-Queensryche Set To Unveil AMERICAN SOLDIER This Spring
Epic Concept Album Looks At War From The Soldier's Perspective; Spring
Tour Of U.S. To Follow
LOS ANGELES -- Queensryche is currently in the studio putting the
finishing touches on their 12th studio album, AMERICAN SOLDIER. The
concept album, due this spring from Rhino/Atco, finds the band once
again tackling some heavy subject matter, this time focusing on
telling the story of war from a firsthand perspective. Singer and
chief songwriter Geoff Tate has spent the last few years conducting
extensive interviews with veterans and has crafted their thoughts into
this epic tale. AMERICAN SOLDIER examines American wars from World War
II through Iraq from the viewpoint of those in the trenches and on the
frontlines. Following the album's release, Queensryche plan to present
tracks from the album live on an extensive spring tour of the U.S.,
with international dates to follow later in 2009. The first date of
the tour will be a hometown gig at Seattle's Snoqualmie Casino on
April 16.
"Queensryche has always had incredible support from members of the
Armed Services," says Tate. "It seems like after every show, I'd end
up speaking with a fan that was or had been involved with the
military. The more and more I began to hear their accounts and
feelings, the more I really felt a conviction to tell their story.
Over the last two years, I've conducted dozens of one-on-one
interviews with veterans of many different American wars. I listened
to their amazing and moving recounts and did my best to examine war
through their eyes."

ALLENTOWN, PENNSYLVANIA -- It is with deep sadness and regret that we
announce the passing of Shadow Gallery vocalist, Michael A. Baker.
Mike suffered a heart attack, Wednesday afternoon, October 29th, 2008.
He was 45 years old. Mike was a founding member of Shadow Gallery and
for the past 16 years, helped shape the sound of the band with his
magical voice. Additionally, he made many appearances on rock records
around the world. Those who knew him best were moved by his gentle
spirit, sincere kindness, fun nature and passion for both music and
sports. He was a warrior in the studio, a true professional. Mike was
our friend, our singer and our brother. We loved him and will miss him
enormously, but he will always be remembered in our hearts and through
his music.
At this time we are setting up a condolence book on the Shadow Gallery
Band Web site that you will be able to leave a message.

Kampfar: Fireblade Force Festival Statement
"In light of Kampfar's cancelation of the show at the Fireblade Force
Festival in Liechtenstein, Germany, on October 11, we feel the need to
publish this explanation. This show was supposed to be the last show
of our Tordenstorm tour. Unfortunately, our tour ended at the side of
the road in the Alps, only a few hours before we were supposed to hit
the stage. Our tour bus was stopped by the Austrian police due to a
mechanical problem. The bus was taken to a garage for inspection, and
it was not possible to repair the problem at the time. By the time we
realized that we could not continue it was too late to find an
alternative solution to take us the remaining distance. Hence, we had
to make the difficult decision to call off our show at Fireblade
Force. On behalf of Elite, our crew, the festival, and ourselves, we
are very sorry that this was the outcome. We have come to an agreement
with the organisers of the festival, and will be working together in
the future."

-Virgin Steele - Detail Track Listings!
On October 31st... Halloween... Virgin Steele will be re-releasing
their albums LIFE AMONG THE RUINS, THE MARRIAGE OF HEAVEN AND HELL -
PART ONE and THE MARRIAGE OF HEAVEN AND HELL - PART TWO. (Halloween is
the release date for Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Other release
dates may differ.)
All three albums will contain bonus tracks and new booklets containing
many photos and liner notes. As bonus tracks on THE MARRIAGE - PART
TWO album, the group has included two live performances recorded in
Germany, and on LIFE AMONG THE RUINS, Virgin Steele have included
several live acoustic tracks that were recorded in the living room of
David DeFeis' house during rehearsals.
As regards these live acoustic rehearsal tapes David had to say, "Upon
listening back to those recordings, we felt that we had achieved a
really interesting mood... the performances are really raw, honest and
direct. We did not add any multi-track overdubs or any additions
whatsoever, they are just the stereo recordings presented live and
unvarnished as we played them. In this age of high technology we felt
that it was nice to do something really raw and low-tech. The songs
work well in this stripped down format, and the feeling in the room
was incredible. At some point we may actually release an entire disc
of these various live onstage performances and rehearsals we have in
our archives. As regards the full band live tracks... it is the
same... no overdubs or enhancements. The tracks were recorded with
just a simple stereo cassette player... not a multi-track high-end
machine."

