BAND BACKGROUND
Björn Lodin, has a vast and exciting history starting in the '80s with
the band Six Feet Under and later a long career with Baltimoore. Micke
"Nord" Andersson, has recorded and toured with numerous high profile
bands/artists such as Roxette, Jamie Walters, Bjorn Skifs, etc.,
produced bands like The Rasmus and written songs with the Scorpions,
not forgetting his own tribute to the blues based seventies in the
band Nord. Janne Stark, has a list of credits including bands like
Overdrive, Locomotive Breath, Zello, Mountain Of Power, etc. When
auditioning drummers and bass players their choice fell on Robban
Bäck, and Björn Lundqvist, two young, hungry and musically outstanding
guys!

The album has been recorded between 2006 and 2008 and it contains
songs written in a time period spanning from 1984 to 2007, but
sounding in a pure traditional '80s NWOBHM style (with a sound that

Charlemagne - CHARLEMAGNE (Eonian Records)

Charlemagne was formed sometime during 1987. Scott and Raymond had
moved to Hollywood in September of 1986 when Scott was scheduled to
begin the 1986-1987 Session at Musicians Institute's GIT. It was
during that time that Scott met Ken Kowalski who was attending PIT,
and Lee Brian who was attending BIT. While it was common practice for
students from all of the schools to play together during LPW (Live
Playing Workshop), Scott, Ken, and Lee never actually played together
during those times. Scott had observed Ken and Lee playing with other
players at various times and after hearing the both of them, he
approached them on different occasions to discuss the possibility of
forming a band outside of school. Several rehearsals were scheduled to
explore this possibility after which it became obvious to all this was
to be a great fit indeed.

After a solid year of an average of three nights per week, the band
was ready for prime time in the Los Angeles club scene. One
interesting side note was the rehearsal space that the band used. In
the middle of the industrial district of Los Angeles in a city called
Vernon was a lock-out rehearsal facility named Francisco's Studios.
Francisco's consisted of two buildings with a total of 117 rehearsal
rooms all rented by the month. On any given night throughout the week,
literally 90% of the rooms were filled with as many local rock acts
rehearsing their shows. Since these rooms allowed 24-hour access,
bands rehearsed at all hours of the week as well. It was not uncommon
at all for 25 bands to even be rehearsing at 7:00 a.m. on a Sunday
morning. Another interesting tidbit was the Purina Chicken Feed
factory located about ¼ mile from Francisco's. During the summer, the
odor produced from that factory was EXTREMELY heavy. When Charlemagne
joined BMI in 1990, the membership application required five possible
names for membership.

While it was easy to come up with the first four possibilities, a
fifth name eluded the band. In an act of frustration, the fifth name
submitted was Boiling Beaks Music which was coined from the process
used at the Purina factory to manufacture chicken feed. Sure enough
when the application was accepted, BMI used Boiling Beaks Music as the
name. That name is still registered with BMI today.

Charlemagne played at all the major clubs in Los Angeles and Orange
County, including those on the Sunset Strip. While most bands were
using the typical equipment setups, everyone in Charlemagne used Rack-
Mounted Rigs, including Ken. A friend in another band noticed we were
pretty much the only band in town doing this, and nicknamed us "The
Rack Band." The name stuck with a lot of our colleagues in other
bands. Some of these bands even asked permission to play some of our
songs in their shows. The band agreed. So on any given night in
Hollywood, those in attendance for these other bands actually got to
hear Charlemagne songs even though Charlemagne was elsewhere.

The late '80s and Early '90s were truly a historical time in the
evolution of Rock and Roll. Great hair, cool clothes, and "Shred"
guitar defined the thousands of bands that played the Hollywood
circuit. Seven nights a week, Hollywood was filled with bands and fans
that made no apologies for their culture. It was the pinnacle
generation of musicianship, and a time when music was intended to be
fun and make you feel good. The rest of the world followed the trend
set by the Hollywood bands. All who were fortunate enough to be a part
of it in Hollywood will attest to the electricity that fueled the
Hollywood Hair Band era. It was a magical time when Rockstars were
really Rockstars. The sad thing is that there was just not room enough
for everyone, so a lot of great bands didn't catch a ride on the
"Record Deal" bus. Ask any member of any of the bands who were there
about Hollywood in the '80s and early '90s, and most will agree it was
the best of times when history was being made.

Gynger Lynn formed in 1989 when bassist Jim Stuppy paid a visit to
Dean Pressley, the lead singer and guitarist for Chicago-based band
Cheri Lane. Jim and Dean spent the entire afternoon talking about
collaborating. Over the course of the same day, Jim would eventually
introduce Dean to Will Hair, who in turn called drummer Frank Paul
that same evening. The four musicians spent the next two weeks writing
and playing in Frank's basement.

