-Queensryche: New Concept Album AMERICAN SOLDIER Available March 31
From Atco

THE EYES OF A SOLDIER

Queensryche Salutes The Troops With AMERICAN SOLDIER

Concept Album Inspired By Veterans' Stories Examines The Consequences
Of War From The Soldiers' Perspective

Album Available March 31 From Atco/Rhino; U.S. Tour To Begin April 16
In Seattle

LOS ANGELES -- Queensryche envisions war through the eyes of a soldier
with the band's twelfth studio release, the epic concept album
AMERICAN SOLDIER. The ambitious album encompasses a dozen songs
inspired by numerous interviews with veterans conducted by Geoff Tate,
the group's singer and chief songwriter, who was intent on telling
their story using their words. After speaking with soldiers who served
in various conflicts -- from World War II to Iraq -- Tate turned their
firsthand experiences from the frontlines into an unflinching musical
examination of the life of a solider and the consequences of war.
AMERICAN SOLDIER will be available from Atco/Rhino on March 31 for a
suggested list price of $18.98 (CD) and $9.99 (digital).

Tate, Michael Wilton (guitar), Ed Jackson (bass) and Scott Rockenfield
(drums) recorded the album in 2008 over the course of nine months. The
idea for AMERICAN SOLDIER, Tate says, came from hearing stories from
fans that are veterans, as well as his own father, who served in both
Korea and Vietnam. "My father was a career military man, but until
very recently he never spoke about what he went through. I think that
reticence is true of a lot of veterans, which means most people never
truly understand what it means to be a soldier at war. Hearing what he
and some of our fans have endured made me want to share their stories
with the world. This is an album about the soldiers, for the soldiers,
as told by the soldiers themselves."

Those stories resonate at the heart of AMERICAN SOLDIER, imbuing each
song with vivid details about both the emotional and physical impacts
of war, evoking war zone battles ("Middle Of Hell"), sacrifice ("The
Killer"), loss ("If I Were King"), the longing for home ("Remember
Me"), and adjusting to society after returning from war ("Man Down!").

Tate recorded many of his interviews with the soldiers, and some
dialogue from these discussions is mixed into several of tracks,
allowing the soldiers' own words to help tell their compelling
stories. The band also brought a few of the soldiers into the studio
with them to record vocals. The verses of the track "Unafraid" feature
the voices of Chris Devine, a Vietnam veteran, and Sean Lenahan, a
veteran of Somalia, recalling their war experiences while Tate
provides the anthemic chorus. Also making a guest vocal appearance is
Tate's 10-year-old daughter Emily on the gripping duet "Home Again,"
which examines the emotional toll of war from two perspectives, with
Geoff singing from the soldier's point of view and his daughter
singing from the viewpoint of the child left behind.

Making the album, Tate says, was an enlightening process. "I was
surprised to learn how little has changed through the generations. I
spoke with a Vietnam vet whose experience wasn't all that different
from a soldier who fought in Somalia almost 30 years later. But what
surprised me the most was how antiwar most soldiers are. To me, that
makes their sacrifices even more moving."

Soon after the release of AMERICAN SOLDIER, Queensryche will launch an
extensive spring tour of the U.S., with international dates to follow
later in 2009. The shows will be presented in three suites, with the
band performing sets from AMERICAN SOLDIER, RAGE FOR ORDER, and
EMPIRE. The first date of the tour will be April 16 at Snoqualmie
Casino in the band's hometown of Seattle.

-Guitar Maestros Paul Gilbert, George Lynch And Richie Kotzen Perform
Three Exclusive Shows

The Guitar Generation Coming To Southern California

HOLLYWOOD, CA -- Get prepared for a musical extravaganza. Three big
shows, three big nights:

Wed - February 25 – House of Blues – San Diego, CA
Sat – February 28 – House of Blues – Los Angeles, CA
Mon – March 02 – House of Blues – Anaheim, CA

These three masters of the electric guitar will bring their unique
styles, best songs, and most inspired solos to you LIVE. Each will
have their own 45 minute set accompanied by their band, followed by an
unforgettable encore jam with all three guitarists onstage at one
time! Every show will rock, inspire your imagination, celebrate and
remind you all why we are all part of... The Guitar Generation.

Paul Gilbert:

Paul Gilbert burst onto the guitar scene with his band Racer X when he
was only 19. His astonishing technical prowess and imaginative use of
the Makita power drill instantly gained him a reputation as a Founding
Father of Shred Guitar. Paul went on to form "super-group" Mr. Big and
enjoyed No. 1 chart success and massive world tours. Paul has also
released over 10 solo CDs, and his legendary instructional DVDs are
revered as the best in the business.

Known for his extreme virtuoso on-stage playing, passionate
musicality, and quick "tongue in cheek" wit, Paul's live performances
have become legendary. In the past year, he toured with G3 (featuring
Joe Satriani and John Petrucci) and also supported Satriani on a sold-
out U.K. tour.

Paul had such a remarkable time on the G3 Tour that he was eager to
get back to the U.S.A. and create a stunning and unique show featuring
his two impeccable fellow guitarist friends, George Lynch and Richie
Kotzen...and the Guitar Generation Tour was born!

George Lynch:

Inventing, re-inventing and pushing the limits of rock guitar is the
lifelong pursuit of guitarist George Lynch. From his work with
Exciter, Dokken, Lynch Mob his new band, Souls Of We, George is
revered as one of the most influential rock guitarists of all time.
George has also designed a new line of guitar products that give
guitarists around the world the opportunity and capability to push
their own limits.

With a career that spans nearly 30 years, George is one of a long line
of guitarists to come from the California hard rock world. But one
distinction that separates him from the rest of the pack is that he
remains to be musically relevant. For some, success was fleeting but
none have left their indelible mark like Lynch has. He has survived
the shortcomings of the tangled music business and the changing tides
in musical trends.

Much of George Lynch's success is credited to guitarmanship; however
his song writing helped propel five highly successful Dokken albums
from 1983 to 1988 to the top of the charts and won him recognition as
one of the most influential rock guitarists in modern music. Another
distinction that separates him from others of this genre is that his
guitar playing earned Dokken a Grammy nomination in 1989 for Best Rock
Instrumental for the now legendary, "Mr. Scary." With the new decade
came a different George Lynch in the 1990s. A bolder stylist and more
knowledgeable guitarist was found in him as he formed the band Lynch
Mob. Recording two albums and going back on the road to support them
kept Lynch in the public eye and garnered him rave reviews. But he was
yearning for a further approach to the guitar. While still promoting
his work with Lynch Mob, he began work on a solo endeavor titled
SACRED GROOVE, which demonstrated Lynch's capacity to display
different musical and guitar styles.

Lynch will always be creatively busy while constantly evolving as a
musician. As Lynch continues to broaden his musical scope, he will
continue to influence fans for years to come as a player and song
writer who is always on top of his game!

Richie Kotzen:

Richie Kotzen erupted onto the music scene as a guitar virtuoso at age
17. He recorded his first solo album on Shrapnel Records with four
more solo albums to follow. By 19 Kotzen was approached by glam metal
band Poison in which he wrote the #4 MTV Video and top 20 Billboard
hit "Stand" on the NATIVE TONGUE album hitting platinum status soon
thereafter. After Poison, Kotzen continued recording on various labels
including Geffen, Shrapnel and JVC and joined a stint with famed
bassist Stanley Clarke. Later that year Kotzen joined Mr. Big -- best
known for their #1 hit song "To Be With You" -- stepping in for shred
guitar guru Paul Gilbert.

Known for his soulful singing and captivating stage shows, Kotzen
continues to solo on massive world tours. Kotzen's popularity has
grown to astronomical proportions in over seven countries, where he
regularly tours, landing him the opening slot as the opening act for
the legendary Rolling Stones' A BIGGER BANG tour in Japan.

Kotzen has released 17 solo albums, nine collaborative/band albums, an
instructional and home DVD landing him to the top of a multi-platinum
career.

By invitation, Kotzen joined Paul Gilbert on stage at the House Of
Blues on the Sunset Strip, where they tore down the house separately
and collectively for an encore that proved big guitars and virtuoso
players still rule the rock stage. In excitement to repeat this
amazing synergy Kotzen accepted to join fellow guitarists and friends,
Paul Gilbert and George Lynch for The Guitar Generation!