Engine Of Pain Seek New Singer
Engine Of Pain, the Heavy Metal band from the South of the Netherlands
signed to a worldwide record deal with Lion Music and endorsees of
Jackson Guitars, Dean Guitars, Engl amps and Spector basses are
searching for a new singer to implement the release of their upcoming
second album and also to promote that album after the release
(interviews, gigs, etc.). For the future a third album is also
planned.
Current State Of New Music
The songs for the second album are 90% finished but without any lyrics
and vocal melodies. Think about a mixture of Forbidden, Fates Warning,
Annihilator, Iron Maiden and Nevermore with heavy parts in between,
lots of space for vocals and above all very melodic soloing.
The new style of music is somewhere in the region of two previous
recorded promo songs which you can hear at the band's MySpace profile

Singer Requirements
Applicants needn't have the same voice as the previous singer but the
band are NOT looking for a shouter, grunter, screamer, gothic, etc.
Engine Of Pain are searching for a Heavy Metal singer who can sing
melodic in addition to possessing a good range and power. The ability
to write your own lyrics is also preferred. Engine Of Pain are not
looking for a project singer but a new (enthusiastic) steady band
member.

Coste Apetrea is a Scandinavian music legend with a history dating
back to the early 1970s and involvement in some of the most
challenging music to come out of this region since that time. Coste's
new album SURPRISINGLY HEAVY follows up his 2006 Lion Music release
RITES OF PASSAGE -- yet as the new album title hints, it's a release
that may well raise an eyebrow to those familiar with Coste's more
usual style, yet the album shows how versatile this legend is.
The new album SURPRISINGLY HEAVY is a derivative of Coste's early
years combined with the person he is today. On the album Coste
comments, "I thought my previous release RITES OF PASSAGE was heavy
and rocky but mostly it got regarded as a Jazz rock CD by the media
and music fans at large; still it made me curious to explore this side
of my soul. My ears have been opened to the modern day Metal and Prog
Metal scene, so to my delight I've found I've really got into this
sound at this stage of my life. Most of the tracks are based around
big riffs, an art form in itself which has influenced me from as far
back as the late '60s and early '70s. My main goal was to create
powerful Heavy music close to Metal and add melodic parts in order to
make the Heavy parts heavier as they come on after the melodic parts,
I also allow all kinds of different emotional content, I don't mind if
it becomes extremely noisy or extremely sentimental, as long as it's
real feelings."
The music on SURPRISINGLY HEAVY shows that not only has Coste Apetrea
got into this music as a listener but has also become a fine purveyor
of the genre. Backed by a rich, heavy and open production, the album
shows an artist that continues to evolve whilst others stagnate, and
deserves to be discovered by a new generation of fans for this is one
of progressive music's most worthy performers.
Artist Biography In Brief
Coste Apetrea's music career started back in 1972 with the avant/rock/
prog band Samla Mamma Manna who recorded three albums. Coste left to
join forces with Finnish music legend Jukka Tolonen where they made
seven albums together and played all the major venues of the day
including appearances at the 1978 Montreaux Jazz Festival and the 1979
Roskilde Rock Festival. Since then Coste toured constantly for 12
years and made 12 albums with various bands as well as his first solo
album NYSPOLAT. For the following 18 years Coste wrote music for the
media productions and worked as a producer saying that touring and
composing for film, radio and TV are the best education one can get in
music. Today sees Coste doing a mix of the two outlets and says it's
the best of both worlds. 2006 saw Coste's first solo album release on
Lion Music with the jazz rock influenced RITES OF PASSAGE and in
recent years Coste has toured with his own riff based rock trio
Doubleneck whose heavier approach played a large influence on the
music heard on SURPRISINGLY HEAVY.

VII Gates are a classic metal outfit hailing from Sweden who add a new
dimension to the genre with the infusion of modern day power metal