Within a month, the newly formed Gynger Lynn had hit "The Windy City"
like a ferocious storm. Local management companies and producers began
to take notice. After recording two demo cassettes at The Playroom
with Joe Bader at the helm, building the perfect road crew, and
continuously writing new material, Gynger Lynn was off to conquer the
Chicago music scene. The band played six to eight shows a month,
rehearsed five days a week, and basically lived the rock-n-roll
lifestyle to its fullest.

Over the course of the next couple of months, Gynger Lynn would gain
interest from Hounds and Columbia recording artist John Hunter. John
would soon become the band's long time manager and was determined to
see the Gynger Lynn maximize their musical talents and showmanship.
John later took the band to Chicago Recording Company to record some
of the band's best material with Chris Sheppard. Gynger Lynn would
also begin to open for many national acts such as Doro, Tony
MacAlpine, Tuff, Lillian Axe, Helix, Blue Oyster Cult, and many
others. Gynger Lynn would also share the stage with such local acts as
Smash Alley, Ript, Little Venus, Nikki Foxx, Onyx, and many others.

Although times were good for Gynger Lynn, changes began to develop
about midway through with Frank and Dean and their collaboration.
Ergo, the side projects were short lived. Frank had decided to pursue
a different genre and has since gone on to become a great country,

Dean would soon head back to Gynger Lynn and at the same time would
add two new band members with Gavin Jadwin on keyboards and Luke James
Lorraine on drums. Gynger Lynn was now a five-piece machine and was
ready to get back to business as usual. The band went back to six to
eight shows a month, often playing double shows on weekends. Known for
their punked-up version of "The Time Warp," lots of silly string,
sufficient supply of beer, beautiful girls at all of the shows, broken
guitars, plenty of original material, hard work, and most importantly
high-energy, Gynger Lynn never had to worry about giving the same show
twice and appeared to be on their way.

Gynger Lynn was also beginning to play showcases for and meeting with
many of the music industry's top record executives from Warner
Brothers, RCA, Columbia, Capital, and Geffen. The band would also see
plenty of air time on The Spirit of Chicago 103.5 the Blaze.

In 1994, Gynger Lynn would eventually go their own way, as the record
industry was no longer interested in signing bands of this nature.
However, it was an incredible five-year ride. Gynger Lynn had recorded
a few dozen studio tracks, played hundreds of shows, and still remain
friends to this day.

Formed in 1988, Pistol Dawn had been touring the earth since they were

heard in every way of Ohio based Dragonwyck? These four members have
delivered an oustanding form of fist pounding, hard hitting Power
Metal since the early '90s.

FIRST STRIKE (a demo release in '94), followed by THE GATHERING (an EP
on Fortunate / Hellion Records in 1996). The band's first, full-length
saw daylight two years later on and was entitled WHISPER IN DARKNESS
(a 12-song album delivered once again by Fortunate / Hellion Records).

Dragonwyck's Next effort was NEUROTICA, an independent four-song EP
unleased in 2007.

RATING: 8 / 10
Dragonwyck is a band that has been featured on The Metal Madman's
online radio show. So hearing just one track from them was enough for
me to look into them. Hailing from Ohio myself, I'm not sure how I've
managed to miss these guys. Their musical style varies from power to
thrash to a bit of even gothic metal, yet retain that classic heavy
sound. Kenny shows many sides of his vocal ability including: clean
midranges, high falsetto screams, and even some hardcore grunts.

The CD starting off with the blistering song "Bag Of Bones" and never
lets down. "Things Remembered" has a chorus that keeps me coming back
and is the most memorable track off of the disc. I enjoy the drumming
and guitar playing in the beginning of "Areas Of Gray" as they create
a great mood and show that gothic side of the band, including some
Halford-like screams. "Burn" (no not the Deep Purple song) ends the
album leaving the listener begging for more. The only thing I can say
that I don't like is a few of the screams, yet this is merely a minor
flaw for this disc. This CD's production is outstanding; in fact its
mix is right up there with the best coming from European bands of the
same nature. The CD booklet is embossed and makes for a great illusion
on the eye.

The Metal Madman note: As stated above this band was recently featured
on The Metal Madman™ Radio Show. Band shows a lot of potential, and
for a self released disc, has a very good production to it. HIGHLY
RECOMMENDED! Looking forward to more from this band. CD title gets
major props alone!

