-Judas Priest Only Days Away From Officially Unveiling NOSTRADAMUS
The buzz is undeniably growing louder as the world is now only mere
days away from the highly anticipated arrival of Judas Priest's double
disc concept album, NOSTRADAMUS.
And for fans that cannot wait until its official release next Tuesday,
June 17th, the good folks at Headbanger's Blog on MTV.com have
provided some much-needed relief, in the form of "the Leak" -- by
launching streams of all 23 tracks of the album.
Additionally, the eye-popping video for the album's leadoff single,
"War," will be premiered on Headbanger's Blog, and will premiere on
television on MTV 2's "Headbanger's Ball."
And if that's not enough for ya, there will be interview clips with
the band launching today on Headbanger's Blog (and will reappear on
"Headbanger's Ball" on Saturday, which starts at 11 p.m.), while there
is a Rob Halford podcast now available on Headbanger's Blog, as well.
Long in the works, NOSTRADAMUS was recorded in the U.K., and takes
epic storytelling to a whole new level, as it recounts the life of
this mysterious, world-known 16th century French prophet.
Some of the events that Nostradamus experts have interpreted as some
of his predictions include the great fire of London in 1666, the rise
of Adolf Hitler, and most recently, 9-11, among countless other
renowned events.

-Evergrey Has Signed With Steamhammer/SPV
New Album TORN Out In Early September
Following intense and very constructive discussions, Steamhammer/SPV
have announced their future collaboration with Swedish dark melodic
metal act, Evergrey. The deal includes not only the group's brand-new
studio album, TORN, which will arrive at the stores at the beginning
of September, but also Evergrey's complete back catalogue. SPV Head of
Labels, Ulrike Rudolph says: "We are all happy to welcome Evergrey to
the SPV/Steamhammer Family, and are looking forward to a great future
together." Evergrey mastermind Tom S. Englund is also looking forward
to a productive cooperation with Steamhammer, explaining: "After long
and intense negotiations, we feel that we have arrived at optimum
conditions for everybody involved. We are confident that Evergrey will
continue to grow artistically under the terms of this contract, that
SPV will enjoy our cooperation and -- this is definitely the most
important aspect -- that our fans will thoroughly benefit from the new
deal."
The first stage of this ambitious target will see the release of
Evergrey's new studio album, TORN, at the beginning of September,
featuring 11 compositions, described by Englund as a "modern mix of IN
SEARCH OF TRUTH and RECREATION DAY. The tracks are all guitar-oriented
and very atmospheric. They have exactly the sound that our fans expect
from us." According to Englund, the slightly more experimental
direction of Evergrey's previous release, MONDAY MORNING APOCALYPSE,
has given way again to old strengths and virtues. "Two years ago we
needed an album with a slightly different approach and an expensive
producer, just to find out how that sort of thing works. It was the
right album at the time, but now we have returned to our typical
trademarks." This is one of the reasons why the tracks on TORN were
self-produced by Englund together with drummer Jonas Ekdahl. In
addition, the band has a new bassist, Fredrik Larsson having been
replaced by former Stratovarius musician Jari Kainulainen.
Since the band arrived on the scene in 1998, Evergrey have brought out
six studio albums and one live cut. All of them made the top 20 in
their native Sweden and the last two made the top 10 (no. 6 and 3,
respectively). On top of that, their DVD was number 1 for four weeks
and nominated for a Grammy in Sweden. The band has toured around the
globe several times, together with In Flames, Nevermore, Throwdown,
Arch Enemy, Children Of Bodom and Iced Earth, among others. Along with
TORN, their new contract with Steamhammer/SPV includes the band's
complete back catalogue, so top-quality reissues featuring a selection
of bonus tracks are likely in future. "There is so much additional
material for each album that we could theoretically re-release it on
an extra DVD. Whatever we manage to do -- premium reissues are
certainly a possibility."

chart debut, received the ultimate accolade in today's competitive

2006's enormously popular "Guitar Hero II," which has sold more than 3
million copies to date. The song's magnetism has delivered a new
generation of fans for Kansas -- who have sold more than 20 million
albums in the U.S. during their career, continue to tour around the

