-Harem Scarem's Farewell DVD Details Announced
We are delighted to announce the official release of the first of the
live DVDs shot at Firefest 4 last October. The first release will be
Harem Scarem's RAW AND RARE. This release will be available as a
collector's edition set consisting of the final Harem Scarem live
performance ever, which took place at Firefest 4 on October 27, 2007.
The package also contains a full live show, recorded in Ajax, Canada
in 1994 whilst the band was in the middle of the MOOD SWINGS world
tour. This is the first time that a show from the legendary MOOD
SWINGS tour has been officially released and is a MUST HAVE for every
fan of the band. And as a bonus feature, Harry and Pete have rifled
through the vaults and come up with some never before seen privately
shot footage of the band throughout the years. As a further bonus the
guys are making four live clips available that were recorded on the
1997 European Tour. To complete the edition, the CD disc in the
package is the live audio of the final Firefest 4 performance. The
collectors edition will be a limited edition of 1,000 copies only,
each one individually numbered.
The DVD portion of the collector's edition will be a super-extended
dual layer disc. For those who may be unfamiliar with the terminology
"Dual Layer," what it basically means is the single DVD disc contained
in this package is the equivalent of two standard DVDs. Dual layer
discs are now industry standard and most shop bought DVDs featuring
large amounts of extras now use this format.
As the band has many fans throughout the world, the release will be
available in both PAL and NTSC format, and also region free, so when
ordering please state your preference.
Now the tricky part; of the 1,000 copies available, 700 are available
in PAL format and 300 available in NTSC format, and when they are
gone, that's it. This collector's edition will not be reprinted by
Harem Scarem or Firefest, so if you want to be sure to get your copy
of this essential release we will be accepting pre-orders through
http://www.thefirefest.com/ OR http://www.haremscarem.net/ .
Please also note that this release can only be ordered from the above
Web sites and will not be available from any online retailers or mail
order specialists. If you fancy a taste of what's to come, please drop
by http://www.thefirefest.com/ where there is a short preview
available.
Pre-Orders: we will be accepting pre-orders for this release from
TODAY.
Shipping: Should commence from Monday March 10th to all territories.
Cost: for UK and Europe the total price of the package is £23
including postage. For U.S.A., Canada and all other countries the
total price including postage is £25.
Payment method: PayPal, International Bank Draft. U.K. orders can also
pay by Postal Orders or personal cheque for U.K.
PayPal Payment address: fireworks.mag@...
Postal Address: Firefest, 10 Dunnock Close, Offerton, Stockport, SK2
5XD, England. Please make all drafts, cheques and postal orders
payable to "Bruce Mee."
Please also check http://www.thefirefest.com/ regularly for the latest
on the forthcoming Firefest 5. We hope to make an official
announcement regarding the full three day lineup in the very, very
near future.

-Dream Theater "Progressive Nation" Tour Launches May 2 In Los
Angeles; Rhino To Release First-Ever Two-Disc Best Of April 1
N.Y. Prog-Metal Pioneers Will Go on Road with Opeth, Between The
Buried And Me and 3 for 21-date North American Tour to Promote
GREATEST HIT Album
LOS ANGELES, FEBRUARY 28, 2008 -- N.Y. progressive metal pioneers
Dream Theater will embark on its 21-date North American "Progressive
Nation" tour starting May 2 at Los Angeles' Gibson Amphitheatre and
concluding June 1 in Tampa, FL, highlighted by two shows at New York's
brand-new Terminal 5 (May 21-22), which sold out in just two days.
Opening acts Opeth, Between The Buried And Me and 3 were personally
picked by Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy, who helped organize the
tour: "I've wanted to do something that focuses on the more
progressive, musician-oriented side of hard rock and metal for 10
years now," he says. "I decided it was time to stop talking the talk,
lace up and finally walk the walk."
The tour will be preceded on April 1 by the release of Dream Theater's
GREATEST HIT (...AND 21 OTHER PRETTY COOL SONGS) on Rhino, the album's
tongue-in-cheek title refers to "Pull Me Under," the first and only
major radio hit for the quintet; this is the band's first-ever best-of
compilation, spanning 14 years and 22 songs, featuring rare edits, B-
sides and three new Kevin Shirley mixes. The two discs are divided
into "The Dark Side" (the metallic) and "The Light Side" (the
melodic), with songs ranging from their sophomore 1992 release, IMAGES
AND WORDS, through 2005's OCTAVARIUM.
The band's 22-year career has seen them sell more than 8 million
albums worldwide, with their last three DVDs each having gone
platinum. The band has been on the road since June 2007, playing to
growing crowds in Asia, Australia and South America, on the "Chaos In
Motion" world tour in support of their most recent Roadrunner Records
studio album, SYSTEMATIC CHAOS, one of the most successful of their
career. "Forsaken," the second video from the disc, shot in Japanese
anime, recently debuted on MTV 2's "Headbanger's Ball" after "Constant
Motion" was voted #2 Video of the Year by viewers of the show last
year. They were featured as Artist of the Month on Microsoft Xbox Live
in December 2007.
The group continues to grow its fan base all over the world, including
Central and South America, Europe, Asia and Australia. Dream Theater
topped the bill for the 2005 Gigantour alongside Megadeth, and has
also co-headlined with both Queensryche and Joe Satriani. On April 1,
2006, the band played New York's Radio City Music Hall, a show which
sold out in just three days.

