreevy also makes his full-length Earth debut on this record. Earth
will begin touring throughout the world when the album is released,
Australia, Europe and a full U.S. campaign and on from there. The new
songs are equally compelling live where Earth takes the vehicles and
expand and explore them for further musical and meditative
exploration.

-Wow does that suck about Kevin DuBrow. Somehow I managed to see Quiet
Riot only once, at a club show in the mid-'90s, and the band
absolutely rocked. Love him or hate him, nobody could deny he was
always one of the more entertaining and colorful figures in hard rock.
Remember those legendary verbal spats with Van Halen in the '80s?
Great stuff there! :) R.I.P.

-I cracked up because the unedited version of that Sweden Rock
Festival press release announcing the 26 bands set to appear listed
Judas Priest's drummer as "Randy" Travis. Um, no. Had to fix that one
up before running it... :)

-Now in my current playlist: Annihilator - METAL (SPV USA), Funny
Money - STICK IT! (Perris Records), Angel Of Eden - THE END OF NEVER
(Lion Music), Megadeth - UNITED ABOMINATIONS (Roadrunner Records),
Battlelore - EVERNIGHT (Napalm Records).

JESSE DAMON - REBEL WITHIN (B/B-) On Fire Records, 2006

Silent Rage's Jesse Damon -- with longtime collaborator Paul Sabu
serving as producer -- is back with a new solo album that rocks a
little harder than his previous efforts. "Cry Out Loud" starts things
off with darker lyrics and a more ominous vibe (and a bit of the
"Whole Lotta Love" riff) than you might expect from Mr. Damon, and it
totally works. The vibe is only part of what the album's about,
though, as the song is followed up by the sassy, fun cock-rocker
"Pretty Girl (With A Nasty Habit)" and the driving "Goin' Crazy."
Elsewhere, the mixture of rockers and ballads peppered with more
serious themes and moments is highlighted by "Livin' On The Edge"
(nice summer-y air in places), "Hell Hole To Heaven" (an ode to the
road), "Lethal Rebel" (a building power ballad with strong vocals from
Damon), and the cool, slow closer "Victim Of Madness" (which
effectively incorporates some Queensryche styled headphone
trippiness). The disc feels a little patched-together in places but is
strong overall.

HELLOWEEN - GAMBLING WITH THE DEVIL (A+) SPV/Steamhammer, 2007

Hey, wow! This album rules!! It's the best thing the band has done
since guitarist Roland Grapow departed in the early '00s to form
Masterplan, and easily the best overall since 1998's BETTER THAN RAW.
I'll never say I gave up on Helloween -- no way -- but I had lost a
little faith after the two karaoke albums (1998) and the uneven covers
collection METAL JUKEBOX (1999) were released, and then THE DARK RIDE
(2000) left me a little cold, RABBIT DON'T COME EASY (2003) struck me
as just decent, and KEEPER OF THE SEVEN KEYS - THE LEGACY (2005) was
unnecessarily/unwisely tagged with the hallowed "Keeper Of The Seven
Keys" aegis. But man does GAMBLING WITH THE DEVIL rock out! The band
is back on track and then some. The heavy parts just seem heavier, the
anthemic parts really make you want to wave along, and the guitar
parts are just flat-out *better* than they've been recently. The short
intro "Crack The Riddle" features Saxon grand wizard Biff Byford
guesting as a demonically voiced character, and then "Kill It" fires
up and pounds you senseless. Too many highlights, really (although I
must single out "Paint A New World" as the coolest Helloween song in
*ages*), so definitely find a way to get yourself a copy of this gem.
I can't believe it's taken me a month to get this review done -- shame
on me!

STORMTROOPERS OF DEATH (S.O.D.) – RISE OF THE INFIDELS (B) MegaForce
Records, 2007
24 tracks, RT: 55:20
Stormtroopers Of Death have been officially disbanded for a few years
now, and a reunion seems unlikely at this point since Scott Ian, Billy
Milano, and Charlie Benante went through a very ugly public mud-
slinging match in the metal press at the time of their breakup.
Depending on which side of the fence you're on, then, S.O.D.'s new
RISE OF THE INFIDELS can be viewed as either a final gift to the fans
of the mighty thrash/hardcore crossover kings, or as an example of
their record label squeezing the last bit of juice out of the band's
name to make a few more bucks. (Since this disc hit stores only a
month or so before Billy Milano's new M.O.D. album, RED, WHITE AND
SCREWED, the argument can be made that they're trying to steal Billy's
thunder with this release as well.) RISE OF THE INFIDELS is a
compilation CD being billed as "The World's Longest EP," featuring
four hard to find studio tracks (likely the last scraps of rare/
unreleased stuff in the S.O.D. vaults) and a live set recorded at the
Fenix in Seattle (taped during the band's 1999 BIGGER THAN THE DEVIL
road trip, even though no songs from that album appear on this CD). Of
the four studio tracks that start the disc, I got the most chuckles
out of "Java Amigo" (a hilarious rant about the omnipresence of
Starbucks and their fancy-pants gourmet yuppie coffee) and the cover
of the Agnostic Front classic "United And Strong" (very similar to
S.O.D.'s own "United Forces"), then the real fun begins when the
Stormtroopers bring their live assault to Seattle. Kicking off their
live set with "The Ballad Of Nirvana" (band: several bars of "Smells
Like Teen Spirit," Milano: "YOU'RE DEAD!," end of song) -- nothing
like getting on a crowd's bad side right away by insulting their
favorite native son! -- you get most of the S.O.D. classics from the
SPEAK ENGLISH OR DIE album here, such as "Kill Yourself," "Milano
Mosh," "Douche Crew," "Milk," and the aforementioned "United Forces."
The live tracks vary in quality, but are still relatively listenable
throughout, resembling a decent bootleg recording more than a
"professional" live album. But then, S.O.D. never came off as the most
"professional" crew to begin with, preferring instead to make fun of
and piss off everything and everybody, so a crystal clear live
recording from these guys probably wouldn't have sounded right anyway.
Unfortunately I never had the pleasure of seeing S.O.D. live but it
seems like they must've put on one hell of a funny show. I cracked up
when the band busted into a few bars of Slayer's "Raining Blood" in
the middle of "Speak English Or Die," and in addition to the "Ballad"
dedicated to Cobain (which they play a SECOND time in the middle of
the set just to add insult to injury!), we also hear similar
"tributes" to Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Michael Hutchence of INXS,
Freddie Mercury, and Frank Sinatra. Billy Milano's crowd patter, of
course, is pure lowbrow comedic genius (he introduces "F**k The Middle
East" as "a song of hope" -- ha!), as is the "six songs in five
seconds" medley (which has been heard already a live bonus track on
the "platinum reissue" of SPEAK ENGLISH OR DIE, but what the hell,
it's still funny). Now that S.O.D. is history, Billy really ought to
consider going into standup comedy! RISE OF THE INFIDELS may not be an
essential purchase for everyone, but S.O.D. diehards (and I know there
are still a lot of you out there) should be pleased with this last (?)
testament from "Sergeant D" and crew.