"Carry On Wayward Son" now takes its place as one of the band's
signature tracks on TWO FOR THE SHOW: 30TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION, which
restores the full-length original two-LP concert album of 1978 for the
first time in the digital era. The new double-CD edition is expanded
with a second disc including 10 previously unreleased live tracks from
the same 1977-78 tour grid that provided the tracks for the original
live album.
Thirty years later, TWO FOR THE SHOW: 30TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION will
arrive in stores July 1st on Kirshner/Epic/Legacy, a division of Sony
BMG Music Entertainment. The double-CD package will be housed in a
beautifully designed, environmentally friendly, plastic-free soft
pack, containing a 24-page full-color booklet with many unseen
photographs, and a new liner notes essay written by Jeb Wright.
"Looking back," Wright reflects, "it is hard to believe that these six
long-haired, rough and tumble Midwesterners took only a few years to
go from playing local bars to selling out Madison Square Garden... but
that is exactly what happened." Wright, a native of Topeka, Kansas --
the band's hometown -- is the owner/editor of Classic Rock Revisited
online music magazine, which can be found at

Wright also points out the story behind the album cover graphic -- the
familiar rendering of the two cleaning ladies seated in the empty red
velvet orchestra seats after a show, their mops in view, perusing the
Kansas playbill. It was based on a Norman Rockwell painting titled
"The Charwomen" that originally appeared on the cover of The Saturday
Evening Post of April 6, 1946. The 1978 version went on to win an
award from the Norman Rockwell Foundation. Today it serves as the
homepage of the band's Web site, with the red curtained stage serving
as the backdrop for the site views.
After five RIAA gold, platinum and multi-platinum LPs, the original
release of TWO FOR THE SHOW was welcomed in November 1978 by fans of
Kansas, a band whose career has always been based on their reputation
as live performers. The double-album chronicled their mammoth tours of
1977-78, which built on the breakthrough success of their consecutive
Top 5 LPs LEFTOVERTURE (1976, with "Carry On Wayward Son") and POINT
OF KNOW RETURN (1977, with "Point Of Know Return" and "Dust In The
Wind").
To the delight of Kansas completists around the world, TWO FOR THE
SHOW will finally restore the live version of "Closet Chronicles" to
the playlist (on disc two). This rarity was first heard on the POINT
OF KNOW RETURN album, and as the B-side of the "Point Of Know Return"
single. When the first-generation CD of TWO FOR THE SHOW was issued in
1989, "Closet Chronicles" (which preceded "Magnum Opus" as the next-
to-last track on the double-LP) was cut for length reasons.
The live version of "Closet Chronicles" anchors CD two on the new
package, whose 10 other live tracks gathered from the 1977-78 tours
are previously unreleased. Among them is the closing track, the cover
of J.J. Cale's "Bring It Back," which Kansas picked up from Cale's
debut LP of 1971, NATURALLY. The band recorded it (as "Bringing It
Back") on their own self-titled debut album of 1974, KANSAS, on the
Kirshner label, distributed by Epic Associated Labels. It remained
their only non-Kansas composition recorded during their entire first
decade 1974-83, and their nine studio LPs on Kirshner (before moving
to MCA in 1986, when they began to record "outside" material).
The original classic lineup of Kansas -- lead singer and keyboardist
Steve Walsh, guitarist Kerry Livgren, guitarist Rich Williams,
violinist and singer Robby Steinhardt, bassist Dave Hope, and drummer
Phil Ehart -- remained intact for that first decade, before taking a
well-earned three year sabbatical from October 1983 to late 1986.
By the time they regrouped in '86, Livgren had gone on to a solo
career as a Christian music artist (with Hope), Steinhardt had left,
and the core of Walsh, Williams, and Ehart brought in guitarist (and
occasional violinist) Steve Morse from Dixie Dregs, and bassist Billy
Greer. On occasion, Livgren (who is now a farmer) and Steinhardt have
rejoined, and Morse was replaced by David Ragsdale on violin and
guitar. The current touring lineup stars Ehart, Greer, Ragsdale,
Walsh, and Williams.
Expanded editions of LEFTOVERTURE and 1975's MASQUE, both with bonus
tracks and liner notes written by David Wild, were issued by Legacy in
May 2001. The next year, an expanded edition of POINT OF KNOW RETURN
(with two bonus tracks, and liner notes again written by David Wild)
was issued by Legacy in February 2002. Most recently, expanded
editions of 1974's KANSAS and SONG FOR AMERICA (both with bonus tracks
and new liner notes) were issued in June 2004.
In July 2004, the two-CD box set SAIL ON was issued. The deluxe three-
disc package contains two CDs and a full-length bonus DVD -- the first
box set ever to expand upon their seminal megaplatinum hitmaking
decade at Epic Records with nearly two decades' more material from
five of the band's subsequent record labels, covering the years
1986-2000.
2009 will officially mark the 35th anniversary of Kansas and the
release of their debut album in 1974.
The album, Wright concludes, "is a testament to a great band at the
top of their game. A large majority of the track listing is still
found in the band's set list today, proving their music remains both
majestic and timeless... This album is a true testament to their
abilities. So, the time has come for me to Welcome you to Kansas and
invite you to sit back, crank up the volume, and enjoy TWO FOR THE
SHOW."