this element further yet all the while keeping a consistent flow to
the music and bands trademark sound.
The guitar work of JJ Rockford and Robert Makek leaves a rich musical
backdrop for the crisp vocals of Criss Blackburn to deliver many
moods. Underpinned by the dynamic rhythm section of drummer Mick Van
Slowfoot and new bassist Nicola Posa; VII Gates deliver metal that
will appeal to fans of classic metal and the modern day power metal
movement.
On the album JJ Rockford comments, "When we released our first album
FIRE, WALK WITH ME, the reviews where incredibly good. People really
seemed to like how we took classic heavy metal and added a few new
elements here and there. So, for this album, we tried to take this
process even further. So the songs will sometimes have very dramatic
changes, you will never know what will happen next. But still we
managed to keep a flow, it still sounds like relatively normal songs
in a traditional sense. In VII Gates, there is always a steady
foundation of a very classic hard rock/heavy metal sound at the base.
But above that basic layer it's more open this time around."
"The titles of all the lyrics probably sound like typical heavy metal
titles. But behind them, you will only find stories of two general
subjects. First, usual horror movie/books subjects. Or secondly,
stories about bad marriages or the lust to live your own life, free
from conventional relationships. Most of the tracks are more intricate
and also a bit longer than on our debut but not at the expense of
quality. New bassist Nicola Pasa definitely helped make the songs feel
more alive, through some really carefully prepared bass playing. Guest
keyboardist Tim Diaz also had more freedom this time. It's still the
basic instruments and the strong songs which are doing the main work,
but the keyboards really added an extra dimension to the songs".

GUITAR IDOL 2008 was conceived as an online worldwide talent search to
find the next generation of Guitar Heroes... and boy did it deliver!
Already the biggest guitar competition in history, between March 21st
2008 and the Live Grand Final on June 14th 2008 almost half a million
people visited, voted or entered the competition. On June 14th
thousands of guitar fans witnessed 12 future guitar stars do battle
with a crack live band on the main stage at The London International
Music Show to be crowned "Guitar Idol 2008."
In late 2007 Alloutguitar.com, Licklibrary.com and the U.K.'s Guitar
Buyer magazine sat down and decided the time was right to launch a new
international guitarist talent search -- one that for the first time
utilised the Internet, by having contestants upload their video or
audio entries at
http://www.guitar-idol.co.uk/ to then be voted and
discussed by guitar fans worldwide. With the massive resurgence of
guitar playing, from metal to blues to the new acoustic masters, we
all thought this could be big... but not this big! Visitors to the
website crossed all cultural and national divides -- not only from the
U.S. and Europe but places as diverse as Nepal, Iraq and Siberia!
With nearly 1,000 contestants truly spanning the globe, the standard
was overwhelmingly high. Eventually with a combination of public votes
and a panel of industry professionals, 12 outstanding Finalists were
chosen.
Finalists Gustavo di Padua, Gustavo Guerra and Fernando Miyata flew in
from the "new home of shred" Brazil, Peter Petchalov from Russia,
Chris Feener from Canada, Muris Varajic from Bosnia and Daniele
Gottardo from Italy. The U.K. was represented by Jas Morris, Tom
Qualye, Ben Randall, the one-handed phenomenon Marc Playle and Lyle
Watt, the 15 year wunderkind from North Scotland!
All of the finalists arrived in London for Friday 13th July 2008, to
rehearse their songs at North London's "Institute of Contemporary
Music Performance" with an amazing live band consisting of Darren
Ashford (Drums), Gianluca Corona (Rhythm Guitar) and Dave Marks (Bass
and M.D). Five languages, 12 players, and less than 10 hours... Anyone
reading this who's ever played live and rehearsed a set knows how hard
this would have been -- throw in the language barriers as well and the
prospect of playing in front of thousands of guitar fans the next
day... I'm sure you all appreciate how monumental a task this was! But
they did it!
And so, on Saturday 14th June 2008, on the main stage at The London
Guitar Show -- with no sound check -- the 12 finalists performed to a
huge audience and a panel of industry judges. After nearly two hours
of explosive guitar talent, the judges eventually picked the deserved
winner -- Gustavo Guerra from Brazil -- Guitar Idol 2008!
This CD is a celebration of the first in what will be an ongoing
annual competition that could well dictate the future of virtuoso
guitar playing! On this album are not only the 12 lucky finalists, but
three other players who were invited to attend the finals but couldn't
make the journey, as well as a further three who were so close to
making the final dozen that we couldn't ignore their efforts...
Listening to this CD, I think you'll agree that after years in the
doldrums the art of virtuoso guitar playing is well and truly back!

The last time guitar playing on this level was in the limelight, it
was almost exclusively the province of guitar players from the U.S.
and Western Europe. Fast forward 20 years and we see the emergence of
hotbeds of talent from South America, Eastern Europe and Asia joining
the party... it seems that outstanding guitar playing is now a truly
worldwide commodity. So let's all do our bit to break down the walls
of the cultural divide and welcome in a new golden age of guitar!