-Vision's THE OTHER SIDE OF GREY To Be Released On Lake Of Fire
Records February 24, 2009

THE OTHER SIDE OF GREY has been a long time coming for the loyal fans
of Chicago based Vision. Composer/guitarist/keyboardist Sean P.
Gahgan, along with the one they call Nefarious (vocals), have crafted
an incredibly diverse collection of songs that spread the musical
gamut from up tempo in-your-face metal, to melodic gut wrenching rock,
to beautifully arranged acoustic pieces and everything in between.
These compelling musical arrangements are all capped off by the
incredible vocal range of Nefarious. Whether it's four-part harmonies,
holding notes for 30+ seconds or simply leaving the listener with a
haunting melody in their head, Nefarious is a presence the musical
world has not heard the likes of since Rob Halford, Geoff Tate, and
King Diamond. The band is rounded out by drummer Alex Kai and bass
player Azrael, the latter of whom also produced the CD. THE OTHER SIDE
OF GREY is exclusively available at cdbaby.com. The band is gearing up
for a summer tour and pre-production has already begun on their next
release scheduled for early 2010.

-Lion Music Update

2008 REVIEW AND 2009 OUTLOOK FROM LION MUSIC PRESIDENT LARS ERIC
MATTSSON

Another year has passed and we have released another 29 titles (of
which eight are reissues/compilations) and many of these are probably
our best releases to date. We have had the pleasure of signing artists
such as Jennifer Batten as well as seen artists such as Seventh Wonder
and Tomorrow's Eve reach a new level with their latests efforts. Marco
Sfogli's debut album THERE'S HOPE and Seventh Wonder's third opus
MERCY FALLS have been received very well amongst music fans worldwide.
The music business is going through its most difficult time ever, many
companies are going down and the current economic worldwide recession
is not exactly helping but we do want to carry on the flame also in
2009. As long as there are enough honest music fans out there
interested in what we do we do not see a reason why we should not
continue. We are proud to be able to bring you new releases from
Miosis, George Bellas, Tony Hernando, astra, Ashent, Strings 24, Joe
Stump, Master Castle, Iron Mask, Sun Caged and many more in 2009.
- Lars Eric Mattsson, Lion Music President

NEW RELEASES OUT TODAY

MIOSIS - ALBEDO ADAPTATION

Sweden who have been gaining a strong reputation with live music fans
in Sweden along with a more international following due to very
positive reviews of a self released EP. With their debut release
ALBEDO ADAPTATION, Miosis offer seven tracks of music that is both
modern and classic at the same time.

GEORGE BELLAS - STEP INTO THE FUTURE

The ever prolific George Bellas is back, less than a year on from his
previous solo album PLANETARY ALIGNMENT with his boldest and most
progressive body of work to date in STEP INTO THE FUTURE. The name
George Bellas is synonymous with stretching musical boundaries and
human imagination with his musical compositions. This new album is
ultra-modern in style and really reaches out to a futuristic sound in
its compositional sense and outlook. The album ranges from the
explosive to the ethereal with emotionally stirring segments. Adding
to its uniqueness STEP INTO THE FUTURE consists of just one song that
is 76 minutes in length.

atmospheres. Each song has its own distinct style with a mix of huge
riffs, great variety of tempo, persuasive harmonies, great melodies
and shredding arrangements.

Essentially Ashent represents the darkest and heaviest side of
progressive metal, sharing dramatic and intense emotions with the
intimacy of an inner journey, all wrapped in a modern musical and
lyrical language.

UPCOMING RELEASE - ASTRA / FROM WITHIN

Released - February 20th 2009
Catalogue - LMC257 / EAN6419922002575

One of the front runners of the Italian progressive metal scene, Astra
mark their first release for Lion Music with the dazzling FROM WITHIN.

Best described as a mixture of Symphony X, Vanden Plas, early Dream
Theater and Queen crossed with some AOR touches; the new album sees
Astra delivering an album of high quality from start to finish with a
strong accessible punch to the music on offer.

Having made a good impression with press worldwide with their debut
album ABOUT ME: THROUGH LIFE AND BEYOND (Burning Star Records) the
band have honed their style for FROM WITHIN and look set to reach out
to a wider audience of prog metal fans worldwide.

Possessing a more straightforward progressive metal sound, 10 tracks
of musically rich and melodically full metal, FROM WITHIN is ultra
powerful in song structure and musicianship all enhanced by an
excellent production.

The creation of FROM WITHIN began in late Dec 2007 with jams done by
Titta (on the drums), Emanuele, Silvio and Andrea. Filippo then joined
the band for a week and gave his help to create some tunes and
finished other songs. A lot of pre-production was made and with the
help of internet all the vocals line and keyboard parts were ready
five months before the recording sessions. The recording sessions ran
from February – March 2008 and the mixing sessions finalised the album
in September-October 2008 all being finalised with the release of FROM
WITHIN on February 20th 2009.

To sum up FROM WITHIN is accessible, catchy and impressive as hell.

BAND HISTORY
Astra started back in 2001 in Rome as an instrumental project. At the
time a four-piece three of which (keyboard, bass and guitar players)
are still are in the current lineup. After several lineup changes they
reached the current lineup: Titta Tani (main vocals), Emanuele Casali
(keyboards and chorus), Andrea Casali (bass and chorus), Silvio
D'Onorio De Meo (guitars) and Filippo Berlini (drums). Titta Tani is
also known as the drummer of Death Metal acts Necrophagia and Daemonia
and is one of the most well know metal session musicians in Italy and
he divides his career as a vocalist and as a drummer and is also a
former member of DGM.

May 2002 saw the band win the first Italian Official Dream Theater
Tribute Band Contest as undertaking a tour of Italy's clubs. They also
performed featuring Dream Theater keybordist Jordan Rudess at the
Italian Dream Theater fan club's 10-year party. In December 2005 Astra
signed for Burning Star Records and got back to the studio to record
their debut. In August 2006 Burning Star Records released ABOUT ME:
THROUGH LIFE AND BEYOND which was well received from press worldwide.
Now the Astra are back and completed the writing, recording and mixing
of their new album FROM WITHIN that will released on February 20th
2009 through Lion Music.

-Lion's Share: New Album Artwork Unveiled

Swedish melodic heavy metal masters Lion's Share has unveiled the
cover art for its upcoming sixth full-length album, DARK HOURS.

Lion's Share will release its new album in late March 2009 via
Blistering Records. The follow-up to 2007's EMOTIONAL COMA was mixed
and mastered by Jens Bogren (Opeth, Symphony X, Paradise Lost, Amon
Amarth) and features guest appearances by Symphony X guitarist Mike
Romeo (guest solo on "Behind The Curtain"), and drummers Conny
Pettersson (from Earache Records death metal act Anata) and Richard
Evensand (Chimaira, Soilwork).

DARK HOURS track listing:

1. Judas Must Die
2. Phantom Rider
3. Demon In Your Mind
4. Heavy Cross To Bear
5. The Bottomless Pit
6. Full Metal Jacket
7. The Presidio 27
8. Barker Ranch
9. Napalm Nights
10. Space Scam
11. Behind The Curtain
12. King Of All The Kings (bonus track – limited-edition digi-pak and
Japanese version)

The band states: "The new songs are simply awesome and everybody that
has heard it thinks it's our best album to date. The red thread lyric-
wise on this album is that all songs are about things that happened in
the late Sixties; a decade known for many good things. However, we're
not describing the happy times of the Sixties: We give you the 'Dark
Hours.' Musically, it's more straightforward and faster than ever. The
songs are filled with energy and great hooks."

Lion's Share's most recent album, EMOTIONAL COMA, was released in the
U.S. January 29th, via Locomotive Music. The CD was issued by AFM
Records in Europe and Spiritual Beast in Japan/Asia and features guest
solos from ex-Kiss guitarist Bruce Kulick, and ex-Megadeth guitarist
Glen Drover.

Leaves' Eyes and Atrocity drummer Seven Antonopoulos at NAMM 2009

"Hello everyone! I wanted to drop a few lines about our NAMM
adventures. As most of you are probably awere, The NAMM Convention is
the largest trade/expo show here in the United States. But, more than
that it's a great excuse for muscians to hang out, drink excessive
amounts of whisky and interact with fans! Thursday night we went to
see Simon Phillips at the Hyatt hotel. I ended up doing shots with a
couple crazy Germans go figure: Chris Koch my European Sabian rep and
Christoph Schneider/Rammstein. Needless to say, we had a blast while
Johnny Tempesta/The Cult and Charlie Benante/Anthrax brought down the
house. So, Friday it was myself, Christoph/Rammstein and Shawn/
Megadeth at Vic Firth. Many thanks to Marco (The master of the grappa)
for having us! Christoph, Shawn and I are really good friends and it's
always cool hanging out for 'official business'! That night was the
Sabian event Jojo Mayer played, always a real treat to see him play.
Really inspiring! That brings us to Saturday, and a pretty good size
hangover! I was at the Sabian booth with a gang of shredders as well
as good friends. Myself, Ray/Korn, Xavier/BuckCherry, Shawn/Megadeth.
Ray and I did a drum clinic tour together for Sabian last November.
He's one of my favorite players. As always a Huge thank you to Chris
Stankee and everyone at Sabian for a killer time! I'd also like to
thank Vega, Garrison, Donell and all at D W drums! (Special thanks,
Vega getting me to my room Thursday night!) In addition, Chris Brady
and all at Aquarian drumheads! This was an Awesome NAMM and again
thanks to all my endorsers for taking care of me all year long!
Nothin' but the best!"