FIRST TOUCH is the beginning of John Jeff Touch's solo career. The
album is a collection of melodic / experimental rock numbers with
impressive vocals and solos; combined with a unique atmosphere where
the arrangements transcend the listener into another place. Each song
has its own colour and mood and is a different part of John Jeff Touch
and his life. The other musicians of the album are some of the finest
of Europe. They added their own colour and the most suitable for this
album.
John Jeff Touch is one of the most promising singers of Europe.
Expressiveness, wide vocal range and a big variety of sound colours
characterise his singing. John's taken part in three European vocal
contests where he's been awarded with many prizes. In 2004 he worked
with Lars Eric Mattsson and his band Vision for the album ON THE EDGE
(Lion Music); and in the following years has worked with many
musicians in Europe including S.I.N., Cosmicray (album LOVE IS
released on Plus REC/Universal 2007) and many others. One of the most
important moments of his life was when he met the guitarist Sotiris
Gogo. Jeff calls him "one of the most talented guitarists in Europe."
They pair then started working together and Sotiris' guitar work can

The last few years have seen John composing and arranging his own
material which is now released as FIRST TOUCH. A collection of
memories from John's life was the inspiration and is now released for
the first time.

The Jennifer Batten's Tribal Rage - MOMENTUM CD was a labour of love
which was developed over a period of several years. MOMENTUM is a
hybrid of rock and very exotic sounds, including African percussion,
Australian didgeridoo, Caribbean steel drums and Scottish bag pipes
all wrapped up in a inviting album of diverse influences and sounds.
Looking back on the album's creation Jennifer comments, "Glen Sobel,
Ricky Wolking and I set out to make this a rich sonic journey for
ourselves and the listener. We wanted to take them around the globe
and included a lot of elements from different cultures. We spent a lot
of hours developing, rehearsing and jamming in Glen's mother's shoe
closet. You couldn't fit more than the three of us and our equipment
in there, but the price was right. We set out to be as open minded and
creative as possible."
Background Info:
Shortly after the release of Jennifer's debut ABOVE, BELOW & BEYOND in
the spring of '92, she was asked again to join Michael Jackson for his
upcoming "Dangerous Tour." In January '93, she joined Jackson to
partake in Super Bowl XXVII's half time entertainment which aired to
one and half billion people in 80 nations. It was the largest audience
in television history. She completed her second solo record Jennifer
Batten's Tribal Rage - MOMENTUM just before she was again asked to
join Jackson for his two-year world tour supporting his double album
HISTORY in 1997. Jennifer's Tribal Rage project took a much different
direction than her first record and is heavily influenced by world
music. In the spring of '98 Jeff Beck asked Jennifer to join his band.
They joined forces for three years on the CDs WHO ELSE and YOU HAD IT
COMING which were both supported by world tours.