Cosmics Coming Soon On Lion Music
Daniele Liverani's new project Cosmics is coming soon from Lion Music
with the instrumental/experimental concept album THE COSMIC YEAR, a
collection of the 10 tracks which in a melodic and prog metal setting
based around keyboardist Daniele Liverani (Twinspirits, Genius,
Khymera) along with "special guest" drummer Virgil Donati (Steve Vai,
Planet X, Ring Of Fire), guitarist Tommy Ermolli (Twinspirits,
Khymera) and Rufus Philpot (Planet X). THE COSMIC YEAR is an
instrumental tour-de-force influenced by the evolution of the universe
from big bang to present day -- see below for a clear introduction to
this concept idea, taken from Carl Sagan's book "The Dragons Of Eden"
that is explaining the basics of The Cosmic Year concept.
The album is scheduled for release in April 2008 (date TBC)
Sound clips can be heard now at http://www.myspace.com/cosmicsproject
.
Cosmics are:
Daniele Liverani: Keyboards
Tommy Ermolli: Guitars
Rufus Philpot: Bass
Virgil Donati: Drums
Cosmics - THE COSMIC YEAR Concept
15.000.000.000 years of universe' evolution compared to one solar
year, approximately 365 days, 8760 hours, 31.536.000 seconds...
...THE WORLD is very old, and human beings are very young. Significant
events in our personal lives are measured in years or less; our
lifetimes in decades; our family genealogies in centuries; and all of
recorded history in millennia. But we have been preceded by an awesome
vista of time, extending for prodigious periods into the past, about
which we know little, both because there are no written records and
because we have real difficulty in grasping the immensity of the
intervals involved. Yet we are able to date events in the remote past.
Geological stratification and radioactive dating provide information
on archaeological, palenotological and geological events; and
astrophysical theory provides data on the ages of planetary surfaces,
stars, and the Milky Way Galaxy, as well as an estimate of the time
that has elapsed since that extraordinary event called the Big Bang,
an explosion that involved all of the matter and energy in the present
universe. The Big Bang may be the beginning of the universe, or it may
be a discontinuity in which information about the earlier history of
the universe was destroyed. But it is certainly the earliest event
about which we have any record. The most instructive way I know to
express this cosmic chronology is to imagine the fifteen-billion-year
lifetime of the universe (or at least its present incarnation since
the Big Bang) compressed into the span of a single year. Then every
billion years of Earth history would correspond to about twenty-four
days of our cosmic year, and one second of that year to 475 real
revolutions of the Earth about the sun. I present the cosmic
chronology in three forms: a list of some representative pre-December
dates; a calendar for the month of December; and a closer look at the
late evening of New Year's Eve. On this scale, the events of our
history books are so compressed that it is necessary to give a second-
by-second recounting of the last seconds of the cosmic year. In the
history of life, an equally rich tapestry must have been woven in
other periods, for example, between 10:02 and 10:03 on the morning of
April 6th or September 16th. But we have detailed records only for the
very end of the cosmic year. The chronology corresponds to the best
evidence now available. But some of it is rather shaky. No one would
be astounded if, for example, it turns out that plants colonised the
land in the Ordovician rather than the Silurian Period; or that
segmented worms appeared earlier in the Precambrian Period than
indicated. Also in the chronology of the last ten seconds of the
cosmic year, it was obviously impossible for me to include all
significant events; I hope I may be excused for not having explicitly
mentioned advances in art, music and literature or the historically
significant American, French, Russian and Chinese revolutions. The
construction of such tables and calendars is inevitably humbling. It
is disconcerting to find that in such a cosmic year the Earth does not
condense out of interstellar matter until early September; dinosaurs
emerge on Christmas Eve; flowers arise on December 28th; and men and
women originate at 10:30 P.M. on New Year's Eve. All of recorded
history occupies the last ten seconds of December 31st; and the time
from the waning of the Middle Ages to the present occupies little more
than one second. But because I have arranged it that way, the first
cosmic year has just ended. And despite the insignificance of the
instant we have so far occupied in cosmic time, it is clear that what
happens on and near Earth at the beginning of the second cosmic ear
will depend very much on the scientific wisdom and the distinctly
human sensitivity of mankind...

-Carl Palmer Has Successful Heart Operation Procedure
Carl Palmer, drummer extraordinaire and founding member of Emerson,
Lake & Palmer; Asia and The Carl Palmer Band; has recently had a
successful heart operation carried out at an undisclosed hospital.
Palmer, 57, had an angioplasty procedure done which is designed to
prevent further narrowing of an artery in his heart by insertion of a
stent.
"I am happy to say the procedure was a complete success and I am
already feeling better each day," says Palmer, who is resting before
beginning the Asia 2008 World Tour, set to begin in March. "This was a
precautionary measure done to ensure my safety. In my case, it was as
a result of a hereditary factor, and the physicians involved wanted to
make sure every precaution was taken. I am very grateful for their
medical expertise and care."
With the procedure behind him, Palmer is cleared once again to resume
his normal work schedule, which includes tours with both Asia and his
own group, The Carl Palmer Band. Aside from its World Tour launching
next month, Asia will be releasing PHOENIX, its first new studio album