Holy Moses / Obituary runners up for Metalblog 2008 Concert of the
Year...

Here is what Metalblog said:

Obituary/ Holy Moses - ULU, London 03/02/08

The all too rare U.K. appearance of Holy Moses as opening act for
Obituary is what brings this gig into my top 3 for 2008. Sure,
Obituary are legends of Florida death metal, but Holy Moses are also
legends -- of German thrash metal. I was on the barrier for the whole
of Holy Moses' set and it was one of the best sets I saw from any band
in 2008. Obituary weren't too shabby either...

started the label with a, then, little known band called Prayer For
Cleansing and the rest is history.

Thanks to everyone who has continued to support our little venture
throughout the years. We are excited for all that is to come this year
and beyond!

Tribunal Records 100 Taking Shape

We will have our 100th release out this summer. If you haven't heard
it will be a compilation release of Tribunal artists doing some of
their favorite cover songs. Bands on board so far are the following
with several more still left to submit their tracks.

We are very excited to see how this release shapes up in the end.
There are some more cool ideas being tossed around by bands so we will
see if they can deliver the goods!

New Releases/CD Only Bonus Tracks

We are currently finalizing the first batch of releases for 2009. They
will begin surfacing in March. It may seem we are very inactive at the
moment, but we promise we are getting everything in order for a kick
ass year in metal, hardcore and rock.

Also, something new this year we are going to try and push on everyone
is getting back to buying "CDs." Yes, we understand everyone is going
the way of digital downloading but we here at Tribunal Records
remember the days of collecting vinyl and our office is filled with
thousands of CDs along with those long lost LPs framed on our walls.

We refuse to let the days of having a CD collection die, so we are
attempting (whenever possible) to offer CD ONLY bonus tracks for all
our upcoming releases. Yes, not "digital download only" but rather
when you buy a CD from us you will get extra songs NOT AVAILABLE to
people who want to download our albums.

We are making our stand, please join us.

Line Of Fire Pushes On With Album

Line Of Fire have had so many setbacks and roadblocks while working on
their follow-up to the critically acclaimed debut album that we
weren't sure if it would ever see the light of day.

We are happy to say that the band will be holed up here in the
Tribunal offices this weekend with Thomas of Jonin to complete the
tracking of the album. We hope to have it out this summer as well as
the re-release of the debut album with newly re-mixed audio and bonus
tracks!!

If you dig bands like Journey, FireHouse and Def Leppard be sure to
give their amazing track "Paradise" a listen HERE:

Did You Know?

Line Of Fire vocalist, Shawn Pelata, is also the melodic voice (a.k.a.
Dr. Extremus Melodicus) heard on Killwhitneydead's classic tracks "She
Didn't Look Like She Had A Disease" and "Put Your Mouth Where The
Money Is."

-Les Claypool To Embark On "The Oddity Faire: A Mutated Mini Fest"
Tour In Support Of Latest Masterpiece OF FUNGI AND FOE

HOLLYWOOD, CA -- Les Claypool will embark on the "The Oddity Faire: A
Mutated Mini Fest" tour and will take over North America starting
March 4, 2009. This tour is in support of yet another brilliant work
of art, OF FUNGI AND FOE releasing March 17, 2009 on Prawn Song
Records.

OF FUNGI AND FOE is the expansion of material Claypool has recorded
over the past few years for the video game "Mushroom Men" and the
motion picture "Pig Hunt." Being inspired by these two projects
Claypool decided to keep creating and turn it into an album. The song
"Mushroom Men" on this release is a more in-depth version of the theme
song from the video game. Additionally a jam session with Gogol
Bordello's charismatic front man Eugene Hutz turned into the track
"Bite Out Of Life." The band is comprised of Les Claypool on bass/
vocals, Paulo Baldi on Drums (Cake), Mike Dillon on Percussion (Ani
Difranco), and Sam Bass on Cello (Deadweight).

A Note From Les Claypool:

Having trod the stages of such events as Lollapalooza, Woodstock 94,
Redding, Bonnaroo, Ozzfest, etc. I've come to realize that there
really hasn't been an event that truly represents the type of
idiosyncratic performers that I am kin to. In my youth I was always
scouring the radio, clubs, record stores and concert halls for that
group or individual that had new and unique perspectives to music. The
freaks.

THE ODDITY FAIRE: A MUTATED MINI-FEST, is just the event where one
will encounter such diverse and unique artists. The notion of the
festival is to bring together folks that naturally dwell outside the
box so that they may perform before a collective audience that is
looking for something that hasn't been cultivated by "American Idol"
or crammed down their throats by the Disney Corporation.

THE ODDITY FAIRE: A MUTATED MINI-FEST is a multi-medium event that
will play in intimate environments around the country. The musicians
and performers will rotate from region to region. Importantly, the
ticket price for a three-four hour event will be well within reason
given the current state of the economy.

THE ODDITY FAIRE: A MUTATED MINI FEST, a "brain-candy bargain for a
recessed age," promises to be a smorgasbord of irregular and
unconventional entertainment for all.

Come on down,
Les Claypool

The Thursday night pre-party will be a unique event combining film and
music. The party will kick off with a screening of official film
sponsor Anchor Bay's film "Crowley," co-written by none other than
Iron Maiden vocalist Bruce Dickinson. The provocative supernatural
thriller is the tale of a virtual reality experiment gone wrong,
sending the soul of the British occultist Aleister Crowley into the
body of a shy university professor. But even as Crowley creates all-
new orgies of depraved pleasures and black magic, he is now preparing
to unleash the ultimate occult event upon the world.

Also showing is "Anvil! The Story Of Anvil," a sometimes revealing,
sometimes hilarious documentary about the legendary Canadian metal
band. The movie follows best friends Robb Reiner and Lips ad they make
a pact to rock together forever. Their band, Anvil, hailed as the
"demi-gods of Canadian metal," influenced a musical generation that
includes Metallica, Slayer, and Anthrax, despite never hitting the big
time. Following a calamitous European tour, Lips and Robb, now in
their fifties, set off to record their 13th album in one last attempt
to fulfill their boyhood dreams. The film will be followed by a
performance by the band itself.

The pre-party will also be held at the Palladium. Admission is free
with a weekend pass or $15 for non-ticket holders. Atticus is the
official sponsor of the pre-party.

Prices this year are $40 for Friday, $45 for Saturday or $79 for a
two-day ticket that also includes free admission to the kick off party
on Thursday. Tickets will be available at all Strawberries, FYE
Stores, online at Tickets.com or by calling (800) 477-6849. Tickets
are available now online and will go on sale through the other outlets
this Saturday.

Monster Energy is official energy drink of the festival. All In Merch
and 518 Prints are the official merchandise company of the festival.
Other sponsors include Mazur Public Relations, The Syndicate, Heavy
Hitter, Rock And Shock, and Roadrunner Records.

-Sacred Oath Launch New Web Site

SACRED OATH, the self-titled third studio album from the legendary
cult power metal band, was produced and engineered by Rob Thorne at
his studio Angel Thorne Music in Connecticut.

Says Thorne, "We wrote, tracked, and mixed this record in 12 weeks,
about one-fifth the time we spent with DARKNESS VISIBLE. The band is
just on fire, riding on the high we experienced with the successful
tour and the release of the live disc."

The lineup is in fact the same that appears on the live album 'TILL
DEATH DO US PART (2008) -- Kenny Evans on drums, Bill Smith on guitar,
Scott Waite on bass, and Rob Thorne on vocals and guitar. There are 10
songs on the new disc. Thorne, who has been the primary songwriter in
the band from the beginning, wrote nine and co-wrote the tenth with
Evans.

Songs are as follows:

Paradise Lost
Blood Storm
Voodoo Dolls
Buried Alive
Counting Zeros
Caught In The Arc
High And Mighty
Sacred Oath
Scourge Of Sin
Hunt For The Fallen Angel

Running time on the disc is about 50 minutes. Favorite track on the
album? "Ooooh," says Thorne, "I love so many tracks on this disc, but
I'd have to say 'Counting Zeros' is my choice TODAY (laughs). We've
always been a concept-oriented band, and that song really sums up the
lyrical theme of this record."

When pressed on whether this is a concept-album, Thorne smiles. "Two
powers could be at it again."

The band is giving away a free download of the first single from the
new album -- "Blood Storm." Simply register at
http://www.sacredoath.net/ .

The album was mastered by Alan Douches at West West Side Music in New
York and the graphic design and artwork was handled by Ioannis for
Vivid Images Creative.

Publicity for the band is being handled by Chip Ruggieri for Chipster
PR, and Dan Russo is on board as managing consultant for the band.

