-Iron Maiden Documentary

British heavy rock legends Iron Maiden, in association with EMI

will release a feature-length documentary film into cinemas worldwide
on April 21, 2009. The North American premiere of "Iron Maiden: Flight
666" will be part of the prestigious SXSW film festival which runs
March 13-22 in Austin, Texas.

"Iron Maiden: Flight 666" follows the band members on the first leg of
their "Somewhere Back In Time World Tour" in February and March of
2008 as they experienced the most ambitious and adventurous tour in
rock history.

The band was accompanied everywhere by award-winning documentary
makers Banger Productions from Toronto in Canada, who have received
international critical acclaim for their previous movies "Metal: A
Headbanger's Journey" and recently "Global Metal." Producer/presenter

-Dream Theater Working On Their 10th Studio Album!

Prog Metal veterans Dream Theater are currently wrapping up work on
their tenth studio album. The band commenced work on the as-yet
untitled album -- their second for Roadrunner Records, following up
2007's SYSTEMATIC CHAOS -- in October of last year.

Drummer Mike Portnoy and guitarist John Petrucci are once again
producing the CD, while engineer Paul Northfield will mix the record.
Roadrunner plans to release the album in early summer upon which the
band will immediately embark on a world tour to support it.

Rock On The Range -- America's premiere destination rock festival --
will return to Columbus, Ohio's Crew Stadium Saturday, May 16 and
Sunday, May 17. The 2009 lineup for the nationally renowned festival
centrally located in the heart of the country will be highlighted by
performances from some of rock's biggest artists including Motley
Crue, Slipknot, Alice In Chains, Avenged Sevenfold and Korn.

"We try to listen to our fans and they've been saying for years that
we should play at Rock On The Range," said Nikki Sixx of Motley Crue.
"We're really excited to play one of America's great rock festivals."

Slipknot's Corey Taylor says, "Being asked to headline Rock On The
Range is an absolute pleasure! Columbus, Ohio has always been very
good to us. The lineup looks great; the shows look fantastic. And I

Presented by Right Arm Entertainment, AEG LIVE and Crew Stadium, the
two-day, multi-stage music and lifestyle event will feature a potent
lineup of more than 35 bands. This year's well-rounded mix of rock's
top artists also includes Shinedown, Buckcherry, The Used, Atreyu,
Chevelle, Flyleaf, Saving Abel, Saliva, Blue October, Hoobastank,
Black Stone Cherry, and many more.

This marks the third outing for the annual event, which drew 30,000
people in its inaugural year in 2007 and more than 55,000 people in

the Jagermeister Music Stage, on-stage fan platforms -- for contest

-Lacuna Coil Announces Release Date For New Full-Length Album SHALLOW
LIFE; Prepare For "Music As A Weapon IV"

Italy's greatest musical export, Lacuna Coil, has returned with the
massively anticipated, new full-length release, SHALLOW LIFE, which is
set for an April 21st North American release. The album was recorded
with acclaimed producer Don Gilmore (Avril Lavigne, Linkin Park, Pearl
Jam) at the famed NRG Studios in Los Angeles. This new effort is
another huge step forward in the band's continuous evolution and marks
its first full-length since 2006's KARMACODE and promises to be well
worth the wait. It has been years since an artist came along that
could redefine a genre, but this group has the potential to do just

Fans can now rejoice as Lacuna Coil is looking to debut some new
material on this spring's "Music As A Weapon IV" festival. Lacuna Coil

16th. The 38-city "Music As A Weapon IV" fest marks the group's first
run of North America in almost two years.

Persona Non Grata

Newly signed to Sensory, Greek progressive metallers Persona Non Grata
(Latin for "an unwelcome person") are gearing up to release debut
full-length SHADE IN THE LIGHT on February 24, 2009. The band formed
in 2003 when keyboardist John Ioannidis asked guitarist Chris Gatsos
to join his then-group Fatal Error. Ioannidis' rock roots complemented
Gatsos' heavy metal background almost instantly and it wasn't long
before the two changed the name and recruited new members. Today
featuring Ioannidis, Gatsos, vocalist Bill Axiotis and session
musicians Akis Gavalas (drums) and Chris Vogiatzis (bass), SHADE IN
THE LIGHT displays a band rooted deeply in the classic progressive
metal sound of Dream Theater and Vanden Plas, while still wielding a

Sensory Signs Leprous!