-Gypsy Rose Replaces Bangalore Choir At Rocklahoma
Nightmare Records, Blastzone Entertainment & Chavis Records are proud
to bring you the Tri-Label Stage / 2nd Stage South!
Due to serious family medical complications with some members of
Bangalore Choir, the band has been forced to cancel. David Reece will
still perform with his Swedish rock band Gypsy Rose.
Lance King of Nightmare Records got word that David was coming out of
retirement and contacted his management about playing on their Tri-
Label Stage at this year's Rocklahoma. Originally David was working to
bring his old band Bangalore Choir back to life, but that was not yet
meant to be. It must be the year of the Gypsy.
Presenting Swedish Rockers Gypsy Rose Featuring David Reece on Vocals
David now will play with Gypsy Rose at this year's Rocklahoma on our
Tri-Label stage (2nd Stage South). With somewhat of a jaded career
under their belts since their formation back in 1981. The band signed
a deal in 1984 that never saw light of day and then again in 1989 the
band hit another brick wall, and so the name of Gypsy Rose was
destined to be washed away in the annals of music history. That was
until 2004 when the band decided give it one more try, and finally the
band's self-titled debut release saw the light of day and received
some favorable reviews. It's now 2008 and the band is back and this
time the band means business, as they have enlisted the vocal talents
of David Reece (ex-Accept / Bangalore Choir) fame to put his vast
vocals to the Swedes' Melodic Masterpiece. After several years under
the radar on a ranch in Montana, lead vocalist David Reece was
contacted by Escape Records in 2007 to see what the chances would be
for him to go to Sweden to sing on Swedish band Gypsy Rose's next
release. Soon after that David found himself in the studio for the
next year recording and writing for the new Gypsy Rose CD ANOTHER
WORLD to be released worldwide June 20th, 2008.
With the opening track "Final Call" on the new release setting the
standard for the rest of the album, with its crunching guitar sound
and Reece's powerful melodic tones that communicate the whole Gypsy
Rose sound to life. Reece really shows what a talent he is as he
brings his full range to the brilliant song "Nothing Really Matters,"
with Martin Kronlund's sterling guitar work unifying with Reece to
produce one of the best tracks of the album. Kronlund's production is
second to none and he has not only brought out the best in the band's
sound, but also the best in Reece who is just remarkable throughout.
Reece again showing us what we've been missing with another great
vocal performance. Kronlund has found a winning formula and long may
it continue. Set to hit the stage on July 13th 2008, in Pryor,
Oklahoma on the 2nd Stage South, Reece is BACK more powerful then
ever. David's voice prowess has added a new melodic dimension to the
sound and his feats are matched by the peerless instrumental
performances of the founding members.

Heave was formed in 1994 by drummer Patrik Nikolic, and soon became a
familiar act among the Stockholm night clubbers and concertgoers. In
those early days, the band discovered the straight and simple
philosophy, which has kept Heave's music popular among Stockholm

During these years Heave released the albums BEGUILE, SELF
DESTRUCTION, LIES, TIME 2002 and FEARS COME ALIVE. Heave toured with

aforementioned artists. However, Dive offers so much more and has huge

Jon Sitar has an excellent voice that is very powerful with an

-Nightmare Records Signs Finnish Band Memoira To Worldwide Deal
Ladies and Gentlemen of the Metal world,
We are proud to announce the signing of a new metal force Memoira, a
young female fronted Finnish band playing what we would call "epic
melancholic metal that has progressive and gothic orchestral parts."
Carrying on in the fashon of bands such as Nightwish, Epica, Kamelot,
Within Temptation, Evanescence, Lacuna Coil.
Memoira is known for its strong melancholic melodies and heavy guitar
walls, and began its journey in the beginning of 2007, originally
formed by the two guitarists Jani Haanpδδ and Marko Heurlin in 2001.
They gathered together a group of various musicians who had played in
different bands. Memoira went to studio to work on first album in the
end of 2007 and in the beginning of 2008 started to work with Lance
King (known for best for his work as vocalist of Balance Of Power,
Pyramaze and most recently of Avian & Krucible) as an executive
producer naturally leading to their new full-length debut self-titled
release with Lance's label Nightmare Records.

RC2 was formed in Caracas, Venezuela (South America) during 1999 as a
result of two events: the guts and heart to play the style of music
that always ruled the soul of the band members, and Radio Clip's
dissolution. Radio Clip was an emblematic band that released four
albums in Venezuela between 1988 and 1994, selling thousands of albums
and concerts across the country.
After a number of changes in personnel and geographic location (now
located in Spain), the band was able to write and record new material
and even managed to open for Dream Theater to a huge audience and was
a resounding success.