Upcoming Releases:
Draconian - TURNING SEASON WITHIN (March 4)
The latest work from the Swedish masters of doom is both tragic and
beautiful, and filled with songs of longing and drama. Only Draconian
is able to so skillfully follow romantic passages and wonderful female
vocal arrangements with the tuned-down walls of darkish riffs and
violent vocal passages or even compose dreamy melodies fit for an
eternity, only to forcefully tear them down. A beguiling yet heavy
fusion of Doom and Gothic Metal.
Pre-Listening of the complete album on
http://www.myspace.com/draconianmusic .
"Take their atmospheric doom/death one step further...contemporize by
adding a Katatonia-like sense of disharmony...Draconian can still do
no wrong" – Decibel [8/10 rating]
Atrocity - WERK 80 II (March 4)
http://www.atrocity.de/
"The mega hits of the '80s -- heavier than ever before!" is the motto
of the latest Atrocity hit collection, WERK 80 II. Not unlike the
highly acclaimed forerunner, the German extreme Metal pioneers have
chosen only the best of the golden '80s and given each song a Heavy
Metal twist. WERK 80 II is an album that will undoubtedly fill the
dance floors.
"Compilations of cover versions, particularly old '80s songs, can be
very hit or miss. Thankfully, this album by Atrocity is mainly packed
with hits...If Alien Ant Farm can have a hit 'Smooth Criminal,' then
Atrocity should have a hit with 'People Are People.'" – Hails & Horns
Stuck Mojo - SOUTHERN BORN KILLERS (March 4)
http://www.stuckmojo.us/
The originators of Crossover Metal are back. In the usual Stuck Mojo
tradition, the ruthless lads from Atlanta strike with full force,
combining heavy grooves with phat monster riffs. In addition, dirty
Southern Rock and a whole lot of murderous hooklines, as well as
controversial lyrics that self-define the Americans as "Southern Born
Killers," complete this package.
"An amazing release...they destroy so many styles with aplomb. This
release should thrust Stuck Mojo back into the limelight in front of
all those wannabe bands that are not fit to tie their shoes!
Everything about this release oozes class -- it is the bomb!" – Hails
& Horns

Heidevolk - WALHALLA WACHT (April 22)
http://www.heidevolk.com/
With WALHALLA WACHT the titans of Heidevolk revive the traditional
history of their native province of Gelderland and their Germanic
ancestry by providing lavish quantities of lore and legend cloaked
with Folk Metal garb. Traditional instruments fuse skillfully with
powerful guitars and thrashing drumming to provide the stage for the
clear male vocals of the two frontmen. Whether tackling traditional
ballads, crushing neckbreakers, drinking songs, or epic battle hymns,
Heidevolk remains true to their Folk Metal roots, while delivering a
uniquely authentic album sure to appeal to fans of Otyg or early
Vintersorg. Their pagan convictions will undoubtedly contribute in
raising the next Teutonic storm. Heidevolk cometh!
Midnattsol - NORDLYS (April 1)
http://www.midnattsol.com/
With NORDLYS the Nordic Folk Metal rising stars deliver their long
anticipated album. The sympathetic sextet revolving around the two
blonde beauties has developed further to emphasize emotion and melody
more than ever before, but without forgetting to add a good dose of
heaviness in their latest songs that alternate between fast attacks
and gentle ballads. Nordic myths and tales told by the gentle and
charming voice of Carmen Elise Espenaes give the album the perfect
finishing touch. Allow the Northern Lights to sweep you away and charm
you to your heart's content.

Isole - BLISS OF SOLITUDE - OUT NOW!
http://www.forevermore.se/
Doom masters Isole deliver an abundance of Scandinavian gloom on their
latest album BLISS OF SOLITUDE. Morose epic melodies written in the
minor keys and highlighted by desolate harmonies that are refined with
choral chants draw the listener into the Swedes' dark musical world,
until heavy riffs and pounding drums smash away any trace of suicidal
thoughts, inevitably causing the spinal cord to twitch. Switch off the
lights, put on the headphones, and surrender yourself to a symphony of
despair and isolation.
"Towering...resembles a blustery elegy on the longest of nights" –

Vesania - DISTRACTIVE KILLUSIONS - OUT NOW!
http://www.vesania.pl/
The Polish bludgeoning commando is back! Racing blast beats, rapid-
fire riffs, and symphonic bombastic arrangements come together with a
mongrel mix of Symphonic Black Metal and Death Metal influences.
Vesania are destructive, brutal, and dominant to the extreme. The
perfect soundtrack for the apocalypse.
"Deflecting from cliché 'hail Baphomet' black metal, the highly
skilled lunatic band advocate their abominations sans independent
objective. Their ever-advancing instrumental/vocal conduct has been
uttered in the same breath as greats Emperor and Deathspell Omega" –