New Mexico Fan's Video for "An Extraordinary Life" Selected by Asia as
Song's Official Online Music Video
In what may be an exciting new case of "life imitating art," the
acclaimed British rock super-group, Asia has announced Doug Purdy of
Albuquerque, New Mexico, as the grand prize winner of the band's
QuickTime music video contest for "An Extraordinary Life." The video
contest was launched by the band, its label, and strategic partners as
a new initiative between Asia and its fans. For the contest, (which

invited by the band, in partnership with QuickTime, to create their
own music videos for "Extraordinary Life," a track from Asia's new EMI
America Records album, PHOENIX.
The song was designed to celebrate the positive aspects and memories
in everyone's life, and encourages the listener to "Carp Diem;" living
every day to the fullest. The song was written by Asia members John
Wetton and Geoff Downes in direct response to Wetton's recent
successful recovery from open heart surgery. Purdy's video, like many
others entered into the contest, contains personal home video footage
and photos interspersed with footage of Asia performing the song, for
unique interactive experience.
"This was a unique way of connecting with our fans, via the Web," says
Carl Palmer, drummer. "It was interesting to see the type of images
our fans thought could fit the song, itself."
As the contest's top prize winner, Purdy has also won an Apple MacBook
AIR laptop, custom etched with Asia's logo. In addition, his creative
video has been selected as the song's official online music video by
Asia's Geoff Downes, Steve Howe, Carl Palmer and John Wetton. The

Slough Feg have been going strong since 1990! My God...hardly anyone
knew them back then, but they were onto something unique and special.
Their earliest recordings featured vocalist Omar, instead of what

is really rough '80s sounding metal with the obvious Thin Lizzy
influence and a dash of Punk Rock.
After all the years it's finally nice to see a band like this get a

White Zombie -- The musical horror show that mixed dark pop culture
with metallic hard rock has been resurrected on the 4-CD/1-DVD box set
LET SLEEPING CORPSES LIE (Geffen/UMe), releasing November 25, 2008.
The CDs bring together for the first time all 64 original studio
recordings released by the band led by Rob Zombie during its 1985-1996
career. The DVD offers nine music videos, 10 live performances, and
some hidden gems.
Disc One of LET SLEEPING CORPSES LIE includes all of the tracks
released on the New York City band's own Silent Explosion label -- the
four songs on the 1985 GODS ON VOODOO MOON EP, of which only 300
copies were pressed; the two songs on the 1986 PIG HEAVEN EP, which
had only 1,000 made; and the seven on 1987's PSYCHO-HEAD BLOWOUT EP,
which Nirvana's Kurt Cobain called one of his favorite albums.
Disc Two encompasses White Zombie's first two full-length albums,
1987's SOUL-CRUSHER, which began on Silent Explosion but was re-
released by Caroline Records the following year, and 1989's MAKE THEM
DIE SLOWLY.
Disc Three offers the three-selection GOD OF THUNDER EP and the band's
1992 major label debut, LA SEXORCISTO: DEVIL MUSIC VOL. 1, which broke
the band into the Top 40, earned double platinum and spawned the Best
Hard Rock Performance Grammy-nominated "Thunder Kiss '65" and "Black
Sunshine" (with Iggy Pop). Also heard is "I Am Hell" from the 1993
compilation THE BEAVIS & BUTT-HEAD EXPERIENCE.
Disc Four opens with "Children Of The Grave" from a 1994 Black Sabbath
tribute album and "Feed The Gods" from that year's "Airheads"
soundtrack album. The centerpiece, however, is 1995's ASTRO-CREEP:
2000, SONGS OF LOVE, DESTRUCTION AND OTHER SYNTHETIC DELUSIONS OF THE
ELECTRIC HEAD, which ranked in the Top 10 for two months, was
certified triple platinum and spun off the Modern Rock Top 10, Grammy
nominated "More Human Than Human." The 64 LET SLEEPING CORPSES LIE
recordings conclude with 1996 soundtrack contributions to "Escape From
L.A.," "Beavis And Butt-head Do America" and "The Crow: City Of
Angels," with its Grammy nominated cover of the disco hit "I'm Your
Boogieman."
Among the DVD's videos are those for "More Human Than Human," winner
of the MTV Video Music Award for Best Hard Rock Video, as well as
"Thunder Kiss '65," "Black Sunshine," "Super-Charger Heaven," "I'm
Your Boogieman" and "The One." Live performances include "Soul-
Crusher," "Spiderbaby (Yeah Yeah Yeah)," "I Am Hell" and "Creature Of
The Wheel."
White Zombie stopped touring and recording in 1998 after the release
of the HELLBILLY DELUXE, the triple platinum solo debut for Rob
Zombie, who has since enjoyed continued success both on record and as
a film director with his vision of the dark side.