Odin's Court is a Maryland, U.S.A., band that was initially formed by
Matt Brookins in 2001. For the first two years the band struggled to
find their sound, playing covers and originals ranging from classic
rock to modern metal and everything in between. Over the years they
honed their sound and live show, opening for such notables as Symphony
X, Spock's Beard, King's X, Kamelot, Enchant and more. They opened for
Circa on May 2, 2008 in Springfield, Virginia.
DEATHANITY displays why Odin's Court is difficult to fit into a genre;
ambience, dynamics, and soul are combined with complexity, groove, and
energy in a song oriented structure, to create a unique, surreal
landscape. Including a configuration similar to that of the classic
Pink Floyd album DARK SIDE OF THE MOON, DEATHANITY utilizes saxophone
and backing female vocalists, and includes a palate scattered with
spoken vocal clips and vast ranging sound effects. Special guest

By definition REQUIEM is prayer for the salvation of the soul(s) of
the departed, REQUIEM is also the title of various musical
compositions used in such liturgical services. In the case of John 5,
REQUIEM is a mind-blowing, sinister guitar instrumental with song
titles named after torture devices. "I find the macabre fascinating,
it's all over history. In researching the torture devices I heard
music to describe each one," explains John 5.
John 5 performs all instruments with the exception of the time-keeping
by Zombie band mate Tommy Clufetos (drums). The album was recorded in
the middle of night that lent a cool vibe and only time John 5 had
studio times. Most of the songs are 1213 minutes long so John 5
decided to put in markers to divide them up so when songs change from
track to track it seems to meld in to each other.

North Carolina was never thought of as the "hot bed" of melodic hard
rock in the late '80s and early '90s. But looking back to 1991 Dimage

make it and when the equipment failed on us, there was nothing more

Rocket Scientists' core members Erik Norlander, Mark McCrite and Don
Schiff will appear in concert along with select guest musicians
including symphonic rock diva Lana Lane and guitarist Jim Williams.
This concert follows on the heels of three very successful shows in
Mexico, Cleveland, and the U.K.; and the recent release of Rocket
Scientists' ambitious five-disc multimedia box set LOOKING BACKWARD
through Think Tank Media and ProgRock Records.
Rocket Scientists was formed in the late 1980s by keyboardist Erik
Norlander and vocalist / guitarist Mark McCrite. The two released
their first CD, EARTHBOUND, in 1993 joined by then-session bassist Don
Schiff. Schiff quickly became a part of the band for their second
release in 1995, BRUTAL ARCHITECTURE, and the three toured in the U.S.
and Europe in 1997 culminating in the live CD, EARTH BELOW AND SKY
ABOVE: LIVE IN EUROPE AND AMERICA. In 1999, Rocket Scientists released
OBLIVION DAYS, raising the bar on already high expectations. At the
turn of the century, Norlander, Schiff and McCrite all worked on solo
projects in addition to backing symphonic rock vocal icon Lana Lane on
several tours around the world. After an eight year hiatus, Rocket
Scientists released its fourth studio album REVOLUTION ROAD in 2006 to
high accolades from the press and fans worldwide.
In January, 2008, Rocket Scientists released their first box set
entitled LOOKING BACKWARD, a five-disc collection containing re-
mastered versions of their first three studio albums, EARTHBOUND,
BRUTAL ARCHITECTURE and OBLIVION DAYS, along with a fourth audio CD of
new recordings of classic Rocket Scientists songs reinterpreted by the
band in 2007. The fifth disc is a DVD-9 containing video of the 2007
sessions along with extensive interviews and historical archive

of other musical communities will be invited to submit their music,

Top 10, that will be judged by a panel of musicians, promoters,

The winner of the contest, that will begin May 20th, 2008 and conclude
with a winner on July 26th, 2008 will receive the following:

"The videos were shot at various shows on the U.K. tour. The crowds
were awesome, as every show was a rampage from the moment we started
the set," says frontman Luke Metcalf of the creation of the video. "I
wrote the 'Supercharged' music and some of the lyrics for the song one
day after I got incredibly high and went and lay down on the side of a
hill during an amazing thunder storm in Toronto last summer. For about
two hours I watched hundreds and hundreds of lightning bolts ripping
across the sky above and around me."
Sound And Fury is all about power chords and no-bullsh*t rock 'n roll
-- an all out sonic assault on the ears of their enthusiastic fans.
Founded by frontman Luke Metcalf with the desire to create stripped-
down, straight-up whiskey drinking rock n' roll, the band includes
guitarists Daz and Griffin, ex- Age Of Electric bassist John Kerns,
and drummer Chris Avalos.
In addition to perfectly capturing their raw rock n' roll power on the
album, the group has been gaining fans by the truckload by opening up