Sensory is proud to announce the signing of Norwegian progressive
metal upstarts Leprous. Hailing from the town of Notodden -- home to
such metal luminaries as Emperor, Zyklon, Ihsahn and Peccatum --
Leprous formed in 2001 and features within its ranks Einar Solberg
(synth/vocals; live Emperor), Tor Oddmund Suhrke (guitar), Halvor
Strand (bass), Øystein Landsverk (guitar) and Tobias Ørnes Andersen
(drums). With an eclectic list of influences ranging from King
Crimson, Tool, Massive Attack and Peccatum to Devil Doll, Dillinger
Escape Plan, Mr. Bungle and Chopin and ages ranging from just 18 to 23
years, the young quintet have already made themselves visible on the
Norwegian prog and metal scenes as two-time finalists in the
prestigious Norwegian Rock Championship. Of particular note: Leprous
is currently working as legendary Emperor main man Ihsahn's session
band, supporting Swedish progressive death metal juggernaut Opeth on

The Aurora Project's Sensory Records Debut Soon Available

SHADOW BORDER is the second album from Dutch progressive rock band The
Aurora Project. Their 2005 debut, UNSPOKEN WORDS, brought them much
acclaim in the worldwide progressive rock community. The band has
twice been invited to perform at the prestigious ProgPower Europe
festival in Baarlo, Netherlands. After the demise of their record
label, the band signed with The Laser's Edge in 2008. TAP creates

-Kip Winger Honored By United States Government And Military

HOLLYWOOD, CA -- Multi-platinum recording artist/producer/songwriter
Kip Winger was recently presented with an honorary plaque and a
historic United States of America flag by The Government of the United
States.

In a surprise presentation ceremony during the taping of "Legends &
Lyrics" General Harold Cross honored and praised Kip for his work on
Winger's IV.

The flag has historic significance as it was the last United States of
America flag to fly over Forward Operating Base, Kalso, located in
Iskandaria, Iraq, 20 miles south of Baghdad. Before it was turned over
to the Iraqis, FOB Kalso was the U.S. Army soldier's broadband
Internet services facility in Iraq as well as a base to stop enemy
activity in the Sunni Triangle.

Winger - IV's [Shrapnel Records] concept and emphasis was on our
Military and what it was like to be solider, form a soldiers
perspective, leaving politics at the door. Kip had a vision to support
the American troops that are standing ground in Iraq and elsewhere. "I
had been doing solo shows at Military bases and in speaking with many
of the soldiers, their stories touched me," explains Kip. "It was
amazing to hear how far reaching our music was and how many soldiers
have been moved by it, I was truly humbled by the stories." Capturing
the spirit, mood and reality from the perspective of the soldier.
Songs like "Right Up Ahead," "M16" and "Blue Suede Shoes" were
inspired songs seen though the eyes of a soldier at war.

The album artwork was handled by Ethan Van Sciver who wanted to put in
his part for our Military -- Sciver is a renowned DC Comic book artist
and penciler who has contributed (among others) to "Cyberfrog," "New
X-Men," "The Flash: Iron Heights" and "Impulse." The "Guardian Of
Freedom" album art depicts our Military's finest protecting with
guardian angels that are representative of our prayers we send.

Currently Kip is promoting his latest solo CD FROM THE MOON TO THE SUN
on MVD Audio and the soon to be released BLACKWOOD CREEK record. He
recently completed his first Orchestral piece for Ballet Choreographer
Christopher Wheeldon, Director of Morphoses Ballet Co. (

Ballet. The Musical world premier of "Ghosts" will be with The Tucson
Symphony November 14th and 15th 2009. Kip and Reb Beach have also just

-Shadowside Reveals New Album Track List And Cover Artwork

Brazilian metallers Shadowside have just unveiled the cover artwork
and track list for DARE TO DREAM, the band's forthcoming album. The
cover was designed by Brazilian artist Jobert Mellow who had
previously worked with the band on the American edition of the
successful debut album THEATRE OF SHADOWS (2007) and is also known for
works with Sabaton, Grave Digger, Heavenwood, Stuck Mojo, Iron Fire
and others.

DARE TO DREAM was produced and mixed by Dave Schiffman (System Of A
Down, Audioslave, Avenged Sevenfold) at LCM Studio in Sao Paulo,
Brazil and mastered by Howie Weinberg (Aerosmith, Iron Maiden,
Metallica, Pantera and several others) at Masterdisk Studio in New
York.