Global release dates and support tour spring/summer 2009 to be
announced soon.

-Nashville Pussy

They're back to kick your ass!

For over a decade, Nashville Pussy has been bringing the fire and
spirit of REAL rock n' roll to stages all across the planet. With four
acclaimed full-lengths and a Grammy nomination in tow, the band has
honed their most impressive recording to date in the form of FROM HELL
TO TEXAS.

Indeed, FROM HELL TO TEXAS stacks up perfectly against other masterful
'Pussy classics such as LET THEM EAT PUSSY and HIGH AS HELL. As
always, Ruyter Suys' spectacular axe-work is front and center,
breathing even more whiskey-fueled passion into husband Blaine
Cartwright's creations, with burners such as "I'm So High," "Drunk
Driving Man," and "Pray For The Devil" leading the charge. The album
was recorded at Willie Nelson's Pedernales Studio in Texas on the
same
two-inch tape machine which Willie himself has used to cut all of his
legendary albums.

In the past year, they've continued to cement their reputation as one
of the hardest working bands in the world, with tours of Australia,
Brazil, Japan, Europe and most recently almost a year straight with
the Reverend Horton Heat all over North America. All the while, band
mastermind Cartwright (vocals, guitar), Ruyter Suys (guitar), Karen
Cuda (bass) and Jeremy Thompson (drums) spent three years working on
the release. "We allowed ourselves this time to give the songs the
chance to turn out as perfect as possible," Cartwright explains.

2009 will be another ambitious year for Nashville Pussy. Along with
the March 3rd release of the new album, the band's roadmap is already
set: an exhaustive trek across Europe, followed by summer festivals
and full-scale North American tour. The rock never stops. Bottom line,
Nashville Pussy is the genuine article. Accept no substitute!

Z Rock 09 Update

Dear Friends,

As Z Rock 09 looms ever closer I thought it wise to bring you all up
to date. So far we are on schedule with everything but obviously we
have concerns regarding the economic situation here in the U.K. The
next six weeks are very important, we know that we have to sell 100
tickets for the 30th and 50 for the 29th to keep everything inline.
Whilst we know many of you maybe finding times a little harder than
back in 2008, we hope that those wishing to attend purchase their
tickets before March 22nd. It helps us if you buy direct by either
using the PayPal address zrockagency@... or buying form the
sites below. If you prefer to send a cheque please e-mail or call and
we will send the details to you.

Z Rock 09 is our strongest lineup to date and our 10th anniversary
show, who would believe that it's 10 years since out first outing.
Plans are already being made for 2010 but that all depends on the
outcome of May's show.

Just a reminder of the excellent lineup that we have...

MAY 29TH: [tickets £30.00]

WIG WAM

-The Trews Earn Two Juno Award Nominations, Prepare April 7th U.S.
Release Of Blockbuster NO TIME FOR LATER Release

The Trews continue to solidify their standing as one of Canada's most
popular and successful rock bands, as evidenced by two nominations for
the 2009 Juno Music Awards -- for Best Group and Best Rock Album. The
group -- which includes vocalist Colin MacDonald, guitarist John-Angus
MacDonald, bassist Jack Syperek, and drummer Sean Dalton -- is
preparing a U.S. release of April 7, 2009 (Bumstead / MRV / Set-Up)
for the album that is up for the aforementioned award, NO TIME FOR
LATER, and its lead-off single, "Paranoid Freak."

"We just found out this morning that we are nominated for two Juno
awards," enthuses Colin MacDonald. "We are thrilled with this news,
we've always been very proud of this album and we're very happy that
it's getting recognized." The Nova Scotia conceived and Toronto-based
group has also earned nominations at the 2005 and 2004 Juno Awards, in
addition to winning the 2008 Best Hard Rock Song in the 8th Annual
Independent Music Awards and the 2007 Favorite Rock Artist & Group of
the Year at the 2007 Indie Awards, plus being nominated for 2006's
Best New Band by SPIN.com.

Additionally, accolades from others continue to pour in. Kindah Mardam
Bey at AnE Vibe described NO TIME FOR LATER as being "Jam packed with
brilliant tracks set for the charts -- when rock music is this good,
even I could listen to it all day," the Calgary Sun called the album
"A regular masterpiece of rock n' roll," while Creative Loafing raved,
"Exciting, brash crunch rockers who connect like prime Humble Pie."

With their homeland already conquered, the group has their sights set
on spreading the word throughout the U.S., as evidenced by a message
from the band specifically to their stateside admirers. "We're very
proud of this album and we can't wait to share it with our American
fans. We hope you will like this album as much as we do!"

-Joetown Moving Forward In '09, Issues NAMM Recap And Campaign Update

With accolades still pouring in from his hard-hitting studio album
from last year, PILLS AND AMMO, one-man metal machine Joetown
continues to spread the word, as he recently spent a memorable day at
the NAMM convention. Highlights of his visit would be when Joetown
jammed onstage for the Behringer 20th anniversary party, along with
such rock legends as Chris Slade (AC/DC, The Firm), Kip Winger
(Winger), Earl Slick (John Lennon, David Bowie), Bruce Kulick (Kiss),
and Mark Hudson (Aerosmith producer, Rock 'n' Roll Fantasy Camp).

"Those guys kinda flipped," recalls Joetown. "Mark Hudson stopped the
show and said that I was an exceptional singer and could share the
stage with those guys any day, anywhere. Chris Slade also said that I
should be aware that it is rare to have such vocal ability and range
-- this is from a guy that played with Paul Rodgers and Brian
Johnson!" As a result of this killer jam, Joetown was invited to jam
at the next Rock 'n' Roll Fantasy Camp in Hollywood, coming up in late
April.

And if that wasn't enough, Joetown got to meet one of his guitar
heroes up close at NAMM. "Met and talked for a while with Robbie
Kreiger, legendary guitarist for the Doors. We plugged into a few of
the Bugera amps and discussed his classic tone, trading the guitar
back and forth until he played classic riffs like 'Roadhouse Blues'
and 'Backdoor Man.' Kinda mind-boggling to hear those riffs played
right in front of you -- the Doors had a huge influence on me."

Both experiences would probably be enough for any red blood American
metal musician, but Joetown is not your average shredder. He also
performed songs from PILLS AND AMMO to a packed room at the Bugera
Amplifier Booth daily, attended the Artist Relations.com private NAMM
pre-show event, which is a special showing of gear to select artists
for endorsement purposes. As a result, Joetown will be exclusively
supporting products from the following companies: N-Tune onboard
guitar tuning system, Seymour Duncan Pickups JB model, Quarter Pounder
(Strat/Tele), Quarter Pounder Bassline, Dean Markley Stage Tuner, and
BREVERB modeling reverb plug-in for Protools. All this activity would
leave anyone parched, so Joetown wound up wetting his whistle -- by
drinking Jägermeister with Gwar!

That said, PILLS AND AMMO is still very much creating a buzz on the
streets, as it has reached #7 Most Added (with 21 Adds) on FMQB, and
#6 Most Added (with 50 Adds) on CMJ.

And on the retail front, expect to see Joetown in the FYE chain racks
this month throughout the U.S. Northeast.

-Carbon 9 Update

Video For "Mother" Posted On YouTube

From Forthcoming THE BULL Release Due 2/24 Via Digital And 3/10 At All
Physical Retailers

Los Angeles' Carbon 9 have released their new video, for their cover
of the Danzig track "Mother." The clip, directed by Mat Milani and
Carbon 9, and edited by Mat Milani, can be viewed at
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jHOcDPdglP8 .

Freshly signed to WorldSound Music, it shouldn't be long before Carbon
9 is launched upon an unsuspecting world -- especially after hearing
their latest release, THE BULL. Mixed by Frank Gryner (Rob Zombie,
Perfect Circle, Tommy Lee, etc.) THE BULL manages to balance electro
rock sounds with strong pop melodies and anthemic choruses --
resulting in a sound that sounds custom-made for crossover success.

Comprised of members Stacey Quinealty (vocals and sequencing), Danny
Cistone (backing vocals), Darwin DeVitis (guitars and vocals), Omar D.
Brancato (bass and vocals), and Matty Milani (drums), Carbon 9 has
already made numerous impressive inroads into the music industry,
including their music appearing on XM Radio and commercials.

Also, the band has received rave reviews from L.A. Alive ("I have seen
the future of rock, and it is Carbon 9"), Music Connection ("The music
is so overwhelming no one is spared"), and KNAC.com ("Carbon 9 craft
memorable songs while still keeping the head-throbbing beats"), and
has headlined such renowned clubs as the Whisky A-Go-Go, the Viper
Room, the Roxy, and the Troubadour, among others.

But it's the numbers that speak loudest -- the group has sold over
5,000 copies of their earlier releases, while their MySpace page has
over 14,000 friends signed up.

