-Johnny Winter Band To Sweden Rock Festival

If there is a living legend today, it would have to be Johnny Winter.
The man from Texas who turns 65 on February 23rd is known as music
history's most famous albino, but also and most importantly as one of
the most influential blues guitarists in the latter half of the 20th
century. Ever since his debut in 1969 he has represented vintage blues
-- not least his own personal hero Muddy Waters -- and sometimes
ventured into harder rocking domains, like on his biggest commercial
success JOHNNY WINTER AND LIVE (1970) with none other than Rick
Derringer on second guitar. Winter's latest album I'M A BLUESMAN
(2004) was nominated for a Grammy and proved that "the greatest white
blues guitarist of all times" was still a force to be reckoned with.
Marked by a tough life, Winter nowadays executes his live performances
sitting down -- something which does not weaken the intensity of his
playing in the least. Do not miss one of blues history's greatest on
his SRF-debut and only Swedish performance this year!

-Kreator Unleashes New Album & Announces North American Tour

SPV is proud to bring you our first release of 2009 -- HORDES OF CHAOS
from German metal legends Kreator!

As one of the architects of the original thrash metal revolution,
Kreator roared out of Essen, Germany and onto a burgeoning thrash
scene in the mid-'80s, delivering a string of all-time metal classics
(PLEASURE TO KILL, EXTREME AGGRESSION, etc.) in their wake. Quickly
developing a uniquely ferocious, off-the-rails style, the band became
a huge source of inspiration for countless soon-to-be metal musicians
around the planet and have remained one of the cornerstones of the
genre along with one of its most dedicated practitioners for over
twenty years.

With HORDES OF CHAOS (the follow-up to 2003's ultra-successful ENEMY
OF GOD), Kreator delivers ten tracks of pure unadulterated thrash
metal like only the true masters can. Long known for often
incorporating lyrics that confront political hypocrisy and inhumanity,
our current world climate provides a natural well of inspiration for
guitarist, vocalist and band leader Mille Petrozza. "The global
political situation has come apart at the seams. The Eastern and
Western Blocs no longer exists, today it's a case of dog eat dog."
Petrozza considers the album's furious finale (featuring the songs "To
The Afterborn," "Corpses Of Liberty," and "Demon Prince") "a warning
to the coming generation. Everybody has to go their own path in life
and should try not to buy into the propaganda lies that governments
feed us."

HORDES OF CHAOS was recorded at Berlin's Tritonus studios under the
direction of producer Moses Schneider. Schneider is renowned for his
fresh and exceptionally dynamic working methods with a variety of
cutting-edge, successful artists across Europe. "We consciously
decided on Moses as our producer for the live recording of the basic
tracks at the studio," Petrozza explains. "This was the first time
since PLEASURE TO KILL that we worked in this way. The new album is a
100% realistic reflection of Kreator's live qualities. Instead of
exploring every little detail to sterile perfection with the help of
computer technology, this time around we wanted to deliver as dynamic
a production as possible. There can be no doubt that we've achieved
our target in HORDES OF CHAOS." The album was mixed in London by Colin
Richardson (Slipknot, Bullet For My Valentine, Cradle Of Filth, etc.).

The HORDES OF CHAOS world tour kicks off in early 2009, with a six-
week trek across North America in place for April. Kreator will be
joined by fellow thrash metal pioneers Exodus in what will undoubtedly
be one of the premier metal events of 2009!

"The first year is actually the first half year as we started

new album GUITAR GANGSTERS AND CADILLAC BLOOD will be scheduled for

great jolt of electricity that will breath new life into the genre. We
need wait no longer. Like the musical mad scientist that he is,
Monster has combined technology and ingenuity to create an unworldly

Riga, gritty vocals by MadCoal, and the intense syncopation of guest

-My buddy Bill was raving the other day about a local Chicago band,
7th Heaven. They've been around forever and have several releases
available. Check 'em out at http://www.7thheavenband.com/ , where
you'll hear tons of streaming music. My buddy called them "more pop
rock than hard rock" and compared them favorably to Def Leppard, what
with the "layers and layers of vocals and soaring choruses" and all.

-You know, I *did* pick up Guns N' Roses' CHINESE DEMOCRACY the week
it came out but I haven't really formed an opinion yet. Why? Because
1) it is pretty dense and requires some serious listening, and 2) I
don't have time to devote to serious album listening anymore. <sigh> I
am getting old.

'Tis the season for Christmas CDs and here I get the honor of
reviewing a pretty good one. If you are a fan of Blackmore's Night's
previous releases this is a must have for your collection. There are
some great versions of Christmas classics on here given the full
Blackmore's Night folk rock treatment sung by the beautiful voice of
Candice Night. "Emmanuel," "Hark The Herald Angels Sing" and "We Three
Kings" are all done in stellar fashion. I can't say enough about how
beautiful and fluid Candice's voice sounds. She has one of the most
natural sounding voices and the words and melodies never sound forced.
Ritchie is a master composer and arranger, not to mention phenomenal
musician. These arrangements with the wide variety of instruments and
beautiful voices will bring much happiness and joy to your holiday
season. There is one song on here that really stands out and it's not
even a traditional Christmas song -- "Wish You Were Here" shows some
brilliant guitar work reminiscent of Ritchie's past...that old
Stratocaster still breathes. This is a great Christmas CD if you need
to accommodate an older, mellower crowd at holiday parties and
cranking up some Trans-Siberian Orchestra is not an option. It also
has a sense of romanticism to it and sets a very calming and easy
mood. If you are a fan of Blackmore's Night, pick this up, you won't
be disappointed.