"We wanted to achieve something that would represent the whole idea
behind the DARE TO DREAM title and Jobert knew exactly how to capture
that, not only on the cover but in the entire album artwork. The title
works really well in our area once every single great band was born
from a child's or teenager's dream however it applies to everyone,
anywhere. It's for a child that doesn't understand why there are wars
out there, for those tired of the office work, dreams of going away on
a trip or switching jobs, for those who think of a distant future or
simply of what is going to happen tomorrow. Daring is essential in
everybody's life and it isn't any different in our case. In this new
material we kept everything we have been about since the beginning but
we dared going one step further. The energy is there as well as the
heaviness but we went a little more melodic in some parts and angrier
in others. I believe DARE TO DREAM will come as a shock in a positive
way. I see ourselves with a lot more identity nowadays, lyrics are
extremely personal and I can say this album is 100% Shadowside."

The first release from the label will be the debut album from the

Project Terra Incognita

Novelist Kevin J. Anderson Aligns Epic Fantasy Novel With Progressive
Rock CD

EL DORADO HILLS, CA -- Symphonic rock's Erik Norlander and Lana Lane
have joined forces with internationally best-selling author Kevin J.
Anderson ("Dune" novels with Brian Herbert, "Star Wars" and "X-Files"
novels) for a groundbreaking crossover novel and progressive rock
recording project titled Terra Incognita. Anderson has created an
incredible fantasy universe with sailing ships, sea monsters, and the
crusades. Erik Norlander, an accomplished keyboardist/composer and a
founding member of progressive rock band Rocket Scientists, joined the
project upon its inception to pen the music and produce the recording
after a meeting with Anderson and Shawn Gordon of ProgRock Records.
Norlander's wife, Queen of Symphonic Rock Lana Lane, was recruited as
the lead female vocalist.

"The 'Terra Incognita' project is really the perfect convergence of
spirits," affirms Norlander. "I have been a fan of Kevin's novels for
some time, and Kevin enjoys many of the CDs I've produced. Normally we
would have a hard time collaborating as we really work in different
media. But we found a common link in ProgRock Records chief, Shawn
Gordon, with whom I have worked for several years as both my label
distributor and general comrade-in-arms. Shawn brought us all together
for a lunch meeting last year, and that was the catharsis for this
excellent project. This is surely a unique exercise in mixed media,
and I'm thrilled to be involved."

John Payne (Asia Featuring John Payne) is featured as a vocalist on
the project. Norlander became an official member of Asia Featuring
John Payne at the end of 2007, and has been touring and recording with
Payne since that time. A special live performance featuring John Payne
and Lana Lane as special guests with Norlander's Rocket Scientists
band is scheduled for Saturday, March 28th at The Winchester in

and Michael Sadler (ex-Saga). Additional musicians include David

French metal/rock outfit Abinaya are about to release their new CD
CORPS via Brennus Music.

Birmingham's Angel House have been confirmed for Z Rock 09. Si and the
lads will be sharing the stage with such rock heavyweights as John
Waite and Joe Lynn Turner. Angel House are also hard at work on the
follow-up to their highly acclaimed debut CD due for release later in
2009.

Germany's Assignment are about to start work on their second album.
The band have told me they will have a guest female singer on their
second album, all very hush hush at the moment, but this singer is
well established and has had various number one hits here in the U.K.
singles charts.

Sweden's hard working rockers Badmouth seem to be going from strength
to strength. The guys have been featured in Classic Rock magazine in
the U.K. and numerous other publications. The band are now starting to
get lots of radio attention here in the U.K. and abroad. The band are
also Number 3 in the nordic challenge for the Sweden Rock Festival, so
keep those votes coming in.

Still in Sweden we find our lads Coldspell who have just completed
their debut album for Escape Music called INFINITE STARGAZE out on the
20th of February 2009. On a personal note I can't wait for this album,
it's been a long time coming and the band have worked long and hard,

France's Eden Sands will have their fabulous album LIVING KILLS
released via Brennus Music, due anytime.

Australia's Fallen Silver have signed to Heart Of Steel Records and
will release their album BLOOD IN BLUE EYES very soon.

Famous from New Hampshire in the U.S. have been getting lots of very
good feedback with good reviews and radio coverage here in the U.K.
The band have already recorded three new tracks and hope to have their
second CD out this year.