-Chinawhite News
Hi Everybody,
Some news from Chinawhite. Chinawho? Chinawhite, that Dutch melodic
progrock band...
Yes we know, it has been quiet for a while, but behind the scenes
there is a lot going on. Singer Don is currently touring with American
guitar wizard Joe Stump, and drummer Hans is dividing his time between
Steve Fister, Vengeance, Marcel Coenen and so on. Still the time has
almost come for our next release: CHALLENGES. Some vocals remain to be
recorded and also the mixing isn't finished yet, so it's still work in
progress. Unfortunately we can't preview the artwork, but here are the
song titles:
· In The Beginning
· Challenges
· Dreams Of A Child
· My Venus Rising
· Stranger
· How Many Miles
· Better Than You
· Inside
· The Storm Rages On
· I Am I
· Dive With A Dolphin
· Wings Of The Wind
All in all over an hour of new Music, that has been put together with
a lot of love and pleasure during the past period. The new album
combines the best of the previous releases, but still shows the band
moving forward. We can't wait for your opinions.
Furthermore the Web site has been expanded with a media player, some
video clips and the Legal Download for A DRAGON'S BIRTH (1997) and
BREATHE FIRE (2000). Also all other recorded tracks by the band, some
of which were only released on cassette in the past, are now available
as DEMO'S 1990 - 2005, 15 tracks in total. Together for the unbeatable
price of 4,99€ or a mere 0,39€ per track. So take a look or listen at
http://www.chinawhite.nl/ . As a service, we offer high quality
downloads of all CD artwork for free...
Because Hans is so busy, we are currently rehearsing with new drummer
René Geurts in order to play more. The first gigs went down really
well, so here's to more of that. To be continued.
That's all for now, thanks, and we will be back when CHALLENGES is to
be released. Keep an eye on the Web site!

-John "JD" DeServio Of Black Label Society Signs With Reform Records
For Solo Project -- Cycle Of Pain
HOLLYWOOD -- Black Label Society's bass-monster, John "JD" DeServio
has signed with newly found label Reform Records for his project Cycle
Of Pain.
Accompanying DeServio in Cycle Of Pain is vocalist/rhythm guitarist
Gregg Locascio, lead guitarist Joe Taylor (who plays with Doro Pesch)
and drummer Rich Monica. In fact, DeServio, Locascio and Taylor were
in a band together when they were only 15 years old. "We grew up
together," says DeServio. "It's family, just like BLS."
The reason behind Cycle Of Pain is simple. "The tunes were written to
create some awesome music," explains DeServio. "This record is very
diverse. Our influences range from Black Sabbath to John Coltrane,
there's even a piano ballad with string arrangements on here. Zakk
Wylde is going to do a guitar solo or two and Brian Tichy will be on a
few songs as well. Cypress Hill is also doing a track with us."
Endorsed by Schecter guitars and an alumni of the prestigious Berklee
College of Music, DeServio's rock 'n' roll resume includes playing
bass for Lita Ford when she opened for Motley Crue on the DR. FEELGOOD
tour. DeServio then joined UFO guitarist Vinnie Moore's band for their
opening stint in front of Rush on the ROLL THE BONES tour. Aligning
himself with Zakk Wylde, in Pride & Glory, DeServio got to open for
Aerosmith. In addition to working with Richie Kotzen and Derek
Sherinian amongst others, DeServio often holds bass clinics and
teaches.
About Reform Records: the truth of their vision lives in their name.
Based in New Jersey, Reform believes in and understands that artist
development is an endless and subjective process. Fully embracing
change and accepting the current revolution the music industry is
undergoing, Reform aims to work with business minded artists who are
committed to success.
Reform's roster includes former label executives from Interscope, A&M
and Elektra Records as well as Sirius Satellite Radio. While the label
may be new, those running it come armed with a wealth of experience.
This is a record company that avoids overblown budgets and unfair
agreements, instead focusing on hard work and appropriate
partnerships.
Cycle Of Pain will release late spring 2008. For more information

-Disturbed To Sweden Rock Festival
Sweden Rock Festival
4-5-6-7 June 2008
Solvesborg, Sweden
Now we can present another three bands confirmed to play Sweden Rock
Festival 2008. First out is Chicago based Disturbed who will deliever
a heavy show and hopefully play som songs from their new album
INDESTRUCTIBLE due to release in May. Finnish glam heroes Hanoi Rocks
are back after the success in 2002. Then we finally present Australian
Airbourne that has taken the world by storm with their AC/DC oozing
rock!
Read more on our homepage!
DISTURBED (US)
American band Disturbed was formed in 1996 and made their debut four
years later with THE SICKNESS (which has now sold in the excess of 3.4
million copies). The debut was followed by BELIEVE, which has reached
platinum status in the U.S., and in 2005 TEN THOUSAND FISTS saw the
light of day. The latter contains a crushing cover of Genesis' "Land
Of Confusion." Already early on Disturbed was part of the Ozzfest
lineup and became main support for Black Sabbath. Heavy and
aggressive, but still with a melodic feel, is one way to descrive the
sound of Disturbed. The band's new album INDESTRUCTIBLE will hit the
stores in May, in good time for their visit at Sweden Rock Festival.
HANOI ROCKS (FIN)
After a handful of strong releases in the early '80s, the Finnish band
Hanoi Rocks seemed to be heading for their big break. Press and rock
fans alike loved their highly original, hard rock 'n' roll and the
band had just signed with the major label CBS. But then, drummer
Razzle was killed in an accident following an unfortunate car ride
with Mötley Crüe singer Vince Neil and Hanoi Rocks' career met an
untimely end. The quintet's impact on rock history was still immense.
For instance, Guns N' Roses confessed to having borrowed their entire
concept from the Finns. Just after the turn of the millennium, central
figures Michael Monroe and Andy McCoy reformed Hanoi Rocks. Since
then, the group has released three studio albums that are even better
than their '80s outings while quickly regaining their reputation as an
astonishing live act. Their current lineup includes Conny Bloom,
former front man with legendary Swedish band Electric Boys.
AIRBOURNE (AUS)
NWoAHR -- New Wave of Australian Hard Rock -- a term to remember! The
country down under has put new life into world of rock 'n' roll. When
AC/DC are absent it's time for the young and hungry to take over.
Wolfmother, Jet and now Airbourne. The band's internation debut
RUNNING WILD (following the self-financed READY TO ROCK) is a fresh
example of straight ahead, no nonsense, uncomplicated and highly
energetic hard rock. The band's music is also found on video games
such as "Madden 08," "NHL 08," "Need For Speed" and "Grand Theft Auto
IV." The band's code of honour is "Stand up for rock 'n' roll" --
something they of course stand up for themselves!

