-Exodus Have Completed The Re-recording Of Their 1986 Masterpiece
BONDED BY BLOOD
For the troops in the trenches, it began in 1982 with a low generation
copy of a local band's three-song demo. For some, it began with their
first listen to Combat Records' version of BONDED BY BLOOD in 1986.
Regardless of the year Exodus are the undeniable forefathers of thrash
metal.
Exodus gained huge notoriety in the international underground scene as
a result of the tape trading community. Their dynamic guitar riffing,
adrenaline-inducing drum work, and bloodied live shows made all the
difference in the band's mission to take Bay Area Thrash to a
worldwide audience. The immortal, must-have, thrash classic BONDED BY
BLOOD was released in 1985 via Torrid Records (then re-released in
1986 on Combat Records), and inspired the likes of Testament, Death
Angel, Vio-lence and many others. To this day BONDED BY BLOOD is
inspiring a whole new breed of thrash metal. Gary Holt, songwriter and
lead guitarist of Exodus, has released the following statement about
the band's decision to revisit this classic album that began an era in
music history.
"After many years in the planning and discussion stage, we have
finally completed the re-recording of BONDED BY BLOOD. We have decided
to call it LET THERE BE BLOOD and it is our way of paying homage to
[original singer] Paul Baloff by showing how relevant these songs we
had written together still are. We aren't trying to replace the
original, that's impossible anyway. We are just giving these songs the
benefit of modern production. It's something we talked about before
Paul's death and it's always been important to us to do. We were super
excited about entering the studio once again to record these classics,
and now it's back to writing the next studio record!"
Produced by Gary Holt, LET THERE BE BLOOD was recorded at Sharkbite
Studios in Oakland, CA, JKZ Production Studio in San Rafael, CA with
vocal tracks recorded at J. Rod Production Studios in New City, NY.
Andy Sneap is currently mixing the finishing product.
The tentative release date for LET THERE BE BLOOD is October 2008
through Zaentz Records which has U.S. and European distribution.

Black 'N Blue Reunion Charges Ahead With Festival Dates
As previously reported, Black 'N Blue has launched a reunion in 2008
featuring four original members in Jaime St. James (vocals), Jef
"Woop" Warner (guitar), Pete Holmes (drums), and Patrick Young (bass).
The four members are joined by second guitarist, Shawn Sonnenschein,
who has been in the fold since 2003 when the band had played a few
dates. Sonnenschein is the replacement for original guitarist, Thommy
Thayer, who is currently in Kiss.
The band was reactivated earlier this year after St. James' departure
from Warrant. "My four years in Warrant were awesome. I made some
lifetime friends and will always cherish that time in my life. That
being said, it feels so good to sing the great Black 'N Blue tunes
again," St. James says.
The band is scheduled to play this year's Rocklahoma Festival on
Saturday, July 12. In addition, the band has also been added to the
main stage at the Rock The Bayou Festival in Houston on Labor Day
Weekend where they are scheduled to perform on Sunday, August 31.
Further show announcements are expected in the coming weeks. There is
also a plan to tour the U.K. and Europe in early November, with
further information to be announced shortly.
In addition to the shows, Black 'N Blue will also hit the studio in
the coming months to complete the long awaited released, HELL YEAH!
Plans for its release will be announced later this year.
Eden's Nick Workman Gives The Lowdown On OBLIVION
The release of Eden's eagerly awaited album OBLIVION is now nearly
upon us [July 28]. Nick Workman will be chatting with Steve Price of
ARFM ( http://www.arfm.co.uk/ ) on July 12th around 6:15 p.m. GMT so
make sure you tune in.
In addition Nick has also taken the time to explain the album track by
track...
This album is quite different from the first. It's more melodic and
it's heavier, but hasn't lost any of the grooves that we had first
time around. Lyrically it has light and shade. Some tracks have a more
serious "what's going on in the world today" content while others are
just...well...lyrics...about whatever! The important thing for us was
to write and record an album of catchy melodic rock tracks that mixed
up the '70s, '80s and '90s and had a sprinkling of modern rock for
flavour. Just put in the CD, turn the f*cker up and enjoy!
"Oblivion"
I guess with all that's going on around us at the moment, it's hard
not feel the desire to put it into song! This has an Eastern flavour
to it and is very anthemic. We decided to put it as the opening track
as it's such a big song. One line pretty much sums up the message of
the song..."when we bleed, we bleed the same."
"Nothing"
A great riff from Vince! All about how some people are ignorant about
other people. The way they stare at someone because they dress
different, how they look through someone because they aren't "normal."
What's normal anyway?
"Kharma Coming"
Vince doing his best Zakk Wylde. A monster riff and groove in a track
that is soooo good to play live. The song is a no brainer really...
"What goes around will come around."
"Higher"
A very "up" song and went down a treat on the recent House Of Lords
tour.
"As Good As It Gets"
One of my favourite tracks and the last one written for the album.
Very catchy and loads of groove. Another track that went down a storm
on the House Of Lords tour.
"The Last Goodbye"
Dedicated to Ray Gillen who is one of my greatest heroes and
inspirations. R.I.P. Ray.
"I Don't Do The Blues"
An anti-love song. No crying over lost love, more like "f*ck you and
on to the next!"
"New Tattoo"
This song came from a great grooving riff that was chopped out of a
song from the first album because it didn't fit. It was too good to
waste though, so it was used in the first song we wrote for this
album.
"For Crying Out Loud"
We went for an Audioslave mixed up with Lenny Kravitz vibe on this
track. A pretty unrelenting song!
"Say That You Will"
This was going to be a bonus track but Steve Newman said it was one of
his favourites and he would chuck his dolly out of the pram if it
didn't make it to the album... so here it is. Written at the same time
as "For Crying Out Loud" and in that Audioslave riffing vibe.
"Can't Slow Down"
All about Extreme Sports fanatics, who are complete nutters!! The
heaviest track on the album.