release of the CD format of their first album in 22 years titled METAL

Anyone that had pre-ordered the CD format of the album before the
original date of October 31st, 2008 will also receive a special CD-R

LOS ANGELES, CA -- Port Of Spain, Trinidad based rock band Orange Sky
will release their label debut DAT IZ VOODOO on StarCity Recording,
February 17, 2009 with distribution to be handled by MRI, a division
of RED Distribution. The band recently returned to the U.S. to kick
off a fall/winter tour prepping the album release. Earlier this
summer, the band previewed material from the upcoming full-length
release during a 20+ run of the east coast. DAT IZ VOODOO was recorded
through 2007 and 2008, in St. Anns, Trinidad at Imagi Studios in part
with legendary producer and engineer Jeff Glixman (Black Sabbath, Bob
Marley, Kansas ). Together, the band laid down 12 genre-bending
tracks, described as "RISE-era Bad Brains," their insistent and
diverse musical styles fuse together a modern-edged metallic rock

Brothers Nigel and Nicholas Rojas formed Orange Sky and began playing
gigs in their home country, rapidly gaining a reputation as a highly
entertaining and respected live act. Becoming increasingly popular
throughout the Caribbean, the Trinidad and Tobago Ministry of Tourism
officially named the band International Ambassadors. Opening for a
wide range of touring stars from Hatebreed to Ludacris, the band
signed with Granite/Universal where they released their first album,
UPSTAIRS, in 2006, and supported it with a tour opening for Adema and
two U.S. tours opening for Yngwie Malmsteen.
Now, ready to unleash their second album on the world, Nigel says it's
packed with music that existing fans and new listeners alike will go
wild for. "DAT IZ VOODOO has stuff that's really meant to be played
live. Not just songs to listen to, but songs to bang your head to.
It's a more progressive record," he continues. "We were a little more
open to each other, playing songs we knew would go off better live."
DAT IZ VOODOO runs the gamut from the delicate, piano-led ballad
"Never" to the almost thrash "Psycho World," from the industrial-
strength reggae-rock of their take on the Scorpions' "Is There Anybody
There?" to the crunching funk-metal riffs of "Dark Room" -- a dozen
songs in all, guaranteed to get fists pumping and moshpits swirling,
with a couple of lighters-in-the-air, arm-around-your-girl moments in
between.
StarCity Recording Company was founded by Grammy-nominated producer
Jeff Glixman and partner Jim Gentile in July, 2005. They quickly added
Glixman's long-time associate Phil Ehart, founder and manager of rock
legends Kansas to head the Artist Development side of the company.
Orange Sky band members include brothers Nigel (guitars/vocals) and