-Jethro Tull Update
Niki Chopra Richardson, the event planner for Jethro Tull's Thousand
Oaks, CA show at the Alliance for the Arts, worked to have Ian
Anderson autograph a flute that would be auctioned off for the venue's
charity.
When she showed up at soundcheck for Ian's autograph, he asked to meet
her. They spoke about her life growing up in India, a country Ian
truly enjoys. He asked her questions about Mikhail Gorbachev, another
person who had appeared at the venue (Ian is very interested in
Russian politics).
Then Niki asked if he could announce on stage that the flute was up
for bids. Ian said, "Let's dramatize the flute to the audience, why
don't you come on stage at a certain point, and I'll play it for
everyone. Then you'll bring it off stage, because I don't have a
holder for it."
Ian increased both the charitable and entertainment value of an
auctionable item by making the flute a piece of the show, encouraging
the audience to get involved with the venue's charity.
Jethro Tull will be touring all over the world for its 40th
Anniversary this year. The group will be in the States with mainly
east and west coast dates this August. Please check for updates at
http://www.jethrotull.com/ for shows.
The two new members of Tull are bassist David Goodier and
keyboardist/accordionist John O'Hara, who were interviewed for
"Psychobabble TV" by Mike Preston. The interview is on
http://www.youtube.com/anneleighton -- David and John offer strong
insight on career survival as musicians. There's a wonderful quote in
the interview from David about the importance of making music as
opposed to being a pop star.
David also plays on a gorgeous album by Carmina called MY CRESCENT
CITY. Its vibe borrows from traditional folk, chamber music and
Fairport Convention. Hot Press wrote that the group's lead singer
Pippa Marland has a "real autumn leaf of a voice-parched and papery,
but with a gorgeously rich depth of colour." Her Web sites are
http://www.myspace.com/carminamusic and http://www.carmina.co.uk/ .

-Suspyre Announces New Album Title And Track Listing
New Jersey-based progressive metallers Suspyre announced live
Saturday, February 16th the title and track listing of their new
album, WHEN TIME FADES... on the "Metallicious Mania" online radio
show with DJ ProgPowerGrrl. Their new single, "Possession," debuted on
the radio show. To listen to the interview and song you can go to
their MySpace page, http://www.myspace.com/suspyre . Cover art for
WHEN TIME FADES... can be seen at http://www.abstrata.net/suspyre2.jpg
. The album will be released in late Summer 2008.
Track Listing:
1. Possession
2. Evolutions
3. Lighted Endrhyme
4. Maniac Main Point Check
5. Siren
6. Reign
7. Fallen Stars
8. A World With No Measures
9. The Light Of The Fire
10. Apparitions
11. Let Freedom Ring
12. Kirtî Dombulî Kumuda
Gregg Rossetti, main composer, says about the album, "[This album] is
groovier and the songs are diverse. There is less obnoxious double
bass. It is more about colors and sounds and groove, rather than in
your face metal. The guitars are more down tuned and heavier riffs,
rather than epic. The other stuff we've done is more orchestral. There
are orchestral parts to this album; it's just not dominating the
songs. It is there for color rather than being bombastic."
The album was recorded and mixed at Erypsus Studios in Whitehouse
Station, New Jersey. Album artwork was done by Brazilian designer
Gustavo Sazes (Firewind, Nightrage, Mystic Prophecy).
Suspyre released its second album, A GREAT DIVIDE, in March 2007 on
Lance King's (Balance Of Power, Pyramaze) label Nightmare Records, but
due to the buyout of Navarre Distribution by Koch International, the
CD's release date in the U.S.A. was delayed until September 11, 2007.
Suspyre will be releasing a special edition of their first album, THE
SILVERY IMAGE, on March 4, 2008, which will include the bonus track,
"Crimson Shade."