into the genre and spread a positive message while doing so.

Recalling some of the '80s metal tinged hard rock acts that rode
melodic riffs and hooks without concern for flashy playing.
Vertigo - AND MILES TO GO BEFORE WE SLEEP
Progressive Modern Rock with a decidedly psychedelic bent and smooth
female vocals. From hard-driving rock beats to a more ethereal and
melodic vibe, Vertigo's sound is somewhere between Bjork, Evenescence,
Flyleaf, Radiohead, and Tori Amos.
Krunk - GREATIST HITS
With its Cheap Trick-meets-Green-Day-on-a-bad-day music. Vocalist/
Guitarist Jimmy Ratchitt has been a songwriter all his life. As James
Kottak, he drummed for Kingdom Come, and, for the last 10 years, has
been behind the big kit for German rock legends, Scorpions. ("It's the
ultimate day job," he wisecracks.) On drums for Kottak is Athena, who
is way hotter than her brother, Tommy Lee. Athena can definitely hold
her own behind the drums. Guitarist Chris Sheridan (former Sweet
Savage) and Rev Jones (of MSG) round out this combustible quartet.
Krunk - THERUPY
They've been calling this kind of music punk'n' roll in London of late
and that's just fine with Ratchitt who screams, "I'm a punk'n'roller,
dude!"
Fidget - DON'T FIDGET MISSY
Please put your body parts together for the recording debut of Toronto
Canada's own all female smash sensation -- Fidget! This fun
combination of angst, confusion, unrequited love, and general "smart-
assedness" will keep listening audiences squirming, bopping, singing,
smiling, and yes, fidgeting! Complex high energy percussion, wailing
leads, catchy riffs, top notch vocals, and fun-to-sing-along-to
choruses are what these eye-popping ear-blasters are all about. This
Great all female band will be touring all parts of North America in
2008 and 2009 in support of their new album.
Pure Grain - BORN WITHOUT A CONSCIENCE
Inspired by such metal legends as Metallica, Pantera, and Megadeth
this is raw, belted from the gut rawkin metal, a breath of fresh air
in a stale overproduced genre.
Time To Kill - INSANITY
Female-fronted act Time To Kill unleash their fury with their debut
album INSANITY showing a diverse and original blend of punk, metal,
and hardcore. This raw and powerful release captures a true feel of
the underground with songs that stem from everyday situations such as
hangovers to the deep-seeded horrors of child abuse.
Jeff Lemiesz - MIDNIGHT'S COMIN'
This album contains high grade singer songwriter tasty and unique
cross-genre mix of Americana, Blues, and Classic Rock with an
underlying aggressive feel and desperate qualities from punk and metal
roots.