Ivory's music is a combination of melody, technique and musical
elegance, with particular attention to sound, arrangements and

but only during the summer of 2005, after some troubles that made

"reading between the lines." It immediately had lots of amazing
rewiews, and so the band had the right spirit to carry on composing
new songs for a full-length album. The lineup is finally Ivan G.
voice, Salvo Vecchio (Seymour Duncan endorser) guitars, Luca Bernazzi
bass, Andry Marincola keyboards and piano, Il Pedro drums and
percussions. Every member of Ivory has a long experience in the
musical scene, both as session man, and as live performer (even with
rock stars like Ian Paice, Jeff Scott Soto, Louis Casih; or opening
for Vision Divine, Labyrinth, Secret Sphere, White Skull, etc.). Some

Biography
Kaledon was born in 1998 out of the ashes of several local metal
bands. Guitar player Alex Mele recruited a few former band mates and
got a couple of demos out until the band signed to Steelborn /
Northwind Records in 2001. Even before they got signed they won the
support slot for Ronnie James Dio in June 2000. Alex began writing on
the epic musical saga "Legend Of The Forgotten Reign" in the year
2001. The first album CHAPTER I: THE DESTRUCTION was released in
October 2002, being followed quickly by CHAPTER II: THE KING'S RESCUE
in July 2003. About two years later the third album CHAPTER III: THE
WAY OF THE LIGHT hit the shelves in the record stores. All records
filled with powerful, yet catchy melodic metal in the typical southern
European style but without being overspoiled with happy chords and
flat synthie melodies. Kaledon built up a good reputation among the
fans of melodic power metal all around the world in that time. During
the time the third album got released first signs of a break between
the label and the band began to show up and shortly after the release
of THE WAY OF THE LIGHT the band parted ways with Steelborn Records.
Even before that date their drummer David Folchitto had already quit
the band so they asked their friend and Hero Jörg Michael
(Stratovarius, Grave Digger and others) to help them out. David
returned quickly after the third album saw the light of day. So the
world is prepared for the next chapter in the neverending saga. The
band started planning, writing and recording CHAPTER IV: TWILIGHT OF
THE GODS right after the release of THE WAY OF THE LIGHT. German
record label Hellion Records licensed TWILIGHT OF THE GODS right away
after listening to the furious metal anthems for the first time. And
now the saga continues with the fifth chapter. Look forward to the new
album, the fifth chapter and a great band!

the time since that album's release, drummer Shawn Benson and
guitarist Jon Hinds joined the ranks, and the band started playing
shows locally (including the prestigious ProgPower USA Showcase) and
working on new material. And now, after years of hard work, Theocracy
is proud to finally unveil their sophomore album, MIRROR OF SOULS,
released on Ulterium Records.

The material on MIRROR OF SOULS makes it abundantly clear that instead
of succumbing to the infamous "sophomore slump," the band has actually
taken everything to another level. Theocracy is now a full band firing
on all cylinders, and the new material features the same high-quality
songwriting that made the debut album so memorable. The album's anchor
and grand finale is Smith's magnum opus, the 23-minute "Mirror Of
Souls" title track. "It's the best thing I've ever written, and the
song I'm most proud of," he says. The track features the same kind of
memorable melodies and smart pacing that made epics like "The
Serpent's Kiss" and "Twist Of Fate" fan favourites. It is an epic in
the truest sense of the word, with massive choirs and bombastic
orchestral passages.

MIRROR OF SOULS was mixed by Smith at the band's Theocracized Studios
and mastered by Mikka Jussila [Nightwish, Children Of Bodom,
Stratovarius] at Finnvox, and the muscular, clear production is a
perfect complement to the songs. The cover art was created by Robert
Wilson and the booklet was made by Felipe Machado Franco [Iced Earth,
At Vance, Ayreon]. Theocracy and Ulterium Records are very excited
about working together and supporting this long-awaited album, which
is sure to be a hit with fans and critics alike.

Studios, in Sweden.

The album features all melodic and catchy Heavenwood trades plus a new
energy and experience. The recording is still rounded by special guest
appearances (Firewind's Gus G., Oceans Of Sadness' Tijs Vanneste and
Annihilator's Jeff Waters) who not only underline but also sublime
Heavenwood's trademark of Gothic and Dark Metal.

Formed in 1992 under the name Disgorge, Heavenwood quickly established
themselves as one of the most important Portuguese bands, alongside
Moonspell. Despite the tragedy that struck them when their former
bassist committed suicide in 1995, Heavenwood signed to Massacre
Records and released two albums in the late half of the 1990s. DIVA
and SWALLOW sold more than 40,000 copies worldwide and put Heavenwood
in sucessful European tours with bands such as Atrocity, In Flames,
Theatre Of Tragedy and Lake Of Tears.

In 1998, high on the track of their SWALLOW album (which featured
guest appearances by Gamma Ray mastermind Kai Hansen and -- at the
time -- Theatre Of Tragedy front lady Liv Kristine), Heavenwood was
the first Portuguese band EVER to play in Wacken Open Air. After that,
more tours with bands such as Atrocity, Solitude Aeturnus and Savior
Machine, but the band quickly folded in a sea of internal problems and