-Metal Queen Management News
Sin Dealer Canadian Music Week Showcase
March 6th, 2008
10:30 p.m.
Rok Boutique - http://www.rokboutiquebar.com/
200 Bathurst Street
TORONTO, ON. -- Sin Dealer, comprised of members of Edwin, Sea Of
Green, Sons Of Otis and Plasma Blast, are a straight-up hard rock band
with a blue collar work ethic and a classic rock atmosphere. They play
windows down, pedal to the metal highway cruising music full of big
riffs and sing along choruses. Rock and roll the way it was meant to
be played: stripped down and raw!
Now, in homage of Queen and Bathurst, the neighbourhood where they
write their tunes and jam, and that saw them play their first gigs in
its clubs, Sin Dealer are using their Canadian Music Week showcase to
aid in the Queen St. W Revival! In lieu of cover, the band, joining
forces with Metal Queen Management and Rok Boutique, encourage
everyone to contribute monetary donations, or clothes, food and other
household items for the 60+ victims who lost everything in last
Wednesday's fire.
If that's not incentive enough to make it out, singer Eric Kuthe and
drummer Jeff Zurba will be celebrating their birthdays! Fresh off
their gig with W.A.S.P. at The Phoenix on February 28, 2008, you know
the guys will be pumped and ready to rock!
"Dealers are purveyors of what you really desire. Pushers, on the
other hand, force you to take what they have. In a music industry
accused of pushing the latest trend and focusing on replicating the
current fad there is at least one band focused on dealing in their own
niche. Sin Dealer are providing real rock fans what they truly desire,
their sophomore opus DYING TO LIVE."
After a yearlong hiatus, Sin Dealer re-emerged last year to record
DYING TO LIVE, the follow-up to 2004's self-titled album, which
diehard fans affectionately dubbed 13. Playing gigs with Prong and
Teenage Head, as well as W.A.S.P. is just the tip of the iceberg for
these guys! Keep an eye out for more big announcements in the coming
weeks!
Sin Dealer hits the stage at 10:30 p.m. Come out and party for a
worthy cause at a wicked bar -- there will be CD and merch giveaways!

*** PRESS RELEASE #20 ***
*
-Deadsee... Stoner Prog Thrash On The Attack
Deadsea formed in 2003 when veteran composer/guitarist/vocalist Adam
Smith decided to fuse his love of metal, doom and free music to create
a trio that would provide "apocalyptic visions for positive
ascendance." He found a perfect foil in longtime friend and bassist
Alex Conley, who had spent six years as guitarist and composer in
bizzaro hardcore band Three Studies For A Crucifixion. This
combination of ideas make up the unique sound of Deadsea: metal
mutation, passion is law, and the rest of the rules are thrown on the
fire. In February 2006, a new and vicious addition, drummer Jeremy
Spears, was brought into the mix. Spears brings the technical
discipline Deadsea's music requires along with an enthusiasm for
testing new boundaries that improvisation allows.
In May 2005, DESIDERATA was released on indie label Chrome Leaf
Records (Melt Banana, Portal, Dead Child), receiving universal acclaim
in the local press despite lengthy songs such as the 22 minute opus
"Salem." By this time the Deadsea live experience had become legendary
in the area. Their epic versatility led audiences through extended
noise freak-outs, all synthesizer sets and unrelenting doom
punishment. People were leaving shows with mouths agape and national
acts were scared of their powers.
Now available is the band's latest venture; the self-titled release on
Chrome Leaf Records. Extensive touring in 2008 is already being mapped
out. Deadsea are label shopping their newest opus in hopes of
garnering interest to a larger audience.

04/05/2008 Ruby's - Columbus, OH w/ Beast, Nihlitia
04/18/2008 Ruby Tuesday - Columbus, OH w/ Dead Child, Sword Heaven
"Deadsea stirs in the NWOBHM and a host of other ingredients like
hardcore, jazz improv, Sabbath, Venom, Carcass, Vitus, 21st century
black metal, and most of all thrash... behold a black vision rising
like an immense decaying fetus from the swamp of your subconscious." -

"Whatever you call these Columbus, Ohio spawned bitches; they are
simply very talented and original... Indie or not, this is an early

by Tim Wadzinski (tsw512@...)
-I caught part of "American Idol" the other night where the "rocker
chick" Amanda Overmyer sang a hideously abbreviated version of Kansas'
classic "Carry On Wayward Son." While watching/listening to it I
noticed a few things: 1) That girl had a seriously freaked-out look
going with her friggin' *giant* blonde-and-black-streaked hair, 2) you
really need to hear all the instrumental sections in that song to
fully enjoy it, and 3) I can't hear that tune anymore without thinking
of Yngwie's simply shred-tastic version on his 1996 all-covers disc
INSPIRATION (featuring Jeff Scott Soto on vocals).
-Speaking of Yngwie, I'm not sure how I feel yet about the Tim
"Ripper" Owens news. I was enthusiastic when he joined Priest, and
later Iced Earth -- and I really like his solo band Beyond Fear's disc
-- but overall I'm just not super-excited about Owens anymore. He
seems like a nice guy with all the talent in the world, but lately
whenever I listen to his non-Beyond Fear stuff (including the old
Winters Bane album) I get that "ehh..." feeling. I think he's just
underused in all these other bands. Let's hope that changes with
Yngwie's band, but I doubt it.
-Check out the Fireworks magazine interviews with W.A.S.P.'s Blackie
Lawless and Danger Danger's Ted Poley at the link mentioned above,
http://www.rathole.com/fireworks . Blackie's has some interesting
tidbits about his connection to "Terminator 2: Judgement Day" and
Poley's has some classic, and candid, bits about his work with DD.
-Winger played last night at the Chicago House Of Blues. Two days ago
a guy at work stumbled onto a pair of free tickets and gave them to
me. I couldn't find anyone to join me, and believe me I tried. I
didn't want to go to the show alone, so I resorted to giving them away
-- and *that* even turned out to be a chore. Sad.
-Finally, man did that Carl Sagan thing in the Lion Music press
release cramp up my brain...
-Now in my current playlist: Steve Stevens - MEMORY CRASH (Magna
Carta), Atrocity - WERK 80 II (Napalm Records), Errorhead - MODERN
HIPPIE (Lion Music), Imperia - QUEEN OF LIGHT (Locomotive Records),
S.E.X. Department - s/t (Perris Records), Winger - PULL (Atlantic).