-Shadowside Update
Shadowside Lead Singer Appears With Benedictum In U.S.A.
Shadowside lead singer Dani Nolden performed with Veronica Freeman and
Benedictum, one of the highlights of the Flight Of The Valkyries Metal
Fest, the only festival in U.S. featuring only female fronted Rock /
Metal bands. Dani shared the stage with them on the Dio classic
"Rainbow In The Dark" on June 28 in St. Paul, Minnesota (U.S.A.).
"It was certainly one of the highlights of the weekend! I came up with
the idea after listening to the Shadowside CD one day. I knew that
Benedictum had done several covers of Dio songs previously (two on
their first album -- 'Heaven And Hell' and 'The Mob Rules') and just
thought it would be a unique experience, not to mention a lot of fun
for the fans and the bands. Thankfully, even with the limited time to
work on this idea, Dani, Veronica and the guys from Benedictum were
able to pull this off incredibly well and I thank them endlessly for
that!" said Bobbie Dickerson, festival organizer.
This isn't the first time Dani has done a special appearance. One of
the most important ones was with Andre Matos and Shaman for the Judas
Priest hit "Painkiller."
Shadowside co-headlined Flight Of The Valkyries Festival together with
Unexpect from Canada.

-Rock Against Diabetes Moves Venue
Due To Overwhelming Response The Show Moves Venud
A Message From Founder Darrin Buchanan Of R.A.D.
HOLLYWOOD, CA -- Due to the overwhelming response and growth of the
August 23rd 2008 R.A.D, show, Deep Rock Drive and Rock Against
Diabetes have decided that the only solution to handle the demand and
offer the best experience for fans, was to move to a larger venue.
This will also allow the show to run later, and give the artists
longer sets to further entertain fans.
VIP tickets are STILL limited to the initial 100 people, and these
ticket holders will retain ALL of the perks they were promised, but
will have a much more comfortable setting in which to experience the
show. A more intimate area will also be provided for the post
performance meet and greets and autograph sessions for the VIP ticket
holders.
We are currently in talks with six different properties in Vegas, and
will have the venue locked down this week. Once the venue is locked in
we will announce the new venue and the ticket prices. The show will
consist of eight bands, raffles, auctions, prizes, special guests and
of course the host Evel Dick Donato.
At this time, there are three different companies interested in
streaming and filming the show in HD, so the possibility of fans
watching live from home is still very much in the picture.
Deep Rock Drive has been integral in this process by understanding the
demand, and helping find a great solution to make the show even more
of a success, as well as locating a venue, and offering whatever
production Rock Against Diabetes may need for the show.
Overall, bigger venue, more people can come, VIP's are STILL VIP's.
Thank you
Darrin Buchanan