There must be something seriously wrong with those crazy Australians.
In a land full of sun, surf and beautiful women, there are a group of
men locked inside house recording the worlds most angry and intensely
fast music!
What are they working on?
In Luke Kenny's own words...
"We are entering the final stages of recording guitar and bass for the
new album, We are still using the trusty Marshall JMP pre amp and NO
cabinets for our guitar tone, choosing to go straight into the M-box.
"People seem to be surprised we haven't changed the process since
WORLD OF LIES. We find it's the most convenient way for us to do it,
record some guitars one day then come back a few days later pick up
where we left off and repeat. I have included a top of the range Imac
to the recording arsenal, but everything else is the same.
"The music once again has gotten even faster! I just can't write slow
music!! The main difference with the writing process this time is we
jammed on the riffs in the rehearsal space. I was actually playing the
drums (Yamaha DTX) in the room with Ed Lacey (Guitars). After we got
down a bunch of great ideas we set about re-recording the guitar and I
programmed pretty much the same beats that I was playing.
"It feels f*cking great to be back behind the kit again. Im slowly
getting my speed back. I haven't played in over 13 years, (excluding
the Nile tour where I had to for a week in 2003).
"The bass has been one of the most enjoyable parts so far, we have
really been exploring lots of different options with regards to adding
chords and harmonies, and it's added a great new element.
"Vocals wise, I have come up with some f*cking killer new rhythms and
some really angry shouting vocal styles, this is without doubt some of
the best stuff I've done to date. Lyrically this has been an amazingly
emotional outlet for me, in both a positive and negative way."
To sum up...
"The spoken word samples are back, the electronics are back, the
Dissimulate drum sound is back, everything's back!! I've spent weeks
going through my sample CDs looking for the right sounds, and I've
finally got them, every thing blends together so well.
"Next we move onto the mixing stage, then it's touring and promo time.
For the fans the video camera has been pulled out to document the
recording, but more on that later."
New Record Label
Luke had this to say...
"We have fulfilled our contract with Earache by releasing four full-
length albums. And have now left the label.
"This has now given us the opportunity to branch out on our own by
creating Berzerker Industries our very own record label. We are
currently in the final stages of recording the latest offering THE
REAWAKENING and putting together the infrastructure for the business.
(I'm actually writing this from my marketing class at university, as
I'm also in the final stages of completing a business course.)
"This is the dawn of a new era for the band as well as a much needed
injection of excitement for actually making music again.
"Berzerker Industries will change to way people buy Berzerker albums,
we will offer a MAIL ORDER ONLY purchase. (Buy online and I will
personally mail you a CD.) The CD will NOT be available in stores.
This is a throwback to an underground era of music sales and I believe
is the future of the music industry, i.e. bands selling direct to
their fans while removing themselves from the bullsh*t of the
industry."

A complete roster of 151 musical artists slated for this year's
S.C.E.N.E. Music Festival -- including dozens of the best and
brightest from the Niagara Region's musical talent pool -- has been

Silverstein, illScarlett, Canadian punk legends Teenage Head and St.
Catharines' Black Lungs -- fronted by Alexisonfire's Wade MacNeil --
are just a few of the 151 performers descending upon St. Catharines'
downtown core for the one-day, all-ages, 13th annual S.C.E.N.E. Music
Festival on Sunday, June 29th, 2008.
The S.C.E.N.E. Web site offers complete information about the

While still having a strong focus on Niagara-based independent acts as
the first modest S.C.E.N.E. Festival did with 20 local acts on three

year's festival attracted over 6,000 music fans and featured 147 bands
on 15 stages in 12 venues and two outdoor stages, all within walking

country, Celtic, independent pop, acoustic and good old rock 'n' roll.

independent music events in North America, the festival received over
400 artist submissions this year from across Canada and the United
States. The S.C.E.N.E. online compilation of more than 40 S.C.E.N.E.
artists on this year's schedule will be given away for free, to the
first 2,500 people through the gate, when the doors open at
S.C.E.N.E.'s Market Square headquarters at noon on the day of the
festival.
Over the last 13 years, the S.C.E.N.E. Music Festival has hosted
numerous independent acts that have risen to the top of the Canadian
music industry, including St. Catharines' own Alexisonfire, City And
Colour, Billy Talent, Neverending White Lights, Bedouin Soundclash and

-Ah, the Summer is upon us again so I thought I would check in for a
few updates. The first order of business is this tantalizing piece of
news directly from Riot main man Mark Reale:
"I'm in the process of working with all the members from the original
1988 lineup and have begun writing material for a new record with
them. Although some members do have prior commitments hopefully the
new record will be release in the late fall of 2008."
So that means the classic THUNDERSTEEL lineup!!! Man, I hope this
works out as that was a killer album; new material and a tour with