ANNIHILATOR - METAL (B+) SPV USA, 2008

I've read some reviews online that kinda slag this disc -- which was
released last year and is now out in the U.S. thanks to SPV USA -- but
I don't get them at all. Yes there are some "departure" moments on
METAL but overall it fits nicely with the band's remarkably consistent
catalog (excluding the techno-buzzy REMAINS from '97, of course!). The
big news with this album is the sheer number of guest guitarists and
vocalists employed by Jeff Waters and crew -- *EVERY* song (including
the Japanese-only bonus track, a cover of Exciter's "Heavy Metal
Maniac") has at least one guest star on it. Some are old school (Lips
from Anvil on "Army Of One," Jeff Loomis from Nevermore on "Clown
Parade") and some are new school (Corey Beaulieu from Trivium on
"Kicked," Willie Adler from Lamb Of God on "Chasing The High") and the
intent is to show the depth and breadth of Annihilator's influence on
metal the last 20+ years. Dave Padden does the majority of the
singing, which also features one Waters lead ("Operation
Annihilation") and guest spots from Danko Jones and Arch Enemy's
Angela Gossow (on "Couple Suicide," the disc's biggest departure track
as it features reggae breakdowns and Gossow's death metal grrrowls),
and he's got a perfect voice for the band. Throughout, the guitars are
typically razor-sharp and precise -- exactly what we've come to expect
from Annihilator -- and there's a fair amount of groove, chug, and
melody. There are also a few nice extended solos, the highlight of
which has to be Waters' wicked duel with Arch Enemy's Michael Amott in
"Operation Annihilation." The fun factor is raised in "Army Of One,"
whose lyrics pay homage to the old school metal bands that are still
slugging it out today -- Priest, Maiden, Motorhead, Anthrax, Black
Sabbath, etc. (The latter band also gets a major reference/nod in
"Detonation," which begins with a short Mike Mangini drum solo and
turns into "Children Of The Grave, Pt. II" for a while.) Pick this up
if you've ever been a fan of Annihilator or classic metal, as you will
not be disappointed.

CIRCUS MAXIMUS - ISOLATE (A) Sensory Records, 2007

ISOLATE is another album that I was woefully late getting into, but
let me tell you -- better late than never when what's on offer is this
good, Circus Maximus proving conclusively that THE 1ST CHAPTER was no
fluke. Explosive opener "A Darkened Mind" lets you know straightaway
you're in for something special, with production, songwriting,
musicianship and dynamics all working together perfectly to deliver a
quite awesome aural experience. Circus Maximus know exactly how to
fuse their Kamelot/Queensryche influences with Dream Theater techncal
wow to keep listener interest, whether enchanting with strikingly
melodic songs like "Wither," astonishing with the polished
pyrotechnics of instrumental "Sane No More" (featuring a guitar solo
that could make Petrucci envious), stirring with the sensitive ballad
"Zero" or fascinating with the intelligent lyrical content of "From
Childhood's Hour...," these guys seem to be able to do it all. No need
to single any particular member out for praise as everyone here is so
distinguished, each performing their role impeccably. I mentioned the
production earlier and it's worth acknowledging again, the mix by
veteran Tommy Hansen simply exquisite. If you are already a fan of
Circus Maximus I'm sure you've had this for months, but if you have
yet to savor the music of this outstanding outfit I recommend you do
so immediately; my only regret is that I didn't have this one on my
list of the best albums of 2007, as it surely deserves a place near
the top! Required.

MICHAEL HARRIS - EGO DECIMATION PROFILE (REISSUE) (B+) Lion Music,

Virtuoso guitarist Michael Harris gives the re-mix, re-master and
repackage trifecta to his 1996 album EGO DECIMATION PROFILE and it's a
fun ride of high-powered instrumentals brimming with driving rhythms,
crafty compositions and of course, tasty picking. Michael had a crack
team of session musicians with him for this outing, including no less
than four (!) drummers, namely Keith Carlock, Rob Stankiewicz, Matt
Thompson and Clint Barlow, along with bassist David Harbour
(Chastain), and everyone's performance is punchy and clear in the mix.
Michael really excels at writing noble themes such as found on the
engaging "Stratus-Fear," "Grandscape" and "Terminus Epic," but is
equally adept at throwing in a variety of styles, from the basic power
metal sound of "Vicious Uppercut" to the funky fusion of "Julius
Seizure" and the prog bombast of "Hair On The E String." I think
Michael was still finding his voice at this point, as EGO DECIMATION
PROFILE lacks a bit of the focus and sophistication of later efforts
like SKETCHES FROM THE THOUGHT CHAMBER and ORCHESTRATE, but the album
has an early charm about it that should find it a home in many a
guitar enthusiast's collection.