If you're still unsure, just check out the handful of songs from THE
BULL that are currently posted on Carbon 9's label page for the proof
-- including such originals as "My Friend" (a song that according to
Stacey is "Directly about that one person that constantly stabs you in
the back yet we continue to keep them close within the circle"),
"Somebody Like Me" (which is "A very egocentric song that states the
fact that we need a significant other but usually demand someone to
follow our ways and do as we do"), and the title track ("It is about
the strength in belief of the self"), as well as a rockin' version of
the Danzig classic, "Mother" ("This was our first cover song to ever
record and we chose it very carefully").

While they've often been noted as the "hardest working band in L.A.,"
with the arrival of THE BULL, perhaps a more fitting description of
Carbon 9 is the "hardest rocking band in L.A."

The track listing: "What Is It We're Made Of," "Crawling Over Me," "My
Friend," "Somebody Like Me," "The Bull," "Mother," "Butterflies In My
Head," "For You," "The Life," "Mary Mannequin," "I'm Not Broken,"
"Loving You," "I'm On My Own," "Lonely In Love," "Tongues."

-Candlelight Signs Susperia

Candlelight today confirms the worldwide signing of Norway's Susperia.
Currently finishing work on their fifth album, the band recently
announced a string of early spring U.K. dates that will kick off what
is expected to be a busy year for the popular Norwegian metal band.
"Ten years and still the same five guys," exclaims vocalist Athera of
the band's long commitment to their music. "We have worked nearly two
years on this material, perfecting it for your pleasure and our
devoted fans. It will take you back to the early days with melancholic
riffing and dark emotional vocals. It's a perfect blend of everything
Susperia has been and become."

"A blend of thrash metal drawing on influences that include Sepultura,
Anthrax, and Testament," says Allmusic.com of Susperia's now highly
regarded sound. The popular music portal continues its early 2005
review noting "their songs are melodic yet intense and forceful, and
shredding guitars are the rule." Formed in 1998 by drummer Tjodalv
(then of Dimmu Borgir) and guitarist Cyrus (then of Satyricon/Old
Man's Child), the band released their debut, PREDOMINANCE, via Nuclear
Blast in 2001. The band's much-acclaimed second album, VINDICATION,
followed in 2003. Signing with Norwegian-based Tabu Records (with
release in the U.S. via Candlelight Records) in 2004, the band
released their third album, UNLIMITED, later that year. Brave Words &
Bloody Knuckles called the album, "a scorcher from start to finish, on
par with Testament classic THE GATHERING."

A powerful live act, the band has consistently remained focused to the
live arena. With numerous high profile support, headline and festival
appearances, one of the band's most cherished experiences thus far
remains supporting the newly reformed Testament in late 2005. The
dates would culminate in the release of the band's Norwegian charting
mini-album DEVIL MAY CARE. Work on their fourth album, CUT FROM STONE,
would see out the end of the year. Unfortunately due to financial
constraints two tries to visit the U.S. to support the Daniel
Bergstrand-produced album during 2007/08 would set back the album's
overall sales target but the band remained committed. Touring Europe,
including numerous dates with W.A.S.P, the band's ambitions stayed and
continue to remain in tact. "We now have the backing of one label
worldwide and this is going to make life easier for us," says bassist
Memnock. "We hope that finally we get to play to our American fans."

Susperia's still untitled label debut is expected for release early
summer. Recorded in Norway it was mixed at Studio Fredman in Sweden.
Susperia currently includes guitarists Cyrus and Elvorn, bassist
Memnock, with drummer Tjodalv and vocalist Athera.

-Lothloryen Announces "In The Name Of Tolkien - Folk Metal Tour 2009"

The Brazilian heavy/folk metal act Lothloryen is preparing to hit the
road with a tour to promote their new album, entitled SOME WAYS BACK
NO MORE, released in Brazil through Die Hard Records.

The tour, entitled "In The Name Of Tolkien - Folk Metal Tour 2009,"
will begin in March and will be a true "bard's alliance" and will
feature the support act SkaldicSoul, which will be promoting their
album PATHS IN THE HIGHLAND, and also Blind Guardian Cover Union, a
band formed by members of both bands with the vocalists Daniel Felipe
and Rogério Malgor, who have a tone of voice similar to Hansi Kürsch.

About the tour, Leko Soares, Lothloryen's guitarist, comments:
"Everything began after our first show to promote SOME WAYS... last
year, when we became friends of SkaldicSoul. The affinity of both
bands and the love shared for Tolkien's works, folk metal, and Blind
Guardian, made us to search the ways to make the project of a
conceptual tour to work. We hope that the producers embrace the idea
and help us to bring Tolkien and metal to many places as possible."

There are plans of including booths for RPG, mediaeval culture and
local Tolkien communities on the shows. People who have interest to

-Fattooth's Self-Titled Debut Album To Unleash In The U.S.

Releases on Reversed Records on March 17th

HOLLYWOOD, CA -- Make No Bones about it, Fattooth is Canada's premiere
Kick in the face Metal/Punk crossover act. Their self-titled debut
U.S. release will hit March 24th on Reversed Records.

With a killer stage show and biting sound, Fattooth has been tearing a
new hole in the Canadian underground scene. Eons beyond all the tired
Death metal and Grindcore acts boring the hell out of every one to the
point of suicide;... With no patience for the depressed and
prozakked,... Fattooth brings on a mix of Punk, Cock Rock and Metal
roots that make the sluts rip their shirts off and the dudes thrash
their mullets.

You may be asking yourself how did this menacing quartet come to be?
The better question is how are they allowed to corrupt the youth
without consequence? We will save that for an upcoming seminar on
obscenity and censorship. Originally, it was three guys solid (Mihran
Boudakian, Hucifer and George Xipoleas), beating out sound and going
deaf with a multitude of half ass drummers in Montreal, Canada. Their
work was enough to get producer and Juno award winning engineer Rob
Shallcross (Strapping Young Lad, Gwar, Man Made Mountains, Mr. Plow,
etc.) interested in the project, after having worked with the talents
of Hucifer back in grungy old Winnipeg in the late '90s. The guys in
Montreal sent Shallcross the material they had recorded and Hucifer
started tracking the vocals in Vancouver, between planting Trees on
the West Coast of Canada, Gene Hoglan (Death, Dethlok, Strapping Young
Lad, Zimmer's Hole) flew in, pounded out the drum tracks and ate a
bunch of Sushi. The remaining two flew in to complete the job that had
been started in Magma Studios in January '08, hence the self-titled
debut album.

The three discovered a suitable replacement for Gene in Costa
Dimitroulis and are currently banging out shows to sweaty, drunk,
awestruck audiences. This album will be released in the U.S. in
conjunction with over 40 dates in 23 states.

Vocals: Hucifer
Guitar: George Xipoleas
Bass: Mihran Boudakian
Drums: Gene Hoglan (on album), Costa Dimitroulis

Track Listing:

1. Big Daddy
2. Rock Around The World
3. High Time At Low Tide
4. Bacteria
5. Red Neck Metal Head
6. Gunned By Noon
7. Slave

-SuidAkrA To Release New Album, Announce North American Tour

With the rise in popularity in the Pagan/Celtic Metal Scene, one of
the true pioneers of the Genre is ready to take the United States
scene by storm. Over their 14 year history, SuidAkrA have stayed true
to their roots and the sound that they have become known for. The
German Celtic metallers are returning full steam with their ninth
studio album; CROGACHT. Combining fast melodic death metal, Irish folk
music, and a torrent of harmonies, SuidAkrA proves yet again that they
possess the ability to blend several different influences into their
unique sound. To put a spin on things, new elements have been
introduced, like traditional instruments (bagpipes, banjo, tin
whistles), a 16 member choir and epic orchestral arrangements.

Recorded at Gernart Studios with producer Martin Muchwalter, CROGACHT
delivers an aural assault. In addition to that, the eyes and mind of
the listener will also be pleased, as famous Belgian graphic artists
Kris Verwimp is responsible not only for the magnificent artwork in
the digi-pak and 16-page booklet, but also for the lyrics of this
fascinating concept album. CROGACHT, meaning bravery, is based on one
of the most dramatic tales in Irish mythology. It tells the story of
the hero Cuchulainn's epic journey to the Isle of Skye, where he seeks
to learn the arts of war from the Scythian warrior woman Scathach. The
decisions he then has to make set the events in motion that will lead
up to his son Conlaoch's tragic fate...

With overwhelming reactions to their 2006 release, CALEDONIA, and
their November 2008 DVD/Best of CD, 13 YEARS OF CELTIC WARTUNES,
SuidAkrA have performed at over 200 live shows (including the Wacken
Open Air Festival five times), and successfully completed several
tours in Europe, Russia, and a first-ever American tour. SuidAkrA will
take part in the four week Pagan Knights North American tour starting
in February 2009 before rocking stages all over Europe and beyond.