Finland's melodic rockers Free Spirit have just joined the TSM ranks.
Their new CD PALE SISTER OF LIGHT is fabulous and already getting lots
of attention from various record companies.

Sweden's Griffen have just signed to Heart Of Steel Records and are
busy working on their debut CD for release later this year.

Hungary's H.A.R.D. have been gaining a lot of radio and national
magazine exposure. The band are about to start work soon on album
number two. In the meantime the band will play the the Blues Alley in
Budapest celebrating the country's Hard Rock Magazine's birthday.

TSM/SLW's all-girl outfit Maeven from Sheffield recently signed to
Lock Jaw Records. They also just got a whopping 4xKKKK review in
Kerrang!, with Kerrang! hailing them "The New Queens Of U.K. Punk."
Well done girls, proud of ya!

-Echoes Of Eternity Complete Work On New Album

California-based, female-fronted progressive metallers Echoes Of
Eternity have completed work on their second album, tentatively titled
AS SHADOWS BURN, for an April release via Nuclear Blast Records.

The follow-up to 2007's THE FORGOTTEN GODDESS was produced and mixed
by former Machine Head/Soulfly guitarist Logan Mader, who has
previously worked with Gojira, Divine Heresy, Five Finger Death Punch
and Cavalera Conspiracy.

"It was an amazing recording experience, and Logan Mader really
brought out the best in the band and gave us an incredible production.
If you liked THE FORGOTTEN GODDESS, you certainly won't be

-Man Made Mountains Releases Self-Titled U.S. Debut Album

HOLLYWOOD, CA -- Man Made Mountains will release their self-titled
debut album in the U.S. on March 24th on Reversed Records.

Genre jumping is nothing new and Man Made Mountains shows their
imagination with their new album. The band blends heavy riffs, crunchy
vocal, dialogue samples all the while layering keyboards and ambient
noise that will grasp your imagination as each song enters to cortex
of your mind.

Man Made Mountains, like many bands from Canada, have humble rural
roots. Hailing from the remote west coast island of Quadra, a
community with a population comprised of mostly, loggers, fishermen
and draft-dodgers. The four members: Christian Carmen (Vocals/guitar/
synth/samples), Lawrence Butler (Drums), Adrien Doering (Guitar) and
Brynne Ewart-Armstrong (Bass/vocals), formed in 2004 following the
disbanding of a group with fellow Quadrite, Ryan Guldemond (Mother
Mother, Last Gang Rec) and were drawn to the urban metropolis of
Vancouver, B.C. where they spent their first years there trying
different formulas and different names.

The self-titled album gives its listeners a full spread of MMM's
musical pantheon. Heavy in nature, they dip in and out of the sound
that might typically be labeled "heavy metal," but have much more to
offer than just fist-pounding anthems. With thundering distorted
pulses morphing into dreamy lulls, Man Made Mountains' sound is not
unlike a mountain range itself.

-Man, I hope this sale is still going on -- I heard about it earlier
this week but it's taken me this long to get an issue together... Rob
Halford's people are offering the excellent Fight box set INTO THE PIT
for a mere $11.97 at http://www.metalgodshop.com/ . Sadly, I never got
around to reviewing this last year but lemme just say now that for a
measly 12 bucks you cannot go wrong here. The four-disc set (three
CDs, one DVD) contains rejiggered versions of Fight's three studio
releases (1993's WAR OF WORDS and 1995's A SMALL DEADLY SPACE are
both
re-mixed and re-mastered, while 1994's MUTATIONS EP is re-mastered
only) plus the LIVE IN PHOENIX video, which has a WAR OF WORDS-era
concert, studio footage, the "Blowout In The Radio Room" video, and
more good stuff. Plus, there is the excellent packaging common to all
Metal God Entertainment releases.

-I'm still forcing my co-worker to listen to German metal on a regular
basis. So far he's gotten both KEEPER discs from Helloween, plus
Rage's UNITY and SOUNDCHASER. Curiously, he thought the Helloween
discs were merely "okay" but he went pretty well apesh*t for the Rage
albums. I'm currently deciding which Running Wild album to lend him.

-That "THUD!" sound you just heard was our very own Sean P. Gahgan
hitting the floor. I think he fainted when he read about Serenity and
Kamelot touring together... :)
