Finnish monster-rockers Lordi are coming your way. With the release of

the holiday won't end come November. Kicking it all off with a
performance on "Late Night With Conan O'Brien" on 11/6/08, Lordi will
be bringing the over-the-top, unstoppable, horror movie theatrics and
pyrotechnic-fueled rock 'n' roll to a city near you. To preface the
release of DEADACHE and the tour, the band will preview tracks from

Mr. Lordi, who designed all new costumes for the band, has a gang of
monsters at his side -- Amen the unstoppable mummy, Awa the vampire
countess, Ox the hellbull, and Kita the alien manbeast. Together they

Prior to his current role in Deep Purple, Airey has held court with
the best of the best, playing with such acts as Gary Moore, Ozzy
Osbourne, Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, Jethro Tull, Whitesnake,
Colosseum II, Sinner, Michael Schenker, Uli Jon Roth, Rainbow, Divlje
jagode and Living Loud. He has also worked with Andrew Lloyd Webber.

Tony Harnell Joins Z rock 2009 Lineup

Tony Harnell [TNT, Westworld] has confirmed his appearance at Z Rock
2009 on May 29th. His set will be a "best of" from his long and
successful career with TNT, Westworld, and much more. All of us at Z
are happy about Tony's return to the Z Rock Festival stage after his
last appearance in 2002.

Tony made the following comment...

"As some of you may know I was forced to cancel my appearance at
Firefest this year due to an illness in my family. It's great that

After a delay of two months we're delighted to finally announce that
the release date for the CELTIC LEGACY/RESURRECTION reissue will be
November 24.

Both albums will be part of the same package, released as a double CD
set but costing the price of a single album. The package will feature
all new artwork combining elements from both albums and with an all-
new 24-page booklet outlining the making of both albums. The first
album features three bonus tracks, while RESURRECTION has been re-
mastered to correct many mastering errors which were present on the
original release.

We're looking forward to having these album available for sale once
again. The album will be available to purchase directly from the main
Celtic Legacy Web site from November 24 on.

and YouTube icon Robert Sutherland (Chapman) whose playing is
described by Megadeth's James Lomenzo as "fiery and mesmerizing," has
joined forces with Eternal Descent as second guitarist.

"I have always been a huge fan of instrumental metal, especially the
playing of Marty Friedman and Alex Skolnick," explains Sutherland.
"When I first heard Eternal Descent, it just got me excited about
music in a way that I hadn't been for a long time. It is an honour to
be joining forces with such a skilled musician as Llexi Leon, who
despite his obvious natural ability for composition and his insane
technical ability, manages to remain humble and focused on what has
become our goal of writing the best fusion of Gothic, Metal, Ambient,

Sutherland leaves behind his band of five years The Black Hand, and
dives straight into the recording of Eternal Descent's second album,

"Llexi seemed to be around every corner I looked," adds Sutherland,
"whether it was endorsing Orange Amplifiers and Faith Guitars

we discussed collaborating on Eternal Descent, I knew I had to give it

Sutherland is a London guitar institute graduate and has performed at

Born to rock and rock hard they do, Viking Skull make their proper
U.S. introduction with the release of DOOM GLOOM HEARTACHE & WHISKEY.
Due to limited label support and resources the band's two previous
albums are hard-to-find items for the band's fast growing fanbase.
Vocalist Roddy Stone notes, "being signed to a record company that
actually wants to sell records and help us out a bit by splashing some
cash so we can actually record an album and tour is a first for us.
It's like upgrading from sails to a big jet engine on a battle ship
armed with riffs and songs so dense they can crush planets. It's a
perfect combination to rid the world of the piss weak metal we hear
today; bands who spend more time doing their hair and chasing the

Stone with bassist Waldie, guitarists Dom and Brandwine Eel, and
drummer Jess Margera take their love of Sabbath and add to it modern
rock icons to create a good ole rock n roll vibe that is contagious
and fun. Already a noted live performer in Europe where the band have
toured with the likes of Dio, H.I.M., Clutch, and two appearances at
the prestigious Download Festival, Viking Skull are looking forward to
their first big performances in the U.S. "It's about time Viking Skull
got to play some proper gigs in the U.S.," says Margera. "I was
starting to get sick of always having to fly across the Atlantic Ocean
every time I needed to get my fix. The United States needs Viking
Skull! Maybe the country would be in better shape right now if we got
John McCain and Barack Obama a beer, a shot of whiskey and the new
Viking Skull album."

Formed in 2003, Viking Skull draw deeply on a mix of Black Sabbath,
AC/DC, W.A.S.P., Motorhead, The Who, Kiss and Thin Lizzy for good
measure. The band recorded and independently released their early
songs for a whopping $500. The recording, titled CHAPTER ONE, was met
with amazing reviews; the album still the only one to date to score 11
out of 10 in Metal Hammer! In 2005 the band recorded BORN IN HELL,
their debut full-length. European tours with Clutch and cKy would
follow as the band's profile continued to grow. Late 2006 would see
the band return to the studio for recordings of the first record to
see limited U.S. release. CHAPTER TWO was released in early 2007 and
featured guest appearances from members of cKy and Fireball Ministry.