CROGACHT will be released on March 3rd, 2009.

-Platinum Danish Band Volbeat To Release GUITAR GANGSTERS & CADILLAC
BLOOD On Mascot Records U.S.A. March 17th

HOLLYWOOD, CA -- Volbeat will unleash their second U.S. album, GUITAR
GANGSTERS & CADILLAC BLOOD, March 17th on Mascot Records U.S.A. This
new rock-a-billy metal masterpiece arrives on the tail end of their
successful 2008 release ROCK THE REBEL/METAL THE DEVIL.

With the word "Originality" being a much abused word in the world of
rock 'n' roll, it is very appropriate to describe Volbeat. The four
piece combines influences from the '50s to current mosh-pit metal that
puts you in a death grip. It's this imposing blend that has created
the U.S.A. to become diehard fans. The new CD also contains a
respectful and powerful interpretation of "I'm So Lonesome I Could
Cry," originally by Hank Williams, Sr.

The title GUITAR GANGSTERS & CADILLAC BLOOD refers to a story that
connects seven of the 13 (official) songs on the album: "Guitar
Gangsters & Cadillac Blood," "Find That Soul," "Maybellene I
Hofteholder," "Still Counting," "Back To Prom," "Light A Way" and "A
Broken Man And The Dawn." It's a tale about a travelling band whose
leader is a man that once got shot in the desert and left for dead.
During the band's tour he went on a mission to find the mysterious
killer that put seven bullets in his body. While travelling from city
to city the band ends up in a small town called Ten House City
performing for just a handful of people in the local bar. The songs
offer observations of the people in the rundown venue, made by the
band leader. This storyline will continue to be a connecting theme and
developed as Volbeat writes future albums.

While the whole concept of GUITAR GANGSTERS & CADILLAC BLOOD is
intriguing, it's above all a knock out of a hard rock/metal album.
"It's one of our goals to improve every time," explains singer and
guitar player Michael Poulsen. "That's the main reason of our
existence. Every tour had to be better than the previous one. We also
want every album to be better than the one before. We wanted to
improve on the song writing with GUITAR GANGSTERS & CADILLAC BLOOD. I
think we succeeded." Volbeat is comprised of vocalist/guitarist
Michael Poulsen, guitarist Thomas Bredahl, bassist Anders Kjølholm and
drummer Jon Larsen.

-Absu Premieres Track From New Album

Texas-based mythological occult metal band Absu has posted the song
"Girra's Temple," from its self-titled new album due in stores
February 24, on its official MySpace page. The song offers fans the
first listen to material on the anxiously awaited new album that
features an all-star array of guest musicians. Bring your browser to
http://www.myspace.com/absu .

ABSU is the first new recording from the trio since the highly
acclaimed album TARA released in 2001. Produced by the band with
mixing assistance from J.T. Longoria (King Diamond, Solitude
Aeternus), the album features artwork from Belgian artist Kris
Verwimp. Drummer/vocalist Proscriptor says of the album's lyrical
concepts, "I am concentrating more on Sumerian-based occult themes of
magick and mythology versus the Celtic aspect of my previous writings,
which was heavily expressed on the last few Absu studio albums.
Musically speaking, the material will be quite similar to TARA, but
with more of a '70s progressive/psychedelic texture within it."

Absu came to international prominence with the release of its debut,
BARATHRUM: VITRIOL in 1992. Originally released via Gothic Records,
the label later licensed the record to France's Osmose Productions
(Immortal, Enslaved, Marduk). Absu would establish a solid
relationship with the label and thus release all later recordings via
the renowned independent, including the highly regarded TARA (2001).
In 2007 the band would announce a new partnership with London-based
Candlelight Records.

Track listing for ABSU is:

1. Between The Absu Of Eridu & Erech
2. Night Fire Canonization
3. Amy
4. Nunbarshegunu
5. 13 Globes
6. ...Of The Dead Who Never Rest In Their Tombs Are The Attendance Of

-Prog-Metal Band Jaw To Release SWINGS HUMANS March 24th, 2009 On
Reversed Records In The U.S.A.

"Jaw has progressive elements similar to that of Tool, but enough
thunderous metal action to make them all their own"
- James Korba, Stylus Magazine.

"Jaw mixes the experimentation of Tool with a bit of death metal and
prog rock"
- Mike Warkentin, Uptown Magazine.

Hollywood, CA -- Canadian Prog-Metal band Jaw is releasing their
sophomore album SWINGS HUMANS on Reversed Records on March 24th, 2009.
Their efforts to unify musical experimentation and a message of
personal evolution, is clearly in evidence on an absolutely
meticulously crafted eight-song affair.

Jaw is power, an unrestrained force possessing an unorthodox
songwriting style. Fearlessly they innovate as they push for change.
Jaw is an inherent talent, a creative David in world of conformist
Goliaths.

Jaw formed in 2001 when vocalist Emmanuel Olarewaju and guitarist
Jason Dokken met through serendipity at a music store in their
hometown of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. After months of searching for
individuals who shared in their creative vision, Olarewaju and Dokken
recruited bassist Pablo Riedel and drummer Kevin Kornelsen. On July
17th 2001, Jaw began. Within a few months of forming, the quartet had
written a solid set of songs. These songs only scratched the surface
of Jaw's potential.

Jaw recorded their first EP in November 2002. With EP in hand Jaw
began tirelessly touring the frigid western Canadian plains through to
the eastern coast, while periodically dipping into Minnesota and North
Dakota. Jaw's live performance impressed to such an extent that within
a year the group had sold enough albums to garner a strong following
nationwide.

Jaw entered The Space Behind A Garage Studios in Winnipeg, Manitoba
with producer/engineer Rob Shallcross (Strapping Young Lad, Gwar,
Townsend Band, Darkest Hour, Threat Signal) to record SWINGS HUMANS.
The result of this collaboration is of brutality and peace conveyed
through movements, from the grandeur of its mountain tops to the voids
of its valleys. Soulful, poetic, graceful and mighty, Jaw's SWINGS
HUMANS reinvents what metal is and can be.

Jaw is:

Emmanuel Olarewaju: Vocals
Jason Dokken: Guitar
Pablo Riedel: Bass
Kevin Kornelsen: Drums

-Candlelight Announces CIII Label Tour 2009

Candlelight Records today announces its third label packaged tour for
North America. Set to kick off on June 6, CIII will feature the
talents of U.S. black metal legends Absu, with support coming from
France's Glorior Belli, Austin-based Averse Sefira and Los Angeles-
based Sothis. The tour will visit 22 cities throughout the U.S. and
Canada beginning in San Marcos, California and wrapping up in Dallas,
Texas on June 29. Tickets for all shows are on sale exclusively at
Enterthevault.com today. Tickets will go on sale through all local and
online ticket agencies starting March 5.

Absu's self-titled new album hits stores nationwide February 24.
Currently featured on the cover of Metal Maniacs the album is the
first to offer new material from the highly regarded metal band in
nearly eight years. The Texas-based band, self-described as
"mythological occult metal," are a fan favorite the world over.
Terrorizer Magazine calls the new album "a sound incarnate of a band
making the underground amazing again... an undeniable masterpiece."
This will be the band's first large-scale tour since their tour
alongside Enslaved in 1997.

France's Glorior Belli make their first trip to North America as they
participate on CIII. Their sophomore record, MANIFESTING THE RAGING
BEAST, was released in 2007 via Southern Lord Records. The band now,
signed to Candlelight, will begin recording of their label debut,
titled MEET US AT THE SOUTHERN SIGN, this month with hopes to see it
released during the tour. Popular site MetalKult said in review,
"MANIFESTING is as darkly beautiful as it is gloom inducing."

Averse Sefira join CIII continuing to support their latest album,
ADVENT PARALLAX. Time Out New York notes, "black-metal lifers Averse
Sefira have become a road-hardened unit, and it shows in the
blistering grooves of ADVENT PARALLAX. The fourth album of the band's
12-year career has no gothic frills or weedy "kvlt" production, just
eight battle-ready blasts jammed with parched-throat howls, scything
guitar riffs, blistering drums and hooks that stick." Their
participation on the tour is their third national tour in two years
having previously toured with labelmates 1349 in 2007 and with friends
Immolation in early 2008.

Sothis released their debut, DE OPPRESSO LIBER, on September 2. Mixed
by Andy LaRocque (King Diamond), the record has enjoyed growing and
consistent sales since release. This will be the band's first national
tour. Canada's popular Brave Words & Bloody Knuckles magazine says,
"behold the next big black metal band." The band is currently
completing work on their first video from DE OPPRESSO LIBER for the
album's title track.