-Blues/Rock Guitarist Pat Travers Live Album
STICK WITH WHAT YOU KNOW - LIVE IN EUROPE On Provogue Records
In Stores July 22nd, 2008
HOLLYWOOD, CA -- Revered blues/rock guitar guru Pat Travers will
release a powerful live performance on his new album STICK WITH WHAT
YOU KNOW - LIVE IN EUROPE on Provogue Records, July 22nd 2008.
This hard rocking blues performance is in the true Pat Travers
signature style, in your face full of big guitars. The album was
recorded live at the Bosuil in Weert, The Netherlands. The Pat Travers
band on this live performance consists of Pat Travers (guitars, slide
guitar & vocals), Kirk McKim (guitar & backing vocals), Frank McDaniel
(bass & backing vocals) and Eric Frates (drums & backing vocals). The
album was mixed at the Red Room Studios by Sean Shannon assisted by
Brad Johnson.
Pat Travers was born in Toronto, Canada and picked up the guitar at
age 12. After Travers saw the legend Jimi Hendrix perform in Ottawa he
was inspired go after the dream of becoming a star like so many of his
early influences. Inspired by such guitarists as Hendrix, Jeff Beck,
Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page, Pat began playing in bands early in his
teens. His first bands were Red Hot and Merge who played in Quebec
area clubs. While the early years were hard, they would eventually pay
off in the form of improved musicianship, style, and exposure.
Releasing his debut album PAT TRAVERS in April 1976 with Mars Cowling
on bass and Roy Dyke on drums, Pat embarked on a tour of England.
Adorned in a red and white jumpsuit displaying the maple leaf of his
native Canada, Travers increased his following of fans. Trademarks of
his early shows included giving away cardboard replicas of his black
Fender Telecaster, playing barefoot, and inviting audience member to
play "air guitar" on stage during the show. It was with this

-Indianapolis Metal Fest Returns This September
Following a successful 2007 debut, the Indianapolis Metal Fest is
returning this September 26 and 27 to prove itself as the Midwest's
premiere metal festival.
The festival includes an assortment of headliner-status and
personally-chosen unsigned artists, including three bands that will be
making their U.S. debuts. Bands already confirmed are: Dew Scented,
Kittie, Divine Heresy, Mustasch, Daylight Dies, Bleed The Sky, Into
Eternity, Ekotren, Skeletonwitch, The Destro, Gigan (ex-Hate Eternal),
Psyopus, Level-C, Obszon Geschopf, Black Chapel, Demiricous, Gates Of
Slumber, Threat Signal, and The Absence. In all, the festival will
host 60 bands over the two days.
With an extensive background in the music business and live show
promotion, promoter Rob Mason has modeled the Indianapolis Metal Fest
to encompass all sub-genres of metal for a well-rounded and diverse
lineup of bands.
"In addition to a great American lineup, we're bringing in bands from
Sweden, Germany, France, South America, and Canada," Mason said.
"Mustasch, for example, are huge in Europe. They recently won the
Swedish equivalent of a Grammy award, and they're making their U.S.
debut at Indianapolis Metal Fest."
Mason also remains committed to his original vision of shining the
spotlight on the Indianapolis metal scene and the bands who grind it
out in local venues every day.
"Even though the fest has increased in size, I'm very dedicated to the
idea that IMF will be a catalyst to present opportunities to local and
regional talent," he said. "A band we put on the stage at IMF last
year was signed as a direct result of their performance. They weren't
a local band, but the opportunity was there."
Indianapolis Metal Fest II is presented by Blind Prophecy Records and
Roaring Lion Energy Drink, and will be hosted by Mistress Juliya.
Other sponsors include: Sam Ash Music, Jagermeister, Marshall
Amplification, 1Vision Records, Halo Custom Guitars, Divirta, Ltd.,
Candlelight Records, Dark Star Records, Epitomite Productions, Airplay
Direct, Project Independent, Anchor Recordings, Tech 21 NYC, Soul
Asylum Poetry and Publishing, and Blastzone Entertainment.
"It helps to have sponsor partners who share your vision, to say the
least," Mason said. "The support of these allow us to put on a quality
two-day festival. We couldn't do it without them."
The show will take place at Madame Walker Theater, located at 617
Indiana Avenue in Indianapolis. Tickets go on sale Saturday, July 12
and cost $30 in advance/$40 at the door for a two-day admission.
Tickets will be available through
http://www.indianapolismetalfest.com/ and at select retails locations.
All tickets are general admission. Indianapolis Metal Fest II is an
all ages show.
"Indy Metal Fest was a well organized event that rivals most festivals
in the U.S." - Frank Watkins - Obituary (Indianapolis Metal Fest I
headliner)
"By the time headliners Alabama Thunderp*ssy and Obituary rocked the
Knights Of Columbus ballroom late Saturday night, it was already
apparent the inaugural running of the Indianapolis Metal Fest was a
hit." - Nuvo News Weekly – Indianapolis