TRENTON, N.J. -- The Fire, the Passion, The Soul ...
When Sun Records founder Sam Phillips first heard Howlin' Wolf sing,
he spoke the now famous words: "This is where the soul of man never
dies."
If Phillips had ever met Texas guitar great Chris Duarte he might have
been moved to offer a similar insight into the eternity of the blues,
Duarte's triumph over personal adversity and the firebrand passion to
which this blues-rock guitar master brings to his music.
In a celebrity-driven industry rife with Faustian deals served up to
the public via false advertising, Duarte has demonstrated that his
soul -- and his love of the blues -- is not for sale. When listening
to the Chris Duarte Band's new record, VANTAGE POINT (Blues Bureau/
Shrapnel), one senses Duarte's rejuvenated spirit, renewed creative
breadth, an ability to tap into the blues' timelessness, and Duarte's
rekindling of the youth exuberance he possessed during the making of
his breakthrough debut TEXAS SUGAR/STRAT MAGIK.
The very title (VANTAGE POINT) alludes to Duarte's newfound self-
awareness, his shedding of some bad personal habits, and his ability
to view life from a different perspective. "I think I'm playing better
than ever," claims Duarte. "Working with producer Mike Varney has
really opened my eyes to a lot of possibilities regarding melody and
what to listen for to make a good record even better."
Once pegged as a Stevie Ray Vaughan-abee, Duarte (a one-time longtime
Austin resident now living in Atlanta) has emerged as an artist (worn
Fender Stratocaster in hand) with his own, original kick-ass, stinging
guitar-playing style. For years the name Stevie Ray hung like an
albatross around Duarte's guitar's neck. VANTAGE POINT is not only
Duarte's most fresh-sounding disk in years but also unabashedly
acknowledges and embraces his longstanding influences.
"I don't deny my influences," says Duarte. "If people compare me to
Stevie Ray, well, to me that's a compliment. My Stevie Ray tendencies
are just one characteristic of my musical identity."
Expecting a blues artist to exist in a vacuum and not be influenced by
music around him is unrealistic. The blues (back before there even was
a formalized genre) has always been about building, borrowing and
creating one's own artistic voice within a tradition. So it is not
surprising that a dash of Stevie Ray mojo can still be found in
Duarte's inspired six-string acrobatics. But listen closely enough and
you'll also spot 'Trane, Bird, Zeppelin, Miles, John McLaughlin,
Albert King, Freddie King, Howlin' Wolf's Hubert Sumlin, and a host of
other artists.
Duarte sprinkles these influences across a baker's dozen of tracks
appearing on VANTAGE POINT: check the Robert Plant vocal wail/Jimmy
Page-Les Paul vibe of "Babylon"; the Hendrix-meets-Gov't. Mule-meets-
Mahavishnu Orchestra freak out guitar jams of "She Don't Live Here
Anymore"; and the jazzy, goofy, witty and ridiculous mood of
instrumental "Woodpecker," which could very well have been a recently
unearthed Dixie Dregs track from deep inside the Capricorn vaults.
Fittingly, the slow, major blues "Troubles On Me" not only references
Stevie Ray Vaughan's take on Albert King's version of the Elmore James
classic "The Sky Is Crying," but also the blues standard "Goin' Down
Slow" (specifically the 1961 Howlin' Wolf version, itself based on St.
Louis Jimmy Oden's 1941 song). Duarte adds his own poignant twist to
the soulful lyrics, which speak to his once turbulent personal life.
"The song is saying, 'Sorry, mom. I know this is not the life you
would have wanted for me,'" says Duarte.
A self-described child of the Beatles generation, Duarte first picked
up his brother's guitar when he was just 15 years old and learned the
Fab Four's tunes via guitar-chord tablature texts. After quitting
school at 16, Duarte moved from San Antonio, Texas, to Music City
U.S.A. (a.k.a. Austin, Texas) with a great musical potential and an
unchecked, naïve jazz "snobbishness."
"I was turning my nose up at it the blues, but when I did some serious
investigation, suddenly I'm asking myself, 'Why don't I sound like
that guy on the record?'" Duarte says.
Duarte worked his butt off through constant practice, soaking up as
much knowledge as he could from veteran blues cats, and pounding the
boards in venues throughout Austin (and greater Texas). He witnessed
the rise of Austin as a music Mecca; caught a young Stevie Ray Vaughan
at the Continental Club when the future blues-rock icon was still
finding his own voice; founded his own trio; and began playing 25
shows a month when fans and critics alike stood up and took notice.
Suddenly the Midwest and upper South were Duarte's breadbasket. He was
on the road constantly and cut such critically acclaimed records as
TEXAS SUGAR/STRAT MAGIK, TAILSPIN HEADWHACK and 2007's BLUE VELOCITY.
Duarte's excitement is palpable when speaking about VANTAGE POINT.
"There are some moments on VANTAGE POINT that hit me the same way as
TEXAS SUGAR," says Duarte. "I was a young player then, didn't have the
vocabulary I do now, but there is a certain vibe about the tracks --
then and now. I'm just really excited about and proud of this record."