LION'S SHARE - EMOTIONAL COMA (B) Locomotive Records, 2008

Main man/guitarist Lars Chriss is back with a revamped lineup and
sound on Lion's Share's latest, EMOTIONAL COMA. The disc was released
last year on AFM, is now out in North America on Locomotive, and
boasts a trio guest stars: Glen Drover (Megadeth, Eidolon) and Bruce
Kulick (Kiss, Union, Grand Funk Railroad) contribute guitar solos, and
Mats Leven (Yngwie Malmsteen) sings backing vocals. The band also now
sports a powerhouse vocalist, Patrik Johansson (Astral Doors,
Wuthering Heights), who gets compared to Ronnie James Dio and Tony
Martin in the press kit -- although I also hear some of Lou Falco's
(Wicked Maraya) menace and maybe even a little of Leon Goewie's
(Stonewashed, Way Of Thorns) snarly rasp in there as well. Whatever
you label it, it's a great metal voice! EMOTIONAL COMA's music and
lyrics are heavier than the band's previous efforts, with a sound
that's definitely heavy metal and recalling bands such as Megadeth
("Cult Of Denial," "Toxication Rave"), classic Judas Priest
("Soultaker"), Wicked Maraya (the title track, "Trafficking,"
"Hatred's My Fuel"), and Dio-era Sabbath ("Bloodstained Soil").
Overall the album is quite strong but I kept waiting for one of those
"special moments" to leap out and certify the disc as a classic...but
it didn't quite happen. Solid though, definitely solid.

LIZZY BORDEN - APPOINTMENT WITH DEATH (A) Metal Blade Records, 2007
11 tracks, RT: 54:33
In our year-end special a few weeks ago I ranked this my #8 album of
2007, but that was with the caveat that I hadn't had time to fully
digest it. I must now say this: It's definitely higher in the list!
APPOINTMENT WITH DEATH is a classic metal album and it smokes! I don't
mean it's balls-out speedy the whole way through -- although songs
like "Bloody Tears," "Tomorrow Never Comes," and the title track
certainly fit that bill -- but rather as an *album* this thing is a
monster. The cliche "all killer, no filler" certainly applies, and the
whole package is certainly in place: excellent, vibrant production,
vibe, killer artwork and presentation, and strong metal songs with
flash and substance. And don't forget the seamlessly integrated,
expert guest guitar spots from George Lynch, Dave Meniketti, Jonas
Hansson (Silver Mountain), Corey Beaulieu (Trivium), and others. This
is the kind of album where the band could pull an Iron Maiden and play
the whole thing live, and nobody would object. With superb quality
like this it's a shame new Lizzy records are so few and far between
these days, but given what's befallen the band the last decade (R.I.P.
Alex Nelson) you certainly can't blame anyone. Let's hope the future
is brighter for the guys.

METALLIMANIA (DVD) (A) Killing Time Productions, 2007
RT: 1:52:23
If you've ever seen or heard about the infamous cult film "Heavy Metal
Parking Lot" then you know what this thing's all about -- it's a
"documentary" on Metallica fans, filmed during the band's early '90s
summer tour with Suicidal Tendencies and Fight, that goes a long way
towards proving heavy metal is indeed bad for your brain. :) It was
originally released on VHS in 1996, and was then reissued on DVD in
the U.K. in 2005; it's now available in North America on DVD. The
filmmaker/narrator/interviewer, Eric Braverman, is (was?) connected to
Metallica, and there are several segments with him talking to the band
members (in one, he actually survives an encounter with James Hetfield
after kinda ripping on the legendary front man's mullet!) but the film
wisely focuses on the fan interviews. Braverman knows his stuff and
possesses a razor-sharp wit, and he has tons and TONS of fun playing
with the beer, drug, and who-knows-what addled minds of these 'tallica
faithful. In Braverman's hands, even a simple question like "What's
your favorite Metallica song?" can quickly turn into a hilarious
exchange that leaves you either scratching your head and smiling, or
thinking, "I knew a dude like that!" A few of the funniest/sorriest
fans get extended segments -- the young kid who speaks of mushrooms
and "dosing" is my favorite -- and there are heaps of short bits as
well, and everything is funny. Everything. Except for the scary dudes,
of course, like the guy with the gun and the on-edge racists... It's
all very compelling. Other highlights include some spirited Megadeth
bashing, a confrontation with a bootleg T-shirt seller, a recurring
bit where Braverman asks fans for their thoughts on "the Rwanda
situation," and brief segments with music luminaries like Rob Halford,
Scott Ian, Tom Araya, Jim Martin, Metal Blade Records honcho Brian
Slagel, and...Madonna. Yes, Madonna. The onscreen text graphics, while
extremely dated and primitive looking by today's standards, are pretty
witty as well. (Look for "Don Dokken." Trust me.) And as a final bonus
the closing credits include a full version of Halford joining
Metallica on stage for a cover of Judas Priest's "Rapid Fire." DVD
bonus features include trailers for this film and a similarly-themed
one on Michael Jordan fans, entitled "Airmania." Get this now.