DOOM GLOOM HEARTACHE & WHISKEY is the first album from newly-formed
London-based Powerage Records. A joint venture between Classic Rock
Magazine/Future PLC and Plastichead Music Distribution, Powerage
Records was intently formed to champion high-voltage rock and roll.
A&R veteran Derek Oliver has been brought in to oversee artist liaison
while the editorial and sales teams of Classic Rock and Plastichead
Music tackle the marketing and sales for the artists. In the U.S.,
Candlelight Records will oversee and coordinate all efforts for
Powerage with the help of Caroline Distribution/EMI Music Marketing.

-NO END IN SIGHT For Pro-Pain On New Regain Release

TRENTON, N.J. -- Pro-Pain's 11th album, the aptly titled NO END IN
SIGHT, is now available in stores via Regain Records.

After 16 years together, Pro-Pain has not lost an ounce of the rage
and fury that has driven the band to create equally hard-hitting
albums.

"We still enjoy making music together as a band on and off stage, and
we feel as though some of our best records have been made in recent
times," said vocalist/bassist/founding member Gary Meskil. "Our fans
are also a very important factor when it comes to our longevity.
Without their diehard support, we would probably not be able to
continue in the same capacity."

Die-hard fans know what to expect with each album, but they also know
that each will have its own flair. NO END IN SIGHT is Pro-Pain's most
melodic offering to date while still maintaining a traditional Pro-
Pain heaviness.

"Over the past year, we have further developed our own sound and style
by veering away from the trends that seek to achieve nothing more than
'sonic heaviness,' which can be immature and shallow," Meskil said.
"In our opinion, heaviness in music is a much broader concept. Our
unique views, when applied to our band, have allowed us to become our
own animal."

NO END IN SIGHT was recorded with a more old-school, less-is-more
approach. "Once we achieved the tones that we liked, we left it that
way," Meskil said. "So, there wasn't that much to do in terms of the
mix aside from a few tweaks here and there. We are big fans of the
'70s classic rock approach to recording/producing, and so we try to
keep things simple and earthy. Tom Scholz from the band Boston is
quoted as saying, 'What I need in the studio is just the basic
equipment. As soon as you add on more channels than you need and more
gadgets, then you have more trouble.' I agree."

The album includes special guest appearances from Pro-Pain friends and
family, like Cannibal Corpse guitarist Rob Barrett, Bohse Onkelz
bassist Stephan Weidner, and Corey and Gary Meskil, Jr., both aspiring
metal musicians.

The album's title, NO END IN SIGHT, with the "No" crossed out, came
courtesy of drummer JC Dwyer and leaves room for multiple
interpretations. Meskil's personal take has to do with the "End Times"
philosophy. "As the world spirals downward, with each passing day the
title becomes more and more relevant," he said.

-I'm excited the Paul Stanley live DVD is finally out (and it's only
$11.99 right now at Amazon.com and Best Buy). I was at that show and
can't wait to see if I made it into any camera shots. (Yes, I'm like
that.) But while I was on Amazon checking stuff out, I stumbled across
info on two recent Kiss releases that I am ashamed to admit I didn't
really know anything about...

KISSOLOGY is the name of the (apparently) import-only collection of
older songs re-recorded by the current Stanley/Simmons/Thayer/Singer
lineup. The track list: "Deuce," "Detroit Rock City," "I Was Made For
Lovin' You," "Love Gun," "Rock And Roll All Nite," "I Love It Loud,"
"Black Diamond," "Lick It Up," "Christine Sixteen," "Do You Love Me,"

"Forever," "Hotter Than Hell." I remember hearing the band was going

Then there is the IKONS four-disc box set. The idea behind this is
actually kind of cool -- each original member gets a complete disc of

"Heaven's On Fire," "Unholy," "War Machine," "Tears Are Falling," and
"Domino." I think it's totally cool to see Ace's "Rip It Out," "Save
Your Love," and "Dark Light" surface again, though. But... Does anyone
really need this? There are no previously unreleased tracks here, and
from what I gather these are all the regular ol' studio versions --
not remixes or re-mastered versions -- so phooey.