Capturing a sound that manages to mix pop sensibility with a bone-
crushing groove, the five-man band Crushed should garner heaps of
crossover interest with their just-released EP, SHADOWS AND SUBSTANCE.
Hailing from the arid locale of Phoenix, Arizona, the group which
consists of singer/guitarist Mark Lauer, guitarist Mike Halland,
guitarist/keyboardist Harry McCaleb, bassist Paul Surra, and drummer
Jeff Garten, they caught the attention one of rock's most renowned
producers, Mike Clink, the man behind none other than Guns N' Roses'
APPETITE FOR DESTRUCTION, and other rock classics. "Crushed is a blend
of hard rock with melodic overtones, similar to a wolf in sheep's
clothing," explains Clink. "On their most recent effort, Crushed
exhibits how they have grown as a band and as accomplished
songwriters. SHADOWS AND SUBSTANCE is a reveling insight into the
exciting future of Crushed." This is the second Crushed recording
released under Clink's label, No Relief.
The EP is the culmination of songs the band recorded with Mike Clink
in Hollywood California and additional tracks recorded by up and
coming AZ producer, Larry Love.
"This is some of the band's best work," explains Halland. "You can
really hear the passion in Mark Lauer's voice and the great vibe we
captured in the studio with both Mike and Larry."
The six-track EP effectively captures "the Crushed sound" and the band
comes out swinging on the groove-heavy, "Distance Between Us." Next is
the first single and title track, "Shadows And Substance," a powerful
and moving track with a huge chorus. Returning to the Crushed groove
with "Sky Is Curved," another track with a chorus reminiscent of
Robert Plant. The next track is a cover of the song "Reptile" by The
Church, a great song that Crushed managed to make all their own. Next
is the Mike Clink produced track "Slowly Unwinding," recorded at
Mike's studio, Sound Instinct in North Hollywood. This is probably the
most unique track from the six song EP. The verse is mesmerizing and
bluesy with a catchy chorus and the unmistakable Crushed groove. The
final track is a Clink produced cover of "Love My Way" by the
Psychedelic Furs. A huge hit in its day, Crushed has managed to add a
unique touch to the song and with its release will undoubtedly attract
new fans.
Having built a solid following in the Arizona region, the group is
itching to bring the songs from SHADOWS AND SUBSTANCE to life on
concert stages throughout the world.
Halland admits "We have had our share of ups and downs but we are very
excited about bringing this record to the people."

LONDON, UK -- Eternal Descent's Llexi Leon has managed to secure yet

Ernie Ball. Leon, an Incendium Records recording artist performing
goth/industrial/metal music, began using Ernie Ball products at an
early age, and he now endorses the product.
"I remember first buying a pack of Ernie Ball strings at 13 years
old," Leon reminisces. "I didn't know what I was getting, but the neon
packaging really stood out. As it happens, I made a great choice.
Years later, I always turn to Ernie Ball sets to get great playability
and consistent reliable tone. For my baritone guitars, there is
something about the 12-56 sets that just sounds absolutely huge, but
still has that slinky feel for slides and bends, the other brands just
feel stiff in comparison. For everything else, I've been tearing it up
on the 10-52 sets in Eb, which I find a prefect balance between
crushing riffs and scorching leads. The Ernie Ball brand also has a
unique visual aesthetic, with bright colours and killer inked designs,

Llexi Leon, the mastermind behind the multimedia concept Eternal
Descent began making noise in London, England in 2005. His highly
intricate guitar style exhibits the many influences corralled to
create his intense sound -- from classical, flamenco, electronica, and
ambient genres to the more prominent genres of rock and metal. All of
these genres infused to one, Leon has created a cinematic fantasia
with a gothic flair, which will soon branch out to a comic book
series.
Leon began playing classical guitar at 8 years old and progressed to
electric guitar at 13, the now-22-year-old has continued to broaden
his horizons. Leon has since studied piano, violin, and percussion,
adding diversity to his instrumental performances, whilst continuing
to embrace new guitar techniques.
Leon began incorporating original music with art and writing ideas,
soon realizing he had to bring the concept to life. His main
aspirations are bringing stories to life through escapism, utilizing
everyday events and his vivid imagination to create more avenues for
his multimedia enterprise. To prove its tangibility, Leon has
assembled a team of artists to create the Eternal Descent comic book
series with the first issue slated for publication in early 2009. He
also began his own production company, Incendium Records to release
his first concept album LOSING FAITH and the EP THE PHANTOM OF THE
OPERA. This fulfilled his desire to have all Eternal Descent media
developed to the highest standards, under one roof.
Having grown significantly over just a few short years, Incendium is
now working with major names in the music and comic book industries.
In 2009, Eternal Descent plans to expand globally in both areas.
Incendium is already working closely with ESP Guitars on several
exciting projects. Expect to see some custom signature guitars in the
comic books and some headlining recording artists performing on them
throughout the storylines. The possibility of these concepts could
crossover to real life.
Leon was also approached by Faith Guitars as an endorsee for their
products, and the two are working on a series of promotional
collaborations, video demonstrations, and custom acoustic instruments
for future Eternal Descent recordings.
Orange Amplifiers has also been an extremely supportive collaborator.
The have been creating and developing anything Leon requires for the
upcoming studio album, including an amplifier that doesn't look like
your typical Orange amp, but still has the trademark tones associated
with the brand. Orange-inspired designs will also be featured in the
comic book on backline and an occasional wall of cabinets.
And now Ernie Ball has jumped on board this successful project and has
quickly become a valuable team player.