-I see Yngwie recently graced the cover of Guitar World's speed issue;

style. I'm glad he listed ECLIPSE as one of his best albums, as I've

Johnasson and keyboardist Michael Troy, Yngwie declares that "It's

-Also, condolences out to the family of original Rush drummer John
Rutsey, who passed away May 11. John played on the debut Rush album
(featuring the now-classic fan favorites "Finding My Way," "In The
Mood," and "Working Man.") It's also interesting that John's older
brother is credited with suggesting the name Rush. John left the band
due to health concerns and a dislike of touring, but he will always be
remembered for his great contributions to the foundation of the band.

-So are you all silly with anticipation for Judas Priest's NOSTRADAMUS
next week? I am. I've heard one early report that the mammoth set is
"kinda boring" but we shall see. I hope to be able to see the band
live this summer, too. The Helsinki set list in "News/Rumors" had some
surprises, for sure -- very cool to see "Living After Midnight" laid
to rest in favor of some other stuff, and to see "Between The Hammer
And The Anvil," "Devil's Child," "Sinner," "Rock Hard, Ride Free," and
"Dissident Aggressor" (!!!) making appearances. Looks like we also get
three tracks from NOSTRADAMUS, but, curiously, neither the excellent
title track nor the first single, "War." I was a little bummed to see
only one token ANGEL OF RETRIBUTION track, the ballad "Angel," and I'd
rather hear something off of RAM IT DOWN than the cartoony "Hell
Patrol" from PAINKILLER. And finally..."Eat Me Alive," for cryin' out
loud?! Wow. I'm all for pulling out the old chestnuts but c'mon,
despite the infamy with its history and the PMRC you have to admit
this was just a filler track on DEFENDERS OF THE FAITH.
-That Timio Tolkki/Revolution Renaissance tidbit up above looks
intriguing. I guess I missed the news about Stratovarius breaking up,
but, truthfully, did anyone really like the s/t from '05, or expect
the reunion to last? It sounds like Mr. Tolkki is heading back to the
halcyon years of the band's sound with this new gig, and it should be
awesome to hear Michael Kiske, Tobias Sammet, and Pasi Rantanen on
this disc.

Late '70s punk, hard rock and heavy metal come together on Canadian
outfit Sound And Fury's debut album, a raucous collection of
swaggering anthems for those who missed those glory days the first
time around, or for those who want to relive them. A potent mix of
AC/DC and The Sex Pistols with a bit of Motorhead thrown in, Sound And
Fury deliver their hybrid mix with conviction and energy on tracks
such as "Teenage Rampage," "Bad Touch," "High School Hotbox," and "The
Stranger," all featuring plenty of headbanging riffs, blasting solos
and infectious rhythms, along with the kind of lyrics extolling the
virtues of sex, drugs and rock n' roll that would make Bon Scott
proud. Make no mistake, this is hard rock designed specifically for
partying, and taken for that purpose does exactly what it's supposed
to -- get your head shakin' and fist pumpin' while putting the fun
back into rock n' roll. Crank it up!

These Germans have been around for a few years and have both worked
and toured with Kai Hansen/Gamma Ray, so it should come as no surprise
that StormWarrior's music is in that power metal vein. What is
somewhat surprising is, to me, how similar Lars Ramcke's voice is to
Hansen's. It's uncanny! It all adds up to HEADING NORTHE coming off
like *extremely* vintage (i.e., pre-Michael Kiske) Helloween but
updated with today's production quality. Lyrically, the disc is all
about Vikings, which isn't hard to discern when track titles include
"Ragnarφk," "And The Horde Calleth For Oden," "Lion Of The Northe,"
and "And The Valkyries Ride." Albums like this keep me loving heavy
metal -- I hadn't heard these guys before but after one spin through
HEADING NORTHE I became a fan, and it's a complete album as opposed to
one or two "focus tracks" propped up by a bunch of filler. (And
there's a bonus video for the title track included.) No, it's not
terribly original (and what's with calling out forebears Running Wild
in the press kit? Sorry guys, I'm not sure you've yet "improved upon
the original premise" of Rock'n'Rolf & Co.) but this disc will satisfy
your hunger for top-notch classic metal.