-Black Elk Tour Dates; New Album Coming In October
ALWAYS A SIX, NEVER A NINE is the second album and the follow-up to
the 2006 self-titled debut from Portland, OR aggro wreckers Black Elk,
whose psychotic brand of crushing, noise-rock influenced heaviosity is
a return to the unhinged underground rock force of bands like Jesus
Lizard, Melvins, Black Flag and Hammerhead. This new album features 10
songs of seething weirdness, with the dissonant, crushing riffage,
lunging rhythmic push and awesome freaked out, Yow-esque vocals of
singer Tom Glose that made their debut a fave among anyone who
remembered the days when Amphetamine Reptile ruled the underground
rock scene, but with some interesting new elements (bleak guitar
ambience, piano, etc.) that add new shadows to Black Elk's ferocious
sound.
ALWAYS A SIX, NEVER A NINE will be coming out through Crucial Blast on
October 21st and will be available as both a CD in deluxe gatefold
packaging and digital download, with touring to coincide with the
release.
Black Elk will stampede down the West Coast beginning this week,
bringing their Pacific Northwest style of wickedly mangled headf*ck-
rock to some lucky towns:

by Tim Wadzinski (tsw512@...)
-Last weekend I was driving to my parents' house and I turned on a
local radio station and caught the end of a really cool song.
Naturally, there was no DJ to tell me the name of the tune so I let it
go... Then last night I was surfing around trying to find out the name
of a cool song my wife had told me about. What a co-inky-dink -- she'd
heard it on that same station: 95 WIIL Rock. Check out
http://www.95wiil.com/ and follow along here... The "Now Playing" link
leads you to a playlist page that shows every song the station's
played for the last several days. By counting backwards in my head I
estimated the date and time I'd heard the song in my parents'
driveway, and thanks to this cool page, voila!, I found my song:
"Devour" by Shinedown. And my wife did the same thing and tracked down
her song: "Addicted" by Saving Abel. A little more digging around on
the "Now Playing" page found me two more cool tunes, Theory Of A
Deadman's "Bad Girlfriend" and Rev Theory's "Hell Yeah."
You have to realize that although this hyar Internet thing isn't
exactly new, and what I'm reporting here isn't exactly cutting-edge
research, it's very cool to me because 1) I don't listen to the radio
hardly AT ALL, and 2) lately my surf time has been cut down to
basically NON-EXISTENT. So, this was a very productive little endeavor
for me: Four promising new bands (well, new to me anyway) to check
out.

JOHN 5 - REQUIEM (B) 60 Cycle Hum, 2008
10 tracks, RT: 43:15
Marilyn Manson guitarist and frequent hired gun shredder John 5 is
back with his latest solo outing REQUIEM, and it's another fun ride of
clashing styles and furious playing sure to tantalize fans of his
unique style. REQUIEM starts off with the cool riff to "Sounds Of
Impalement," and off we go, plenty of driving rhythms and note dense
solos in evidence. Another monster riff follows on "Heretic's Fork,"
and it's easy to see why John is such an in-demand session musician
and consultant (case in point: he helped pen "Hour 1" from the
Scorpions' latest album HUMANITY - HOUR I), as his crunching chords
beg for you to crank your encumbered sound system up to the max.
Honestly, I don't find John's speed picking all that impressive, as he
often plays in a rather loose fashion that sounds curiously rushed,
but even though his technique may not thrill the Paul Gilbert/Vinnie
Moore faithful, he makes up for it with his killer rhythms, quirky
melodies, and of course, his country-flavored forays on tracks such as
"Pity Belt" and "Pear Of Anguish." Really, if you want a quick taste
of what John 5 is all about, sample "The Lead Sprinkler" which is one
of the best tracks on REQUIEM due to its eerie theme and consistent
intensity. The way the songs are done is a bit confusing, with
overlapping motifs making it hard to tell what you are listening to,
but it does serve to tie the material together effectively. Bottom
line, if you have enjoyed John's previous releases you won't find any
surprises here but I doubt you'll leave REQUIEM dissatisfied...