CIII follows the success of Candlelight's previous label tours -- the
first in 2005 featuring Entombed, Crowbar, Pro-Pain & The Mighty
Nimbus, and second in 2007 featuring Enslaved, Dark Funeral and then
newcomers Abigail Williams. The label, maintaining offices in
Philadelphia and London, continues to grow since launching American
operations in 2001. Candlelight is distributed throughout the U.S.
exclusively via Caroline Distribution, EMI Music for Canada and
Plastichead Music for the rest of the world.

Confirmed dates for CIII are:

by Keith Abt (keithabt@...)

-Metallica/Machine Head/The Sword
Prudential Center, Newark, NJ
January 31, 2009

I've been eating quite a bit of crow concerning Metallica over the
past several months. I'll refrain from my standard spiel because you
probably have all heard it a thousand times by now, if not from me,
then from someone else just like me (You know the type: the frustrated
old guy who says "I was there at the beginning, Man! I loved 'em back
in the day, but I didn't like that Black Album, I hated LOAD and
RELOAD, I REALLY hated ST. ANGER, screw those guys, they're dead to me
now, yadda yadda yadda")... but even a jaded prick like me had to
admit that last year's DEATH MAGNETIC was a pretty damn solid album.
(It just missed making my top 10 of '08 by a hair.) Maybe it wasn't
the complete return to form that we've all been hoping for during the
past decade and a half, but DEATH MAGNETIC was definitely a much-
needed step in the right direction for the band.

Therefore when my reporter buddy Brian e-mailed me a week or so ago
saying he was on the comp-ticket list for the DEATH MAGNETIC tour at
Newark's brand-spankin' new Prudential Center Arena (home of the New
Jersey Devils hockey team) and asked if I'd be interested in
accompanying him to the show, I quickly said "yes," though I did so
with a mixture of excitement and trepidation. My last Metallica gig
was way the hell back in 1992, and I envisioned being surrounded by an
audience full of kids who weren't even BORN when I last saw them! I
also wondered what the evening's song selection would look like. After
scanning a few set lists from this tour on the Net things began to
look pretty promising; the band seemed to be skipping over the dreaded
LOAD/RELOAD/ST. ANGER trio entirely and were concentrating on a lot of
MAGNETIC and similarly minded old-school material. So I was optimistic
as Brian and I headed for Newark. If nothing else, I reasoned, this
was a much-needed night out away from the wife and kids...and my
ticket was free too, which is always a nice bonus. :)

It was a bitterly cold Saturday evening when we arrived at the packed
Prudential Center, so we were both thoroughly frostbitten by the time
we got into the arena. A long wait then ensued inside as we lined up
at the "Will Call" window to pick up our tickets. Between that and the
length of time it took us to find our seats, we all but missed the
first band on the bill, The Sword. I don't know much about them but we
did get to hear their final song as we took our seats and it sounded
like the kinda stuff that's up my alley -- swirly, doomy, no-frills
Sabbath/C.O.C. styled heavy rockin'. I was rather bummed that I'd only
gotten to hear one tune, as The Sword sound quite promising, and I
made a mental note to check them out further in the near future.

Next up was Machine Head, and though I'm not particularly a fan of
their modern thrash style, I'd say they did a pretty decent job of
warming up the frigid crowd that was slowly filing into the Prudential
Center. MH front man Robb Flynn looked like he was having the time of
his life playing an Enormo-Dome in front of a legendary band like
Metallica. His absolutely giddy demeanor seemed out of character
against Machine Head's pummeling, angry-as-hell music!! Flynn ran
around the stage with a grin on his face the entire time, tossing
drinks into the crowd, encouraging everyone to raise their fists or
throw their Horns. I'll give Machine Head points for being nice enough
to play the one song of theirs I do like, "Imperium," and they
surprised everyone late in their set with a gutsy (but sloppily
played) cover of Iron Maiden's "Hallowed Be Thy Name" (!!). Overall,
crowd reaction to MH started off slow but they had the place fired up
by the end of their set.

Finally it was time for the Big Boys, and I have to admit that my
inner Teenage Metal Fanboy's pulse immediately rose as soon as the
house lights dropped and the classic "Ecstasy Of Gold" intro tape
blared through the arena. Metallica blitzed into Newark with the
MAGNETIC lead off track "That Was Just Your Life," surrounded by a
wicked-cool "cage" of green and red laser beams and had the place in
the palm of their hands from the get-go.

A word about the staging on this tour for those of you who haven't
seen it yet: Metallica is playing "in the round," on their rectangular
stage set up in the middle of the arena floor. Microphones were set up
on all four corners and also in the midst of the "long" sides of the
rectangle so Hetfield and the rest of the band could run around as
much as they want and get "face time" with all sides of the arena, yet
were never far away from a mic when it was time for a vocal. The stage
was surrounded by a General Admission section where fans stood,
nightclub-style, before the reserved-seating started. Brian and I were
in a dynamite location in the first tier of seats, seven rows back,
right on one of the corners of the rectangle.

Metallica sounded great and looked stoked when they received a huge
ovation at the end of the first track. The rest of their set
concentrated on the DEATH MAGNETIC album (of course), mixed with a
killer selection of the oldies that got me hooked on the band in the
first place way back in the '80s. As I'd hoped, nothing was aired from
the LOAD/RE-LOAD/ST. ANGER era... it was either DEATH MAGNETIC or it
was old-school! The lack of mid-'90s material made sense when I
thought about it later on, as I think most of the songs from those
albums would've sounded out of place in this set list. DEATH MAGNETIC
is a definite throwback to Metallica's vintage JUSTICE/Black Album era
vibe, so classic tracks like "Battery" or "Master Of Puppets"
complemented the new stuff better than songs like, say, "Fuel" or "The
Memory Remains" would've. James Hetfield was in fine voice for most of
the show (he started to sound a little nasally towards the end, but
that's to be expected, I suppose) and his band mates' playing was top
notch. This was my first time seeing the band with semi-new bass
player Robert Trujillo and he held down the bottom end nicely as he
stalked about the stage with a caveman's gait. Hetfield made a few
statements about the crowd being "the fifth member of Metallica" or
"family," and commented on the fact that the band "has a lot of
history in New Jersey," all of which was met with massive applause, of
course. Speaking of crowd interaction, I found it interesting that
Lars Ulrich stuck to simply beating the crap out of his kit and didn't
say a word for the entire show, which was a surprise... the last time
I saw them in '92 he ran out from behind his drums and up to a
microphone to talk to the crowd so often that after a while my friends
and I were saying "Just shut the hell up and sit down, Lars!" All in
all, Metallica looked like they were having a hell of a lot of fun up
there. In the past they've been known for occasionally being "all
business" on stage and putting on shows that were ruled by machine-
like precision, but I saw a lot of smiles on the faces of all the band
members and they just seemed "looser" if that makes any sense. Special
effects on this tour were kept to a minimum; other than the
aforementioned laser beams (which made a return appearance during
"Master Of Puppets," lending a brief "Laser Floyd" feeling to the
proceedings, haha!), the way-cool huge movable lighting rigs shaped
like coffins, and occasional pillars of pyrotechnics (used most
effectively during "One," we could actually feel the heat those things
were putting out from our seats!), the band are letting the music do
most of the talking for them on this tour. As for me, I was on my feet
for the entire set, throwin' the horns, and banging my head along with
all of my old and new favorites, only taking a much-needed break to
sit down during "Nothing Else Matters" (I never did like that song!).
The main set ended, as expected, with the mega-hit "Enter Sandman,"
which blasted the tired crowd back into a frenzy. After 17-plus years
I could live happily without ever hearing "Enter Sandman" again, to be
honest, but I suppose if they ever left it out of the set they
wouldn't make it out of the building alive! Of the new DEATH MAGNETIC
tracks, I'd say that the aforementioned "That Was Just Your Life,"
"Cyanide" and the single "The Day That Never Comes" came off the best
in the live environment.

Metallica came back for their encore by busting into their cover of
the NWOBHM chestnut "Blitzkrieg" (which I'd never heard them do live
before!) and followed it up with "Hit The Lights" (ditto!!) so I had
to drag my tired self back up for some last bits of headbangin'. The
final song was "Seek & Destroy," which was fun because James asked to
put up the house lights so he could see all of us in the audience.
When the lights went up and they kicked into the song, dozens of HUGE
black beach balls with the Metallica logo on them dropped out of the
rafters into the crowd, which were then bounced back and forth around
the arena by the audience for the entire tune. Many of them ended up
back on the stage, but I saw quite a few fans grab onto them to take
home as a souvenir. (I saw one guy who'd caught one in the parking
garage on our way out of the arena, desperately trying to squeeze
enough air out of the giant ball just so it would fit in his car...
hahaha!) It would appear that some of the balls are already going for
upwards of $50 on eBay, by the way. :)

If it isn't already obvious from this rave review, I had a blast at
the show, and I'd have to say that this concert and the DEATH MAGNETIC
album have done a lot to repair my respect for Metallica. I may never
again be as fanatical about them as I was in my high school days but
it was great to see them last night, still kicking massive amounts of
ass after all these years. If anybody out there is trying to decide
whether or not this tour is worth the ticket -- it definitely is!!