SAINT – CRIME SCENE EARTH (B-) Armor Records, 2008

Christian metal stalwarts Saint (not to be confused with Armored
Saint, obviously!) have been kickin' around the underground since the
early '80s and have released several albums that are widely hailed as
classics (1984's WARRIORS OF THE SON and 1986's TIME'S END). Following
a late '80s breakup, they've been pumping out new material on a fairly
regular basis since reforming in the late '90s, though this is the
first "new" Saint CD I've heard. In a nutshell, Saint play no-frills,
traditional, meat and potatoes heavy metal very similar to vintage
Judas Priest. (I've often said that TIME'S END sounds like a lost
Judas Priest album that might've been released between BRITISH STEEL
and POINT OF ENTRY. Pick that one up if you can find it, because it's
a winner! End of commercial.) As for CRIME SCENE EARTH, it sounds like
the band has aged well enough musically, but unfortunately time may
not have been as kind to vocalist Josh Kramer. His vocals, very
similar to Halford's in years past, sound a bit rougher than they did
in the old days and though that's not a BAD thing per se, he
occasionally tries to push into high-pitched territory that he can't
quite reach, as in the clumsy, squawking choruses on opening track
"Half A Time's Measure." (But hey, the Metal God himself can't quite
hit 'em like he used to either, so I probably shouldn't complain too
much.) Thankfully those moments are few and far between. The rest of
the album is pretty much what longtime Saint fans want to hear --
chugging, mid-paced, classic sounding metal with an uplifting message.
"Everlasting God" is a decent metal praise anthem, and "The Judas In
Me" and "Terror In The Sky" (my fave track) hit the bull's eye as
well. If I had to find fault with anything on CRIME SCENE EARTH it's
that the production sometimes sounds a bit muddy, which is a minor
complaint that is unlikely to deter their longtime fans from digging
this album. Extra props to the band for their surprising choice of a
cover song, which is a fun rip through the underrated Judas Priest
track "Invader" (one of my all-time favorites!)... any band who likes
the STAINED CLASS album as much as I do can write their own ticket
with me. :)

SEVEN WITCHES – DEADLY SINS (B-) Screaming Ferret Wreckords, 2007

New Jersey's guitar slingin' journeyman Jack Frost continues to be the
hardest working man in the metal business with the release of DEADLY
SINS, the seventh album from his venerable power-metal outfit (which
is, of course, just one out of his multitude of projects) and the
second S.W. disc with vocalist Alan Tecchio (ex-Hades) behind the mic.
In the hype sheet Jack proclaims that DEADLY SINS is "the best work of
my career." I may not quite agree with that statement (Seven Witches
will be hard pressed to ever surpass 2003's masterpiece, PASSAGE TO
THE OTHER SIDE, in my opinion) but I can definitely say that DEADLY
SINS is a vast improvement over the last S.W. album, 2006's AMPED,
which was a transitional effort (released during a period of near-
total lineup turmoil within the Witches camp) that was occasionally
overly dark, sometimes directionless, and all in all, downright
disappointing. On DEADLY SINS Frost and Tecchio have finally found
their groove, aided by the able bass work by Joey (Armored Saint) Vera
(who also co-produced the album with Frost). DEADLY SINS is a
conceptual piece based on the "Seven Sins of Mahatma Gandhi," a work
which I'm not familiar with, but fortunately the mostly one-word song
titles ("Science," "Commerce," "Worship," "Knowledge," etc.) give you
an idea of what's going on here. Kicking off with the chugging title
track, each "deadly sin" is examined song by song, powered by Frost's
trademark galloping riff work and Tecchio's dramatic, occasionally
over-the-top vocals (which are nowhere as screechy or grating as they
were on AMPED, which is a relief!)...in fact, this may be some of
Tecchio's most versatile vocal work yet. The only tracks that I didn't
care for were "Man Of The Millennium," which has a droning chorus that
gets annoying rather quickly, and "Wealth," which has Tecchio dipping
into a death metal grunt that doesn't fit his style at all. Other than
those minor complaints, DEADLY SINS is heavy as hell, solid as a rock,
and should definitely please the Witches faithful who were thrown for
a loop by the atypical last album.

I love it when bands' bio sheets contain boasts like this one: "Let us
introduce you to your new favourite band." Uhhh... nah, that's OK,
really. If you're not already totally sick of stoner rock, you will be
by the time you finish listening to this 41-minute behemoth. I
actually had to double check the timer on my CD player while writing
this review, because BLACK CLOUDS IN TWIN GALAXIES certainly felt like
a hell of a lot longer than 41 minutes!! In case you were wondering
who this trio might be, Winters hails from the U.K. and were
discovered by Lee Dorrian, their fellow countryman/doom rock
aficionado/Rise Above Records honcho/Cathedral front man/dude who
wears a lotta hats... Lee liked them so much that he inked them to his
label to release this disc, their debut album. Mind you, I dig
Cathedral and I have nothing but respect for Mr. Dorrian, but two
spins through this platter was about all I could handle. This so-
called "epic voyage of sonic discovery" sounded more to me like one
ponderously LONG song, with some of the whiniest vocals I've heard in
an age... Imagine, if you will, Billy Corgan (Smashing Pumpkins)
singing over a Black Sabbath record that's being played at the wrong
speed. Talk about your nightmare scenario! Have you ever been stuck
behind someone in the fast lane on the highway who's doing 20 MPH (and
who usually has had their left hand turn signal on for the last 20
miles)? That's the feeling I got while listening to this record.

story: when preparing to write CDs, I listen to a lot of my promos
while in my car or at my desk at work. During my second pass through
BLACK CLOUDS IN TWIN GALAXIES, several of my co-workers actually
pleaded with me to turn it off. Since they hardly ever complain about
the music I listen to, that says a lot about how annoying this slow,
dirgy, drone was. I suppose the stoner rock crowd will trip out on
this one but I simply don't dig it... Either I don't take enough
downers to wrap my head around what these three heshers are doing, or
they slipped me some bad acid, but either way, Winters and I are
obviously not in the same galaxy.