EMIR HOT - SEVDAH METAL (B) Lion Music, 2008

Bosnian guitarist Emir Hot unleashes a potent debut with SEVDAH METAL,
an interesting exploration of neoclassical metal mixed with Eastern
Balkan influences. "Sevdah" refers to a Bosnian style of blues
featuring prominently into the sound, and on cuts such as "Sevdah
Metal Rhapsody," "Hora Martisorului," and "Land Of The Dark," you can
really hear Emir going for something different. Elsewhere, there's a
lot of Yngwie worship going on, with material such as "Devils In
Disguise," "Skies And Oceans," and "Endless Pain" suggesting more than
a few ideas were borrowed from Mr. Malmsteen. Mike Terrana puts in a
fabulous performance on drums, and John West's competent vocals suit
the music well. So I don't know, full marks for the chops, which have
been honed to near perfection, and I think Emir is onto something with
the Bosnian flavors, but he still needs to break free of some of the
standard neoclassical structures that may potentially obscure his
unique talents. One to watch...

GREG HOWE - SOUND PROOF (A) Tone Center, 2008
14 tracks, RT: 56:21
On his first solo album since 2003's EXTRACTION, Greg Howe again shows
us lesser players how it's done with his superbly refined blend of
jazz/fusion, funk and rock, proving himself quite definitively to be
one of the very best guitarists on the planet. You won't have to go
far to find mind-blowing chops from all involved in this killer
project, including exceptional contributions from drummer Gianluca
Palmieri, bassist Jon Reshard and keyboardist David Cook. Where Greg
finds this prodigious talent is anyone's guess, but he most certainly
selected the right guys for the job as I'm sure you'll agree after
hearing cuts such as "Emergency Exit," "Side Note," "Child's Play,"
and the title track. It's not all extreme virtuosity, however, as Greg
gives us a tasty, Jeff Beck style cover of the Rufus & Chaka Khan
classic "Tell Me Something Good," and relaxes effectively with the
sensitive "Sunset In El Paso." Greg has a cool sense of humor, as
demonstrated on some of the spoken segues featuring hilarious
answering machine messages from what (I hope) are send-ups of a gear-
obsessed fan and a critical A&R rep. Greg never fails to astound with
his compositional excellence, creativity and control of the
instrument, always playing with maturity and class. A must-have for
Greg Howe and fusion fanatics, SOUND PROOF is a treat for the ears.

KING'S X - XV (B+) Inside Out Music, 2008

Hard to believe but if you include their live and greatest hits
releases, this is the fifteenth album (hence the title) from legendary
rockers King's X. In 1987 King's X released one of the best albums of
the '80s, the fantastic GRETCHEN GOES TO NEBRASKA. Correctly hailed as
innovators and consistently praised by fellow musicians, the band
never achieved the success they so richly deserved but continued to
release albums embraced by a loyal following but ignored by the
masses. I must admit I'd kind of lost track of the band after their
last few albums as they had moved into a direction that was not really
compelling to me, but after hearing XV I'm excited to hear fresh
material from these guys! "Pray" starts things of in fine form with an
infectious bass line and awesome vocal delivery from Dug Pinnick, Ty
Tabor's down-tuned power chords blasting from the speakers while
drummer Jerry Gaskill lays down a thunderous beat. "Repeating Myself"
is a nice mellow excursion with an alternative vibe that doesn't ruin
the emotional element, while "Rocket Ship," "Move," and "Go Tell
Somebody" are classic King's X hard rockers. The band lose me when
they stray too far into the psychedelic/Beatles-inspired material, and
they even toy with some Tom Petty/Goo Goo Dolls flavors on songs like
"Julie," but when the band can still crank out a song as amazing as
bonus track "Love And Rockets (Hell's Screaming), I can overlook some
of the blander offerings. XV is a strong album overall, and even
though it doesn't reach the lofty heights of GRETCHEN GOES TO NEBRASKA
or FAITH HOPE LOVE, make no mistake: King's X are back!