Indonesian homeland, Slank is breaking out with its first worldwide
English language album, ANTHEM FOR THE BROKEN HEARTED.
Slank's decidedly Western sound has a broad appeal to lovers of pop
music with a rock edge. Its lyrics, however, draw from its Indonesian
foundation, focusing on the trials and tribulations of living in a
struggling, third-world country. The album's title, in fact, is not an
ode to the lovesick, but a reference to the Indonesian people.
"We come from a country where there are still injustices and
corruption occurring," said drummer Bimbim. "That's why there are many
broken hearted. But in this state we still have the faith and spirit
to put the anthem on, the anthem for the broken hearted."
After achieving momentous success at home, Slank now has its eyes set
on the rest of the world.
"We want to explore our new musical experiences, and we need to bring
our 'peace virus' to the world," said Bimbim. "We believe with music
we can change the world, and in English we can get wider attention."
Despite its 'music with a message,' Slank's main focus is creating
good old-fashioned catchy songs like "Devilinu" and "Drug Me Up."
Recorded in California while the band was holed up in Studio City,
ANTHEM FOR THE BROKEN HEARTED was produced with esteemed guitarist-
turned-producer Blues Saraceno.
Slank is prepared to support the release of ANTHEM FOR THE BROKEN
HEARTED with a U.S. tour this fall, though the dates will not be
Slank's first in America. The band has already had the chance to play
for audiences in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Virginia, and New York.
"Most of the audiences were great and very enthusiastic," Bimbim said.
"We met new people and friends, made new fans, and met old fans who
lived in the U.S. for long time and never had a chance to see Slank
live."
Undoubtedly, Slank will be recruiting plenty of new fans to be
"Slankers" as they experience its energetic live shows and listen to
its infectious album.

The third release from Swedish prog metalers Cloudscape finds the band
in top form, delivering a dozen excellent tracks featuring expertly
crafted melodies and crack musicianship. Every song is a winner, but
special mention must go to standouts such as the passionate "Darkest
Legacy," driving "Paid In Full," enchanting "The Silence Within," and
artful "Eyes Of Jealousy." Cloudscape still have a little ways to go
to develop a fully unique identity, as elements of Evergrey, Pagan's
Mind, Kamelot and Circus Maximus are evident in the arrangements, but
this will surely come in time. Bottom line is GLOBAL DRAMA is the best
Cloudscape yet, proving they have more than enough musicality and
creativity to be a major force on the prog metal scene. I think an
appearance at ProgPower USA is in order very soon!

Award winning guitarist Vernon Neilly assembled some stellar talent
for his tribute to Stevie Wonder, from guitarists well-known to us in
the metal world such as Greg Howe, Kiko Loureiro and Bill Hudson to
those who are more familiar to listeners of smooth jazz and pop,
including saxophonist Michael Paulo (Al Jarreau, Earth, Wind & Fire),
Juan Nelson (Ben Harper And The Innocent Criminals) and French
sensation U-NAM. Listening to this collection of covers reminds me of
how many great songs Stevie Wonder wrote, and all the big hits are
here, including "Boogie On Reggae Woman," "Sir Duke," "Isn't She
Lovely," and "Don't You Worry Bout A Thing." Those songs are the
highlights, but there is also a surprisingly good version of
"Superstitious" featuring some delightfully metalized solos from
former Cellador shredder Bill Hudson as well as a funked-up take on "I
Wish" with blazing lead courtesy of Kiko Loureiro. A couple of the
tracks get instrumental and vocal treatment making the package
slightly repetitive but otherwise a very well-done appreciation for
one of our greatest songwriters.

CIRCUS OF SOUND is the latest release from Chris Poland's excellent
fusion outfit Ohm: and clearly places them alongside the best the
genre has to offer. All kinds of cool flavors comprise CIRCUS OF
SOUND, including the humorous wah wah-drenched melody of "System Of A
Clown," the unpredictable twists of the title track, explosively funky
James Brown tribute "Mr. Brown" and thematically moving "Leap Of
Faith." Band mates Robertino Pagliari (bass) and Joel Taylor, Frank
Briggs and Kofi Baker (drums) are on fire throughout, and the
production is close to perfection. Those only familiar with Chris'
work in Megadeth and on his solo albums may need some time to get
acclimated to Ohm:, but drink deep and you'll find this brew quite
satisfying, as Chris is one of the most exciting and distinctive
guitarists on the scene today. Definitely headed for a spot on my
"Best Of 2008" list...