-I'm still getting caught up from being absent the last few weeks... I
heard vocalist Mike Tirelli (Burning Starr, Riot, Holy Mother) is
having health problems, and a benefit concert was organized for this
past Sunday to raise money for his medical expenses. Let's hope he's
doing okay.

-I've been educating a co-worker on German heavy metal, starting with
Helloween's KEEPER OF THE 7 KEYS discs. Another guy overheard our
conversation and asked, "'German heavy metal?' You mean, like,
Rammstein?" Um, no. Next up: Running Wild, Gamma Ray, Grave Digger,
and U.D.O.

-A buddy of mine sent over a funny piece on Blue Oyster Cult's
"Burnin' For You" -- which still one of my all-time favorite songs.
Check it out at http://popdose.com/chartburn-12309/#more-10778 . Good
stuff.

-That same buddy (Bill, the check's in the mail!) sent me an article
about how Border's stores will soon be unloading a large part of their
CD and DVD inventory. Keep an eye out for deep discounts, folks.

-Go right back to the Tribunal Records press release above, and
download that Line Of Fire song called "Paradise." Seriously, you'll
thank me.

-I hope you all caught the press release above for Vision, the band
featuring our very own Sean P. Gahgan. Congrats on the record, Sean!

-In my current playlist: Revolution Renaissance - NEW ERA (Blistering
Records), Tenacious D - THE COMPLETE MASTER WORKS 2 (DVD) (Epic), Iron
Fire - TO THE GRAVE (Napalm Records), Sister Sin - SWITCHBLADE
SERENADES (Victory Records), Gigan - THE ORDER OF THE FALSE EYE
(Napalm Records).

ALKEMYST - THROUGH PAINFUL LANES (A-/B+) Nightmare Records, 2008

I must admit I initially judged this album by its cover, the
juxtaposition of a gold and black forest scene with ghostly figures
walking down a trail bringing to mind something along the lines of
Pain Of Salvation, but that impression was entirely wrong as what is
found within THROUGH PAINFUL LANES is a deft blend of power and
progressive metal featuring strong songwriting and impassioned
performances. On killer tracks such as "Another You," "When The
Morning Comes," "The Grand Illusion," and the title track, Alkemyst
prove you can successfully combine the subgenres of power and prog
into a satisfying concoction. If you can imagine a hybrid of Labyrinth
and Circus Maximus you might get an idea of what Alkemyst have to
offer, but the comparison doesn't really do them justice as they have
certainly made the effort to create their own identifiable sound. A
rousing version of Helloween's "Eagle Fly Free" brings that point home
-- you can be influenced by a band without sounding just like them.

AUTUMN BLACK - THE UNBORN TRAGEDY (D) Tyburn Records, 2008

When I opened an envelope full of promotional CDs a while ago and this
one fell out, my immediate reaction was, "Awww, sh*t." I guess nobody
in the Autumn Black camp read my not-terribly-positive review of their
previous CD, 2007's BENEATH THE SHADOWS, or they're just gluttons for
punishment. Either way, the band is still totally not my thing. I
tried to keep an open critical mind as I dropped THE UNBORN TRAGEDY
into the player but unfortunately, 'twas all for naught... yep,
they're still playing the same kinda generic, screamy metal-core crap
that they were dealing on the last album. Eleven tracks of
WOOOOARRRRRGH got on my nerves real quick, but I did gut it out long
enough to make it through the entire CD once in order to write this
review. When I reviewed their last album, Autumn Black's press kit
contained the howlingly funny line "East Coast Metal plus West Coast
Hardcore equals Autumn Black." This time they changed the equation to
read "Fusing Metal, Hardcore and Pop = Autumn Black." Pop? Where's the
pop in this CD? I call major bullsh*t on that one. Anyway, I've wasted
enough time writing about this drivel. If you're one of those kids
with dyed black hair whose main source of new music is your local Hot
Topic store, then this band is probably for you. It sure ain't for me.
Whenever Autumn Black releases their next CD, they would be doing both
of us a favor by losing my address.

CONQUEST - END OF DAYS (B) Dark Star Records, 2008
11 tracks, RT: 49:44

This band was a new name to me but apparently Conquest has been
kickin' around the St. Louis area since 1989 (!) in one form or
another and they've released three other full-lengths and an EP during
that time. After taking a first glance at the flames 'n' skulls motif
of the cover art, I erroneously assumed that Conquest was going to be
a death metal band, but once the opening track "Feel My Pain" blasted
forth I was pleasantly surprised to hear a classy, chugging
traditionally-minded metal combo. Conquest describes their music as
"Pure Thrash/Power Metal" and after several spins of this impressively
packaged indie release, I can't argue with that. The cool thing about
Conquest is that they're decidedly "old school" but don't present it
in a way that sounds over-the-top or cheesy. Bands such as Testament,
Fight, Nevermore, Iced Earth, old-school Metallica and Metal Church
came to mind while I listened to these 11 tracks. The entire album is
tight as a drum and very well played, though the gold star has got to
go to guitarist/vocalist Derrick Brumley, who can sound like Chuck
Billy one minute, Matt Barlow the next, all the while cranking out
some seriously shredding leads alongside fellow six-stringer Mike
Crook. Standout tracks for me were "Walk Alone," "Killer Machine," and
"Revelation (Soul Keeper)," but END OF DAYS kept my interest all the
way through and has continued to do so through repeated spins.
Considering that I have the attention span of a fruit fly, I don't say
that about a lot of CDs nowadays. :) END OF DAYS is one of the better
indie releases I've come across of late and I can definitely say that
it will spending a lot of time in my player during the new year. These
guys have obviously been studying the masters and have learned their
metal lessons well.

KREATOR - HORDES OF CHAOS (B) SPV/Steamhammer, 2009

German metal legends Kreator create the kind of skin-peeling thrash
that makes you want to eat a pile of raw red meat, wash it down with a
bottle of grain alcohol, then go out and kick someone's ass. Over two
decades since their inception, not much has changed on their 12th and
latest studio album, HORDES OF CHAOS. The ugly-as-hell spiked and
fanged creature-thingie on the front cover lets you know what you're
in for before you even slip the CD into your player, and as ever,
Kreator doesn't disappoint. HORDES OF CHAOS is one mean green mutha of
a thrash album, loaded with Kreator's trademark whirlwind guitar
riffs, powerhouse drumming and the truly unhinged, screeching vocal
attack of Mille Petrozza spitting venom over the top. The band
immediately sets the "We don't f**k around" tone with the blasting
title track, then proceeds to pummel you senseless for nine more songs
of vicious, high-speed thrash metal that only Germans seem to be able
to pull off without turning into a sloppy mess. The closing track
"Demon Prince" is particularly monstrous, as are "Warcurse" and
"Destroy What Destroys You." All in all, HORDES OF CHAOS delivers.
Raise your horns and strap on your bullet belts, you're in for a hell
of a ride. Or should that be a "ride straight to Hell?" Whatever. As
they approach their 25th year as a recording act, Kreator still sound
as vicious as ever, and HORDES OF CHAOS should be received gratefully
by their hordes of fans.

This is going to sound cruel as hell, but after spinning the debut by
this Cleveland based all-female band a couple of times, the first
comment that came to my mind was that "Level C" was a very apropos
name for them, because this is pretty C-Level stuff. By that I mean
"on par with those local bands that get to play on the back of a
flatbed truck in the parking lots at OzzFest." They don't out-and-out
suck but the tunes on offer here are pretty average aggro-rock that
didn't do much to make me want to line up for a ticket to their next
show, either. The bio makes much ado about how their "full throated
metal ecstasy" (Huh huh huh... must resist urge to make tasteless
joke...!) is topped by "the fact that they are downright hot chicks,"
but if I hadn't had a picture of the band and the bio sheet to go by,
I probably wouldn't have even realized that there's a woman on vocals
here. Honestly, Christine Maynard sounds like pretty much any other
"modern metal" singer out there right now, male or not (though she
thankfully lays off the WOOOARRRGH style, only bringing that out of
her vocal arsenal sparingly). Level-C are nowhere as annoying as
Kittie, but they're no L7 (still my favorite all-female band) either.
For some odd reason, much of the album reminded me of Prong at their
most lukewarm, coming across as rather vanilla and generic to these
ears. They scored a few points late in the game for the fairly
groovin', angry song "Suck A Fist" (which is probably what these gals
will tell me to do if they read this review!) and the mournful
"Misery," but overall I am underwhelmed and therefore I give Level-C a
grade of "C." When it comes to all-female bands you can continue to
pass me the L7 or Betty Blowtorch, please.
